The Swiftest Shot In The West
Act 1 - Team 13 Assemble!
1653005122156.png
After years of training in the academy genin of the graduating class would finally meet with their new teams today. It was an exciting time, the first step anyone really took into the ninja way and it was all happening today. Genin from all over the village would discover today who would be joining them in a team for the foreseeable future, who would be training them and most importantly finally have their headbands presented to them. How exciting!

Team 13 would be no exception and today they would all be meeting for the first time at noon in the third training field. With the sun high in the sky and a gentle breeze filling the air, summer would unfortunately not be a time of vacation for those involved but instead, it would mark the beginning of a long journey up the proverbial mountain that was the life of a ninja.

Standing by the lakefront Clair Uzakami was deep in thought. None of her students had arrived yet but she had been prepared the day before as to whom they would be and truth be told, she was none too impressed. From her briefing, Clair understood that two of the three would be left under her direct supervision and that the third, although possessing enough skill to catch the Anbu's attention, prefered to hide behind a facade. Granted she was much the same back in her own time but she was now starting to see why exactly her own team leader was irritated by such a thing in hindsight. This was not going to be an easy team to train and it most certainly was not going to be a situation she could draw from a manual for help.

With a soft sigh, Clair scratched the back of her head and turned to face the students with a subtle smile as they finally arrived "Yo...". letting her greeting hang in the air far longer than was needed Clair continued as if having never started "So, you three are to form team 13 then. You're a lot shorter than I had imagined... Can you guys even use kunai? Are they not too heavy? What about shuriken? Sealing tags? surely you can use them all right?" Blinking a few times Clair moved a hand to her hip and took a deep breath to settle herself "Sorry, of course, you can. How about we introduce ourselves. I think Minato said that was a good place to start... I'll begin, my name is Clair Uzakami, as you can guess I'm from the Uzakami clan and I'm no one of any importance but a Jonin nonetheless, a pleasure to meet you all."

Rinka had arrived at the third training ground. For the first time in what seemed like forever she was actually on time. Given that she woke up at the crack of dawn, just to get ready for today. It was her final test to see if she was truly worthy of being a ninja of the leaf village.

Her focus was on the presence of the jonin ahead of her who was staring out at the pond. This lady was likely her new team leader. She had to make sure to leave a good impression on her newest teacher.

The Jonin introduced herself as Clair Uzumaki. Upon the introduction she felt herself take a small step back and bow her head keeping her eyes on the Jonin. "I-It's a pleasure to meet you Clair-sensei... I'm R-Rinka Miyuki. I'm looking forward to your instruction." Her voice got caught a bit during the introduction but after it flowed much more naturally.
Naruto Oc_ Mizuki Namida by unicornchen on DeviantArt.png

After her short introduction she lifted her head and got quiet so the other two could make their introductions should they want to. She had been hearing whispers ever since her graduation that the Jonin have been especially hard on new genin as of late. So hard that some of the genin that graduated last year were failed and had to repeat their academy training over again. Rinka definitely didn't want to do that. Not after making her parents so proud of her.

Gensou212.png

Rising with the sun Gensou had greeted the day much like any other, the oncoming journey and meeting not did seem to shake them from their routine nor pierce the typical stoic mask across her features. The only real difference outwardly was the choices of garments and items she had taken with her, clasping a polished ring of metal around her collar before wrapping the thick mesh-lined scarf around her neck in slow practised motions while staring blankly towards the mirror to apply a thin blue line over her eye as the scent of peppermint fills the air. It seemed almost as if she was listening for a moment before with a final movement she smoothed down the rest of her attire and stood up, her hand absently running a thumb across the new metal at the tip of the scarf and tracing the symbol of the village.

Inwardly she was running through a checklist, tapping each of her waist pouches in sequence, answering each question in silence with simple motions of her arm while the rest of her stood still, before turning her head to the side as if listening once more and then to a workbench within her room. A lone pestle and mortar would glitter and sparkle somewhat in the morning light with a crimson powder, and a bin of what seemed to be broken picture frames and ornaments sitting at a slight angle next to it. Moving over she would stare blankly at the object, before crouching and turning it ever so slightly to line up perpendicular with the desk before turning to leave for the day.

Her slow methodic footsteps would softly pat across the village road as she made her way towards the designated training ground, the tempo remaining constant as she stared onward without eye contact with those encountered along the way. Arriving upon the grounds finally she would place herself down sitting cross-legged before the Jounin, eyes set on them unblinking but making no motion to speak until finally addressed by the Jounin herself, a slow tilt of her head as she listened but seeming to speak at every small gap with single words "Yes, Relative, Subjective, No, Relative, Partially, Relative..." her tone soft and flat but succinct before going to silence once more for the introductions, turning her head ever so slowly to her fellow teammate.

"Autotelic Pleonasm...." pausing once more to look to her side she turns back "Gensou Shinri"

Today was finally the big day. After graduating and getting put on her team all that was left was to actually meet their leader. Which was kind of exciting in a way. But also kinda nerve wracking. She just hoped she was able to get along with everyone on her team. She wasn't sure how she'd be able to survive being on a team with people she either didn't like or didn't like her. It would make things way too awkward.

At the start of the day, Luna woke up at a decent time. Really only having enough time to clean up, change, and pack her things before having to head out if she wanted to make it in time. She's never been that much of a morning person after all. She grabbed a steamed bun from her foster mother and gave her a brief fair well before heading off towards the training field. Enjoying the nice walk to an area she has been to frequently over the years. While she wasn't sure how often she's been to the third field in particular, she just knows she's been in the general area more than enough times.

She arrived a few moments after both of her teammates. Quickly finishing up her food and taking her place beside them both as their leader gave a bit of a confusing introduction. Starting with the bombardment of questions which Luna would have answered sincerely had the woman not interrupt her train of thought when she gave her name. She listened to the other two who gave their introductions shortly after their teacher before it was finally her turn.

She glanced between the other three, as if to confirm that everyone was done talking before speaking herself. "It's nice to meet you too. I'm Luna Kusaki. I look forward to working with you all." She introduced with a small but polite nod towards the other three. Hoping the simple introduction would suffice. As she didn't know what else to say about herself.

Once everyone had finished introducing themselves Clair nodded in acknowledgement and moved her hand from her hip to a hidden pouch within her jacket, rummaging for a few seconds before removing a neatly folded note. Unfolding the note was done in one fluid motion after which she began to read aloud to herself "Step 1. Introductions, Step 2. Test capabilities ps. don't forget the bell... bell?" Pausing for a moment Clair scratched her head and gazed at the sky, her eyes going wide soon after. "Ah yes, the bells! Yeh... what's step 3?" looking back to the sheet Clair continued "Hmm lets see... step 3. you forgot the bells didn't you, that's okay just come up with a test on the fly, if the students fail cut them loose... ah! See this is why you were the team captain Min, always so prepared!" Scrunching up the note into a ball and tossing it back into the lake Clair moved both her hands to her hips and began to grin widely. Her eyes scanning each of the students before her one after the other.

"Alright! looks like it's time you guys were put through your paces! Since I haven't any bells with me I'll just make things simple and have you three take on a target. Beat them and you pass, anything less is a fail and it's back to the academy you go. Simple right?" Laughing softly to herself Clair gave the group no time to respond before continuing "Taking me on would be an unfair examination so I'll let you take on someone more fitting." Moving a hand to her mouth Clair bit down on her thumb and once she had done enough damage to draw blood she let a drop fall onto the grass aside her "Summoning Jutsu- come forth Riku and head my call!" No sooner had the second drop hit the grass when a large plume of smoke erupted from the point of contact. When the smoke cleared shortly after it revealed a young monkey around five feet tall, clad in black, wielding a pair of bananas fashioned into nunchucks.

1653082323832.png

Looking at the summoned monkey Clair offered it a soft smile and moved to place her hand upon its head, rubbing gently before returning her hand back to her side "This is Riku, like you three he is also a genin. Well, the equivalent of a genin anyway. He shall be your opponent, beat him and you pass, you have till sunset or until you are all rendered incapacitated. I will warn you though, Riku may be a genin but nin-monkeys are held to a much higher standard. Hesitate and you will be severely hurt."

Turning back to face the team Clair offered them a parting smile before vanishing from sight in a flash "Good luck, you three have the first move! Begin!"

Gensou212.png

The girl's unblinking eye moves from their Jounins former position to the new figure that had joined them, making no direct effort to move. Remaining sitting Gensou watches the monkey carefully, her visible eye running across the creature from head to toe, stopping periodically at certain sections most notably its feet, weapon, exposed eyes, ear and tail. Conscious of the presence of each teammate, she began then going through her process, categorizing what she knew of each from within the academy and combining it with her initial observations of the creature. She was informed they had the first move, hence she would not act herself until she had gathered everything about the opponent, the creature likely attempting to do the same hence her seemingly relaxed stance giving as little to go by as possible.

Retaining the dead-eyed stare, her loose sleeves would steadily raise to her mouth, leaving them just over her lips as if in a pondering motion before a whisper seemed to carry to the ears of her nearby teammates. "Intelligence, Several Acute Senses, Trained, Increased Reach, Additional prehensile limbs" Flowing from one feature to the next making them aware of what they should take account of before pulling a hand behind her back and pulling out two pale objects that appeared to be....Eggs?. Taking one in her hand, she slowly began to peel one of them absently off its shell before extending the other in an open hand towards the monkey "Do you want one?" taking a bite from the peeled one for emphasis and chewing slowly.

Rinka observed her new sensei's quirky behavior. It was a bit amusing but laughing at her new teacher is a sure fire way to end up on their ass-kicking list. Observing the continued actions of Clair and did her best to understand the new assignment. All they had to do was capture the monkey? Huh, not the first thing that would come to mind when a test was involved.

"Sundown passes is a time up and being knocked out or completely immobilized, are both fails..." Rinka took a deep breath in and then put some distance between her, her teammates, and the monkey. She made her way to the immediate left yards then headed to the water. If she was going to have a chance she had better get a hold on the area right now. 'In order to pass the three of us have to play to our strengths. I'm strongest near water due to my Kekkei Genkai.' Rinka thought skidding to a halt by the water about twenty feet from everyone else. She had to obtain home advan- 'What in the...? What it the name of the third hokage is Gensou doing?! Offering a trained ninja monkey food? There is no way that's going to work!' Shaking off her new teammates strangeness she brought her hands together forming a few hand signs keeping her eyes on the monkey. 'Ice style: freezing mist.' Ice cold mist rose from her starting to make ice form on the water's surface. The mist that was forming due to the extreme cold mixing with the hot summer weather made condensation everywhere coating the grass.

Luna watched the leader confusedly as she began reading what seemed like her notes aloud. At this point, she might have zoned out a bit as it seemed like their teacher wasn't even addressing them, but her attention soon snapped back to her when she tossed the paper away. Giving a small frown when it was put out that they would be sent back to the academy should they fail this. However, her eyes would soon light up as she watched their sensei summon a monkey to them. "Woah..." She awed while looking at the young monkey. She thought it looked really cute with the bodysuit and the banana weapon! However, hearing that Riku could hurt them badly she didn't doubt that. Ninja animals, from what she's seen, have always seemed very impressive.

With the conditions set and their sensei off to who knows where...it seemed like it was time to start? She was actually really confused. Rinka seemed to have quickly runoff, while Gensou was trying to feed the monkey an egg? Were they being aggro or not? She kept her distance from the monkey. Standing somewhere between where Gensou and Rinka were. She wasn't sure whether to attack yet but stood her ground. There was earth all around them after all. So as long as she was on the ground she should be able to use any jutsu she needs to. She gave a small glance back towards the mist that was coming but still chose to remain neutral and play a bit more passive. Opting to try and support the other two rather than trying to go right for an attack on the monkey. She didn't want to be too hasty after all. If she could prevent attacks that injured either of them too much, then she could rely on the others for doing the actual attacking. But it all really depended on how things played out. Should one of the others choose to play more of a support role then she'll try to act more aggressive.

Riku's focus was razor-sharp, flowing seamlessly between the three genin as they each moved and readied themselves for the test. Riku knew nothing of the genin or their background but to be summoned by Clair was a rare case for a genin nin-monkey and if he failed his task Enma would have his head out of embarrassment. This was as much a test for him as it was for the group before him, if he played his cards right perhaps he'd be summoned again, perhaps he'd be assigned to another Uzakami member, perhaps even made a staple summon within the clan for generations to come. This opportunity could not be wasted!

Was that an egg? For but a slight moment Riku lost his concentration, surprised by the sudden and odd actions of the genin before him. Did she think this was a game? With the girl behind him already summoning forth mist and the other watching from the side Riku launched into battle. With one fluid motion of his wrist, Riku brought his nunchuck down on Gensou's egg, smashing it to bits before striking her palm with a loud thwack. With the egg smashed its contents were quickly released into the air and almost instantly the chilli dust began to irritate Riku's nose and eyes. Leaping back the monkey put distance between himself and the devious genin before turning to hurl a kunai at Luna. The Kunai however would fail to hit its mark, flying past the girl and lodging into a tree nearby causing Riku to audibly grunt in discontent. With his eyes growing redder by the second and tears beginning to form the monkey was irritate, to say the least. Bringin ga hand to his eyes Riku rubbed them quickly before weaving together a few hand signs. Slamming his nunchuck into the ground then it became coated in sharp and jagged rock and the monkey then readied himself for a defensive battle while ensuring he kept his distance from the lake and the ninja stood there.

As her ploy began she would be aware of her teammates shouting out their own techniques but made no outward acknowledgement, her focus being on the primate before her. She was still taking note of how each action changed the environment and situation overall, the mists dampness would help aggravate the trap within her palm as well as conceal her presence once triggered for the next action depending upon the effectiveness of her first.

The primate hesitated as her action confused him, so she made sure to capitalize on that to lay a Jutsu of her own in preparation, which was fortunate for when the monkey made its first attack chaos ensued in a chain reaction. First was the attack on the offered object which burst open in a large cloud of red dust and sparkles in the air, the pungent scent of chilli filling the area.

When the nunchuck hit Gensous hand however there was an explosion of smoke, leaving dried log in her place, which then detonated to greater a shockwave of pushing the eggs cloud straight into the monkey as well as giving her the chance to conceal herself amongst the underbrush.

The black egg was a Ninja tool created initially to compromise the vision of an opponent, a powerful irritant enclosed in a delicate vessel that was to be blown at range within the face of the target. Her particular ones were filled with powdered glass and powdered ghost pepper, creating a burning within the eyes and nose that simple water could not remove...and should it also cover the hands? then rubbing the eyes would only push in the glass to cause further damage. There was however one more feature she herself had been the unfortunate victim of herself when she initially created them, and that was the glass covering the bare skin of the hands easily, which in turn caused pain and irritation when attempting hand seals. She was somewhat limited on the available tools so had to be creative, after all, poisons and toxins were restricted even if she could afford them.

All in all her current objective was to wear down the focus and concentration of her team's opponent, making the other's actions more effective, the primate more vulnerable to her own Jutsu's, and finally, a better spot to observe them from to consider her next move. Perhaps her lemon salted caltrops? The monkey bare feat did make it more susceptible to those. and it would limit his movements, the mist would also make them difficult to see, making them hesitate before taking a step or leaping to land on an unfortunate location.

She could also perhaps mimic those seals she saw earlier if she combines that with calling out a false Jutsu name, then her ventriloquism to make her target be panicked and cautious of additional non-existent threats? Hmm best to keep that in case she is discovered. But for now, it was time to wait and see.

TakeshiKagirame.png“Third training field, third training field, third training field…”

Repeating the words written on a small piece of paper he held with one hand, Takeshi ran as fast as he could toward his target location. He was late -that much he knew. But to receive instruction to head to the training field while already being late… was it really his fault? Well, no matter, he’d just need to show the paper to the sensei and they’d understand. Hopefully.

Despite making it in the top 10 of the academy, Takeshi had been worried when he wasn’t immediately selected to be in a team with other Genin but when his sensei from the academy came to the Kagirame household to give him these instructions, he understood that circumstances made his case different. Well, ‘understood’ was a complete lie as he had no idea what was going on but he’d hopefully get his answer once he arrived. On the upside, he’d finally get to meet his team!

High was his surprise when he arrived in the third training field. The boy scrunched his brows and looked at the paper once more. “... I’m in the right place… right…?” A dozen or so meters away from Takeshi were three girls his age fighting against what seemed to be a monkey -a nin-monkey, to be specific. But wait, that didn’t make any sense. Weren’t teams supposed to be made of three Genin and a Jonin? The team was obviously complete. “Um-” He pinched his lips shut. He figured it’d be a bad idea to cause a distraction during the others’ test. But there was no mistaking that he was told to come here. Perhaps it’d be better to wait for the sensei to come to him?

Nodding to himself, Takeshi glanced about until he found a suitable place to sit -a log. Nothing really went as expected but seeing a nin-monkey in action could prove to be interesting.

The mist was creeping closer to the monkey as Rinka made her way cautiously towards Riku the nin-monkey. Gensou seemed to be preparing a jutsu while Luna was seemingly waiting for an opening. Maybe she could create one for her? Then an idea dawned on the young Genin, in the their vision hindered state they will act on reflex and instinct. They could use that to their advantage. This would take a small bit of time but hopefully if it worked this test may end sooner than she thought. 'Ice style: Ice Barricade.' The wordless Jutsu began as the grass started to freeze and coat with ice and rapidly approached the monkey as the mist encroached ever closer as well. It stopped a foot away from the monkey leaving a foot wide path of ice from Rinka to the monkey's back. Then, almost instantly a 6 inch thick screen of ice jutted from the end of the ice path angled right at the nin-monkey's mid-section at a upwards diagonal.

This little plan of hers used quite a bit of Chakra, but it will likely give the openings needed for Luna to move in. 'okay... I'm running at 65% Chakra now... I should be okay for now.' Rinka thought to herself. She didn't make sure the screen that she summoned up hit the monkey before getting on the ice path herself and focusing on making the mist more dense.

When the egg exploded into a red dust cloud, Luna instinctively pulled away. Knowing very well what that stuff was. She could only wince at the poor monkey who basically just got pepper sprayed. Nevertheless, she watched as Gensou hopped away from the monkey before turning her attention towards the animal again. Not even flinching when a kunai supposedly aimed at her flew past her. Looks like their aim is already all disoriented due to the chilli powder.

She took a few more moments to take in what everyone else was doing. From the money coating their weapon with rocks to Rinka and the ice wall she made. Along with the increasing fog. It seemed like the other's weren't directly attacking yet, so it seems like it was her who needed to get a bit more agressive. She preformed a series of hand signs before crouching down to slap the ground with her hands. "Earth Style: Raining Stone Bullets." She whispered loud enough for herself to hear. And soon enough, the nearby pebbles and rubble, now coated in her chakra, would begin to rise up a bit. But still were low enough to stay hidden in the fog around them.

After watching the monkey she unleashed the stone bullets the first opening she saw. A barrage of small rocks began shooting out of the fog and towards the monkey. The ammo itself wasn't the strongest but they were still being shot quick enough to still hurt. It didn't seem like the monkey was going to approach them. Which was fine. She didn't need to move any closer to try and attack.

"Well, I suppose one is better off late over never. Wouldn't you agree Takeshi Kagirame?" Clair's appearance was sudden and accompanied not by sound or rustling but instead by the feeling of cold steel against one's neck. Having managed to take Takeshi completely off guard the jonin now held a kunai to his neck, crouched alongside him, with her arm tucked tightly around his shoulder to attain such an angle. Gazing out at the ongoing battle Clair's eyes never met Takeshi's but any attempted movement, no matter how slight only resulted in the kunai drawing closer and closer to piercing his skin, like prey in a snake's grasp. "I must say, your classmates are doing much better than I had originally anticipated." Moving her free hand to point from person to person Clair continued with a black expression but a cheerful tone "Take Rinka for example, although she unintentionally made the first move and kicked things off, she first made an effort to reposition herself in front of the lake where her ice release is most effective. It may seem simple and a pretty obvious move to make but many actually underestimate the power they can gain by doing so and I've seen many killed as a result of poor positioning. Plus the mist she generated, it may not be anything too flashy but over time it will make Riku weaker to blunt force attacks as well as provide at least a little cover for surprise attacks. I'm quite impressed."

Shifting her finger from one student to the next Clair continued "Speaking of surprise attacks, Gensou opened the battle spectacularly. Targeting Riku's enhanced senses with spices and glass shards will prove to be quite effective. Granted the effects will wear off relatively soon but even just now the effect of the chilli powder caused him to miss a kunai and take a more defensive approach. Not to mention the immediate retreat thereafter, Gensou is playing to her strengths. Strike fast when the opponent has their guard down, aim to kill or cripple, retreat and repeat. A textbook approach for dealing with a stronger opponent and perfectly executed might I add."

Nodding to herself Clair continued by moving to point at Luna, just as the genin launched her attack "Finally there's Luna. Observant. Although she didn't make any attempt to attack Riku right away she instead stayed out of his reach and observed her teammates and their actions first. Not many genin fresh from the academy value teamwork as much as they should, Luna seems to be an exception to this, she seems very in tune with the reality of the situation. This is a team exercise and although it is a chance to show off one's abilities that is not the end goal. Even now she's readying an attack under the mist Rinka created while waiting for the chilli powder to force on tears. Well, maybe not exactly that but an opening nonetheless." .

Tightening her grip on Takeshi even further, Clair pulled him in closer to her side, bringing her head aside his firmly to guide his vision to where she herself was looking- directly at Riku "Do you know what the most dangerous type of enemy one can face is Takeshi? It's an opponent who has everything to prove and nothing to lose. It's when you're pitted against such a foe that you really begin to understand combat is nothing like what they teach you at the academy. Pay close attention now..."

1653258750029.png

Riku was quick to react to the oncoming Ice barrier, flipping over it as it sprung forth only to then shatter it mid-air with a sling of his nunchuck. While he was mid-air, however, Luna would strike with her jutsu. Several pebbles would strike the monkey before he managed to land, they caused a little damage to his left arm but one thing was for certain - if Riku wasn't pissed beforehand he was now. Slamming his nunchuck against the ground multiple times the monkey began to grunt louder and louder before suddenly leaping at an incredible speed toward Luna. Like a bolt the monkey launched his attack, swinging his very real weapon at the Genin with full force, if the first didn't land he'd swing, again and again, pushing the genin to back peddle time and time again until either a teammate intervened or she took the hit. A hit that would most certainly fracture bone given the damage to the soil beforehand.

Rinka observed her opponents' actions, he was pissed and understandably so. He just had what smelled like chili powder and likely some other substance irritating his eyes and nose, have his already limited sight obscured by her own mist and after dodging her barrier of ice aimed at him and smashing it with a simple reaction, he was smacked with rocks! Yup, that is easily an equation of one pissed off nin-monkey. What was unexpected was the rushing toward Luna, Rinka hoped that the monkey would rush her instead, but it makes sense if he guided by rage to go after the opportunist rather than the ones that set it all up namely herself and the hidden from sight Gensou.
The blitz of the nin-monkey however, likely plays into Gensou's sneaky hands. She was interested in what her hidden teammate had planned but for now she'd have to get the monkey's attention off of Luna and on her instead. Focusing on lethality wasn't the goal here but she could make her tools blunt with ice. It would hurt quite a lot more than a sharp one given how cold the monkey had to be by now. Cold temperature equates weakness of stamina, the monkey would only tire himself out like this eventually but she needed to help that process along.

Pulling some shuriken from her pouch she coated them with ice quickly the process sped up exponentially by the presence of the mist and lower temperature. However, she had to be smart about this, she couldn't only throw blunted ones. If the monkey figures out what she's doing it won't work as well as it should, so she mixed in two sharpened ones with two heavy blunt ones with about four normal normal shuriken. If thrown and different times they will meet the target at a slightly staggered time and at least one sharp and one blunt should hit in the worst case. With the two sharpened ones, and two normal ones in her right hand and the blunt and remaining regular in her left she crouched down and jumped as high as she could, nearly thrice her own height, about fifteen feet into the air. Throwing the eight shuriken with a practiced mastery even if it did look a little messy due to the amount of shuriken her goal was achieved the hail of shuriken approached quickly as she landed back down she pulled a Kunai from her pouch coating the blade to be blunt tossed it backward in a high arch towards where she saw Gensou move to. A little something that could be used by the sneaky genin, incase a upclose and personal interaction happens, she may understand what's going on.

She wasn't about to wait for the result of her little plan to take fruition, she needed to ensure that that monkey stayed off Luna, if she remembered right Taijutsu isn't something that either of her new comrades specialized in at the academy. It was her strength it was time she used it. So she made a blitz of her own the mist following her closely as she charged after her thrown tools fists clenched and her knuckles, back of her hands, and fore-arms coating in Ice preparing to give this monkey a very cold and painful beating.

Continuing to watch closely Gensou took note of each of her teammate's attacks, Ice Jutsu's restricted movement also meant that a firmer step would be required not to slip on the icy ground as well as lower the environment temperature, hmm cold sapped one energy, also combined with the previous humidity would mean an increase in smoke, further obscuring the vision. While that would be a double-edged sword, the strong scent of chilli would ensure he could detect it in addition to sound. Speaking of sound, the monkey would likely attempt to compensate with his other senses if he was smart, which meant making them a liability was her next objective.

Pulling out a thin canister of white powder Gensou would start doing work for her hands as she continued her observations, contained within was a simple flour but what would make it dangerous was the explosive seal she placed atop it. Not to keep things that simple, she next began to pierce it with several shurikens, lodging them firmly within and then wrapping a section of wire around it.

The next attack that came at the monkey was the rocks, this added to the dust in the air and left loose stones across the ground, potential projectiles should enough force be applied, but the damage to the monkey's arm was the main point to take from it. An Injured limb would be slower, so approaching from the left would be added in to her planning., it was also an open wound. Nodding to herself, Gensou pulled out a small bag of salt to add to her creation.

Now she needed to wait for her moment, but there was still more she could do, when acting she needed to do maximize her time efficiently. This was one of the reasons she limited her jutsu use as well, after all why use a resource like a chakra when practical effects and tools could be used in its place or combined to make efficient use of reserves. What else could she use to further throw the monkey's focus, hmm talking and taunts, but what? Rage a target slopier and forgo tactical thinking and reasoning, that would further their advantage. The question was what would infuriate a monkey, he was moving as if he had something to prove...so pride? pride was common but what things other than skills would a monkey have pride in?.

Running it through her head it would be something in their heart, primal...yes, primal that was it. Being mistaken for something else, Apes and Monkeys were different, that could work, maybe something else too. A distracted target was also more easily fooled, so maybe some power of suggestion mixed in once that all took place. Either way it looked like she would need to finally implement her thinking when Rinka took action herself.

Leaping towards the Kunai she attached the canister she had created and launched it back at the monkey, going for somewhat of a pincer and aiming to blindside him from the left, believing her teammate would be shielded from the outcome by the monkey's body for the most part. This might also distract him to allow Rinka to beat him from the opposite side as well, but that would be up to her. When the object detonated it would not only have the flour ignite in a larger explosion, but also propel the shurikens and salt as shrapnel, the stinging possibly working to further distract him for Rinka to hit or allow a shuriken to catch him.

Regardless of the outcome, she would vanish once more into the mist nearly as soon as she acted, but not before leaving a thin wire trail for her first real jutsu and pulling a small pouch open to litter several caltrops on the opposite side of him. Using the Chakra to throw her voice with their own Cry Imitation technique to the opposite direction from where she was but still beyond the immediate view of the monkey.

"I think the Ape might be in over her head, Our Jounin never did state a name. Hmm a female ape, she ape? no Shape, Shapes a good name" Unlike her previously flat manner of speaking Gensou's voice seemed far more enthusiastic and mirthful, if a little forced with its higher pitch as she taunted him, hoping to rile him up further.

"In any case i suppose i should use a real jutsu, be careful, Summoning Jutsu: Come Forth Demon Chameleon Karma!" a telltale poof of could be heard off in the direction, along with a faint hiss before the heavy thumping noise of something large, though nothing could be seen. The truth was there was no summoning however, it was not a technique she knew how to perform, but the monkey did not know that also Camelons were notable for their ability to camouflage so it would make sense why he could not see it.

TakeshiKagirame.pngEnjoying the fight happening in front of him while waiting, Takeshi slightly jumped at the sound of an adult’s voice and the feeling of a sharp metal against his neck. What a rough start… “I suppose it means I’m in the right place after all…”, the young teen mumbled. He tried to turn to face the person talking to him, though stopping immediately once he felt the kunai’s sharp edge scraping on his skin. What followed was a rather one-sided conversation but one could take it as a lecture and Takeshi definitely wasn’t in a position to complain about it.

“They do look very capable…”, Takeshi finally spoke up, faintly wincing at the increased pressure on his shoulder. “I see how fighting an angered opponent can be dangerous but wouldn’t that make the monkey simply more predictable? At this point, outsmarting it might be even easier than before, assuming no one gets hit.”

With that being said, Takeshi kept watching the fight with interest as the team of 3 worked together to attack Riku from all sides. “Looks like Rinka’s about to meet the monkey’s blows head-on.”, he observed. With the damage done to the ground, colliding with Riku’s attacks would be dangerous but from what he’s seen thus far, Takeshi didn’t believe she did so without any plan or countermeasure.

“I know circumstances made me late to the party but should I go and help them out or keep watching?”, Takeshi asked. “I’m not sure how the monkey would fare against 4 of us, though.”

Luna watched as the rocks pelted the monkey's arm. Giving a small hint of an amused smile but it quickly shifted to one of annoyance when the monkey seemed to be directing its anger at her. "Hooray, just what I wanted..." She mumbled out sarcastically as she prepared to dodge. This is exactly why she didn't like drawing attention to herself. Now all this guy wants to is bash her head in.

She shot two quick glances at her teammates, as if to say 'you better not let this monkey kill me' before dodging out of the way of the first swing. But the attacks just kept coming. Normally, she would have just retreated somewhere to avoid the monkey all together. But he already seemed to have all his attention on her rather than her teammates. So she guess she could keep distracting him till the other two retaliate. How annoying. She dodged swing after swing. Getting a few close calls, but for the most part was just dancing in circles around the monkey. She tried her best to stay in the open to try and make Riku an easier target for the others without getting hit. Because coming from personal experiences, earth weapons hurt a lot.

The moment she noticed her two teammates starting their attack she got of the monkeys range. Using a substitution jutsu before taking cover in the mist once again while a nearby log took her place. As long as the attention stayed off of her she'd try her best to support. The best thing she could do is try to slow the monkey down. And she has a few ideas for that. Either attacking his legs with rocks or making him lose his balance.

She soon preformed a few hand signs and touched the ground. While not preforming an actual jutsu, she was moving some of her chakra into the ground. But there wasn't really much she could do. Her plan was just to try and make Riku lose his balance. Trying to uneven the earth under the monkeys feet. Though that easier said than done. She could push out or make the earth by the monkey's feet sink a bit. But only by a few inches. She could also try and breakdown the earth. Making the ground more like loose dirt than solid ground. But if they got too far away she'd have to move, repeat the hand-signs, and try again. This was so tiring.

Laughing softly to herself Clair eased her grip on Takeshi, flipping the kunai to her finger and tossing it to her free hand before stowing it. Moving to stand the woman released Takeshi and gave him a rather firm slap on the back before crossing her arms over her chest as she returned her focus to the battle at hand. "You can do whichever of the two you so desire. But that being said I think you've made the very same mistake your classmates have. You underestimate just how skilled that nin monkey is.". Smiling to herself as Luna made her substitution Clair continued "Of all the contracted animals the Uzakami clan has managed to sign, the nin monkey far surpasses them all. I'd even go as far as to rank them above the toads of Mount Myoboku. The skill they possess in ninjutsu and taijutsu are second to none and despite that, they train harder than one could even imagine. That monkey, Riku. He may be a Genin class but his skills and experience would put a chunin leaf ninja to shame. Have you ever considered that perhaps he's been holding back?"

In the instant where Luna vanished the log she had left behind her was smashed to pieces, had she taken the hit she most certainly would have been in need of serious medical attention and out of the running in terms of the test. But with the homemade grenade and ice-coated shurikens about to collide with the monkey's exposed back, it seemed as though the test was already won. That was until a dome of hardened rock sprung up and encased Riku hiding him from sight. The ice shuriken stuck to the hard rock before the grenade detonated against it with a loud boom. Dust and mist were knocked to the air following the explosion of shrapnel and fire, settling to reveal the dome in perfect condition thereafter. But the dome was not the star event, no it was what happened next that was cause for concern.

Not but a few moments after the dust had settled did Riku make his move, his hairy hands erupting from the earth beneath Rinka in a horror movie-like fashion. Taking a hold of the girl's ankles she was immediately pulled down into the earth until just her head remained above ground, shrowded by the very mist she had created. For Luna whose older brother was a Jonin earth style user it would be easy to tell this was the infamous headhunter Jutsu and right now they were all in serious trouble should they fail to gain height away from the ground.

Keeping her position for the moment Gensou's eye darted around the scene to re-evaluate her current situation. The Monkey had escalated their assault with the inclusion of earth Jutsu and vanished within the ground, so until he reappeared he would need to use some method to detect targets, she went through what she had observed of him so far. Sight and Scent were gone, Hearing would be greatly diminished, and Taste was naturally not an option since that was more snake like. Her mind stopped on the bare feet, while natural to allow him to manipulate objects like hands given his monkey physiology, which would also naturally allow him use his sense of touch so that he could feel the ground. With that she confirmed to herself he was most likely using the vibrations to detect those in contact with the ground to attack without the use of his other senses.

Given the lack of hearing it meant she would be free to converse with her teammates to restrict what the monkey knew they knew and had in mind. "Luna, Free Rinka. Hes sensing us through the ground" Her words direct and to the point. While lightning was the most effective against the earth that was lacking, the earth would move earth effectively and far quicker than manually digging. To avoid the monkey's attacks naturally, she should also evade the ground and his detection, but that would be obvious and he likely had something in mind to target them off the ground when they were less mobile. It was then she looked towards the wire she had prepared when casting her auditory genjutsu and a idea flashed through her mind to the add-in.

The sound was vibrations through the air but could also travel through the ground, given enough bass it would actually shake objects as well, such as...mimicking footsteps if she focused it enough. His attack was perhaps also aiming ton make them panic, and thrown off edge, and with that final piece of information, Gensou was thrown into action once more. With her caltrops littering the ground she would take to the air and focus her chakra, aiming to modify her cry imitation to target specific areas of the ground akin to foot steps moving towards the lake.

Not only would this allow a distraction for Luna to work, but it would also move him closer to the water to be more easily affected by the Ice Jutsu, but just to be safe she would remove her footwear and throw two Kunai with them attached where the footsteps were to end, each with an explosive note attached to each tempting to money to try that grabbing earth jutsu one more time.

Rinka was thrown off by this jutsu, she'd never seen anything like this. The headhunter jutsu, this jutsu was no joke. Getting dragged into the ground wasn't part of her plan nor did she like it. She would have started panicking if she were alone, but she heard Gensou telling Luna to get her out. Who knows, but if she could but even getting her part way out it would be enough for her to free herself. For now, she'd just have to make sure this monkey couldn't knock her out. Closing her eyes, she drew the mist inward gathering toward herself. She could defend herself by not allowing the monkey to damage her body while underground. She made a layer of ice over her vitals first pushing for the rest she had closed her eyes in deep concentration. At least like this she'd be somewhat defended, it will burn through her Chakra to keep it together if the monkey decides to strike her.

Should she struggle the tighter the ground around her would get. Instead, she'll have to be patient and wait to be pulled out of this mess she found herself in. Sadly, she can't substitute out of this unless she's struck by an ally. Once she's out she needs to get back to the water to her right. Should she freeze over some of the pond she'd be able to get out of the monkey's range.

TakeshiKagirame.png“Helping it is, then…” Now that the pressure around him subsided, Takeshi got up, lightly massaging his neck after being in the hold. Still taking note of Clair’s words, he dug his hand into his pouch to grab a kunai of his own. “Watch out for Riku’s ninjutsu and taijutsu, got it. And don’t underestimate him because of our numbers. Ohhh, yeah, they might need help…” Takeshi’s face scrunched up when Riku did his Earth Release technique, creating a solid dome to protect himself and hide him from sight. And seeing one of his new teammates disappear out of sight, hidden by the mist she conjured earlier… yeah, everyone may have underestimated the monkey.

’Not completely sure what Riku’s doing because of the mist but he’s obviously using an Earth Style jutsu…’ Twirling his kunai between his fingers, he started his run in the fight’s direction; not running toward the girls but toward a tree instead. For now, getting away from the ground seemed like a good first strategy.

Once he got high enough, crouched on a solid-enough branch, Takeshi took out another kunai and got ready, in a throwing position. “Hey girls, sorry I’m late.”, he called out, loud enough so the others would hear him. Better make himself known since his allies probably weren’t aware of him. “Err, this is a bit sudden but turns out they added me to the team, I think?” Yikes, he never was the kind to initiate talking, that was embarrassing. And he couldn’t risk talking too much since Riku could use that against them. “I have a good idea of what’s going on, I’ll support you from afar.”

Eyes scanning the area, Takeshi stood at the ready to throw kunai and shuriken should Riku make himself visible. His prime intention was to disrupt the monkey’s movements to create openings where he could. If he was lucky, Riku had no idea a fourth opponent was waiting for him to resurface. But in the case he was unlucky and has been detected already, he’d need to be quick to move if the nin-monkey turned his attention on him.

"Tch..." Of course, Riku had an earth nature too. How great. But now wasn't really the time to complain. Rinka got caught in the headhunter jutsu and Riku was still hiding under the ground. She gave a thumbs-up to Gensou's request and made her way over to Rinka. But there was one benefit to them sharing the same affinity at least. She could kinda sense the monkey's movement under the ground. Though if he got too far away she probably wouldn't be able to tell.

"I can't completely pull you out alone, but I'll loosen the earth so you can move. You should be able to pull yourself out or use a jutsu." She explained while touching the ground. The earth around Rinka would start to loosen. Feeling more like dirt or gravel so it should be far easier to move! "Anyways uh...you need to get to the water, right? My range isn't that big but if we stand by the edge of the water I should be able to tell if Riku is approaching us. Whether he's above or below the ground." She spoke as she glanced towards the fourth kid. Didn't he show up a while ago? Oh well. If he's here to help she won't be against it. She offered him a nod. Standing up once Rinka was able to get out of the trap. She wasn't sure what Gensou was doing but it seemed like the smart thing to do was to retreat away from the ground and to the water. She wasn't sure how effective ice was against earth, but she knew that water wasn't really going to give them the biggest advantage.

As the sound of footsteps echoed through the ground Riku noted their direction and indeed their sudden appearance. Was he honestly supposed to fall for such a petty trick? The ninja whose steps the decoy was to be attributed too were far too open and showed no signs of concealment despite the danger his Jutsu implied to those moving rapidly on the ground. It was clearly either a trap or diversion and he was not going to fall into the egg child tempo again. Turning his attention instead to the already trapped member of the team Riku remained still under the ground, listening and waiting for another to approach. After all if he trapped a second the third was of little concern to him in terms of one on one combat, patience would earn him victory and all the perks that were sure to follow.

And that patience would soon pay off for Luna soon made her move and made an attempt to free her teammate. As the earth softened around Rinka Riku made his move, hand taking a firm grip of Luna's ankle before pulling her down into the earth right aside her teammate just as the two seemed free from harm. With the earth hardening around the two, they were hard stuck in the ground and although Riku would soon be running out of air, things did not seem good for the team. How were they going to free Rinka and Luna? How were they going to make Riku show himself? Were they doomed to fail or would they manage to fight through the odds? Clair was very interested to see the outcome.

Landing with a counter vibration Gensou's expression remained the same, despite her inward frustration. The footsteps should have appeared as if she was landing and running off on her own but the monkey seemed too preoccupied with her other teammate to fall for the distraction. Was she relying too much on her teammates and trying to work with them? Creating opportunities and distractions for teamwork seemed to have led them into a worse situation, and now two of them were buried with herself having nothing to extract them.

Explosive tags would not work for excavation unless she wanted to harm her teammates, and she did not have enough stock for anything like that. If she targeted the ground directly she would instead harm them as well so that was not an option. He was going to have to surface eventually though so her only remaining hope was to face him directly and hope the late arrival could come up with something.

Giving her options a final check she would outwardly sigh to herself, standing still as she adapted her previous jutsu to counter the footstep's vibrations. It was a simple jump to understand from her previous tactic, if she could mimic the vibrations of footsteps with sound, then all she had to do was reverse that and it would cancel her own out, so while she came up with this on the fly it would be an interesting option to explore later.

Walking silently across the field she would look across and down at the heads of her teammates, standing barefoot as she began to breathe slowly as her eye closed. She was going to trap him, and to do that she needed to put it all on the line with a final dare. Slowly reaching to her wrists she began to detach several items from her outfit, two spools of wire from her sleeves were cast aside, the same for the pouches on her waste, Kunai, Shuriken and more falling away.

This was her gamble, the monkey had greater speed, strength, senses, skill, experience, manoeuvrability and agility, from what she had seen so far he surpassed them in nearly every category and despite her best efforts, she could not deny that. Regardless there was one thing she knew she had, and it was the reason she had managed to get where she was despite her other limitations and that was her mind, and that counted for far more than just intelligence.

"Takeshi, When he emerges. Do everything you can to release my teammates, then throw everything at him. I am going to keep him busy, no matter what happens or you see, that is what you need to do" Her tone was nearly the same as her usual but with added firmness that was almost imperceptible. She finalized her statement by casting her side of her outer robe with several additional clatters from the tools held within it leaving her with only her black underlayer visible. then removed her scarf and slowly wound it around her arm to be ready. Other than this she remained perfectly still, focused and ready for whatever she now had in mind.
