It is the year 2787 in a small corner of the Milky Way Galaxy, this year marking the 700th anniversary of the Old World's destruction. Earth as it was and is still known having been destroyed in the year 2087 by a large-scale nuclear conflict which continues to make the planet unviable for recolonization and settlement even to this day. Although it is often visited by the low-lifes of galactic society such as smugglers and other criminals that wish to hide their presence from law enforcement, yet even this can only happen for a day or two at a time before the still very present radiation levels of the toxic planet get too much for modern technology to protect against.
As such Humanity had needed to adapt and expand in-order to prevent full on extinction, with Mars, Luna and a terraformed Venus being the three main planets which contributed to this rapid Human expansion throughout what is now known as Civilized Space. This expansion however would not have occured if it hadn't been for the invention of Faster-Than-Light travel which had been developed by an independent organization in the year 2441, something which had completely changed the course of Human history forever. Allowing for a much more aggressive campaign of colonization and dominance across this portion of the Milky Way galaxy which Humanity can now collectively call home even though it may be seperated by Human borders.
However despite all of the benefits of having it, this newfound FTL technology was still limited in the sense that all Human factions found great difficulty in miniturising this technology that they now had, and even to this day it is still proving an incredibly difficult task despite large strides being made in the field. As such another solution was thought of, a series of FTL Depots would be created around major colonies in Civilized Space. These Depots would all link together to form a sort of Space Highway as it is now informally known as. This would allow large concentrations of civilian traffic to flow between major colonies and even some smaller ones freely and quickly, booming Human economy as a result.
This FTL "Space Highway" had been set up quickly during the 2440s and 2450s due to a desperate need for easy transportation around Human-controlled space. As in the year 2443 first contact had been made with a still relatively unknown species known as the Axidat. Although relations were somewhat friendly if not mostly neutral between the two, fears had rapidly spread throughout the leaderships of various Human factions, culminating in a combined effort to quickly develop the Space Highway as an efficient way of transporting troops. Needless to say the effort was a success although fortunately it never needed to be used in such a way.
And so now Humanity has spread far and wide across its own corner of the Milky Way, with many factions with tens of billions of people and dozens of colonized worlds, with the story from here on out being contributed to by you, the player.
However just like any universe, there is always more than what is just seen on the surface. Which is why this exists, a codex to store all of the additional and more in-depth information about the universe of Mankind's Story which you may not see during the roleplay or on the faction sheets.
