Quirks: Enn is a touchy person. Whether it is a barely known acquaintance or a suspicious object, she is compulsively drawn towards prodding or touching it.

Theme Music
Enn Velahl
Birth / Truename: -forgotten-

Age: 21

Race: Human

Homeland: Highover

School: Highover Institute of Magic

Gender: Female

Sexuality: Straight

Height: 165cm (5 ft 5)

Body Built: Lissom and feminine

Eye Color: Grey almost light-blue

Hair Color: Flaxen Blonde

Extra: Has a mole just above her cheek under her left eye. Usually garbed in a blue dress sometimes with a matching blue cloak, fastened at her collar with a Tyrian purple gemstone clasp. A small three-cylindered wind chime made out of a peculiar translucent material hangs at her belt, though it seems to only tinkle at odd moments. Other times, it makes no sound at all.
Psychological

A soft-spoken but friendly girl, her presence often brings an exuding feeling of warmth to a persons heart, like that of a small kindling fire. A bearer of delightful conversation when she is in the mood. At other times, her gaze shifts to the distance and that same feeling of warmth changes to something far colder, like a rushing wind through an empty void.

"Tell me... what was your dream last night?"

While most would welcome Enn in their midst, her peculiar and random moods often results in her wandering the gothic halls of Highover alone, whispering to Kala clutched in her arms. Sometimes she'd suddenly appear behind you, with nothing but a slight tinkle to abruptly announce her presence.

When questioned about her past, Enn does not seem to remember much beyond a year ago.

Background

About a year ago, during one stormy and thundering night, Samael Velalh was making his way across the large imposing Great Hall on his way back to the residential wing from a particularly long night of grading papers. The large clock at the center ceiling of the Great Hall had just struck midnight, as he was passing infront of the Ardenstone set on its plinth, and he was in a hurry to get his meager rest. During a lull in the sixth chime and the crashing of thunder, he suddenly heard something crash against the large looming gilded doors, one that led to the front courtyard of the Institute. The noise was muffled through the thick wood, but very much apparent as if something had tumbled against the portal.

Samael hesitated for a moment, wondering if he was imagining things before something drew him towards the large doors. Opening a small side entryway, for the large doors stretched to the ceiling and would surely let the torrent of rain in he peered out into the gloom, shielding his face from the spray of rain.

"It's a girl..." A large phoenix, with feathers of deepest smoldering obsidian, purred from her perch on his shoulder. Runaisa lifted from Samael's shoulder with barely a whisper of her shadow wings and drifted over to the crumpled pale form at the center of the large imposing doors. With an uttered word and a gesture, Samael invoked a rushing wall of wind just large enough to keep the spray at bay and hurried over to catch up. The Hisa-me had already transformed, a seamless form of roiling shadow until a tall woman in a midnight-black gown stood in place of the mythical bird. Small bat-like wings protruded from the small of her exposed back.

"Runaisa, wait!" Samael called out, trying to keep his balance from slipping on the wet pavement. But either his command bore no real compulsion or the Hisa-me merely ignored him. Runaisa sauntered over to the enigmatic stranger's side and crouched low. She did, however, keep her distance, if only a slight one.

"I stand corrected Master... a woman."

Finally reaching the center of the doorway, Samael beheld the shivering and battered form of a young woman. A flash of thunder streaked across the sky, illuminating her terrified facade as she clutched to her exposed self. Samael would never forget the sheer terror he saw in her pale eyes at that point.

The Master Magician immediately doffed his coat, wrapping it around the girl as he helped her to stand with words of encouragement.

"Runaisa, quickly, get her some clothes! Find Mistress Regalia or something, she might have some to spare for the moment."

"As you wish... Master."

Samael did not bother to look, hearing the swish of wings as the Hisa-me departed. Supporting the girl to himself, he walked her indoors and out of the cold.

"What's your name, girl?" At first, Samael thought the storm must've drowned out his question. But as he turned to look down at the fragile form by his side, he heard her whispered reply.

"Nnn..-"

Frowning, he brought her to the infirmary, setting her down on an empty ward as the bedraggled and flustered school nurse fussed about. Samael crouched by the bedside, but when he tried to shift away, the girl grasped at his hands with an iron-grip. Surprised, his features softened as he reached forward a hand to brush her drenched locks out of her face. Something within the cold hardened heart of Samael Velahl kindled that day. A loss, a void of emptiness was suddenly filled with warmth.

"Master Samael??" He heard the familiar sound of his colleague, and her harried footsteps as the Mistress Enchantra approached. A soft flowery fragrance wafted through the air as Regalia Loftgarden appeared by his side, still dressed in a nightgown, clutching a bundled dress in her hands. Samael nodded in greeting.

"Who is she...?" Regalia spoke again.

"She is... Enn... and she doesn't remember a thing."

"I just realized..... I am all alone now...."

If able to get under his shy shell he becomes a very cheerful and trustworthy friend. Becomes reckless at times which may put him to dangerous situations.

Background

Cobalt was an orphan from birth. His birth parents being very poor left him in an orphanage. He was taken in by a rich man who was dying of sickness and needed someone to which he could pass on his will. The boy grew up having interests in magic. Being a master magician became his dream. His foster father started to send him to the prestigious Highover Institute of Magic.

The man died after Cobalt turned 15. The boy continued to go to the prestigious school while being under the care of the mansion's caretaker. He made some friends in the institute whom he told all of his secret like him being an orphan and his adoptive father being dead. But that was a big mistake by him.

His friends spread all of his secrets in the institute. Soon Cobalt started to become a primary target of bullying. All of the bullying made him shy, distant, unable to trust anyone fearing that the same event might happen to him again.

But after sometime, the bullying on him slowly died down. But he still wasn't able to open up at all. He turned all of his attention to his studies and his dream of being a magician.

Slowly as the years passed he became one of the top students from Highover. He was one of those students who the others were sure that will be a part of the Reckoning. Even though he had his Foliot, Misty with him, he still considered himself being alone.

"I just realized.... I am all alone now....."

Birth / Truename: Rabu Momozono

Age: 19

Race: Human

Homeland: Hinokian

School: Highover Institute of Magic

Gender: Female

Sexuality: Heterosexual

Height: 5'6"

Body Built: Dancer's body

Eye Color: Brown

Hair Color: Black

Extra: That's her usual outfit. (in the pic)
Psychological

Starlight is a friendly, passionate, sympathetic and hyperactive girl who tries her best at everything she does. She is very positive and always tries to help make others happy. Starlight tends to be a bit of a romantic and loves, well love. She loves reading romantic books and loves playing matchmaker even though she often fails. But it just makes her all the happier when she gets it right. Even though she loves romance she herself never actually seems to get involved in things like that. Funny enough her true name Rabu actually means love. Even though she can be a sweet girl she can also be quite rude and disrespectful. Though this usually happens when she gets mad and she does have a short temper.

"You'd be surprise how just one smile can make a person's day."

Starlight is highly empathetic, to the point of her overflowing feelings causing her to express more pain or sorrow than others would. She also feels remorse whenever she feels like she's done someone wrong. She can be a little selfish at times or act childish, mainly when it comes to food. Her childishness also comes into play whenever she wants to prank someone that's pissed her off. Starlight is also a sarcastic girl sometimes and impulsive, whenever she gets super excited or angry she tends to leap before she thinks. Starlight actually loves studying magic and is serious about her craft she's also quite serious when it comes to performing. She's almost like a completely different person whenever she is completely focused. That's actually why people call her mysterious, it's because of the strange aura, allure, light, and sometimes even darkness her magic gives off whenever she is doing spells.

Background

Rabu had a pretty normal childhood, for a gypsy anyway. Rabu, her family and the band of gypsies they were with, which they are also considered family, were always traveling so Rabu never really had a home base. Even so, she loved traveling and going to new towns though her life wasn't always easy. People do tend to look down on her kind which did affect her sometimes. Like her mother, Rabu loved dancing and singing and like her father she had a talent for the flute. Things she always did and practice. While growing up she was taught combat and how to and how to protect herself. She’s quite the acrobat now and can hold her own in a fight. Rabu never went to a normal school and honestly she really never had an interest in it especially since it was never pushed with them always traveling and the fact it would be hard to pay for. It was pretty normal for people like her not to go, but she did have an interest in learning magic. She even knew what school she wanted to go to Highover Institute of Magic. She begged her parents if she could go but they really just couldn't afford it. So instead they sent her to Sorcera al'Miransar.

After going there for a year a visiting Master Magician from Highover noticed her talent and offered her to take her to Highover on a scholarship. Rabu was ecstatic and it just made her want to work harder. Rabu had a very basic education, she wasn’t on the same level as the other students. When she was at Miransar she worked hard to catch up to try to catch up and now going to Highover she was going to have to work even harder which she did and her hard work paid off. She also worked hard to earn money she would perform and dance in the streets and even in the taverns. She became quite popular and she gave herself the stage name Starlight. Even though it was hard with her trying to catch up in studies and even having people look down on her she pushed on through and eventually was a top student which she made sure to rub in the faces of some of the other students who would talk down to her. She’s quite proud of herself and can’t wait to see what the future holds in store for her.

Euphemia is not someone you first notice among the vibrant personalities in the high society, nor is she the second, the third. After a banquet, someone else – a great and in your face beauty, a loudmouth or easily offended baroness would be remembered, not her. But without fail, people aware of her presence. Like a looming shadow, a great boulder for a landmark, she stays on the back of your mind, speaks little, gazes sharply. She offers little more than polite remarks, barely satisfies social etiquettes and at the end of the day, gives you the ultimate rejection of whatever brilliant idea you’re trying to convince her of. Again, she is like a great boulder, silently stands looming, never voicing her own thoughts, never gives ground.

She believes tradition exists for a reason, and order instead of chaos should reign, just like the very nature of their world. All innovations usually are just for the sake of rebelling again established and working structure. Only by diving deep in the known can one make way towards the unknown. Sudden inspirations based on nothing but gut feelings are unreliable at best and useless at worst.

A staunch believer of hard works and their merits, she works hard every moment awake. And although perfection is unachievable, she is one of the few people coming quite close in almost anything she has set her mind on doing.. This in addition to an eye for detail, natural talent, makes her one of the most renown young mages in the country.
“I don’t want to abandon my dignity and become a slave to my desires, but thanks for asking.”

Because of her wariness with other nobles, who know well of the curse on her family, she tends to keep them at an arm's length, never interacts much with them beyond the bare minimum a fellow noble is required. Except for the rare and few close friends, her true feelings are never shown, never expressed.

She used to entertain the idea of looking for a way to lift the curse on her family but quickly discarded the thought. She doesn’t sit well with lofty and unrealistic ideas. The only thing she wants is to live with her head held high, so that the name Aureli is left untainted one last time, and see to it that she would be the last Aureli.

Background

They might not be the strongest magicians, might not be the richest, nor wisest, most well known, most notorious, most praised nor most feared, but the name Aureli, alluring and mystical like dawn and like dusk, invokes all of those aspects at once.

They were among the first names appears on the dusty pages of Highover’s history ever since the Great Silence. In a golden mansion stood like an island among the first huts, they had dwelled. The story told of the road paved with golds led to the hilltop with a roof that shined brighter than the sun and the moon combined. Under it were men and women whose golden hair glowed faintly in the dark and blindly in daylight. Golden streams ran in their veins, the colour of gold illuminated their magic at moments of brilliant enchanting works, even the demons they conjured cloaked in shining armours and armed with gilt spearheads.

But then there was Giovanni Aureli, a man with as much treachery, ambition and brilliance as all the Aureli men before him.

He married Halcyon – a powerful mage whose deeds were the envy of all mages alive. But despite being ranked among the greatest, she could not bear him a son.

And so desiring an heir above all else, Giovanni went for another maiden and banished his wife from the golden mansion. The great magician became the wretched woman in love, betrayed heart, mortally wounded animal. Abandoned.

Wrath. Rage. Halcyon cursed. She cursed so never again would a man born to the Aureli, and any man foolish enough to marry an Aureli would be rewarded with a death full of pain and soon after the birth of his first offspring. Happiness shall never grace the door of the Aureli again.

“Madness drivels!”

“I am not mad. I am not sane. All Aureli shall taste this womanly suffering forever after!”

And so the curse came to pass. Until this day, the Aureli women, whose golden hair glow faintly in the dark but no more blindly in daylight, always give birth to girls, and their daughters in turn only have daughters, never a boy. Their husband soon after the birth of the first daughter always dies horribly.

It’s how the story goes. No one can ascertain if it's a true story or just an old wives’ tales. But there certainly is a family living on top of a hill just outside of Highover. The roof of their mansion isn’t coated in gold, nor is the path leading to its timeworn steps. One or two women in the house have blonde hair that glows faintly in the dark. And those women’s middle names are always Aureli. Then again, no one knows for sure if they are the Aureli in the myth. Even if no one has ever seen a boy with golden hair in that house; and the husband of those women often died soon after the birth of their first daughter.

Only the Aureli women knew their despair. The same thing repeats again, and again, and again. A little girl with golden coloured hair would hope against hope, wishing with all their might for the curse to end, then she marries the man she loves because, despite the rumour, there would always be men fall for the beauty of Aureli women, or their wealth, their brilliant magic talent. Then the husband dies, leaving the girl to lament for her wretched fate, and her daughter would grow up, hope against hope to escape her fate.

Ventura Fontana died in a freak accident while summoning a demon. A man of utmost prudent, a perfectionist, yet a beginner mistake was discovered in his circle. His wife Catalina Aureli locked herself in the deepest room of the mansion, vowed to never leave the darkness again until the day darkness itself consumes her life.

Their only daughter is Euphemia Aureli Fontana. She grows up with no father, and with a mother who never leaves the darkroom in which her golden hair glows faintly.

Inside the house too big for two ladies, a head maid and her retainers were her only family growing up. She taught herself basic magic, and by herself, she enrolled in the academy. With their natural talent for magic, the Aureli never lack money, but not even their wealth could buy their way out of their fate. Euphemia knows this. She has resigned to her fate since an early age, and like her mother who vows to never leaves the darkness, she vows to never let her heart taken by a man. Because of her self-consciousness of the curse and their reputation among the town people, Euphemia never interacts much with them. She kept for herself in most part, never leaves the house much, and only hangs out with one or two friends in the academy throughout her life. Other than those close friends and mansion’s servants, she keeps everyone else at a distance. Although it never is too hard to be polite, make small talk, compliment a little, laugh silly laughs for a while, her interactions with strangers never go beyond that.

She lives well enough and keeps herself busy to put the curse in the back of her mind. In the place of the head maid, she takes over the management of the mansion. There never is a noble who visits the mansion then leaves unsatisfied. The servants are well fed. The furniture is always in pristine condition.

Ever since she entered the marriage age, many men have come to ask for her hand, but she kept her vows and refused every single time. It isn’t as difficult as she anticipated since she has no feeling for any of them other than pity. But she fears she would, one day, when a foolish, suicidal man would come and successfully steal her heart and with it her peace. What would she do then?

Kind, understanding, righteous, just, those aren't things that Finn would describe himself as, but instead, something he strives for. He understood the naivete of it all, that in reality, things aren't always so clear cut. But even so, those were the things that he had been gifted with, the things that he was taught and expected to be in his formative years. These were the things he held onto, long after those that taught him these things revealed their hypocrisy.

"Perhaps I might be naive and foolish, perhaps it's just my own ego. Even so, I have an ideal and a dream, and the only way I can be is to be true to myself."

Hypocrisy they may be, Finn came to understand why. They wanted him to be better, to be what they couldn't. To be the best of them. Finn wanted to carry those desires with him, along with the gifts he had been granted freely, and pass it along the best way he can. 'Noblesse oblige' it was the idea that those with privileges also bear responsibilities of equal weight. However, it's not as if Finn subscribed to the idea. No, what he felt was much more than that. To him, it was more akin to the meaning of his very existence, the meaning of this weak and fragile existence that had somehow been kept alive in this cruel world when so many others would have become ashes in the wind.

Background

Born to a wealthy family of merchants who bought themselves into nobility, Fionn had been wanting for nothing, absolutely none at all. Though born sickly and weak, he was well taken care of and found very little lacking in his life. It was to the point in which he cared not for riches as he simply had too much of it, and he had absolutely no concept of hard work. Had he not been so weak during his younger years, he would most probably have grown to become a brat who knows only to throw his weight around by digging into his father's wallet. However, as he had been so sickly and weak to the point that even moving about was difficult, by the time he was old enough to understand, he had long learned to appreciate the help of those he relied upon.

Unlike Fionn who had been born into wealth, his parents were hard workers as were those before them, people who worked their entire lives away to get where they were. Fionn was their only son and heir, and as he got older, they taught him many things in regards to the ways of the world, the way they saw it. To them, the world was cruel and one will have to fight tooth and nail to remain on the top or risk being dragged down. They taught him to take advantage of every situation that came his way and make use of everything at his disposal, even if it sometimes meant exploiting or stepping over others. It was a dog eat dog world where either one takes advantage of others or be taken advantage of. However, instead of inheriting those teachings, what Fionn understood was entirely different.

Being of a reclusive upbringing, Fionn had a romanticized vision of the world, and instead of thinking that it's how the world works, he only thought that something was wrong with this sort of world. Having grown up free of wants, having grown up being surrounded by nothing but kindness, he thought it was tragic that the mere act of living was a struggle, that one could not survive if they do not compete against their fellow man, that at the end of the day, no matter what happens, someone has to win and someone has to lose.

The years went by and Fionn's condition eventually became stable enough for him to attend school, where he would grow in wisdom and understanding, learning to appreciate the way in which people lived, how the world turns with people helping one another. It wasn't just a cruel world where everyone fought tooth and nail as he had been taught. Perhaps if he had been born under different circumstances, he might have seen it differently. If he were looking from the bottom instead of the top, then perhaps it wouldn't have painted such a pretty picture. Of course, he's still aware that they were those who had to struggle to get by day to day, that there were those being exploited by those with power. It was then he realized what was hidden behind his parent's words. It had been fear. It was the fear for the greed of others and therefore, to defend themselves, they too had to become greedy. By gathering wealth, by gathering power, they could protect themselves from the cruel world at large and the more they have, the safer they would become. In time, they found themselves taking advantage of others as they fear others would do to them, and so the cycle continued on.

After discovering his talents for magi, Fionn knew where his path lied. Turning away from inheriting the sizable trading empire his family had built, Fionn devoted himself to the path of becoming a Master Magician. He worked himself to the bone, almost literally in his case, and during his very last year in the academy, somehow managed to be chosen for the Reckoning. Now, he can only hope he'll be able to hold out till the very end.

Body Built: lean and athlethic

Hair Color: blonde

Extra: All of her set of clothes cover her entire body because northland is such an unforgiving cold region.

Zima looks like a cold and no-nonsense person on the outside, probably because her most displayed expression is frowning. However she's actually a rather laid back person with a bad sense of humor. She took words literally and sarcasm oftenly fly past her. This traits surprisingly works well when ordering demon since she can usually spots something that can be interpreted in different ways, a loophole that is oftenly exploited by the demons to piss off or even kill their master. She also enjoys Totoro's rude antics.

Step by step, no need to rush.

Regarding her goal, she can be rather overly dedicated in it. Years passed by and she still dilligently collects all of the hisa'me's true names she came across and already piled three thick books worth of true names from various sources. She's very patient and methodical, and her workshop is neatly-arranged!

Background

The daughter of a well-known dragoon, Ivan Utkin. When she was young, she was approached by a beautiful figure covered in glittering snowflakes. She knew the creature was a Hisa'me, an unbound and dangerous one at that. Yet she didn't do anything to make it go away due to the Hisa'me's appearance that for some reason resembles her mother, a figure that she never met and only knows through the paintings.

The demon found her to be vulnerable yet they couldn't simply eat her soul due to her natural resistance. So they opted to suck her soul bit by bit, day by day. After a few weeks her father noticed how unhealthy she became and in a raging fit he hunted down the hisa'me and able to banish it back to the other side. He refused to talk about it further but decided to hire mentors, give her extensive workshop and even enroll her into Grishelgroft so she can protect herself. Zima, meanwhile, has different idea. She still longing for that cold yet blissful embrace, and she still has some questions for the Hisa'me. If she browse the catalouge of hisa'me, would she be able to summon them? but she didn't know their true name. If she asks the right demon would she be able to learn their true name? Who knows... but Highover Academy would open even more possibility for her.

Quirks:
  • He talks to himself a fair bit, especially when no one's around. Zelos is the exception - if he wants to talk to someone, he's the likely candidate. Even though the big guy isn't really the best conversationalist. (Sometimes, you might catch him talking to his cloak, too.)

Adrius C. Devereaux
Birth / Truename: Theo Lorcan

Age: 21

Race: Human

Homeland: Kal'Borias

School: The Ivory Tower

Gender: Male

Sexuality: Bisexual

Height: 170.18 cm (5 ft 7)

Body Build: Slight and lean physique. Well-suited for agility, not so much for anything more strenuous.

Eye Color: Sky blue

Hair Color: Light blond

Extra: His hair is wavy, clearly well cared for, and normally kept at around medium length; his eyes often have this spark of good humor in them, as if he's always got some joke in mind; and whenever he's not zoned out, he tends to smile fairly often. Usually, though, these are just relaxed and lazy, as opposed to full-on radiant grins.

His outfit varies, but he's seldom seen without his trusty cloak. Colored a deep emerald green and embroidered with intricate golden patterns, its sole purpose is to protect him from the elements. It's useful for little else, though one probably wouldn't think it with the way he wears it nearly all the time. For the most part, he only really takes it off when sleeping, bathing, or sometimes, fighting.
Psychological

Generally speaking, Adrius is known to have a somewhat upbeat and carefree demeanor, often opting to look on the bright side of almost any given situation and make the best of it. Despite his upbringing among the nobility, he's unusually informal in his interactions with other people, at least when he doesn't have to be. Be they noble or commoner, he's liable to treat them more or less the same way, his egalitarian mindset rendering him far from judgmental.

And, on this note, he also happens to enjoy conversation. He’s pretty friendly and willing to talk to almost anyone regardless of age, status, gender, class, and other such qualities, and those he chats with tend to find that he has zero qualms discussing virtually any topic, no matter how controversial. He’s generally open-minded and likes to know others’ views and perspectives on a particular topic, as he himself likes to look at things from multiple different angles. It also helps that he has a casual, light-hearted approach to most conversations, and can sometimes be found playing pranks or cracking jokes left and right - though, while it can help lighten the mood, such behavior isn’t always welcome in more formal or serious situations.

Adrius tends to also display a somewhat child-like curiosity, especially wherever magic and the arcane are concerned. This can be considered one of the drives behind his love of conversation, as he takes just as much interest in other people as he does the world at large. Hence, many conversations consist largely of him asking various questions about the person, their possessions, their experiences, or various abstract possibilities regarding each. Sometimes this can help him gain an understanding of the topic at hand, which comes in handy when it comes to problem-solving.

Despite all of this, Adrius also has his more reserved moments, when he isn’t feeling as chatty. These typically occur when he’s alone, but he can often drift into thought in the company of other people as well. He has a tendency to think a lot, and during such occasions, he can be pretty quiet. He also tends to be this way whenever he’s feeling gloomy, naturally, often accompanied by the desire to be left alone.

That said, he’s also a bit impulsive, and while this isn’t always the case, sometimes he can act before thinking, occasionally landing him in hot water as a result. While his aforementioned curiosity is often the primary drive behind this, it's also especially true whenever he's particularly emotional, such as when enraged. However, when it comes down to it, he will employ wit, resourcefulness, and quick thinking to get him out of ensuing trouble. This same ability to think on his feet also comes in handy when in actual danger.

In a similar vein, there is also a strong preference for avoiding conflict, whether that be physical or otherwise. Instead of fighting, he prefers to take a different approach and try and resolve the situation via more diplomatic means - and sometimes, failing that, he’s down to just flee instead. He can also appear to be somewhat passive a lot of the time, taking orders and the like without much issue usually. This could even be confused for apathy, as a lot of the time, he seems to have no strong feelings on a particular topic one way or the other (though that could also just be indecision, as he’s sometimes prone to that too).

He’s also pretty weird, or at least perceived as such. And to be frank, if you told him this, he'd likely agree. This may be because of his tendency to talk to inanimate objects, or because he sometimes tends to think out loud - especially since his thoughts kind of spring from one topic to the next in no time flat, oftentimes heading into strange territory. It doesn’t help that he’s pretty absent-minded, too, commonly forgetting what he was doing or saying just a minute ago.

All of this, combined with his generally unintimidating appearance, can make it a tad bit difficult for people to take him seriously at first. Which is fine by him, really.

"Would you like to hear about the first time I used wind magic? It was quite a breeze."

Yeah, and he also likes puns. Good or bad, he doesn't really discriminate.

On that note, humor seems to be the emotion he shows the most, as he’s certainly not afraid to laugh even at the worst jokes (unless they're exceedingly tasteless). As long as you try, you're good in his book.

On a separate note, whenever he's not laughing, that's a surefire sign that he's either really focused, really deep in though, or really upset. For him, negative emotions are seldom shown, subdued, and don't usually stick around for long, at least not while in public. Anger, for example, can sometimes manifest as passive-aggression, but it takes a certain amount of pushing before it outright flares up. In that case, he tends to be rather violent and outspoken, in sharp contrast to his usual behavior.

Even then, this tends to subside quickly, and he’s typically willing to forget and forgive in all the most extreme cases. He's not really known to hold grudges.

Background

Adrius doesn't remember much of his early life. What little he knows of it is owed to his parents, Ismira and Claudius Deveraux, who had apparently come by him in the Kal`Borian city of Ni`dara. In those days, he was known only as Theo "Clay" Lorcan, the name given to him by his mother. Unfortunately, she had passed away shortly after having him, leaving his father to raise little Clay on his own for the first few years of his life. Life as a commoner was hard, however, particularly in this region. It was hard to provide for himself, let alone a child as well. And though he did try, he also struggled endlessly in the process.

Luckily for him, he eventually found a way out of it. Perhaps more chance than anything, the opportunity presented itself when a certain noble came to town: Claudius Deveraux, who had apparently only dropped by to visit an associate of his.

Here, the relationship between the upper and lower classes was very much strained. However, in this case, there happened to be an exception to the rule: As it turned out, Theo's father had once been friends with this particular noble, as the two of them had apparently gone way back. They were simply two men who had gone down two very different walks of life. So imagine their surprise when they wound up running into one another for the first time in well over a decade.

Though fully conscious of their differences, Claudius decided to stick around, and the two men spent a good while catching up. While Claudius regaled him with tales of his family and his achievements, Theo's father could only speak of the way his own life had spiraled downward, and how difficult it was just to get by now. Then, he came to a realization: Claudius' family was much better off than his. Perhaps he could use that to his advantage?

After some consideration, he eventually made a proposition: He was clearly in no position to provide his son with... much of anything, really, but Claudius was. So maybe it would be best if he could just take in five-year-old Clay and give him a chance for a brighter childhood?

It was a long shot. He was so certain that this request would be denied, that when it actually wasn't, it came as a pretty big shock. There was some hesitation, of course - Claudius had to weigh the many risks of such a decision against the benefits. In the end, though, he decided that he'd take the chance, if only because of who this man was to him. Not to mention, his wife had been wanting to have another boy, and the opportunity to add one to the family was now staring him right in the face.

So, he figured, why not?

Before Claudius' eventual departure, he allowed Theo to have one last moment with his father. As of now, he can hardly remember it, but he recalled there being much hugging, as well as assurance that they would meet again. And that was the last Theo had seen of his father for a long time.

Thus, rather than growing up in abject poverty as an only child, Theo Lorcan - now renamed Adrius Clay Deveraux - went on to spend the rest of his youth living in the city of Tal`Vastok, where he and four other children were raised under the care of two doting parents. What ensued afterward was a wild fifteen years or so, during which Adrius got to experience life as a noble with many siblings. Though they were taught to be polite in public, things tended to get chaotic behind closed doors, particularly when their parents weren't around. If you ask him, many of his favorite memories involve some of the things they got into, whether they were caught or not. He may not have been related to them by blood, but he seemed to fit seamlessly into the family regardless, as if he'd always been a part of it.

At the same time, years without contact with his father resulted in Adrius knowing very little about him when he grew up. Whenever asked, he would be hard-pressed to remember how he looked, or how he sounded; he only really knew his name, Arthur Lorcan, and that was because his foster father had told him so. It wasn't really until more recent years that he had seen him again, paying a visit to his town of birth in hopes of potentially reconnecting with the man. While he succeeded in finding him, though, they weren't quite able to reestablish much of a bond, and he hasn't seen him much since.

At any rate, perhaps the most exciting chapter of his life is his becoming a Magician. He wouldn't be the only one in the family to do so - one of his three sisters, Esme, took up the profession, though she attended a lesser school of magic; while another, Lykeia, intends to study in the Ivory Tower once she becomes of age. His brother Damien, the eldest of them, had already done so, and he graduated years before Adrius had even gotten in. Though he hadn't become a Dragoon until well after Adrius began his studies, he always saw his older brother as a certified badass, and he was part of what inspired him to become a Magician in the first place.

Now, after having completed his studies in Kal`Borias and proven himself to be a natural Evoker, Adrius is on his way to Highover, where he hopes to follow in his brother's footsteps and become a Master Magician.

Klaus Willowhain
Birth / Truename: Khoba

Age: 22

Race: Human

Homeland: Dunbarton, Hinokian Empire

School: Sorcera al`Miransar

Gender: Male

Sexuality: Heterosexual

Height: 189 cm (6 ft 2)

Body Built: Mesomorph

Eye Color: Grey

Hair Color: Dark Brown

Extra: Is often seen in red and/or black attire. Klaus is always wearing a ring his mother would often wear around his neck.
Psychological

Initially very loud and reckless, Klaus thinks he has matured into a man that his mother and sister could be proud of. He believes that any problem or trial can be surpassed as long as you have courage and patience. Despite him having what some would call, a traumatic childhood, Klaus has managed to remain generally positive and does not seem too psychologically affected by the pain he's endured, demonstrating a noble, pure side of him. In reality, his mind is often cluttered with thoughts of dead loved ones. He believes that his grief will pass when he achieves his sister's dream.

Due to his carefree and eccentric nature, most people often think Klaus isn't prepared for The Reckoning or to take more responsibilities in his family.

"Endure and Persist."

Although lacking wisdom and real-life experience, Klaus is an intelligent individual. He is reticent and quite judgmental. His distance from others initially keeps him level-headed and somewhat moralistic. His morality is complex, almost juridical: Klaus values life and ethics, but he can dissociate his personal feelings from them. He refuses to accept himself as inferior to any opponent that he disagrees with, including those clearly stronger than him. His flaws lie in his temper and impulsive nature. Klaus can fail to think things through, and such actions lead to him suffering.

He is prone to fits of uncontrollable anger should the memory of his mother and sister be insulted in any way.
Background

Many years ago, the Willowhains, who at the time consisted of although wealthy, but mediocre magicians arranged a marriage with the Rhorsha's*. The Rhorsha's were a family of seemingly successful merchants who had unfortunately come into some financial troubles. Klaus's great grandmother, Caitlyn Rhorsha married Frederic Willowhain to preserve her family's reputation.

Today, the Willowhains and their extended family are highly respected throughout the Hinokian Empire. All bred and raised in the Willowhain Estate, magicians from this family have come to gain even more fame and wealth, two among them becoming Dragoons. Those who have steered away from the academies have continued the work of the Rhorsha's by expanding their influence in trade.

Klaus's father, Geoffrey (Rhorsha) Willowhain who served in the Arcana Council as a Dragoon and his father before him were placed as heads of the Willowhain Estate. Most decisions concerning the family, or their business would be run by them or their wives. Born five years after his sister, Jeana, Klaus was raised with the intention of becoming a Dragoon. His sister had already shown great potential, being sent to Sorcera al`Miransar when she reached the appropriate age. Despite his sister's very different schedule, she tried to maintain a relationship with her younger sibling.

With how his family operated, Klaus was forced to keep focus on his studies, never really having a social life until the age of 15. He considered himself close to his sister and parents, only speaking to his relatives during large events or in passing. Despite his whole life being focused on school and learning, his sister was the star pupil. Her dream was to join the Arcana Council like her father and bring her brother along with her. Klaus was proud of his sister but was never as interested in surpassing his cousins. He was a good student, but those who knew him were aware that he was easily distracted by the world around him.

By Klaus's 16th birthday, Jeana Willowhain had just passed The Reckoning, her entire family confident that she would one day become a master magician. After The Reckoning, Klaus was expecting his sister to visit him but she never arrived. He thought nothing of it, assuming she had other responsibilities. Two weeks had passed, and he heard nothing from his sister nor his parents who made sure to check up on him weekly. He would have shrugged it off if he had not noticed his teachers acting odd around him.

After a month of silence, Klaus was made aware by his parents that his sister Jeana had gone missing. This was very odd behavior, as Jeana was very connected with her family; almost everyone knowing where she was at all times. Klaus's parents assured him that he had nothing to worry about and she would come up in the next few weeks, if not days.

She never did.

To this day, no one knows where Jeana Willowhain is. Just when Klaus thought he had suffered enough grief, his mother, overcome with despair, ended her life 13 months later. In between and after these events, Klaus had stopped writing back to his family, focusing on his studies. He had gotten rid of any distractions, including friends. If he wasn't focused on schoolwork, his thoughts were on his mother and sister. Since the disappearance of his sister, he has taken school more seriously. While his father holds out hope, Klaus believes his sister is dead somewhere and wishes to take up her dream as his own.

In the last year or so, Klaus's father has been dealing with an unusual illness which forces him to remain home (symptoms include extreme fits of coughing, extreme nausea, and headaches when outside). As the Willowhains respect strength, it is possible his father may be replaced as head if he does not get better soon.

*By this time, the name "Rhorsha" has nearly been forgotten, their entire family switching to the Willowhain surname.

Psychological

Ayer is never found without a smile, one that openly displays the inner workings of another scheme or plan. Much like the clockwork he handles.

If there was one work that can describe him, it is that Ayer is 'Fascinated'. His obsession with uncovering secrets, particularly that of Enchantech comes all the way down even to the way he works and the way he sleeps. Despite having a lofty suite and comfy and plush bed, he chooses instead to slumber in a hammock within the dusty old laboratory wing of the Lecomte estate. His impatient and restless attitude often leads him to go out at odd hours of the night to 'come up with ideas' or to 'get a break from all the clutter', only to return back to the laboratory with a scone and a few scoops of ice cream tomorrow afternoon. But brimming with inspiration for a new project (The last one being put on hold for this). Much like the sniveling and yowling imps, he embodies that chaos. It is almost like a echoing orchestra how he bounces around workstation to workstation, banging and screwing and fidgeting with metals, somehow harnessing the dissaray into creating he intricate crafts he is known for. Often found reading, studying and fine-tuning diagrams etched sloppily from last night in his mind, despite this he will quickly pick up conversation with anyone that happens by. But this seemingly random nature has a purpose. Sometimes some random thing they say can lead to an epiphany that resolves his current predicament.

One mind is not enough. More the merrier!

Look forward to the future, old friend. A new world awaits us! Day by day.

Seen by more prude sorts as callous and undisciplined, Ayer takes this in stride. He takes the criticism and simply smiles, asking 'Does the way I enjoy my life annoy you?'. Though he doesn't have many human friends, Ayer is more than overjoyed with his impling companions, each of which are never seen far from him. In fact, he has neglected to use any other type demons in any capacity during his entire schooling career.

Because of this, many have come to calling him Imphugger, and Imp Bedder, among other degrading monikers.

Background

Ayer Lecomte was not his first name. But it is one Ayer has accepted.

The story does not start with Ayer himself, oddly enough. But rather, of his foster parent. Professor Vu' Arleon Lecomte is renowned in Grishelgroft Academy of Wizardry for his echantech research and mastery which lead to many magnificent crafts used by various militant organizations of Ishngard and the city-states of the Northlands. With how he rigorously and ruthlessly Arleon treated the students under his care, it was no surprise that his strict ethic translated to his own family life. When came to his birthday, not even his wife and children showed up bearing gifts for their father. Regardless, the man never wavered or changed. Why would he? His methods proved themselves moreover. No other person has raised as many Reckoning candidates as Arleon Lecomte. For decades he continued this way, until his fine black hair grew gray and brittle. Many thought he would die and at his funeral no one would appear. Knowing all of this, it was to the shock of the entire school when the solitary and decanter professor declared that he now had a new child. His colleagues, the students, and even unrelated supporting staff, were dumbfounded by the sight. The very same man who admonished and berated students for improper form, the man who denounced his own lazy and ungrateful children in the face of the public... Now stood in the entrance of the halls with a young boy wishing to enroll him into the academy.

Not just a someone, for that matter, but a what appeared to be a lowly peasant by the color of their ruddy red hair and freckled skin.

What was more, the child was a wide-eyed and reckless sort, causing mischief and spoke his mind no matter the situation. The child appeared almost as unruly as the Imps that followed him around. Sometimes one couldn't tell the difference between him and his sniffling familiars. Such a boy couldn't possibly be the worst match for Arleon Lecomte.

But despite it all, the old man looked at the boy with a fondness. No, more specifically, he looked at what the little boy could achieve. His form was eccentric, but immaculate in the sole result. Perhaps it was this contrasting nature that lured the old man to the boy, to study the anomaly firsthand. The child had a knack for parading the imps, thus was an exceptional student in the form of Enchantech. They willingly entered whatever tool he wished, and it was almost like the metal workshops dance and waltz under his command. Albeit, one of utter spiraling disaster to those around. Best of all, Arleon need not the frustration of caring for a child, for the boy seemed content enough with his band of 'friends' to keep company. All he needed to supply was the finance. It was almost like he was funding a personal project, watching perhaps his greatest creation unfold unto the world.

And so, Arleon can continue his solitary passion for proper magic etiquette, while Ayer is made free to harness his talent.

the nobility of an heiress;

In the public eye, Arya is a popular lady. One who brings honour and respect to her family, and surprisingly down-to-earth. She is patient, kind and enjoys small talk with the aristocrats and her fellow students. Her smile and mannerisms are warm and polite. Though her fashion choices could use some colour. Ever since she enrolled in Sorcera al`Miransar, the young lady was not seen in any colours other than black. And she even has a black witch's hat to match! When Arya was asked why she would only dress in such a depressing colour, she would always brush it off with her famous kind smile.

Arya isn't one to mind any defamation about her and still treats those that partake in the babble with kindness. Some take her gentle reaction graciously, but some find it obnoxious; slandering her for hiding her true thoughts and feelings behind closed doors. Arya may be surrounded by friendly schoolmates, but she finds that she doesn't have what many of them do. There always seems to be some distance when she tries to engage with someone. Luckily she has her foliot friend to confide and enjoy time with; even when he gets a little sassy. She also writes in her journal every night before sleep, usually about her progress in school and what she plans to do the next day. Arya loves routine and planning her schedule, almost to the point of obsession. Almost. You can expect her study notes to be written in perfect penmanship and she does it in such speed that her classmates find it obscene.

In school, she isn't one to compete amongst her peers, she believes hard work and determination will be recognised and rewarded. Hence, she helps her classmates when they do ask for her assistance. Arya does voluntarily help someone in need outside of the classroom, despite disliking messes and dirt but when push comes to shove, getting dirty (probably) would be the least of her problems.

Likes
Marshmallows and decorating them with cute faces, Black, Planning, Fine details in art/architecture/pentagrams.
Dislikes
Shallow mindsets, Windy days (it blows her hat away), Small talk, Being controlled and her plans going awry.
Loves
Having long conversations and spending time with Finneas, Collecting earrings and polishing them.
Fears
Disappointing her family, Insects and arachnids.
Quirks
Carries her journal at all times, Bites her thumb and mumbles when alone and lost in thought,

the honour of a sorceress;

Arya's family had a long history of powerful magicians in the Hinokian Empire. Many of them graduating top of Sorcera al`Miransar and had survived The Reckoning, including her parents. The Holmes are no strangers in the world of magic. They make generous donations to both the Hinokian's Academy as well as the Highover Institute annually and are also on friendly terms with some Arcana Council members. The Holmes' belief was to continue their bloodline with a partner of equal power and prestige in order for them to inherit and grow stronger than the previous generation. When their newest addition came to the family, the couple raised Arya prim and proper, she had attendants for every little whim but she was also disciplined early in her childhood to prevent her from becoming spoilt and straying what was important: To uphold their family's status and be a master magician.

That was drilled into Arya that it was her dream, her responsibility to continue the line of Master Magicians. Being an heir of a noble family attracted a lot of eyes and many expectations on Arya. Praises and compliments were just as much as malicious rumours and gossip. She had tutors for music and art and even mannerisms. One mistake by the young lady heiress would make her parents look bad in the media, and her accomplishments were not her own but because of the Holmes bloodline.

As much as it was a privilege living in the Holmes household, it was also suffocating. She's always done what she was told to do, where to go when, dresses they way she was told to, ate only what she's allowed; every part of her life so far has been decided for her. It felt like she was a prized bird for her family to show off. Arya wasn't sure if they truly loved her, but she's been taught to be grateful for what she has and she is. She knows not everyone has a life like hers, and she appreciates what her parents had done thus far for them to continue living this way. Perhaps that is why she treats everyone as equally as she could despite age, gender, or status.

When she came of age to enter the academy, Arya wrote a written contract with her parents to allow her to dress and eat whatever she liked as long as she kept her grades at the top. Her parents found it odd that their child had to present a written promise for such childish things. They went along with it, with a few amendments made of course. She must always wear her family crest in public, she wasn't allowed any body or hair modifications, and she still had to keep her diet and exercise but she was allowed to try and consume a healthy amount of new cuisines and foods. Excited that she got her way (sort of), she was determined to uphold her side of the agreement and worked harder than ever.

In her last year of the academy, Arya received the invitation to The Reckoning. As she heads to Highover with her head held high and held even higher thanks to her witch's hat; she thought excitedly about writing a new contract when she gets home.
