Misfits and Runaways

Hadley McGarden

Marigolds and Tigerlilies
Hello there! I've had this storyline in mind for a while now, and I appreciate you checking it out. Now, it's a bit of an odd one, but I think it'd be an interesting roleplay; it revolves around the close friendship developed between an older teen boy and a young girl who become stepsiblings when his negligent father marries her abusive mother. Before I get into the details of the storyline, please note: a. I generally write multiple paragraphs per response, and would like you to do the same, and b. this roleplay could contain potentially triggering material such as parental negligence, parental abuse, poverty, crime, etc. If you're capable of writing more than one paragraph every response and will not be deeply upset by such triggers, then feel free to read the storyline, and if you're interested, feel free to message me!

("C1" refers to the character that you would be playing, and "C2" is the one I would be playing.)

C1 knew loneliness. His life had been full of it. His father had never meant to have him, and as such, continued his life as if the boy had never been left on his doorstep by some one nightstand or another. The man dedicated his time to work and relationships that rarely lasted more than a month, leaving C1 to take care of himself. With limited interaction with his father and what attention he got being negative, the man shooing him away out of annoyance, C1 never learned how to properly interact with his peers and thus had few friends, which only worsened his isolation. Desperate to feel anything and draw any sort of attention to himself, he became a rebel, misbehaving at school and committing minor crimes left and right. It never worked, and he spiraled deeper into solitude, depression and criminal activity. He was certain that no one would ever care about him--after all, no one had before, not the mother that abandoned him, not the father that ignored him, not the kids that taunted him--and as such, he refused to care about anyone either. Hence why he was so surprised that he grew fond of C2 so fast.

C2 knew pain. Her life had been full of it. Her mother had spent her whole life being tortured, and as such, made her tiny fragile daughter, born of the affair that ruined her second marriage, suffer in the same way she had. Married twice with a daughter from each, not counting C2, she only loved her eldest child, and mistreated the younger two horribly. With the only positive interactions she got being from her older sister, C2 latched onto her, viewing her sister as the only good person in the world and coming to resent the rest of it.After all, her mother and eldest sister were both unrelentingly cruel, and the kids at school picked on her due to her poor hygiene and too big clothes (both of which she could blame her mother for, considering it was her mother not paying the bills and getting their water shut off, her mother insisting that her hand-me-downs were suitable clothes for a child half her size). Given that the only light in her otherwise miserable life was her sister, one could understand why it tore C2 apart to lose her--the illness appeared so fast, consumed her so quickly, that there was nothing they could do. That was when C2 truly snapped. She became hostile and angry, snapping at the hands of the people that reached out to her and clawing at her mother's arms when the woman grabbed her. She hated the world and everything in it. Hence why she was so surprised that she was able to find it in her to love C1.

Neither were surprised when their parents wed--they were exactly the type of person they would have expected their parent to want as a partner. C1's father was a rich man who would be able to provide for C2's mother without actually caring much about her, which would allow her to continue to have affairs whenever she wished, while C2's mother was a beautiful woman who, despite her low social standing, knew how to act at high-class events so she wouldn't embarrass the wealthy man with her behavior. The perfect trophy wife. They wed after only six months of dating, and soon enough, C2 was moving in with her mother and older sister. It didn't take long for C1 to realize just how horribly C2 was being mistreated; it wasn't as though her mother was trying to hide her loathing of her youngest child. Jaded heart going out to the furious, hurting child, C1 made sure to treat her with kindness, and though C2 was wary at first, she eventually softened up to him.

The more time passed, the closer the two became, until they were the best of friends. C1 became fiercely protective of C2, and grew increasingly angry that the little sister he so deeply adored had to live such a horrible life. Almost subconsciously, he began to wonder if there was a way he could get her out without losing her, because he honestly wasn't sure he could go back to living the lonely life he had let before she came along. More than once, they'd mused about a future where, once C1 was an adult, he could take her away and she'd live with him until she was old enough to live on her own, but it would be another two years before he'd be a qualified adult, and with how much she was already suffering, C1 wasn't sure she could last that long.

In the end, he hadn't planned any of it--he'd done it all on a whim. He'd been driving home from school, gripping the wheel so tight that his knuckles were white and fretting to himself about C2, who had been horribly beaten by her mother that she'd had to stay home from school. Suddenly, swerved into the bank drive through, and, as if someone else was saying the words to the person on the other end, took a good half of his father's fortune out of his account without really registering what he was doing. He drove home, crouched down beside C2, who was curled up on the couch, and asked her if she wanted to leave. C2 was quick to agree, nearly crying from how desperate she was to escape, and C1 packed them both bags before scooping C2 up and carrying her out to the car. He set her up to be as comfortable as she could be, locked the door, and drove off with his little sister in the back seat.
