He walked the hallways of the school with his head down and his eyes focused on his phone. What did he want to tell the girl that he liked? Well, there were a hundred of things he wanted to say to her. He wanted to tell her that he thought she was pretty and that she smelt nice. But then he thought about how creepy that sounded. And then he wanted to say how amazing she was for her attitude towards life and how she was always so happy. But then that would be making assumptions that she was happy behind closed doors too. Finally, he wanted to tell her that he thought that the dress she wore the other day to the café was beautiful. But then that would make him not only seem like a stalker but also like he was someone who was only focused on what people looked like.

Minjoon released a frustrated sigh, tilting his head back for a moment and turning his head ever so slightly to give his neck a little crack. Since when did telling someone that you like them – or telling someone something that you like about them – was so hard? This was his first time and man, he was running out of time. White Day was slowly approaching, and he was not about to go with his brother’s ideas of what to send.

Shi-Won, his eldest brother at thirty-two, told him to write a love letter explaining how he’d like to see them together, married with children and how they could have a bright future together. He was only seventeen. There was a hundred per cent chance he would scare the damn girl if he talked about having children with her.

Then his twenty-nine-year-old brother, Young-Su, told him not to keep secrets and to be completely open. That was rich coming from a guy who had been in the closet until he was twenty-seven years old and already two years deep into a relationship.

Jae-Hui, his twenty-seven-year-old brother, went the more reckless approach and told him to send a dick picture. Yeah, there was no way in hell that was ever going to happen. Sometimes Minjoon wondered how the hell his brother was even engaged with some of the stuff that came out of his dirty mouth.

Finally, his fourth brother at the age of twenty-five, Sung-Jin, told him to write a poem or a song for her. To record himself playing his guitar and singing to her because that’s when he felt most comfortable. He wasn’t wrong. Minjoon felt most at ease while he was playing his guitar and singing. It was almost like he was in another little world all by himself. But… she’d think it was weird. Wouldn’t she? Yeah… One hundred per cent she’d think that’s weird.

Slipping his phone back into his jacket pocket, he continued to follow the other students who filed their way into the library. Upon entering the library, there was something Min-Joon noticed upon the whiteboard that was standing before the groups of tables. There were… names? Wait… Why was… His name with… His eyes widened. Oh dear Lord. No. No, no, no, no. These were assigned groups, weren’t they?

Please look at the board to see who is in your group for our next assignment, and sit down at a group table with them” the teacher signified to the students as they made their way through, pausing in front of the whiteboard. Every single name on that list made his heart thump in his chest and sick to his stomach. He didn’t do well with group projects. Not at all. And the fact there were certain people in this said group project really didn’t help.

Awkwardly, Min-Joon walked away from the whiteboard to allow the other students to look at the names. The poor boy was shaken to the core and knew that he needed to sit down somewhere. So, he took a seat down at one of the group tables, praying that those in his group were going to come to him and sit down. Otherwise, he was going to have to do that awkward little tango of moving seats. Oh, man… it was going to be a long day, wasn’t it?

I thought that your outfit was lovely today. Blue really suits you! I hope you have a wonderful day.

-Your Secret Admirer

Areum had been having so much fun with the secret admirer message system ever since it was announced. She had mostly used it to send random messages to friends, despite having their phone number to text them. It just felt even nicer to send people nice compliments without them knowing it was her. Some of the people she messaged weren't exactly friends, but she viewed them as potential friends. Everyone appreciated compliments didn't they?

She, herself, had gotten quite a few messages. Most of them from Eun-Ji because they had been sending them back and forth almost as fast as they talked. That's what best friends did. One she had tracked the source down to another friend of her's, yet a few had been a complete mystery. Did people really like her this much? It seemed like it. Not like she was going to do anything about it, but it was nice to hear sweet comments. It made her want to send even more messages because of how happy it made her.

The morning had gone by smoothly, after being dropped off at the school by her mother, Areum had found her bestie just like every day. The two were really inseparable. It was nice to have the right of way everywhere she went in the hallway as she made her way to class. Most of the first years learned pretty quick that she did not mind running over toes with her wheelchair if they stood in her way. She would apologize after, of course. Sometimes people just needed to learn the hard way. Hey, at least it was just their toes. And she was light too. Imagine if she was 200lbs heavier. Omg, she'd never do it then.

Wheeling into the library for their literature class, the girl heard the announcement from the teacher. Oh! She was so excited to see who her group was going to be. Areum hoped with all her heart that Eun-Ji would be in her group. As she looked up at the list of names, her eyes widened in glee. "JIJI!!! We're in the same group!!" She squealed with glee, grabbing onto her friends hand and shaking it aggressively. Two of the names she had hardly heard, especially one. Hyun-Woo had just moved to their school at the beginning of the year, just a few days ago. Somehow whenever she wanted to say hello, the other boy was nowhere to be found. Well, today they would finally have a proper introduction. Si-Yeon was the other. The girl was rather quiet, despite being in the same class they barely spoke to each other. Maybe this was a chance to make a new friend!

The other two names were Dong-Hyun and Min-Joon. Dong-Hyun was a good friend. He was sweet and often hung out with her and Eun-Ji due to all three of their love of art. What were the chances that she got two of her closest friends in her group? Today must be her lucky day or something! Min-Joon was another quiet person. Actually, did he even talk?? He worked in the same cafe as her best friend, so she saw him often since she liked to hang out there. He never seemed to talk to her though, try as she may. Areum thought maybe he didn't like her or something. Well...too bad. He was going to be her friend and this group project was a great help. Nothing like forced interaction over their shared goal of an A.

Areum looked around the library to find a table. Her eyes lit up when she recognized Min-Joon sitting by himself at the table. There was no point in going somewhere else if he already had a table for all of them. Rolling on over rather swiftly, she gave him a wide smile as she pulled up to sit right across from the boy. "Hiii~ Min-Joon-ie! I'm so glad we get to work together!! How are you?? Did you have a nice evening?" She asked brightly. Oh, this was going to be so much fun!!

The bustle of the hallway was just noise to Siyeon, the laughter of her classmates or the playful teasing between friends was something she didn't really care about, she had other things to worry, like money being enough this month and she wouldn't have to use her savings to finish paying all the expenses, she couldn't even remember the last time she had a decent meal that didn't consist of an old granola bar or if she was lucky enough instant noodles, no one would call that a meal, but that's what Siyeon had to deal when the few money the family had been mostly spent on alcohol and drugs.

Living one day at a time wasn't easy, so she didn't have the time to have her mind thinking on friends, boyfriends or even the secret admirer thing that it seemed it was the thing that was popular around the school, especially since white day was coming, she was fine being on her own and not having to worry about making connections with someone else, since it was a fact that no one was going to help her or even care about her.

Just like the rest of her classmates, she went towards the library, it seemed they were going to have their class there and as she arrived she noticed a bunch of her classmates around the whiteboard as the teacher mentioned that they were going to work on groups for their next assignment if there was something Siyeon hated was working on groups, she didn't talk to any of her classmates, so there was always this awkward environment when she was around and she couldn't understand the meaning of school projects, sure it was a more interactive way to learn something and have your creativity run free, but that also meant spending money for materials, money that she didn't have and now was obligated to spend because of a grade.

As she made her way to see who her team partners would be, Siyeon listened to how Areum was excited to be partnered with Eunji, who happened to be her best friend too, both of them seemed so happy and excited for the assignment, but as much as they were mostly the ones that would be the bring up everyone's spirits, that was for sure a combination Siyeon wanted to avoid as much as she could, she didn't dislike them, she wasn't even close to them but she tried to avoid them because it made her extremely overwhelmed and also because their personalities couldn't be more different.

But luck wasn't on Siyeon side because she was paired with Eunji and Areum, the ones she wanted to avoid the most out of everyone in the class, the other ones of her group were Dong-Hyun, Hyun-Woo, and Min-Joon, at least the rest of the group seemed calmer and maybe Dong-Hyun could tame Eun-Ji and Areum so they wouldn't be too excited over everything, she let out an annoyed sigh after seeing the list and as she made her way towards the table where Min-Joon, Areum, and Eun-Ji were already, she took a seat as far of the trio as if the distance would avoid that they would talk to her.

Eun-Ji was excited for a new day at school, it was sunny and nice, she was seeing her friends again and she was excited about the secret admirer message, would she receive one today? She hoped so, she would feel extremely happy but also embarrassed if someone sent her a cute message, but if she didn't she would get upset about it, she could always send a message of Areum, telling her she was the best friend of the world or something cheesy like you are the peanut butter to my jelly Eun-Ji was was sure that would make her smile and she liked making people smile.

She and Areum headed to the library, as Eun-Ji was talking to her best friend about the painting she wanted to do, but that needed to go to buy supplies, it could have been said in just a couple of sentences, but Eun-Ji was the type of person to create a complete story for the most common thing, she was glad that she finished telling Areum about her paint adventure when they arrived at the library and just as she stepped inside and Areum wheeled herself the teacher made an announcement about a group project.

Eun-Ji loved team projects, she thought it was amazing you could spend time with your friends doing something fun while also learning something, all the time they spent together working but also doing dumb stuff in their free time made her really happy, she couldn't wait to know who her teammates would be, she was hoping she would be with Areum, they worked well together, she wasn't sure if it was because they understood the other or because they shared the same brain cell that made them know what the other was thinking.

She was searching for her name when she listened to Areum exclaimed excitedly that they were on a team together "Really?! That's amazing!" she replied as she gave small happy jumps as Areum shook her hand. When she found out the group, she read the rest of the names, it was an interesting group for sure, but that just made things more interesting. Dong-Hyun was one of her best friends and he always had good ideas, so she was happy they would work together, Minjoon was quite a shy boy, well really an extremely shy boy, but he was nice, and she knew what he had to deal with her dad, so she thought it was nice he had something like her that he was somehow comfortable to be around, Siyeon and Hyun-Woo, well they were a mystery to her, but this only meant it was an opportunity to befriend them and she was set to do it.

Eunji followed Areum that was heading towards the table that Min-Joon already was, she took a seat next to Areum "Hi Min-Joon! Let's have fun while we work together" she said with a smile, it didn't take long until someone else joined the table and it happened to be Siyeon "Hi Siyeon! Are you excited about the project? I'm sure is going to be really fun that we all get to work together!"

Hey weirdo. You're kinda funny....

-Your Secret Admirer

It felt like he was always on the struggle bus these days. Hyun-Woo had just about fallen asleep on his bus ride to school. He hasn't slept well the night before. Honestly, when did he sleep well? Not often. If it wasn't homework, it was Sang-Eun, his younger sister, if it wasn't those two things it was stress and anxiety about the next day. He didn't understand why he was always checking over his shoulder. It's like Hyun expected the vandals and classroom bullies from Daegu to have followed him all the way to Seoul. To ruin their one chance at a fresh start.

Last night it had been a combination of stressing over today's work load. Everything seemed to pile up so fast. They obviously expected a lot of them as third years. He felt behind, the advanced math class he had been placed in was already kicking his butt. Had to be an overachiever didn't he? Couldn't have just gone for the easy A huh Hyun? I guess old habits die hard. Hard work and doing his absolute best had been engrained in him since he was a young child, there was no way to break that now.

By the time he had fallen asleep, just a few hours later he was awoken by the small voice of his baby sister. Her nightmares always seemed to be getting worse. The monsters that pounded on the door or took him and their Eomma away. Everytime she retold her dreams to him he could see the parallels with their own living nightmare. The mob that formed outside their house at night to condemn them for his father's supposed actions. Or when the police came and escorted their Appa away in the middle of dinner. The fact Sang-Eun was yet to see him since and know why he was taken away probably added to her fear. The only way Hyun-Woo could get her to calm down was to have her climb into bed next to him. Sang-Eun kicked a lot in her sleep. Needless to say the rest of his night wasn't very restful.

Hyun had stopped at a convenience store on his way to school to grab a coffee. He decided to buy two. Both for him. He could use all the caffeine he could get. Hyun often purposely avoided getting to school early. It was bad enough he had a chatty desk mate. He just wanted to stear clear of possible interactions as much as possible. It wasn't like he had friends to talk to, but he also didn't want to accidentally make some. Which was probably why he dreaded the idea of a group project. Hyun also just hated group work in general. It was so much faster and easier for him to do it himself.

The boy had basically ignored the whole secret admirer thing. He had logged in once out of curiosity. Hyun didn't expect, or want, any messages. It wasn't that he disliked the idea of having a girlfriend or someone to give a gift to on white day. Girlfriends were great. But he didn't have time for that. Between picking up extra shifts, homework, and trying to take care of his family as best he could, he didn't believe there wasn't much room in his schedule.

The very last students to file into the library for their literature class, Hyun waited patiently away from the crowd that looked for their names among the formed groups. One hand in his pocket, the other holding his half empty coffee, he finally made it to the list. It took him a moment to find his own name. It was hard, being the new kid. He didn't know anyone's names to faces, save a few. So reading down through the list, he could barely picture any of them. Wait. Wasn't Areum the girl in the wheelchair? Was that...like.... insensitive to remember her in that way? Oh well. It wasn't like he said it out loud or something.

Hyun looked around, finding the one person he could put a name to and making his way over to the table where, what he assumed, was his group was. He set down his bottle on the table and shrugged off his backpack to rest next to the chair. He tried to pick one away from people, but it seemed like the further spot was already taken by another girl. So he sat down next to her. She seemed like the least talkative out of all the people here as the other two girls were pretty loud from what he understood.

Slouching down into his chair, he finally looked up at the last person since his back was to him. In that very moment Hyun realized who this kid was. His eyes narrowed as his face set into a dissatisfied glare. What had he heard? Min-Joon? So that was his name. Hyun-Woo may not have known his name, but he couldn't forget his face. The face that made him bubble inside with annoyance. The guy could be nice, but he didn't care. First impressions made a huge difference and Min-Joon made a terrible one on Hyun. An already awful night at work after a fight with his Eomma made worse by a guitar hitting a display that was worth 2 hours of work, knocking every single doo-dad and thing-a-ma-jig to scatter on the floor. He had to stay an extra two hours after his shift to fix it. As soon as it happened, Hyun wanted to ring the idiot's neck.

That feeling was still present within him. He took an aggregated sip from his coffee. Now he really didn't want to be in this group. It meant he not only had to suffer through the torture of doing 5 people's jobs like he always did, but he also had to work with someone who he couldn't stand. Call him dramatic if you will, but it felt like the world was against him. Literally nothing went his way ever. And of course his terrible luck wouldn't change for one dumb term project. He just hoped that no one spoke in his direction. But who was he kidding? Of course they would. The universe hated him.

yoon donghyun

“It was like you brought
colour
to my life. You changed my life, all by yourself.”

Dong-hyun was in a decidedly bad mood today. His little brother, Jae-hyun, had been having girlfriend troubles lately and decided to take out his anger on poor Soo-ah. That left Dong-hyun to drop off a crying eight year old at school and walk an angry fifteen year old to the bus stop. He had somehow managed to console Soo-ah enough to get her and Soo-yeon to school, and he was now walking with Jae-hyun, a tense silence hanging between them. He was holding back the urge to lecture the boy. No, that could wait until after school.

As they arrived at the bus stop, Dong-hyun decided to speak. "Go and apologise to your girlfriend."
His brother sent a scowl in his direction. "The guy who's never even had a girlfriend sure doesn't have room to talk." He grumbled. Wow, this kid was really getting on his nerves today. He raised a leg to kick him lightly on the butt. "Go. This should be good practice, since you're going to have to apologise to your little sister when you get home." Jae-hyun boarded the bus, still mumbling his oh-so-clever comebacks.

The wheels squealed as the bus took off, and Dong-hyun was finally left standing alone. Who knew raising a teenager was so stressful? As he began to walk again, the school being only a ten minute walk from here, he hoped to be born an only child in his next life. He took out his phone and switched it on. Ping! Ping! Ping! A series of notifications popped up on the screen. Ah, it was that secret admirer thing. He had to admit he wasn't a fan. Rather than typing messages on a phone, wouldn't a handwritten love letter be way more romantic? The idea of the girl he liked standing in front of him with an envelope containing a confession of love, or him opening his locker to find a carefully crafted letter... just the thought of it made his heart skip a beat! But maybe he was being too old fashioned? All his little siblings had told him that he should try it out.

"Nam Eun-ji..." Dong-hyun muttered to himself as he typed in her name. Ah, there it was. He pressed on her profile and a text box popped up. He paused for a moment, wondering what he should write.

morning ^^ it's me, your mystery admirer

No, that sounded way too creepy. He erased the message, this time trying to think of what Eun-ji would want to hear. Didn't she like photography? The weather was pretty good today. He looked up at the blue sky and snapped a picture of it.

the sky is so pretty today. it reminded me of you.

... Would she like that? Writing this stuff was kind of embarrassing. Where was the line between romantic and cheesy? He had always been on the receiving end of these kinds of things, so he had no idea what was considered normal. He pressed send. Well, if it made her smile, even if it was a mocking smile, he didn't mind too much.

He arrived at school just before the start of class. Right, their first class was in the library. He followed the crowd of people inside, coming face to face with the whiteboard. A group assignment? Huh. Interesting. Depending on whether the people in his group did any work or not, it could either be a match made in heaven or a recipe for disaster. Well, it was usually the latter.

Looking at the board, it seemed like he was in a group with... Oh Min-joon, Kang Areum, Hwang Si-yeon, Nam Eun-ji, and Park Hyun-woo. It was a bit of a mixed bag. Of course, he was happy to be in a group with Areum and Eun-ji. The pair came as a matching set, and they had always been a good influence on him. The other three, however, he didn't know too well. Min-joon was a quiet kid, but he seemed nice enough. Si-yeon was quiet too. She had an aura of mystery around her. When he thought about it, he didn't know much about her at all. Finally, there was Hyun-woo. The guy was so good at disappearing that he was practically a magician. He didn't think they'd shared a single proper conversation since he'd transferred to their school. Dong-hyun sighed. Would they all be able to work together well?

Walking up to the table, everyone in his group was already there. "Morning, everyone!" He said, taking a seat in the last unoccupied chair. The mood of this table was giving him emotional whiplash. On one side, Areum and Eun-ji were excited, as usual. And on the other, the rest had a very 'I don't want to be here' kind of aura. He cleared his throat. "So, uh... we're making a play right? Does anyone have any ideas for what book we should adapt?"

Areum was before him, with that bright smile and bubbly personality shining through all her words. But then he felt something… He… He felt like he was going to be sick. His stomach was curling in waves and sat uncomfortably in the pit of his stomach. He was feeling shortness of breath, causing his chest to feel some discomfort and… Oh, no. He learnt about this in his health class. He was having all the classic symptoms of a heart attack, wasn’t he? Wait – did he have any discomfort or pain in his arm, shoulder, back, neck or jaw? Well, he didn’t before, but now he was starting to question himself that maybe – just maybe – he was feeling those pains.

God, he hoped the people in this library knew how to do basic first aid and he wouldn’t find himself dying of a heart attack at the age of seventeen because his crush decided to come up and say hello to him. Minjoon could barely form any words, his heart still thundering and his cheeks exploding in a shade of tomato as the girl had called him ‘Min-Joon-ie’ ever so brightly. His mouth hung slightly and he had to kick his brain to try and think of something to say. Alas, no words were coming out. So, instead, he simply gave her a quick head nod before turning his attention to the other people who were joining the table with them.

Eunji, of course, was by Areum’s side and was another bright, bubbly spirit for the group. After all, she was nice to him at work and always greeted him at school which was pleasant. Then that girl – Siyeon – sat down at the table. He had seen her around before but never really spoke to her. Well, she sat as far away from the three of them as possible. Ouch. And then… oh God no. He saw that guy from the shop placing his bottle onto the table and sitting down at the same table. Oh, sweet Jesus. If he wasn’t going to die of a heart attack because of Areum’s sweet words, then he was surely going to die in the hands of this guy. He could feel himself tense up just looking at the back of the guy’s head -

Oh, crap!

The said person turned around with narrowed eyes, and Min-Joon thought he was going to crap his pants there and then. He quickly averted his gaze from the guy to… well… the table? Why the hell did he look at the table? That made it so obvious that he had been looking at him to begin with. Jesus Christ. He could feel the guy’s sharp, knife-like glares upon his body. Just keep your head down. Keep it down, don’t look at him – or Areum – and you’ll do fine he kept on reminding himself over and over again.

Morning, everyone!

Wait. That was – Min-Joon brought his gaze up to look at who had just sat down. He wasn’t sure if he was happy or annoyed with Donghyun’s presence. Happy that they had a strong male figure within the group who would probably protect him from being killed by that murderer that worked in the shops. But annoyed because he had seen the way Areum was around him. Sure, she was kind to everyone. But for some reason, when she was kind to Donghyun, it just rubbed him the wrong way. Was he jealous? Oh, no. No. No. No. Never. Okay, maybe a little. Maybe it was because Donghyun had this confidence that Min-Joon struggled to even fathom.

At the boy’s question, there were a thousand of things that Min-Joon wanted to say. He wanted to tell him about the different plays that he had enjoyed reading and which ones would be awesome to adapt to because there were just so much they could do with it. However… something stopped him. Ah, yes. It was that confidence levels that he had been talking about before. Had it been just him and Dong-Hyun speaking, he probably would’ve told the boy all his thoughts in a slow, timid matter. However, it wasn’t just the pair of them. And that meant that there were more people to disappoint if they didn’t like his idea.

So, instead, he remained quiet and gazed around their little dysfunctional group. God, he hoped that someone would speak up soon.

It was obvious, that Min-Joon wouldn't say a lot, while Areum and she, said like 10 words in a second, she was sure that he said the same amount of words in 24 hours and maybe she was exaggerating with the number of words, and he even said less. So, when he gave a quick nod, in Min-Joon's language it meant that he was fine, and he was having a nice evening or something like that she was still learning it.

And just like Min-Joon, who was a person with of few words the same could be said from Si-Yeon, who at her question, just shrug her arms shyly, did that meant that she was happy or no? Well, Eunji was hoping she would be happy to be with them, she wanted to befriend Siyeon since it seemed she didn't have a lot of friends, and she was sure she would just fit perfectly in her group of friends along with Areum and Donghyun.

Since it seems there wasn't a lot of talkative people in their group, Eunji decided to play a little bit on her phone. As soon as she opened it up, she received the small notification from the secret admirer, seeing it, it made her heart skip a beat. Would it be a message from one of her friends or her true secret admirer, she had been receiving cute messages from someone anonymously and that always swell her heart, when she opened the message it was in fact from her secret admirer.

The sky is so pretty today. it reminded me of you. Those were the words of the message along with a picture of the sky, it was so pretty, when she read the message she could feel her cheeks getting red, that was the sweetest thing someone has ever said to her, was she as pretty as the sky? She put her phone close her heart almost hugging the small object, the person who wrote the message was just the sweetest in the world.

Eunji wondered who her secret admirer could it be one of her classmates? Or maybe it was the cute guy from the class next to them? She was sure that he smiled at her when she was walking in the hallway? What if it was someone younger than her, from a year below her? Would she be a noona? Eunji didn't think she would be one, she thought she was too bubbly and innocent to be one. And if her secret admirer was in her team? No, that couldn't be true, Min-Joon was too shy and she was sure the other wasn't the type of person they liked, Hyun-Woo the new kid was really cute, but also quite scary especially the glare, he was giving to Min-Joon at that moment, but who knew maybe he was just really sweet, but would he be crushing on someone that fast since it hadn't been long since he moved? What if it was... "Donghyun! We were waiting for you, you are the last from our team" she said happily.

Eunji was really happy to have Donghyun in their team, he was always so reliable they had nothing to worry about along as Donghyun was there with them, at the moment she remembered she hasn't written message for him in the secret admirer, You are the best art buddy and friend I could have asked for! Smile a lot today! she wrote to him. As soon as she finished sending the small message to Donghyun, she heard him asked for opinions about which play they should make "I have a perfect idea!" she said as she stood up from her chair excitedly "We can make Snow White! The Disney version! Si-Yeon could be the Queen, Hyun-Woo can be Grumpy, Min-Joon can be Sleepy, Areum can be Happy, Donghyun can the Prince and I can be Snow White" she said happily, she wasn't sure if they would agree with her idea and casting "Or you know I could play Dopey if someone else wanted to play Snow White" she added embarrassed as she took a seat on her chair again.

"Hi Siyeon! Are you excited about the project? I'm sure is going to be really fun that we all get to work together!" Was the cheerful welcoming of Eunji to Siyeon, and just by those sentences the girl already felt overwhelmed by her presence, was she excited about the project? No, she wasn't, she just wanted to avoid working with other people at all, but she couldn't say that out loud, well, she could, but she just wanted to get lost in the shadows rather than being the instigator of drama, besides if she argued with Eunji, wasn't that consider making a kid upset? Everyone would hate her, so she just shrugged her arms trying to avoid the conversation which miraculously happened since the girl stopped talking to her.

It didn't take long until their group of four turned into a group of five when someone else joined and he decided to sit next to her why he was sitting next to her, he couldn't read the room and realized she didn't want to be near anyone, he could sit next to the others why he decided to sit next to her did he didn't know about personal space, and he for sure was invading her personal space.

And who he thought he was, bringing a coffee and putting on the table just like that, did he didn't care that there were people that didn't have breakfast, well, maybe that was a bold statement when she was probably the only one out of the group that didn't eat breakfast and that didn't eat dinner, but still it was rude. Why did he have to come with that to the library? That would only make Siyeon's stomach to ask for food and she didn't have anything to eat, the coffee guy was just being rude, and if her stomach rumble it was all his fault.

Maybe she was into her thoughts, wanting just to control her need to take a sip of the coffee of that guy, who she was kidding she wanted to drink the complete bottle just to have something on her stomach, that she jumped a little bit when the loud voice of Eunji was heard greeting Donghyun, the last member of their group, that only meant they would have to start talking about the project something she didn't want to do.

It seemed that Donghyun was going to become the leader of their group since he was the one that asked for ideas for their play, Siyeon for sure had some options in mind, working on a book store had their advantages, she couldn't count how many times she had arranged the drama books, because people would just put the books in the wrong place, but did they needed to know that she worked on a bookstore? No, and she wasn't planning on mentioning unless she was asked.

As her loud self, Eunji decided to speak first saying she had a perfect idea, Siyeon was confused about what idea could come up from Eunji's mind, maybe she wasn't supposed to have big expectations since the girl said they should do Snow White and started assigning roles to everyone, Why was she the villain? Sure, the Queen was badass, but why could she never be the princess? Why could she never have anything nice in life? She just wanted not to be the bad guy or the one that had too many problems. Was that too much to ask for? Probably yes, because life just constantly reminded her that girls like Eunji and Areum were supposed to be the princess while she would never have her happy ending.

Did she really need to say something? half of the group didn't say a word so if things continued like that, they would end wearing dumb dwarfs hats, she was going to hate herself for it later "I think something of Shakespeare would fit better, like Romeo & Juliet or A Midsummer Night's Dream, but if you want to do Snow White, that's fine with me" she said with a small shrug.

Areum kept the happy smile on her face as Min-Joon said absolutely nothing in return to her two questions. But she did get a nod. That was....something. Was she being too forward? Why didn't he like her so much? Did she annoy him? He seemed so off when she spoke to him. His face twisted in some emotion, she wasn't sure what, she just knew it wasn't good. Well, she'd just have to try harder, maybe Eun-Ji could help her with how to better talk to Min-Joon to make him like her. Or at least speak back to her. It was starting to really bug her. She was starting to wonder if she even knew what his voice sounded like.

The girl looked from the boy in front of her to the person joining their table next. It was Si-Yeon, the last of the girls in their little group. The quiet one in the back of their class. She was mysterious to Areum, that was for sure. They maybe had talked twice, probably about homework since she was often asked by the teacher to talk to the ones who struggling or missed class. Eun-Ji was the first to talk to her, Areum just happily nodded along with her statement, watching her with interest to see what she'd say. Yet once again, she said nothing. Another non talker. Hmm, this was becoming more and more challenging. But she never shyed away from a competition. Was shy even in her vocabulary?

Their group was growing rapidly as the second boy appeared almost out of thin air. Geez that kid was stealthy. Hyun-Woo slouched into his seat, another silent person. Though his eyes fell on..she followed his line of sight to Min-Joon. Areum would not have described the new kid's expression as happy. Maybe he was tired. He did have a coffee in front of him, were those bags under his eyes? That's not very nice Areum. What if his eyes are always like that and you're just being mean. She thought to herself. Right...sorry. "Hi Hyun-Woo! I don't think we have officially met before. I'm Areum, this is Eun-Ji, Min-Joon, and Si-Yeon. Dong-Hyun isn't here yet. It's nice to finally get to chat!" Areum made sure to gesture to everyone so that he was acquainted with who they were.

Hyun-Woo responded with one nod and... was that a smile? It looked like he tried anyway. "Yeah, thanks...uh....you too." Her face instantly lit up. Finally someone who talked. This was definitely the first time they ever spoke to each other, so it was nice to actually hear him speak. Plus she was already tired of brick wall (*cough cough* Min-Joon) after brick wall (*cough cough* Si-Yeon). She was even more delighted that despite his rather unamused expression and somewhat off putting energy, that he was nice. Areum was hopeful that everyone would be able to work together on this project. She would do her best to play her part....get it???

The last person to join their group was Dong-Hyun. He got a wide smile and happy wave from Areum. Thank God someone else was here who could speak more than 5 real words. Sure, her and Eun-Ji could talk to each other for hours and hours, but that would be rude to everyone else in the group. Dong-Hyun greeted everyone with an upbeat attitude. "Morning Hyunnie!" She responded with just as much pep. She was glad that he brought up the reason they were all sitting together, to decide their book. Areum thought for a moment. She loved to read, especially poetry. Shakespeare made his plays like poetry, and they were classics of course. She hummed quietly to herself as the gears in her brain were turning. It was hard to know what everyone else would like. Sure, she could pick her own favorite, but what if someone hated her favorite? She didn't want to make someone do something that they hated.

Eun-Ji quickly declared that she thought Snow White would be a good pick. She even listed off possible roles everyone could have. That was a nice idea, but maybe not for everyone. Si-Yeon seemed to be one of those people it wasn't for. She suggested a Shakespearean play. Hey! She thought of that too! Twinsies! "All good suggestions, but let's not decide too fast! I'll start making a list of possibilities," She put her two cents in, "I think everyone should agree on what we do, that way it's fair." Areum reached back behind her into the backpack on her wheelchair to grab a pen and a notebook. She quickly scribbled down snow white, romeo and juliet, and midsummer's night. "Any other suggestions? I'm still thinking!" She looked expectantly at the rest, hoping for something different from what they had already. Ugh, it was so hard to choose!

Hey weirdo. You're kinda funny....

-Your Secret Admirer

No sooner as he sat down did Hyun hear a voice in his direction, almost yelling his name. Eyebrows lifted in question as he felt his body jolt very subtly. Geez that girl was loud. His head slowly turned to look the girl in the eyes. Areum was talking to him. Based on the little he knew about her, he never should have been so surprised that she would have been the first to talk to him. Which was why he normally avoided this girl like the plague. Now he was trapped in a group, forced to make conversation with her. He didn't want to be rude, being rude brought just as much attention to yourself that being loud. How could he be the most boring possible? To be honest, it wasn't hard for him. Hyun never was the greatest conversationalist. Even less so since his life fell apart.

He was thankful, despite feeling betrayed that she spoke to him at all, that she introduced everyone to him. That was probably the most awkward part. Not knowing everyone's names made it hard, but not wanting to ask for them made it 10x harder. He gave her the bear minimum positive expression he could. "Yeah, thanks..." He told her, pausing for a second before realizing he should acknowledge the fact she had said something nice. "Uh..you too." It wasn't exactly true it, he didn't enjoy chatting, but now was not the time to be passive aggressive. Hyun-Woo tapped his fingers on the bottle of coffee in front of him, praying for the caffeine to hit him any second now. He was seriously wishing he had learned how to sleep with his eyes open. That would be such a useful skill.

It was then that he felt eye on him, noticing out of the corner of his eye that the girl, who Areum introduced as Si-Yeon, was glaring at his coffee. He glanced over at her, eyeing her judgmentally right back. What was her problem? Did she have something against cold brew? He literally just sat down, what could she look so angry over? He hadn't said more than 5 words and spent more than 5 minutes with these people and he already wanted to ask the teacher if he could just do a different project on his own. Hyun could come up with some excuse as to why it was more beneficial for him. Play the stage fright and social anxiety cards. He could even fake a panic attack.

But that was dramatic. God. Why was everything so hard?

The last of their train wreck of a crew finally showed up and took the last spot at the table. This must be Dong-Hyun. Further confirmation of the fact was when Areum referred to him as Hyunnie. They were obviously friends. How wonderful. Time to third wheel even more. Hyun nodded in his direction when he greeted them. He seemed like that popular kid. He just had this air about him, and probably the face for it too. He reminded Hyun of the one kid that relentlessly called him the child of a psycho. Son of a murderer. Spawn of Satan. You know, nice things like that. The one that poured salt in his already unbearable wound. Even if he only said two words, he was already weary of Dong-Hyun.

It was suddenly time to discuss what they were going to do. Eun-Ji, the second between the chaos twins, spoke up first. His face scrunched when she said he should play grumpy. Excuse me? He hadn't even said one word to the girl and now he was grumpy. Ok, maybe he may come off that way since he was quiet, but still. Did she have to say that out loud? Then Si-Yeon spoke up and recommended Shakespeare. The one thing both of those had in common? Romance. Hyun wasn't exactly a fan of that genre. Sure Romeo and Juliet was considered a tragedy, but the main plot involved a love story. Couldn't they do something more interesting? "What if we don't do something within the romance circle? Like action, adventure, or comedy even? We could even do something classic like The Odyssey. I feel like everyone is going to want to do romance, you know?" He spoke up, pitching his idea to the rest of the group. If he was going to have to be in this, it would be a bit more bearable if the lovey dovey crap was kept out of their plot. Yet, he was almost certain his idea would be vetoed.

“It was like you brought

Wow, Areum and Eun-ji sure were peppy first thing in the morning. Sometimes he wondered if it was even possible for those two to be tired. "Sorry to keep you guys waiting." He said, his smile finally reaching his eyes in response to their enthusiastic greetings. He didn't doubt that there were people who found their noisiness annoying, but for him it made him feel at ease. It was a familiar, comfortable noise. Of course, there were quieter people at the table too. Hyun-woo had given him a nod of greeting, Min-joon had simply raised his head to look at him, and Si-yeon seemed to have flat-out ignored him.

As he took his pencil-case out of his bag, he noticed that Eun-ji was typing away on her phone. Had she seen his message? He'd sent it on a whim, but maybe he should have thought it through more. What if she thought it was stupid? He wished he could look into her brain to see how she felt, what she liked in a guy, what kinds of things made her heart flutter. How did people do romance in real life? His only examples were the romance manga stacked up on his bookshelf. If he was going to imitate the guys in manga, he'd have to be... meaner. And more distant. There was no way he could do that though — the guilt of hurting her feelings would kill him before anything could even happen. Was he just cursed to be the second lead for the rest of his life?

At that moment, he felt his phone vibrate in his pocket. Ah, it was a secret admirer. He'd been ignoring most of the messages, but considering that Eun-ji had stopped typing at the exact moment he got the notification, he had a hunch about who'd sent this one. "You are the best art buddy and friend I could have asked for! Smile a lot today!" Yup, it was definitely her. He covered his mouth with his hand, unable to suppress his chuckle. She was so obvious... but it was pretty cute.

Hold on a minute. He read over the message again. "You are the best art buddy and friend I could have asked for!"

"You are the best art buddy and friend."

"art buddy and friend."

"friend."

Friend, huh. Yeah... if he wanted her to like him back in this lifetime, he'd have to put in a whole lot of work.

He was snapped out of his thoughts when Eun-ji suddenly stood up, proclaiming she had the perfect idea. "I- I don't think I'm really suited to being a prince." He stuttered out in response. Was that really how she saw him? Well, it made him kind of happy, but he could also feel his ears heating up. He was pretty sure they were bright red right now. Oh, thank god, Si-yeon was suggesting something else. Dong-hyun liked Shakespeare, but since they were already plays in the first place, he felt like there wasn't much for them to adapt.

Areum took out a notebook and started making a list, asking for other ideas. Hyun-woo proposed they do something that wasn't romance, or a classic like The Odyssey. Wasn't that one of those epic poems? Was that the kind of stuff he read? Suddenly Dong-hyun felt a little bit ashamed of the pile of manga in his room. But it was true that everyone would want to do a romance. "That's a good point. And I don't think we'll have much time, so maybe we should do something on the shorter side. Maybe we could do one of the Sherlock Holmes short stories? Then there would be a fun mystery to keep the audience engaged." He suggested.

Was that everyone? Oh, Min-joon hadn't said anything yet. Was it because he didn't have any ideas or because he was shy? He couldn't tell. He considered asking him outright, but he didn't want to put the poor kid on the spot. And at this rate, it seemed like it would be hard to come to an agreement. Everyone's ideas were so different. "How about we all write down our ideas and pick one at random?" At least it would be fair that way.

There felt like there was so much going around him that he could barely keep up with the conversation. Eunji piping up about Snow White and him playing… Sleepy? Or something? But then someone mentioning Romeo and Juliet or A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Then Hyun-Woo mentioning about The Odyssey. Dang, he couldn’t think straight with all these suggestions coming at once. Sure, they were all great suggestions. But also they were plays which had been worn to death.

No doubt there was already going to be someone else picking something to do with Shakespeare. Not to mention that there will most likely someone doing some sort of Greek mythology type of play like Oedipus or something like that. It was… well, safe. They were safe options. Safe options weren’t going to get you amazing grades. And that’s what Minjoon strived for; amazing grades. Anything under amazing, and he would start to doubt himself completely. So, he knew that he had to get his opinions out there. Otherwise, he could at least say he tried to help out, right?

He noticed that Areum had taken her notebook out and was beginning to write down notes. Well, that was one way to stop making things so chaotic. And thank God Dong-Hyun had the balls to take charge and be the leader of this situation. He envied him for that. He gazed at the boy in slight awe as he told them his suggestion, to which Min-Joon slowly nodded. He brought his gaze back to Areum who was writing down the list. He could feel his heart thundering in his chest. He should tell her the suggestions, right? She was the one writing them all down, after all. He took a deep inhale and gulped before allowing himself to actually grow some balls and speak. “K-… Kang… A-a… A-Areum.” he finally managed to politely get out in his weak, timid voice. But, dear lord, there was no way he was going to be able to look at her. Instantly, his eyes darted to the piece of paper which she was writing on.

T-the… um… The Seagull” he slowly began with his soft voice, his eyes not daring to look up to the girl before him. “It’s by… Anton Chekhov from 1895. Considered to be one of the uh… greatest events in the history of Russian theatre... In fact, they consider it to be a foundational, ground-breaking play. It dramatizes the romantic and artistic conflicts of these different characters in the play

What was this? Was this… confidence? Well, literature had always been something he had been fond of. The Arts were one hundred per cent his forte. So, of course, he was in a zone where the confidence was starting to come out. His voice, which had originally started softly and mimicking a mouse was growing steadily and gaining volume with each passing sentence. It was an absolute miracle that words were even coming from his mouth at this point, considering who he was talking to.

Or The Caucasian Chalk Circle by Bertolt Brecht. It premiered in 1948 and it’s another masterpiece. It’s about a parable of a peasant girl who rescues a baby and becomes a better mother than it’s wealth…y… natural… parents.” his eyes thought it had the confidence to move from the table between them and up to Areum’s face as he spoke. As soon as he saw that bright face before him, he was a goner. He felt like his tongue doubled in sized, his mouth went dry and his face went aflame. Oh, dear Lord. He wanted to hide in a deep hole. “J-j… just… a uh… some… su… suggestions?

Areum watched around the table as more suggestions came about for the various others in the group. Hyun-Woo was next, saying that he didn't want to do romance. Wasn't this the romantic part of the year? Shouldn't everyone be interested in romance in some form? Ah, well, I guess that was just her. Areum was a lover of love. Though she her self expect, or want, romance at this current stage in her life, she loved when other people did. Or even if it was fiction. Hyun-Woo must not be too interested in love. She wondered to herself if he had ever had a girlfriend in his past school. It wasn't any of her business, but he sure was handsome enough for it. The quiet, hard to get types were normally a girl's dream in movies and dramas.

Ok, this is an unnecessary tangent that was distracting her from her job and making her zone out while Dong-Hyun started talking. She quickly wrote down The Odyssey since Hyun-Woo had given that suggestion a few seconds ago and she had yet to scribble it down while she was lost in her daydream. Had she been staring? OOPS. Hopefully it wasn't noticeable. Her attention finally settled on Dong-Hyun as he was finishing his thought. She caught the mention of Sherlock Holmes and that definitely peaked her interest. "Good thinking Dong-Hyun. Way to use that noodle," She commented with a laugh.

Then suddenly there was a voice. It was soft, with a bit of a stutter, but it was coming from across from her. Areum turned her head to face the person who was speaking. Shocking, truly, that it was Min-Joon. Had he ever directly spoken to her before??? OMG PROGRESS! "Yeess Min-Joon ssi??" She answered in a chipper tone. She listened attentively as he spoke, watching him with a gentle smile and an attentive gaze. She blinked a few times after he started explaining his ideas of what they should do. He was obviously someone interested in literature. Oooo, remember that Areum, he likes books. Best way to make friends was through gifts and talking about interests.

Suddenly Min-Joon looked up from the table, which he had been staring at while speaking. He seemed to get a bit flustered. Aww, poor boy was so shy. Though to be completely honest, the defeated look on his face was kind of adorable. In a platonic type of way, of course. "Cute," She gushed quietly. Though it wasn't meant to be said, it was out there. Not very loudly, but definitely loud enough to be heard if you were paying any attention. Oh well. "Thank you for your suggestions," Areum told the boy who she assumed was finished, "And no need to be so formal, we're all friends here."

Dong-Hyun had suggested that the pick at random. Good idea. If they sat here and debated they'd probably never decide, everyone at the table had such vastly different ideas. Areum finished writing out the last few that Min-Joon had added to the paper. She then tore it out of her notebook and began to tear every play idea into strips before folding them up. The were small enough to all fit in her hand, since she had folded them that way. That way she could take them, shake them up, and roll them out onto the table like dice. She looked around the table, seeing if anyone would object before grabbing one of the answers at random.

Carefully she unfolded the piece of paper with anticipation. Oh, this was exciting. A little thrilling if she did say so herself. Mundane, perhaps, but she enjoyed even the smallest excitements in life. Areum finally read over the words of the chosen play, her eyes lighting up in delight. This was going to be so much fun! "It's Snow White!" She exclaimed, showing the strip of paper to the rest of the group to prove that she was telling the truth. After her initial enthusiasm wore off, it was time to get to work. "Soooooooo, roles....Eun-Ji made some good suggestions, but I think it will be more fun to decide ourselves."

Eunji really thought that everyone would get excited with her idea for the play, she just believed it was an amazing concept, but it seemed not everyone agreed and she could see it on their faces and how they started saying other options even Donghyun said he wasn't suited to be a prince, Eunji pouted at everyone's words why they didn't agree with her. If Donghyun didn't want to be the prince then Hyunwoo could be the prince, he was really cute and he looked more like a prince than a dwarf, even though she still believed he would be awesome as grumpy. She was sure that if her secret admirer was in their group he would have agreed on her idea and would have wanted to be the prince while she was Snowhite, just the thought of them sharing a kiss of true love made her heart beating fast, was her cheeks starting to get red? She hoped not, she wouldn't know how to explain why her face was so red.

Her inner fantasy was interrupted when a stuttering voice was heard, Eunji knew it was Minjoon mostly because she had heard the boy's voice sometimes while they worked, she was surprised at the number of words he said, she was sure he had already used all the words available for all the week if not of all the month, it was kind of shocking to see the guy say so many words, Eunji gave a thumbs up to Minjoon being happy that he was able to say something, talking to someone wasn't that bad and maybe Minjoon would realize that and he would be able to have more friends.

When Donghyun suggested that they should pick random the play they would make Eunji think that was the fairest thing to do, she saw as Areum tear all of the options from her notebook and folded and started to shake them up, Eunji closed her eyes and crossed her fingers hoping that it would be Snow White, she just wanted to be a princess even if it was on a play "Please let it be Snowhite, please, I just want to do something cute." She thought to herself.

It almost felt as if Areum took ages to choose the play they would make or maybe she was just being too desperate. "It's Snow White! her best friend said out loud as she showed the name of the paper to everyone "Yes! We are going to have so much fun doing it! Donghyun my idea got chosen! Aren't you happy? I always have good ideas don't you think" She said as she shook aggressively the arm of the guy.

Eunji was sure she was going to play Snow White she was sure she wanted that role more than anyone, but Areum said they should pick their roles themselves despite the great casting that Eunji made "Maybe we could all write which role we want and if there's more than one person that wants the same role we could hold like an audition and everyone could vote. What do you think?"

Siyeon could feel the stare of someone that's when realized it was the guy sitting next to her. Who did he think he was to eyeing her like that? He was the one that came with the coffee and mess up with Si-Yeon's mood for making her remember she hadn't had breakfast. If he wanted to have this staring game, then she would look at him the same way.

When Eunji mentioned that Hyunwoo should be grumpy on the lay, Siyeon covered her mouth to hide her small laugh, it really fitted him, she didn't agree at all with half of the stuff that came out of Eunji's mouth but that was spot on, and Eunji said what she had been thinking all this time, but still, she was annoyed that she was placed, like the Queen.

It didn't take long until the rest of the group started suggesting more options, she wouldn't lie, she was surprised when she heard Minjoon talking, she wasn't close to the guy, well, she wasn't close to anyone if she could she would avoid all of them like the plague, but while she was sure that she was a person of a few words, Minjoon was one of none.

Listening to the guy talk for the first time did that meant as a premonition to the end of the world? Should she be saying goodbye to her loved ones? Well, she wasn't sure she didn't want to say goodbye to her parents if she could she would have already left without saying goodbye, but when she didn't have anyone else next to her it just made things more complicated and made her feel more lonely than she already was.

Si Yeon noticed how Eunji was looking at Hyunwoo with heart eyes, was she already picturing him as the prince since Donghyun mentioned he wasn't fitted to be the prince, or was she already crushing on the guy? If the second one was what was really happening inside the mind of the girl, she wondered if Eunji was on her right mind? She took a glance at the guy next to her, sure he was kind of cute but, he wasn't her type, not at all, and even less when he just made her even hungrier than she already was she wouldn't forgive him for that.

When Donghyun suggested they should pick their play randomly, Siyeon didn't complain at least someone was trying to set on a decision instead of adding more options that would just end of them not knowing what to do and she didn't have the energy to give her reasons or listen to the others and why they should do that play. She was glad that Areum took the initiative of writing the names of everyone suggestions, it didn't take long until their played was chosen since Areum announced they would be doing Snow White, as it was expected Eunji couldn't hide her happiness as she almost tore apart Donghyun's arm due to her excitement.

Both girls mention that they should choose the cast themselves instead of going with Eunji's plan, Siyeon wasn't sure if it was the best idea just to write the roles they wanted but she wouldn't say anything, she opened her backpack to get a piece of paper and a pen, she wondered to herself what role she wanted would she just go for the lead role? Trying to lie to herself that she for once she could have a happy ending, even though she knew that Eunji wanted the same role?

Maybe the girl wouldn't mind having someone going for the same role, knowing Eunji she was sure the girl would pout and five seconds later she would think they could become friends because they liked the same character, she started writing Snow White on the piece of paper when she started regretting her decision, she was just embarrassing herself by trying to believe she could be the main role in something, she wasn't supposed to be the protagonist, she wasn't even worth it of her being a secondary role, she was destined to be an extra that would get lost and you won't even notice that she was there.

Siyeon took the piece of paper and make it a paper ball, "I don't have a preference, I'll just take the role no one wants" she said with a shrug, she needed to stick to where she belonged and continue being the shadow in everyone's life, the one that was there to see from afar how the rest took the spotlight while she just got lost trying to pretend that she could be like them.

Hey weirdo. You're kinda funny....

OK, yeah, this Si-yeon girl was getting on his nerves. It's like she was angry at him when she was the one that started this glaring match. Hyun rolled his eyes and turned his attention to the group, electing to ignore miss attitude in the corner. Did she know it was rude to stare? Geez, the nerve of some people. He was already prepared to drop out of high school and just become a homeless person at this point. It wasn't worth the hassle. 'Wow Hyun, when did you get so dramatic?' He asked himself. He never used to care this much about what other people were thinking inside their heads, it wasn't his problem. But now, well, Hyun tended to be a bit paranoid.

Once his attention was back on the rest of the group he felt like he was being stared at again. That was when he caught the gaze of Eun-ji who looked caught up in some sort of day dream. Seriously people? Could someone at this table keep their eyeballs to themselves?! He felt like he was at a zoo, a caged animal to be stared and pointed at. He didn't like that at all. Though, it didn't seem like Eun-ji was laughing at him, she just seemed...lost in thought perhaps? About what? Whatever it was she seemed happy about it. Hyun gave her a small smile while he was trying to decided what to do. Should he like...snap his fingers? Wave his hand to get her attention? He finally did neither of those things and just awkwardly took another drink of his coffee and moving his attention to the table instead of the girl with her head in the clouds.

Min-joon, or clutzy idiot, spoke up for the first time since he sat down. The kid started rambling on about some books or plays he had never heard before. Sure, Hyun enjoyed reading, but even he mentally started calling him a nerd. Was that part in spite due to his grudge? Possibly. Ok, yes, yes it was. Just his presence was irking Hyun. Maybe he really was grumpy....no that couldn't be it. Everyone else was just annoying.

Then it was decided that it would be picked at random what play they were going to do. The likelihood of it being his choice was 1/7. Those weren't great odds. And of the other six, three were romance, two were obscure nerd plays, and....ok, he was fine with Dong-hyun's suggestion of Sherlock Holmes. That play would be pretty dope. The prom king was beginning to redeem himself from Hyun's original judgements. He was just hoping it wasn't..."It's Snow White!" Areum's voice cut through his inner monologue. That was the only one he really did not want. Karama, that hag, she must really hate him huh?

Now he had to pick a role? As long as it wasn't a main part he was ok. Hyun didn't want to be center stage with the whole crowd staring at him. Just thinking about it made his palms get sweaty. He wasn't scared. Well, actually, maybe he was. Whatever he did, he just didn't want the attention. He could be tree one or villager or something like that. Miss attitude spoke up with a similar idea as him. He was sure the main parts would be taken by someone like Dong-Hyun. "Yeah, I don't care either. Just give me a part and I'll do it," He added after Si-Yeon finished speaking. Let's see what Lady Fate had in mind for him for this. Based on today's track record....yeah it didn't look good.

Dong-hyun's gaze shifted to look at Min-joon, who had begun to speak, eyes glued to the table. He'd never even heard of either of the plays the boy mentioned, but they sounded interesting enough, if a bit complicated. Maybe he was just really into niche literature? But maybe those plays would be too difficult for a team of high schoolers to pull off — it wasn't like any of them were particularly good actors, unless someone suddenly revealed themselves to be a prodigy. When he noticed Min-joon beginning to stutter, Dong-hyun glanced several times between a scarlet-faced Min-joon and an oblivious Areum. He couldn't be the only one seeing this, right? It seemed like his friend had herself a secret admirer.

Now that everyone had given their suggestions, Areum tossed the strips of paper containing their ideas, each of them falling at random around the table. Even if he wanted to, he couldn't tell which paper had which play. While Areum picked out an idea, he noticed Eun-ji sitting with her eyes closed and fingers crossed. As much as he wanted his idea to be chosen, seeing her excitement was winning him over.

"It's Snow White!" Areum exclaimed, the paper held out in front of her as proof. He was glad Eun-ji's idea got pi-Oh my god she's so close. Dong-hyun's mind went blank when the girl grabbed him by the arm. "Y-yup! I'm sure it'll be, um, lots of fun." He fumbled for words, frozen stiff. If she held on any longer he thought he might pass out. Even after knowing her for this long, he still couldn't get used to her spontaneous displays of affection. He was pretty sure her antics cost him a couple years off his lifespan.

When Eun-ji let go of him and suggested they write down which role they want, Dong-hyun nodded dazedly, still stuck in a trance. Si-yeon said she didn't mind what part she got, and Hyun-woo chimed in with his agreement soon after. "Are you guys sure? There's plenty of parts to go around." He said. "Snow White, the Prince, the Queen, the huntsman, and the seven dwarves... so we'll all have to play multiple characters, probably." He himself didn't mind which character he got, but Eun-ji had suggested he play the prince. If, by chance, he did — and, by chance, Eun-ji played Snow White — did that mean he would... kiss... her...? No, no, he was not about to pick a role based on a kiss scene. That would be creepy. Eun-ji wasn't necessarily going to be Snow White anyways, and the idea of kissing Areum or Si-yeon was downright horrifying. "Then I guess us four," He said, gesturing to himself, Areum, Eun-ji, and Min-joon, "can pick our roles, and then we can split the rest among everyone."

Tearing a page out of his notebook, he took a moment to re-think who he wanted to play. He had already more or less ruled out the Prince — if he was going to kiss someone, he wanted it to be authentic. And he wasn't going to be Snow White or the Queen for obvious reasons. He put pen to paper, neatly writing 'Dong-hyun - the huntsman.' He folded the page in half and placed it in the middle of the table. He hoped this would be the end of the decision-making for now. His brain was fried at this point and he was ready to just get to work on actually adapting the play.

Cute

Oh dear Lord. He felt like he was going to vomit. Did she really just say that? Min-Joon’s face felt so hot to the point that it was going to melt off his face and the whole table was going to be faced with his skeletal structure remains. How could she just say that so casually? He wasn’t cute. Wait, was he? His Eomma said he was cute. And his brothers would also say he was cute, but then would ruffle his hair and mean it in a ‘you’re such an idiot’ type of cute. Wait a second – did Areum think he was an idiot? Did he speak way too much? Did he bring too much unnecessary information or too many questionable options to the table? He could feel the acid in the back of his throat beginning to rise.

It really didn’t help as she told him not to be so formal with her and that they were… they were… friends.

F. R. I. E. N. D. S.

Was it odd for him to think that this was the very first time he had someone to call on as a friend? Growing up, he had always looked to his brothers for guidance and to play with. Because of his high levels of emotions, the children in the neighbourhood either didn’t want to play with him or were bullying him. Either way, he would always end up crying and spending time in his room, practising his guitar instead. So, when Areum said that they were all friends here… did she really mean it? Or was she only saying it to be nice? His eyes quickly glanced around the table to see the faces of the other students before him. Some of them had smiles, some of them were excited, and some of them here looked like they wanted to cut his body up into small pieces and give them to Sweeny Todd to make pies with Mrs Lovett.

Away in his own thoughts, Min-Joon had been paying barely any attention to the fact that the play had been selected. It was only when he heard Eun-Ji’s excited squawking that he came back down to Earth to realise just what the heck had been happening. Oh. So, they were doing Snow White? Didn’t that have some sort of kiss in it? The thought of it made him shiver, with his mind urging him to think of other roles he could consider. After all, to someone who was yet to have his first kiss, kissing just seemed like something so… weird. Like, putting your lips against someone else’s lips and apparently it’s meant to feel good. What – are you surprised that he was yet to have his first kiss? The poor boy was barely able to string a couple of words together to make a sentence, let alone attempt to capture someone’s lips with his own.

As the others began to declare that they’d take any role, he felt tense just a little bit more. He didn’t want to be a pain and announce that he didn’t care which role he did. I mean, he did care. He didn’t want the role that would make you kiss someone. But he also didn’t want a role that had a lot of lines. Someone had mentioned Sleepy, saying he could play them. But wait a moment. Inspiration struck. Just as the others began to do, Min-Joon tore a piece of paper from his notebook and scribbled down the character he was dreaming of playing in this play. After all, the role of ‘tree’ probably wasn’t available was it? Once he had written it down as fast as he could, he folded the small piece of paper and placed it next to Donghyun’s.
