Character Creation Questions
This is a list of questions I've been asked in regards to character creation. This list is constantly updated as more questions are asked over time.
Q: Are the characters all human or can they be a different race?
A: The characters are all human. However, without spoiling too much, it is possible for your character to become something inhuman during the rp.

Q: What kinds of magic are allowed?
A: Any kind of magic is allowed so long as you're not overlapping with another character and so long as you can come up with enough spells to fit the theme. There are a few magic ideas I have reserved for rp purposes which will be listed in the next tab.

Q: Can we add lore through our character's background?
A: Absolutely! If you can put enough detail into your background to add some compelling lore I'll be more than happy to accept it. Just be warned though, I will be picky about lore additions so it's not a guarantee your lore addition will be accepted.

Title: The Sharpshooter
Nickname: Some people call him Wintersun instead of Avar, but he doesn’t really care what you pick. But call him “Winty” at your own risk.

Physical Description: Tall and built like a warrior, Avar cuts an intimidating figure. It doesn’t help that he never smiles, not if he can help it. As a freelancer, he’s traveled across the lands and picked up an eclectic style of dress because of it. His standard fur-lined cloak is from the north, his loose shirt is eastern, his scarf southern, and so on. His skin is a warm brown, and he has a messy shock of white hair that he doesn’t do anything with. Avar has a thin gold marking across his face that he won’t talk about. People tend to think he’s older than he is.

Skills/Talents:
  • Polyglot: Avar is great with languages. He picks them up quickly, deciphers them well, and has a mild enthusiasm for literature and the like. His frequent travels have made it necessary.

  • Wilderness explorer: He prefers nature over people, though. He’s spent weeks at a time in the forest and is experienced with identifying plants, hunting animals, and plotting courses. (Avar’s cooking is acceptable; it might not be flavorful, but it will be perfectly cooked.)

  • Scout: Avar travels through the underbrush like a ghost and can climb a tree in record time. He’s great as a scout.

  • Storyteller: Surprisingly, if you stick him in front of a campfire and hand him a drink (or several), he will regale you with legends and stories from his homeland. Avar has a deep, resonant voice and an eye for dramatic tension. But, for obvious reasons, this skill doesn’t come out often.

  • Whittler: With his carving knife and a stick, Avar can make a variety of wooden objects.
Weapon of Choice: Bow and arrow, though he’s decent with a short spear and adequate with a sword. He’d really, really prefer not to fight up close, though.
Magical Arts:

  • Frost touch: He can lower the temperature of objects to the point that it freezes over. Great for beer and crossing rivers.

  • Flame touch: He can also heat the temperature of objects; his tea always stays hot. Of course, Avar can take it one step further and cause what he touches to burst into flames.

  • Ice shot: Avar can conduct the magic through his arrows, greatly increasing the range. When pierced by an Ice Shot, the person better take out the arrow quick, or they’ll get frostbite and lose a limb.

  • Flame shot: Your classic flaming arrow, except made exceptionally flammable by the addition of magic. Someone struck by this better stop, drop, and roll.

  • Scatter shot: Avar’s favorite trick. He superheats the arrow so that just before it hits, it shatters into incredibly hot shrapnel. Great for taking care of groups of enemies.

  • Ring of Fire and Ice: Without a weapon or a bow, he still has a decent range. Avar can affect the temperature of objects within 10 feet of him without touching them. Great for lighting campfires and torches from a distance. It’s much harder to use this on people, though; that requires touch or a weapon.

Background: Good luck getting him to talk about it. Avar is an intensely private person, even though he insists his story isn’t that special. He was born far up north, where his father worked as a woodcutter. Avar grew up with a horde of siblings. Because of this, Avar was… encouraged to leave quickly and make his own way at the age of sixteen. That he did, travelling across the lands, picking up languages and skills. Avar mostly worked as a ranger of sorts: hunting game, picking herbs, and selling them to the nearest town. His skills with the bow meant that he started getting hired more as a mercenary instead of a hunter, which he didn’t mind so much. Well, Avar accidentally got drafted into a war once, but it’s fine. Avar got out as soon as he could. He met a few mages from the Iron Wolf Guild during this, though. Nice people, if a little intense.

Avar continued in this methodical fashion for several years, sending money back to his family, reading letters from his siblings and keeping up-to-date on their lives. When he turned twenty-three, though, he made a startling discovery. Turns out Avar had magic. During one of his mercenary runs, his group was being overrun by bandits. He prayed for a miracle and accidentally made one of his own. His arrows suddenly exploded, giving his group enough time to regroup and regather.

Apparently a mage, Avar now had a few more opportunities. He continued to work as a freelancer, but he also started refining his magical skills. In the last year or so, Avar has started being comfortable enough to advertise himself as a mage, though he’s completely self-taught. He decided that it was time to take the next step and maybe get some training. Avar came to town to meet with the Iron Wolf Guild, the nice mages he met that one time. He’s not sure if he wants to join them, but he’s definitely interested in properly learning magic.

Then, Avar heard about this interesting new expedition. It has the chance for good pay, and he might get to meet more mages. As far as he’s concerned, it’s a win-win.

    Physical Description: Kiana has a small and lithe frame, allowing her to dodge and weave around enemy attacks as well as squeeze into smaller spaces. Her long robes and baggy clothing make it easy for her to move and are more breathable. She has her left arm wrapped up in bandages at all times, though it is unknown as to why. She simply had it wrapped after an expedition and has kept it so since. Although her hair covers one eye, she has no issues seeing and this look makes her popular among many of her guild members and the public.

    Skills/Talents
    Researcher
    - Kiana is curious at heart and as such has become an excellent researcher in the fields that pique her interest. She has an easier time discovering ancient relics and deciphering old or unknown scripts. In fact, this is how she learned shadow magic.

    Night Owl - Kiana gets absorbed in her work often times staying up well into the night. She doesn't grow tired until much later in the night and can get much more accomplished.

    Quick Thinker - Delving into old ruins and forgotten places often hold danger just as old and forgotten. You've got to be quick to react to dangers and Kiana has learned just that.

    Field Medic - Although she's not a true medic, she knows enough of the trade to treat simple wounds and to slow down more severe injuries. You should probably still see a trained medic however.

    Spells

    Magical Arts
    • Shadow Mimic - Conjuring up shadows, Kiana makes an identical copy of herself. This copy cannot interact with anything physically, however it will cast the same spell as Kiana so long as it has not been destoryed. These spells are weaker than the original casting from Kiana herself. In addition Kiana can use this mimic in tandem with her Shifting Shadows spell by swapping places with her mimic.
    • Hate Spikes - Using her own shadow as an origin point, Kiana sends waves of shadowy spikes from the ground to rapidly strike targets in front of her. The spikes continue even if they hit a target until they've reached a max distance of 10m away from her.
    • Shifting Shadows - This spell requires Kiana to have a Shadow Mimic to be currently active in order to cast it. When using this spell Kiana trades places with her mimic almost instantly. By doing this she can avoid dangerous situations or sneakily approach enemies that would otherwise detect her.
    • Puppet Master - Using her own shadow as an origin point, Kiana reaches forth and grabs the shadow of an enemy. Upon grasping their shadow, she can control them like a puppet doing whatever she commands them. However, this spell renders Kiana immobile and unable to cast any of her other spells. In addition she cannot force her enemy to cast their own spells, assuming they can cast spells. If there is no light to cast shadows, this spell is useless.
    • One With Darkness - Focusing the magic within her body, Kiana can melt into the darkness around her. She is unable to do anything within this state until she returns to a physical form. While she is in the shadows she is undetectable and can move anywhere the shadows touch, resurfacing at any of these points.
    • Dark Visions - Using one of her Shadow Bolts Kiana can afflict an enemy with blindness. This blindness is not normal however, as the afflicted will see the world differently. It will seem to them as if they were in a nightmare in which their friends are now foes. Stronger willed enemies can see through this spell craft however and will break free from it. Those who do not attack their allies.
    • Shadow Bolts - Kiana conjures upwards of 12 projectiles that originate from her shadow. These projectiles fly outward from her position and towards up to three targets of her choice. Targets hit by these shadow bolts can subsequently be afflicted by her Dark Binding spell. The more of the individual projectiles that hit a single target, the longer the binding will last, maxing at around four seconds.
    • Dark Binding - Kiana focuses a large projectile in front of her, sending it forth after a few moments. If an enemy is struck with this projectile they are immediately immobilized for six seconds. This projectile is slow moving and easy to dodge if noticed in time.
    • Curse of Shadow - To be revealed.
    • Maiden of the Shadow - To be revealed.
    History
    Ever since she was young Kiana had been facinated with stories from the past. Hearing the legends of the world and the rumors of power long since lost excited her. As she grew older her fascination with these tales became obsession. She sought to discover the truth behind the legends and uncover lost knowledge. Together with her brother she trained to become a mage and go on adventures in search of the history she so longed to uncover. When they had become full fledged mages Kiana had discovered an old temple secluded in the mountains near their home. Together Kiana and Kail explored its depths. Although they didn't find any real threats, Kiana had found something that piqued her interest. Old scripts that took her some time to translate. Ignoring the warning the scripts spoke of, she delved further into the temple and found a curious scroll. Upon first glance it was completely illegible, she had never seen characters like the ones upon the page. However, after some time staring at the paper it all became clear.

    Immediately, as if clearly understanding the forgotten scroll was a trigger, immense magical energy consumed her. The overload of magic sent her body into pain so great that she should have passed out. She screamed, wishing for the pain to end and when it ceased she knew she had done something she couldn't undo. The scroll was legible now, as if she had always known the language written upon it. At first she couldn't tell what was wrong. She hadn't been maimed, nothing came out to attack her, and she could still sense the magic flowing within her. She looked herself over and immediately noticed along the entirety of her left arm were black tattoos of rune marks. Although she couldn't quite decipher their exact meanings, she knew it had to do with whatever just happened to her. She attempted to conjure up a fire to light up more of the area with no avail. Perplexed she tried again and again she failed. She had trained in the art of fire magic, yet she couldn't cast the most basic of fire spells. She focused upon the magic flowing in her and realized it wasn't the same flow she had before. Whether her newfound power was a dangerous blessing or a curse yet to be realized was a mystery, but there was nothing more she could do about it now.

Medicine: When she was young, she was taught how to use the different medicines owned by the medics of the Moon Rose guild. Her parents wanted her to follow in their footsteps and the way they saw this happening was by having one of the medics teach her the basics, whilst they taught her everything else she needed to know. She learned how to help wounded friends and family members, but she was also taught that saving someone won’t always happen, which is why she has devoted the last eight years of her life learning the skills she needs to be able to save everyone.
Weapon of Choice: A small Silver dagger.

Background:
Minerva was born to Joseph and Lilian Smith, two of the Moon Rose guilds best medics. From a very young age she was taught the skills she needed to be able to survive if her parents were to get killed. She was always a good listener, learning a lot of things from everyone in the guild, but she never actually talked to anyone other than her mentor, but that was also very rare. She didn’t really take her job as a medic seriously until she witnessed someone die, by her hands no less. This changed her, for the worst. She somewhat forgot what it meant to be a part of a guild, and even ran away once. Though her father found her, he knew she was changed forever. He also knew that he and his wife needed to help her get better and they knew that she would need a break from her lessons. She stopped training for about a year, gaining back the emotions that were shattered, before returning to her training. She helped her mentor, though never really did anything important. Her parents were proud of her, because she had already gone through so much, and little did she know, she was about to go through a lot more. About two years later, her parents were killed and her peace was once again shattered. She slowly grew depressed, but she never actually stopped doing what she loved. Since then, she has continued to help her friends and family.
