**FLASHBACK**

Location: Northern Canada, CSIS Black site fourteen, Sub-floor six.

Phantom POV.

White floors, white walls, white fucking ceiling. Everything was sterile, almost sickeningly so. It hurt the eyes to stare in one place for too long and let your mind wander. Although that was probably a good thing when your mind could literally kill you if you lost control.

Michel sighed. It had been far too long since he had tasted fresh air, felt the cool wind or even the soft snow. Memories from his childhood resurfaced, bringing with it sadness and longing. They were utterly crushed by his own mind, the task trivial, due to his mental conditioning. He took another sip of hot mint tea in a, yes white, mug before sighing and setting it down on a table by his side.

He was not a sociable man at the best of times but he had not had any human contact in weeks. Even the meals that they served were pushed though a slot on the door. He had grown tired of this. He reached out with his mind, pushing past the shielding that they had installed in the walls. He lightly brushed past most of the minds in the other rooms but they were of little interest, old and frail or just not compatible. Then he felt something else. He felt another mind. Not like the others in this place, broken, dusty, unusable. No, this mind was strong, alive, bursting with memories and thoughts. He pushed a little harder, pulling his mind away from the others and dedicating his mental power to this new individual.

After only a few seconds, he found out that they were a female, from Australia and only nineteen. How someone so young with no supernatural abilities could gain access to this place was beyond him. But he intended to find out. She wasn't alone, thought. A man, known to Michel only as Dimitri and was the man that brought him to his current lodgings, was escorting this girl down the hallway to a sort of interview room.

He pushed a little harder into the girls mind, unsure as to why. Maybe he wanted her to feel him, as a reassurance or maybe as in intimidation, beating his chest to make sure that he was the strongest. No matter what it was, she was sat in the interview room with Dimitri moving to room five... Michel's room.

Murphy POV

Murphy sat in the almost empty room. All that the room had was a table, two chairs and a door. Every wall was the purest white you've ever seen, it almost hurt your eyes to look at it, maybe that was the point. She was dressed in a tight jumpsuit that was a colour that might surprise you; Obsidian black.

The girl that sat in one of the aforementioned chairs was a 19 year old Australian girl; Murphy Cross, she had black short hair, smooth clean skin and was a healthy weight, the point is whoever had her here was taking good care of her. Whilst she was sitting in the room, doing as her told and waiting, she felt something, something in her mind. The feeling was rather weak however, she brushed it off, strange feelings she was unfamiliar of were rather familiar to Murphy at this point in her life.

Murphy sat, looking down at her feet, waiting for something. Or someone.

Phantom POV.

The door to room five swung open on well-greased hinges, Dimitri walking though, immediately moving over to Michel.

He had a Ukrainian accent but spoke English very well. "It's time to go. We have a new guest we'd like you to meet."

Michel nodded and pulled a white mask over his ruined face, following the man out of the room and down the hall to the right. He could tell that the girl could feel his mind. Soon, very soon, he would gauge what kind of person she was. Michel knew why she was brought here. But did she?

Only seconds later, they were at the white metal door.

Dimitri paused and turned to Michel. "Please be nice to her. Please."

Michel just shrugged, uncaring as to the mans wishes.

He sighed. "Alright. If you don't want to be nice, can you at least be gentle?"

Michel said nothing as the door swung open.

Murphy POV

Murphy stayed still, not moving from her seat. She would have tried to listen, to see if she could hear anyone coming from outside. But this was far from the first time she'd been in a room like this in this facility, she wouldn't be able to hear someone before they opened that door.

And so she sat there, staring blankly at the door, awaiting whatever was coming. Then, it opened. She saw Dimitri, and a boy standing next to him. She stared at the boy, wondering who he could be.

Michel POV.

Michel stared back in equal wonder but was soon interrupted by the man next to him.

"This," Dimitri began, "Is Murphy. Murphy, meet Michel. You two will be getting to know each other quite well in her time here. Please try to be nice," He said this to Murphy, "He can become rather violent." He then turned to Michel. "And you, will not hurt her in any way. She is just as valuable as you are so if either one of you is damaged in any way..." He trailed off, not wanting to think about what would happen to him, his job and his charges, Murphy and Michel, much less talk about it.

He then let the young psychic enter the room before closing the white door. With a barely audible click, it was locked.

Michel said nothing, waiting for the girl to make the first move, trying to gauge her.

Murphy POV

Murphy listened closely to Dmitri, looking him in the eyes as he spoke and told her about this new boy. Eventually, after Dmitri finished and he had left, Murphy turned her attention to the psychic boy; Michel. She looked at him for a time, eyeing him up and down, trying to get an idea of who he was, then eventually spoke, "Hi!" she said in a surprising and jarringly chipper tone.

Phantom POV.

Michel jumped at the uncomfortably loud noise, screwing his eyes shut to block out the jarring greeting. He opened his eyes and sat down, looking the girl over. Her eyes were rather nice. A soft shade of blue with a ring of almost grey right around the outside. Michel found himself staring into those eyes though the holes for in his mask. He sighed. There would be no option for friendship, let alone romance. Silent professionalism is all that matters. Efficacy and the will to kill.

He placed his hands on the neckline of the mask and slowly pulled up, relieving the scars on his neck, then chin, cheeks and eyes, then the top of his head as he dropped it to the table. His voice was like a shovel dragging over gravel.

"Hello. I am Michel."

Murphy POV

Murphy sat still, awaiting the boy's response. He stared at her for a while, she stared back, not moving her eyes from him, waiting patiently. Eventually the boy moved his hands to his mask, slowly removing it and revealed his scarred face. She stared at the different parts of it as it was removed, her eyes darted from his neck, to his nose, his cheeks, and finally, his eyes. She watched him closely as he spoke. After a short time, she replied.

"Murphy." She said with a smile, then, she paused, her eyes darted around the room again quickly before returning to Michel, "Who are you. Michel. Why are you here?"

Michel POV

He grinned wickedly. "I'm here because I can destroy a building in seconds just by looking at it. But that's not why we're here. I can train people in the use of their minds. The others you may meet in this place have been broken by me. Minds flayed apart like the nothings they were. But you...There's something different about you." He blushed very lightly and looked away. "Your eyes are lovely."

Murphy POV

Murphy watched Michel closely as he spoke, her face remained still, unmoving and stoic. Michel reached a pause, and she leant onto the table, resting her chin on one hand, she blinked. "Your eyes are lovely." Michel said to her, blushing.

Murphy tilted her head slightly, "Are they?" Murphy paused for a moment, "Can you really do all of those things? What would be different about me?"

Michel POV

The red drained from his face when she began asking questions.

"I don't know what is different about you...But it's there. There's......You're not like the others." He shifted in his seat. "In regards to your other question. Would you like me to show you?"

"Yes." Murphy answered, "I don't believe you have powers like that. I don't believe powers like that exist." Murphy leant forwards, "But feel free to prove me wrong, Michel."

Michel POV.

The air in the room seemed to flex as the young man took a deep breath. He then reached across the table, palm up, scarred fingers slightly curled toward Murphy.

"If you want to find out," He said, "take my hand. Just know that once you do, there will be no turning back. So I need to ask you, are you sure? You and I will become linked in a way that is far more intimate then lovers or even family. You will have access to my most deepest thoughts, desires and most hidden memories and I will have the same access to yours. So I need to ask you...Are you sure?"

Murphy POV

Murphy noticed the air changing, she listened carefully to Michel as he spoke, she sat their for a short time, then put her hand near Michel's, "I have been told to indulge your powers... I suppose this is what he was referring to." Murphy put her hand on top of Michel's hand and breathed deeply,

"Alright. Show me."

Michel POV

His tone took on a very serious note. "This is not simple indulgence. This will change you. It could kill you, me or both of us. I just want you to know that when gears begin to spin, they can be hard to stop..."

He gripped her hand hard as a tendril of black energy flowed out of the top of his wrist and slowly writhed around, not quite touching Murphy's hand.

"Last chance to back out..."

Murphy POV

Murphy watched the tendril writhe around briefly with a slightly curious look, then she turned her attention back to Michel, she looked into his eyes with a blank yet deadly serious expression across her face,

"I already agreed." She said bluntly. Murphy continued to stare at him, awaiting Michel to display her his powers.

Michel POV

He nodded and closed his eyes as the tendril plunged itself into Murphy's hand, engulfing it completely, inside and out. Michel's eyes snapped open. They were swirling pools of pure white with black swirls flaying around in a chaotic dance. The one-way window in the room cracked, the table dented where their hands were joined and the lights flickered. Then the blackness began to snake it's way up Her arm, tendrils splitting off the main body only to stab into the flesh at a higher point. Balls of energy spun around the room, careening off the walls and ceiling, creating a high pitched screech and blacking the, once white, walls to a dusty shade of grey. The metal table was completely crushed as one of the balls smashed into it, embedding it at least a foot into the far wall. Suddenly, the two operatives were being lifted up as if a giant had reached down and plucked them both, like a carrot from soil. The chairs were then crushed into the ground as the unrelenting force that was this energy expanded and forced it's way bigger inside this small room. The blackness had encapsulated her entire body except for her head but that two was crawling with the tendrils. Blood began flowing freely from Michel's eyes and that too was whisked into the darkness, creating a deep red flowing around the black. The sound only increased in pitch until it was almost like a million children wailing all at once.
