Nation Building Mankind's Story - Lore

RIPSaidCone

It is the year 2787 in a small corner of the Milky Way Galaxy, this year marking the 700th anniversary of the Old World's destruction. Earth as it was and is still known having been destroyed in the year 2087 by a large-scale nuclear conflict which continues to make the planet unviable for recolonization and settlement even to this day. Although it is often visited by the low-lifes of galactic society such as smugglers and other criminals that wish to hide their presence from law enforcement, yet even this can only happen for a day or two at a time before the still very present radiation levels of the toxic planet get too much for modern technology to protect against.

As such Humanity had needed to adapt and expand in-order to prevent full on extinction, with Mars, Luna and a terraformed Venus being the three main planets which contributed to this rapid Human expansion throughout what is now known as Civilized Space. This expansion however would not have occured if it hadn't been for the invention of Faster-Than-Light travel which had been developed by an independent organization in the year 2441, something which had completely changed the course of Human history forever. Allowing for a much more aggressive campaign of colonization and dominance across this portion of the Milky Way galaxy which Humanity can now collectively call home even though it may be seperated by Human borders.

However despite all of the benefits of having it, this newfound FTL technology was still limited in the sense that all Human factions found great difficulty in miniturising this technology that they now had, and even to this day it is still proving an incredibly difficult task despite large strides being made in the field. As such another solution was thought of, a series of FTL Depots would be created around major colonies in Civilized Space. These Depots would all link together to form a sort of Space Highway as it is now informally known as. This would allow large concentrations of civilian traffic to flow between major colonies and even some smaller ones freely and quickly, booming Human economy as a result.

This FTL "Space Highway" had been set up quickly during the 2440s and 2450s due to a desperate need for easy transportation around Human-controlled space. As in the year 2443 first contact had been made with a still relatively unknown species known as the Axidat. Although relations were somewhat friendly if not mostly neutral between the two, fears had rapidly spread throughout the leaderships of various Human factions, culminating in a combined effort to quickly develop the Space Highway as an efficient way of transporting troops. Needless to say the effort was a success although fortunately it never needed to be used in such a way.

And so now Humanity has spread far and wide across its own corner of the Milky Way, with many factions with tens of billions of people and dozens of colonized worlds, with the story from here on out being contributed to by you, the player.

However just like any universe, there is always more than what is just seen on the surface. Which is why this exists, a codex to store all of the additional and more in-depth information about the universe of Mankind's Story which you may not see during the roleplay or on the faction sheets.

Naval Abbreviation:
HMS...

Naming Convention:
Corvettes: Names of Nobles
Frigates: Names of Saints
Cruisers: Names of Historical Ships
Destroyers: Names of Generals/Admirals
Battleships: Names of Earth cities
Battlecarriers: Names of High Curators

Culture:

Marriage:
Marriage in the Curatorium is a sacred institution between man and woman. Most people in the Curatorium are married, divorce is unrecognized (although annulments are granted) and marriage is seen as a normal part of life for all except religious officials and nuns and monks.

Death:
The people of the Curatorium morn the death of their family members and generally inter them in crypts, mausoleums, or bury them. Cremation is frowned upon.

Birth:
Births are greatly celebrated events in the Curatorium and the new infants are almost immediately taken to nearby churches and christened. Giving birth to children is seen as a noble and morally decent enterprise within marriage.

Technology:
The Curatorium is not technophobic, but it is technoskeptic. Generally, any job that requires a modicum of thinking will be done by a human over a robot. The Curatorium takes a vested interest in ensuring that its citizens do not become addicted to technological use and the use of computers and handheld devices is rare or highly contained.

Arts:
Art is considered one of the main aims of the Curatorium and the artists of the country seek to create new stories and traditions using the ideas and traditions of the old Earth masters. Painting, literature, dance, music, and film flourish in the Curatorium.

Celebrations:
The Curatorium celebrates most Christian holidays including Easter Vigil, Christmas and Advent, and Saintly Feast Days. The liturgical calendar is based off of the Earth’s days and years, whereas national holidays such as Curator’s Day, the Day of Solemn Mourning, and the Day of Benediction are observed according to the Philemonic Calendar.

Fashion:
Most Aparatorai wear leather or wool coats, high-collared shirts, and neutral colored trousers and boots, or for women long dresses or blouses and long skirts. Women often wear veils over their heads in church services to cover their hair, believing that they must cover their beauty before the Lord. Priests and religious officials wear black, gold, and red tunics and preaching vestments in the similar tradition of the Earth Orders. Policemen wear blue or black uniforms similar to those of old-time English policemen, and Curatorai usually wear modern-cut, well-tailored suits.

Outsiders:
The people of the Curatorium believe outsiders are, at worst severely misguided or malevolent and at best cousins with a lack of appreciation for Earth customs and their racial heritage.

History:

Timeline:
To be added.

Religion:
Deity:
The Christian deity, i.e. the tripartite Father, Son, and Holy Ghost

Place of Worship:
Church or Cathedral, which must be built out of wood or masonry and must be consecrated by a bishop.

Morality:
Members of the Ecclesia Unitum generally hold to the classical Christian view of morality. They justify military action in purely defensive capacities and emphasize forgiveness, charity, and humility.

Non-Believers:
Non-believers generally are believed to be misguided, or having a difference of opinion. The Church does not actively persecute them, but those claiming to be members of the Church espousing heretical beliefs are often tried and fined or imprisoned.

Afterlife:
They believe in Heaven, Hell, and Purgatory in the classical sense.

Science:
Science is seen as a value-neutral thinking tool that is used to understand Creation and better the lives of the faithful. They are vociferously against Scientism or Rationalistic Materialism.

Biblical Texts:
The Christian Bible, compiled from Hebrew and Early Christian texts in the second century AD, usually with an included non-Biblical commentary by Bishop Rasselas, considered one of the greatest Church Fathers of the Ecclesia Unitum

The Faithful:
The faithful must attend Mass on holy days of obligation, be baptized and confirmed into the church, commit no mortal sin, confess their sins once a year, and accept communion twice a liturgical year.

Organization:
Pontif/Pope – Cardinal - Archbishop – Bishop – Monsignor- Father - Deacon

Culture
Marriage:
Marriage is very much a connecting and increasing family ties, only nobles marry with peasants simply being together although there are rare instances where a noble has to or wants to marry a peasant. Very rarely it is because the two people love each other as marriage is more of a tool for the aristocrats under the guise of true love.

Death:
Death for nobles ask for the people who served under them to attend or for people who has family ties with the person. While death of a peasant is rather insignificant with only friends and family attending the funeral. Death of a royal family member requires the nation to mourn for three days. Burial is preferred for royals and nobles while peasants are almost always cremated.

Birth:
(Similar to death but the opposite, what is your culture's response to the act of new life?)

Technology:
(What are your people's views on technology and how is it seen as part of your culture?)

Arts:
(What are your people's most popular arts, passtimes, hobbies and ways of expressing themselves, how important or non-important is it considered in your culture?)

Celebrations:
(Are there any cultural celebrations/national holidays that occur for your people regardless of where they are? What are they, why are they celebrated, what are the celebrations like?)

Fashion:
(Does your culture have any traditional clothing? If so, how does it look, why is it worn, what does it symbolize?)

Outsiders:
(What is your people and culture's view on those who live outside your borders and way of life?)

[/SPOILER]

Religion
Deity:
The Crow of The Alluvial divide. It is Mysterious and only offers insight at the most desperate of times It preaches that the harshness of life is but a stepping stone to a better reality. Many flock to its teachings as it offers some comfort and clarity in their lives. Praying to the Crow means you are having difficulty in life and require assistance, such as a poor crop season or a simple illness, this usually gives the individual a sense of familiarity and warmth. Making prayer very common in colder climates, where as warriors pray to the crow for clarity of the mind and to help him or her with making smart decisions during times of confusion or when they are desperate.

Place of Worship:
Temples built to look like nests, they are usually built in wood but there are plenty of them made with metal and more efficient building materials, there is usually a black metal crow sitting on top gazing down on the village or city it is in keeping watch of all the faithful below. Building one in a city statistically has shown to increase production in certain places due to the peasant and noble populations becoming satisfied and having a place to go to to get blessed upon by crow priests, however not just that as they commune into a single place and get to know each other more increasing ties, making friends, and finding loved ones with similar interests. This increases overall happiness and passion as therefore production of goods.

Morality:
Morality is mostly subjective and up to the nobles however there is one shared morality that killing a noble is unacceptable while killing a peasant is no big deal. it is generally frowned upon when a noble finds a peasant attractive. stealing is punishable by death whether it feeds them or not. Genetic tampering is heretical and creating abominations with said tampering must be punished with fire and fury.

Non-Believers:
They are simply seen as misguided, those whose genes were tampered with but still seem human are frowned upon. However those of belief would try to convert these misguided people by praying for them and dragging them along to religious gatherings. Other than that they are seen as normal every day people who simply do not share the same beliefs which is acceptable in some areas of the concordat however the peasants may seem more extreme than the nobles.

Afterlife:
The After Life is becoming a crow until you have found your way to be reborn as human again. If the person has dont wrong doing in their life he or she or it becomes a fly and food for the crows

Science:
Science is seen as a way of improving life however the science when it comes to tampering with the not yet born human body is seen as heresy as the baby has no say in the manor. Cybernetic augmentations are normal and commonplace among the older populations, the younger ones would also have them if they were to loose a limb or need it due to a genetic illness or because the work requires it.

Biblical Texts:
There are only stories about noble families and especially ones about the royal family

The Faithful:
They are expected to be loyal to the crown and work for the betterment of the concordat as a whole.

Organization:
There are simply priests who reside in the temples with crow feathers on their clothes

A potentitial source of danger due to hearing rumors of bioweapons. The fact that they are unnaturally evolved animals causes discomfort.

Femian Hierarchy
A looming giant on Atlus' footsteps. Public opinion of them is varied and generally leans to the negative.

First Purview of Immensum
The OTHER looming giant on Atlus' footsteps. Their actions on Yirath have lowered Atlus' opinion of the Purview.

Fellow respected Knights and trade partners. Having an ally on the other side of Femian space is a good deterrent.

Untrustworthy due to their unsavory business practices and sale of illegal substances.

Space Warships:
Frigate:

Cruiser:

Destroyer:

Others:

Naval Abbreviation: HMS

Naming Convention:
Destroyers are typically named after flowers. Eg: HMS Edelweiss, an Intrepid-Class Destroyer of the Atlus Scientific Expedition Fleet
Cruisers and Gunships are named after marinelife. Eg: HMS Swordfish, a Geode-Class Cruiser of the Atlus Colonial Fleet
Battleships and Carriers are named after notable people. Eg: HMS Havel, a Gorgon-Class Battleship of the Atlus Home Fleet
The only ships to not follow these conventions are those Captained by Nobles and the Dainsleif-class Super Railgun Assault Ships. The former is usually up to the Captain's fancy while the latter is named after notable swords in ancient Terran Mythos. Eg A: HMS Gryphon of the Atlus Home Fleet, Captained by Lady Amelia Landon.
Eg B: HMS Excalibur of the Atlus Colonial Fleet

Culture:
Marriage:
Marriage is the union of two souls and the start of a family unit. Atlus has a pro-birth policy and its common for some couples to have children first before getting married. Marriage between Nobility is usually political but the couple usually have a final say. Royal weddings are celebrated and covered by the news, usually gossip magazines have the best coverage.

Death:
Death, the final destination to all. On Atlus, the dead is treated with respect and reverence. Even the bodies of infamous criminals are treated properly prior to cremation. Most bodies are cremated in order to save space with the urns are buried in graveyards with proper hand-crafted tombstones. The death of a Noble is announced planetwide and they are mourned for a day. The death of a Royal is announced system wide and they are mourned for 3.

Birth:
The birth of an Atlusian is a joyous event for the parents and their families. A new person to inherit the legacy of Atlus and to make her rise to better heights. That and the fact that the government has plenty of pro-birth policies and an excellent foster care system to ensure that even orphans may reach their full potential to serve Atlus.

Technology:
Technology is seen as a great aide to the people as it allows work to be done more efficiently and with less risk to the user. Although transhumanism is publicly frowned upon, simple cybernetics to replace limbs lost at work is an option. In order to ensure that all control belongs to the people, AIs are generally rather utilitarian.

Arts:
Art is seen is a good way to earn a living. Between painting for Nobles or for simple house decor, to making grand films to celebrate history or tell epic tales, art is a respectable job or hobby for most Atlusians. It can be hearkened back to some miners who used chips of coal to do sketches to pass time. Singing is also seen as a notable art. From marching songs to jazz, singing holds a deep meaning to Atlusian culture with the most famous being former cabaret singer and Scholar Cassari's wife, Alissa Cassari.

Celebrations:
(Are there any cultural celebrations/national holidays that occur for your people regardless of where they are? What are they, why are they celebrated, what are the celebrations like?)

Fashion:
Clothing on Atlus is simple and utilitarian, usually harkening back to Atlus' origins as a mining colony. Military uniforms are a touch grander with formal wear being on par with that of Nobility. Special colours are white, red, and orange. They represent new beginnings, brotherhood, and a callback to the mining uniforms post-freedom respectively.

Outsiders:
Atlus has a generally neutral stance on outsiders. Whatever they do is their own business unless Atlus is involved. Even then, diplomacy is usually the first step to foreigners. Although with the Civil War fresh in their minds, first contact has a more violent edge to it now.

Feburary, 31st, 2350
Discovery of Morgawn B7R

Arvaron discovers another orbital body orbiting Carlion, the now Emperor Garnahad of Arvaron declared B7R to be Arvaron domain and a mining moon.

June, 22nd, 2350
Transformation from Empire to the Dominion

As Arvaron continues to expand its influence and land, its increased production has led to aggressive expansion with the plan to be a Global Empire, a Dominion ruling Carlion under one Emperor and flag, most of the Neighboring cities were Annexed by the aggressive expansion.

March, 25th, 2355
Arvaron War

Arvaron became a powerful industrialized empire after the Discovery of B7R, having a robust military industry, motives of expansion and nationalism led it to clash with its neighboring countries over territorial and self-determination issues, a situation that would lead to the invasion of its Southern and Western neighbors.

June, 20th, 2355
End of the Arvaron War / Signing of the Treaty of Lumen

Its Neighboring countries catipulated from the Arvaron onslaught, on the Evening of June 20, 2355, the Heads of State of the invaded countries and the King and his Order met in Lumen to discuss and formally sign the Treaty of Lumen. The treaty was signed and all of the countries were assimilated into the Arvaron Dominion.

Establishment of a City in Merlon / Project Pendragon

The Dominion began Operations in Colonizing their moon, by the Early morning of August 7th, 2465, The Dominion launched their first Colonists into Merlon, establishing the first City on the Moon. Soon research starts on a better FTL drive than the old one and new arsenal to add in for the military.

June, 6th, 2580
7 Hours War / Tragedy over the Wardreich Mountains / Arvaron now a Global Dominion

When Emperor Artorius rose to power after the death of his father 5 years ago, the time has come again for the Dominion to Aggressively expand its influence and land, Nations fell under the Blitzkreig of the Technologically advanced Arvaron forces, Emperor Artorius intervened by sending an Ultimatum to the last Rogue country to surrender peacefully or face an All out battle.

By the Evening of June 6th, 7 hours after the start of the conflict, the Rogue nation of Berka did the unthinkable. The Berkan Army detonated 7 V1 Atomic Weapons on their own soil, plunging the entire region and nation into chaos and effectively ceasing to exist. This act shocked the entire Dominion and vowed to not celebrate the end of the war as a result of the Tragedy.

Eventually, the Dominion of Arvaron became global but still reeling from the effects of the Aftermath of the Seven Hours War.
