Hi! Welcome to the Kill Nothing but Time character thread! Below you'll find everything you need to create a character for the roleplay. This roleplay is on an application basis, so please keep in mind that it will not be first come, first serve. While some roles may say 'closed', this may change; if that turns out to be the case, I'll announce it.

IC: here

CURRENT DEADLINE: 5/30

ROLES
Cook (1) - The Cook is the person who feeds the campers. Whether or not they're good at their job is up for debate, but they are the only one cooking the food, so it doesn't really matter all that much. Either way, the campers are eating whatever they serve up. (CLOSED)
Arts & Crafts Supervisor (1) - The ACS looks over the arts and crafts cabin! They run the more creative activities for the campers like making paper snowflakes and such. (CLOSED)
Recreation & Activities Supervisor (1) - The RAS overlooks outdoor activities like hiking, canoeing, manhunt, etc. (CLOSED)
Medical Supervisor (1) - When someone gets hurt, they're taken to the medical supervisor. Their cabin has basic medical supplies; they're not fully equipped for EVERYTHING, but without a hospital in close range, they're about the best anyone has. (CLOSED)
Groundskeeper (1) - The groundskeeper takes care of different areas of the camp. Cleaning the cabins, canoes, mowing, etc, if it has to do with upkeep its in their wheelhouse. (CLOSED)
Security (2) - Basically making sure everyone is safe and campers aren't sneaking out in the middle of the night (1 OPEN)
Counselors (3) - The younger, usually-college-age staff that watch over their specific group of kids and try to keep them in line. (1 OPEN)
Ranger (1) - The ranger is around to make sure the researchers of the Project Uregelrett team don't get lost somewhere in the great wild. Know the area like the back of their hand...or supposedly do, at least (OPEN)
Researchers (3) - The researchers specify in some area of science, probably natural sciences like ornithology or something like physics. (3 OPEN)

about the roleplayer. Ollie | 21 | Any pronouns

Hey yall! I'm Ollie, the GM for this group! I don't have any triggers, but just remind people to be respectful. My enjoyment will come from everyone else enjoying the group : )

name. Dakota Braaten

nickname. Coda

age. 31

gender/pronouns. Transmasc Nonbinary; They/Them/He/Him

sexuality. Bisexual

role. The Groundskeeper

appearance. Dakota stands 5'4", yet still exudes a threatening aura. Kidding! Well, mostly, at least; they seem to have a permanent frown on their face and it isn't helped by the axe hanging from their belt at all times. They have wavy dark brown hair, bordering on curly, that reaches their shoulders, but usually is up in a short ponytail when they're on-the-job, with plenty of bobby pins at work to keep it out of their eyes. Their eyes are a dark brown, they have tan skin, and most of the time they have stubble along their jawline unless by some miracle they decide to go clean-shaven (the miracle, of course, usually being that they have a job interview upcoming or a dinner with their family). They're a sort of stout person, and while they have a good amount of muscle in their arms and legs, they could be described as having a 'dad bod'.

body modifications. They have a large carrion beetle among flowers tattoo on their inner right forearm, and a millipede tattoo that curls up their upper left arm. They have pierced ears as well.

scars. N/A

clothing style. Dakota dresses practically. They wear tank tops with flannel shirts over them, tucked into dark grey denim work pants with a dark brown leather belt. Looped onto the belt are their hatchet on one side and their multitool on the other. They have a beat up pair of tan steel-toed boots that they wear constantly. Accessories include simple triangle-shaped steel stud earrings, a watch on their right wrist, what looks to be a rainbow-colored friendship bracelet on the left, and a dark green denim baseball cap that mushrooms embroidered on the front.

personality. Dakota is, in a word, cagey. They don't exactly avoid social situations, but they don't get very personable with interacting with others; its unlikely that anyone they've met recently will know much about them other than their name and the fact they work as groundskeeper. With strangers and people they've just started interacting with, they can come off as serious and no-nonsense, seeming exhausted at the idea of light conversation and idle chatter. Their work seems more important to them than trying to get along with their coworkers, despite the fact that they do continually show up to any 'bonding' events and gatherings that might occur.

The truth is that Dakota is just tired constantly and has little to no energy left to spend on socializing with strangers. Nights of bad sleep and days of getting work done have left them feeling drained most of the time, as well as a bit cranky. After getting to know them- which may take a little work -they can be more talkative and...well, not carefree, but a little less work-centric. They still act pretty rigid, like its a total impossibility for them to fully relax, yet they manage to actually be open to small talk and maybe revealing one or two facts about themself. Once they've opened up a little, they've been known to show people how to do various things that could be considered 'dad tasks'- woodworking, changing tires, working on plumbing, any hands-on task that could be considered a 'useful life tool'. They'll act like they're doing it grudgingly despite probably having been the one to approach whoever needed help after seeing them struggle with something. In more stressful situations, they're the sort of person to end up organizing plans and assigning people tasks in order to get things done.

drive. Primarily, Dakota's drive boils down to 'working and getting money as to not be homeless'. However, beyond that, they also prioritize the safety of others. Even if something isn't a part of their job description or even if they aren't getting paid for it, they go out of their way to fix things they view as potential accidents. So, basically, they're driven by scraping by in life and watching over other people.

fears. Their biggest fear is falling asleep, passing out, or being knocked out; illogical, sure, but they always feel as if something bad will happen while they're asleep. They also have a fear of hospitals as well; semi-connected to that, they have a fear of getting shots/injections of any kind.

habits. They fiddle with their multitool when they're nervous, flicking out tools and such and putting them back in. They also bounce their knee a lot, as well as tap their fingers on things when thinking. When they stand, their natural position is the classic thumbs-hooked-through-belt-loops look.

growth. They could learn to be more trusting that other people can handle themselves and tasks without their constant supervision. They could also learn to relax a little and not focus on work as much.

public image. Dakota comes off as the classic 'mysterious groundskeeper who could potentially be a murderer'. That isn't their intention, but it is how they sometimes come across. After all, what do you need that hatchet for? Murdering people*? (*It's actually for just-in-case situations. Also, chopping wood. That's a big one)

hobbies. They collect animal skulls and bones and work them into different art pieces; they have a cage in their cabin that they use to set out animal remains (one's that they found, not that they killed themself) for carrion beetles and other decomposers. They're also big on fishing, cooking, woodworking, and sewing/embroidery.

suitcase. In their suitcase, they have 5 different sets of clothes, a yellow raincoat that makes it look like they should be out on a fishing boat, about 10 different containers of orange tictacs, a 'women love me, fish fear me' baseball cap they were gifted by their niece and only brought to take a single selfie with to send to her, their hatchet, their multitool, a guide to foraging in the area, sleep medication, a compass, a small sewing kit, and a small stuffed frog that's pink with a green stomach.

cabin. Their cabin is cozy, but neat. They have a little work station set up at their desk with a laptop, a notebook, and some pens, with a corkboard above it which is completely empty. They also have a workbench that has a board above it where all the tools are hung neatly. Everything is pretty organized and tidy.

tidbits & facts.
1 - They're incredibly close with their niece, Ava, who's 15. More often than not, they're the one who watches her when her parents- their older sister and her husband -go out. She was even going to be part of the camp, but broke her arm a week before it was supposed to begin.

2 - Their favorite animals are centipedes. When they were younger, they used to go around in the woods outside their house and turn over logs to try and find them.

3 - They're a fan of romantic movies, but if anyone found that out they would die. 27 Dresses tops their movie list.

4 - Their slight paranoia has resulted in them having to check that every window and door is locked before heading to bed. They also need to close the curtains as well, otherwise they're incredibly uncomfortable.

5 - When they were younger, they had wild dreams of being an archeologist. Then they found out that Indiana Jones wasn't real. They were inconsolable for days.

6 - They're probably one of the only people that actually read the long ramblings before recipes on recipe blogs.

7 - They can't wear clothing with frills or unneeded stitches. It bothers them way too much.

8 - Their favorite yankee candle scent is lemon lavender.

9 - Unsurprisingly, they also love any food or scent that has citrus in it.

10 - Their current passion project is making a secret bookcase door in their sisters home. The only reason they aren't doing it in their own is because they're in an apartment and the actual owner would never allow it.

background. Dakota grew up in North Dakota, which may surprise literally no one. Choosing their name led to a lot of their family poking fun at them at first. Their parents owned farmland and often they would find themselves helping around the property with various tasks, leading to them learning a lot of skills they typically wouldn't have. Mostly, they tended to help with the animals, which was what they enjoyed most.

When they were 14, their mother fell ill. Apparently it had been a long time coming, but their father hadn't told them or their sister about it in order to try and keep them from being stressed. Rather than be taken to the hospital, their mother instead stayed home with a hired nurse. One night, the nurse had to run out due to an unseen family emergency. Assuming things would be fine, Dakota was left in charge, being the only one left in the house. They ended up accidentally falling asleep in the armchair next to where their mom was sleeping and, come morning, found their mother had passed away during the night. It had been the sort of thing that was unpreventable even if the nurse had been around, but Dakota still blamed themself for it anyway.

They ended up not going to college and instead continuing to work on the farm until they were 24, when they got into doing handyman work. That eventually led to them applying for a job at the Sunnyshores Camp, wanting a job that was more wilderness-based just for the hell of it (truth be told, they wanted to look into foraging, you know?). They ended up getting the job as groundskeeper and arrived about a week or so before the rest of the staff to make sure everything was fully ready for the opening.

inter-character relationships. TBA; feel free to contact me to figure something out! I love plotting future and pre-plot relationships between characters.

    hair

very thick and midnight black, with an slight wave. t's kept longer and swept to the side, though a few strands tend to fall over his forehead. it’s quite common to see him running a hand through his hair to push them back. a thick beard also rests of his face, well on its way to full-blown lumberjack style; he keeps it very neat and trim.

    eyes

deep chocolate brown. they always seem to sparkle in the sun, transforming into a warm coffee with milk and sugar-esque color. the corners of his eyes are all wrinkled due to all the smiling he does on a daily basis. and squinting. lots of squinting. he may need glasses.

    body

tanned skin, courtesy of his indo-guyanese descent. he’s very trim; he’s got plenty of spare time to commit to working out. he’s not to the point of “gym-bro” fit, just mildly toned with some muscle definition. strong enough to wield an axe or carry a large stack of firewood with ease. he’s already tall, taller with the added height of his hiking boots, so he frequently towers over people. his posture’s not the best. large feet and large hands.

    body mods

a couple of small tattoos across from his college days; all nature related. he frequently (and confidently) misidentifies the flora ink. he has very noticeable burn scarring across his lower back, wrapping around to cover the right side of his stomach.

    clothing style

the majority of jordy's wardrobe consists of multiple sets of the national park service uniform; the khaki short sleeve button-downs, forest green khakis (in pant and short form), brown leather hiking boots, and the campaign hat. he never goes anywhere without the hat. if he’s going to wear anything, it’s gonna be the hat. please don’t touch his hat.

his loungewear when he's off-duty consists of the stereotypical forestry hipster aesthetic; flannels and placket shirts, dark-wash jeans, simple graphic tees, and the casual puffer vest.

ambrose verne
"you're jesting."

name : ambrose verne

age : twenty-five

role : security

gender/pronouns : cis male, he/him

sexuality : homoromantic demisexual

appearance : ambrose stands at a full 6'0" in height, and he has dark brown hair that falls in soft, loose waves, and his eyes are a matching warm, dark brown. he has warm, olive skin and he's clean shaven. his hair is short but also long enough that it can be pulled back into a short ponytail.

body mods/scars : he has a left ear piercing of a small golden hoop, a stick and poke tattoo of a pawprint on his right ankle. he has a remnant, faded scar on his upper lip from a busted lip.

clothing style : ambrose tends to stick to button up shirts with the sleeves rolled up a little and at least one button is always undone, and he's usually seen with a looser, breezier tanktop underneath the button up. ambrose goes for black or beige khaki pants, and he tucks his shirt into his pants. as for shoes, black leather boots are his go to shoes.

brief personality : ambrose can easily be described as mellow and chill. he does enjoy social situations and he particularly enjoys being kept busy and having something to focus on. at the same time, ambrose values his alone time and he asks those around him to respect this, he enjoys the quiet as sometimes being security can be stressful so he values having time to himself to wind down. for the most part, ambrose is easy to get along with and he enjoys talking and listening to others. he is indeed a great listener if you have something on your mind you want to speak.

even with his job, ambrose is pretty relaxed, and yes he will admit he has been permissive with some of the kids and them going out at night. some might say he sucks at his job, ambrose will promptly disagree. but, he enjoys making others happy and laugh, he's a funny guy who laughs at his own jokes.

fears : arachnophobia - fear of arachnids, claustrophobia - fear of confined spaces, atychiphobia - fear of failure

hobbies : ambrose loves doing word searches and crossword puzzles, they just seem to keep him occupied and focused when he's not particularly busy and with word searches he'll circle in words that are not even on the list for fun. he's also fond of swimming, and walks in the woods.

habits : humming, biting his fingernails, leg bouncing

drive : the safety of the camp rests on his shoulders, that and keeping kids from bounding off at night to do what they want. sure, he is pretty chill and somewhat lenient but he genuinely cares about everyone's safety and it fuels him to continue doing his job, and since it's rested on him, he can't afford to be slacking off on job anyways. and, there's a lingering worry that ambrose might fail at his job. at the same time, ambrose likes seeing everyone happy and well and calm.

public image : at first glance, ambrose probably exudes "can and will fold your spinal cord in half" energy. well, that's not entirely wrong perhaps. but he's mostly known for being that cool and chill security guard at camp that you can talk to.

how they can grow : ambrose could definitely learn how to be more firmer and less lenient with the kids, and not let them be out so late. safety is very important.

tidbits + facts :
- he really loves cats! dogs are alright but he is definitely more of a cat person.
- dislikes hot beverages. he'll drink coffee, tea, etc... if it is ice cold.
- carries peppermints and hard candies in his pockets.
- doesn't like being touched unless he knows you well enough.
- the nickname "amby" has been bestowed upon him, though he isn't a huge fan of it.
- ambrose seems to gravitate more towards suspenseful stories rather than fun, lighthearted stories.
- flirting seems to go right over his head.
- moderate spice tolerance, some things aren't spicy to him while other things are spicy
- very particular about his hair, he always keeps it well-groomed.
- double checks everything to make sure he hasn't forgotten anything
- what even is his handwriting? it's so bad and sketchy
- he has a shellfish allergy
- particularly fond of rainy weather

brief background : ambrose is the eldest of two: him having a younger by about two years. his childhood was pretty fine, his parents worked to keep money flowing and food on the table. when ambrose was eleven, his father died which left him, his mother, and younger brother. his mother took on multiple jobs to keep money and food in the household. when ambrose was sixteen, he decided to go out and do some job seeking to help out, but he would bounce around from job to job and he never really held down one job for long. when he was nineteen, he decided to move out of the house, though he really didn't plan on going to college. rather, ambrose was looking for a decent place to live and for a job that he can actually settle down with.

the job of security at sunnyshores camp was very appealing to ambrose. so, why not apply then? he figured he could definitely give it a shot.
inter-character relationships : n/a

what's in your character's suitcase? : with him, ambrose has brought changes of clothes, sunscreen lotion, a flashlight for when it grows dark and he's out and about, a whole bag of the red striped peppermints, a stuffed gray tabby cat plush affectionately named Stormy that strictly stays in his cabin, bag of caramel hard candy, one ghost book, and a couple flimsy books full of word searches and crossword puzzles.

how has your character decorated their cabin? : his cabin is quite comfortable and homey. at least to him it is. but, ambrose does tend to leave things lying around the cabin and then forgetting about them. his bed isn't the greatest since he's got the blankets clumped up and pillowcases almost falling off the pillows. he has a small nightstand next to his bed with some clutter. stormy the plush cat rests in the middle of the bed and that's where she spends most of her time. he has a desk where he keeps most of his stuff tucked into drawers.

  • Name: Isaak "Iikka" Moon
    Age: 34
    Role: Recreation & Activities Supervisor
    Gender/Pronouns: trans masc, he/him
    Sexuality: bisexual

Appearance: Isaak is about 5'10" and just the lankiest man you've ever seen in your life. At least 40% limb. Burns and freckles in the sun. He has a straight nose, green eyes, and shaggy dark hair that is one missed haircut away from turning into a mullet.

Body Mods/Scars: A small collection of scars and callouses on his hands. Big, nasty surgical scars on his right knee and lower spine. He's always liked the idea of tattoos but has never been able to settle on anything.

Clothing Style: Comfy, practical, and rugged. Hiking boots and cargo pants, t-shirts in neon, easily visible colors. Lots of pockets. Probably wearing several friendship bracelets kids were forced to make in arts and crafts, along with a paracord one. Hat with a big brim.

Brief Personality: Mom Friend TM. Peppy, upbeat, and optimistic. He's hoping you'll just be annoyed about it and won't realize that he has no idea what he's doing, and also that he's secretly kind of a bitter bastard about, you know, life. He's happiest alone in the woods, but he'll settle for being in the woods with a dozen odd children.

Fears: Falling, not being able to keep doing the things that he loves.

Hobbies: hiking, archery, kayaking, horseback riding, drawing, yoga, skiing.

Habits: Talks with his hands. Carries a walking stick around and often leans on it to get his weight off his bad leg. Paces when he's bored or nervous. Will eat leaves/flowers/berries directly off of trees.

Drive: Despite his rather chill personality, Isaak is extremely competitive. He wants to be the best, and he’s still struggling with interacting with the world when things aren’t a competition.

Public Image: Isaak was a World Orienteering Championship medalist for the forest long distance individual race in 2013. Unfortunately, he's rather better known for his massive mountaineering accident the following summer in the circles that care about these things.

How They Can Grow: Accepting that he cannot be in control of every aspect of a situation, learning that people will still like him even if he's not aggressively happy at all times, chilling out and accepting that life isn’t a competition that he has to win.

    Tidbits & Facts:
    1. One of those people who asks if you've tried yoga about things. Infuriatingly, knows enough about yoga to suggest specific exercises and routines that are actually helpful.
    2. Has opinions TM as mountaineering as a tourism hobby for rich people. Don't get him started on Everest.
    3. Is aware that this may be the first time his campers have gotten to be in the woods and does his best to make sure they leave with an appreciation for nature.
    4. Having known many different kinds of outdoorsy people, he thinks birders are the worst. Hopes one day he'll become as delightfully batshit as the mycology enthusiasts.
    5. Gets up early and does yoga every morning. Shows up to breakfast already well awake with a green tea. Fueled by your anger about it.
    6. Perhaps just a teensy bit obsessive over safety procedures. Did you check that knot? Did you? Are you sure?
    7. Starbucks order is an iced matcha latte. He doesn't like coffee.
    8. Frequently wears a knee and back brace. He's usually pretty careful not to overdo things, but had in the past has reinjured himself by pushing too hard.
    9. Grew up in Colorado and has mostly lived in the western US before coming to Maine. Has also spent some time in Finland, where he picked up his nickname. (It's pronounced "Ee-kah", btw)
    10. His favorite candy is black licorice. No it's not gross, you just have no taste. Sorry.

Brief Background: A former extreme sports nut, Isaak has been involved in competitive adventure racing and orienteering events since he was fifteen. He had a bad mountaineering accident in the Rockies in his early 20s, which has left him with a bad knee and back. His recovery was a rough, ugly process, made worse by his repeatedly trying to push himself too soon.
After recovering, he's done stints as various hunting, hiking, and other outdoor sports guide and instructor before figuring out that he liked teaching kids best and ending up at Sunnyshores.

    Inter-character Relationships: TBD

What's in Your Character's Suitcase?: A couple of changes of clothes (extra socks!), his compass, several new but still well thumbed guides to local birds, plants, and fungi, several local map books, a hunting/utility knife, a small first aid kit, a stainless steel water bottle, a yoga mat duct tape, a fire starter, sunscreen, a small notebook/journal, several pencils, and a small travel watercolor set.

How Has Your Character Decorated Their Cabin?: Isaak brought a sleeping bag instead of sheets. He's got a couple of posters of scientific illustrations of local plants and animals up on the walls. Other than that, he hasn't done too much with it--he'd rather be outside than in.

  • 1653385312613.pngName: Brett Watts
    Age: 27
    Role: Cook

    Gender/Pronouns: He/Him Trans Man

    Sexuality: Unsure

Appearance: Brett is about 5'6. He's very broad and somewhat heavyset. He's rather pale though being outside more since working at the camp he's developed a slight tan. He has freckles covering most of his face and arms. Short curly dark brown hair and light brown eyes. His arms and legs are rather hairy. His jaw is covered in dark stubble except on his chin where he has a short goatee.

    Body Mods/Scars: Tattoo on his
left forearm, Tattoo on his right upper arm. And a very sad looking smiley face on his left shoulder a friend stick poked on him during a party when he was 19.

Clothing Style: Very much 'Dad on vacation'. Always cargo shorts no matter the season. Some sort of button-up shirt left open. And a slightly baggy t-shirt usually with some sort of logo or brand on it. Usually in sandals or when the weather calls for it a very worn-out pair of hiking boots.

Brief Personality: He's rather chill but can be prone to jumping on new ideas at a moment's notice when prodded. He's very much a follower and relies somewhat on others for guidance. Brett is very friendly and once he considers someone his buddy they're basically stuck with him. He is excitable and can bring a lot of energy when needed but mostly just like to relax and have a good time.

Fears: Being touched by stuff in deep water. Drowning. Heights.

Hobbies: Tabletop gaming. Video games. Cooking.

Habits: Picking at his fingernails. Pacing. Not noticing how loud he's talking.

Drive: Having a good time and making others happy. Brett is a pretty simple guy, he just wants to chill. And when people around him have problems that mows down on your chilling time. So Brett always tries to lend a hand, make others laugh, or do whatever to make those around him happy. He's just being a bro. Recently now since he started working at camp the kids have been an excellent motivator. It's hard not to be motivated when you have so many mouths to feed. He knows they'd probably eat whatever he served but he always tries hard to make sure it's something good.

Public Image: Brett is what most would consider the stereotype of a nerd. He's that guy you see getting way too into a session of DnD at a table of the local games store. He's the guy hogging that one new game at the arcade. At camp, whenever not in the dining hall or kitchen facilities he's probably in a hammock somewhere taking a nap. He absolutely slips campers extra snacks if they ask.

How They Can Grow: Learn to take things more seriously. Relaxing all the time will only get him so far.

    Tidbits & Facts:
-Tried starting a band in middle school even though he absolutely could not play an instrument.
-He chose to apply for this job by doing a coin toss.
-His favorite color is chartreuse just cause he likes saying the word.
    -Absolutely adores cats.
    -probably has insomnia.
-In his DnD group he plays a dwarf cleric.
-doesn't actually like anime that much despite his other 'nerdy' interests.
-wants to one day own one of those gnarly wizard vans that were popular in the 70s.
-Never went to summer camp as a kid.
    -would do anything for cheesecake.
    -favorite food is lasagna.
-sleeps with at least 3 pillows.

Brief Background: Brett comes from a poor family so he's had a bit of a rough start growing up. The youngest of 3 he went through most of his childhood watching his family scrape by. He got into cooking at a young age, inspired by his mom who was somehow able to put together good meals with what little they had. He started questioning his identity in late high school and eventually dropped out when he ran away from home at 17 after continued arguments with his family. He tends not to stay in one place very often, even years later. Usually living short stints in shared apartments, couch surfing or going cross country in his car. He hops between small-time jobs a lot.

    Inter-character Relationships: TBA

What's in Your Character's Suitcase?: 3 changes of clothes, spf 50 sunscreen, a gameboy with pokemon red, his cell phone and a small rechargeable battery pack, a brand new book on identifying birds, an extra pair of sandals, a bright orange rain poncho, and a cookbook that looks like it's been heavily used with a ton of sticky notes poking out of the pages.
How Has Your Character Decorated Their Cabin?: Brett hasn't done much to his except put up a calendar beside his bed that is full of cat pictures. He threw a small tie dye patterned fleece blanket over the bed. Unloaded his many, totally necessary, pillows and oriented them how he pleases. (in a big pile smushed into the corner of the bed, you haven't even slept there yet how..) One of them isn't even a real pillow but a very distressed and floppy plush duck that looks like it's been through a lot. So far looking comfortable, if not a bit messy.

Name: Sable Woods
Age: 28
Role: Researcher (chemistry/stream ecology)
Gender/Pronouns: she/her; trans
Sexuality: Lesbian

Appearance: 5’9”; White with faded green curly hair pulled back into short pigtails. She has sharp facial features, brown eyes, and a twiggy physique.

Body Mods/Scars: Black studs on both ears

Clothing Style: Sable’s work outfit consists of goggles, cat ear headphones, a dirty lab coat over a hoodie, neon gym shorts, and light-up waterproof combat boots

Personality: Sable is inquisitive and enjoys teaching others anything she has just learned. This does genuinely mean anything and makes the classes she teaches veer wildly off topic. If you can tell her something interesting that she hasn’t heard before, you will have her undivided attention. At the same time, she has trouble prioritizing things other than whatever is holding her immediate interest. She generally tries to be amiable and respectful of personal boundaries, but has a habit of ending up in places she isn’t supposed to be.

Fears: Wolves, Tight spaces, Real ghosts

Hobbies: Video games & Reading (especially mysteries), explaining magic tricks

Habits: Pen clicking, Biting sweatshirt strings, Adjusting goggle straps

Drive: Sable is here to discover new things, whether scientific or just learning what makes people tick. And if something is going to give her a weird story to tell, that’s time well spent as far as she’s concerned. Sable always wants to be moving and was drawn to this particular research group due to the amount of outdoor work involved.

Public Image: Depending on your personality, Sable is either a delightful presence or a bit of an annoyance. If nothing, else everyone who has met her would describe her as a driven woman.

How They Can Grow: Sable has space to become more of a team player and take into account the interests of the group as a whole.

Brief Background: Sable has been in love with science since she was a kid. A combination of her upbringing and high school teachers pushed her in towards chemistry, studying at a state school. She decided to take a couple year break before starting grad school and ended up on a stint as an intern to a private detective. This was a unique time in her life. That’s about all you’ll get out of the subject from her due to supposed NDAs. She completed grad school for ecology and found herself a spot on the research team currently residing at Sunnyshores.

Tidbits & Facts:
  • Has never eaten a bagel. This is not intentional, the opportunity has simply never presented itself.
  • Installed the stomp-lights in the boots herself
  • Was deeply into Hello Kitty lore for several years
  • Can play harmonica like nobody’s business, but only Piano Man
  • The margins of her notebooks are filled with countless games of a convoluted version of tic tac toe
  • Puts cumin in everything if given the chance
  • Still uses a nokia from 2006
  • Is currently on her 5th playthrough of the ace attorney games
  • Allergic to live herring
  • Tried to get all her friends to start using AIM in 2014
  • Paddleball collection

Inter-character Relationships: (Pending)

What's in Your Character's Suitcase?: Stream ecology kit, extra goggles, chargeable battery pack, bug spray, a lighter, harmonica, playing cards, various supplies for magic tricks, a sweatshirt for every day of the week, two sets of every other type of clothes, rain boots, toiletries, several towels, 3DS, notebooks, 12-pack of pens, waterproof bags, head lamp, and a harmonica.

How Has Your Character Decorated Their Cabin?: There are pages of research pinned up all over her wall with rainbow strings connecting them. The strings are entirely for show and the pages she has posted are all notes she isn’t currently using. The purpose is more to be able to have something to talk about when someone visits the cabin.

Screenshot_20220524-203502_Sketchbook.jpgName: Darling Paget

Age: 33

Role: Medical Supervisor

Gender/Pronouns: Nonbinary (they/she/he)

Sexuality: Yep

Appearance: 6’1”, scruffy, and soft around the middle. Painted toenails; fingernails kept plain, short and clean. Carefully tousled hair (naturally a mousy brown, dyed a richer more reddish-brown), round brown eyes. A vast catalog of smiles for different occasions.
(sketch by me <3)

Body Mods/Scars: Tattoos (Little crescent moon and clouds, on right ankle; A pancake breakfast with a face made of fruit and bacon, on right hip; Cooker the moon robot from Wallace and Gromit, on left calf; a different temporary tattoo or three every few days, on inside of right forearm); Pierced ears (usually fake pearl studs); slightly messy scarring from a traffic collision on left upper arm.

Clothing Style: A lot of visible mending and loud colors/patterns. Birkenstocks. A few t-shirts, all hand-cropped, and all of which have to be worn inside-out on this job because they have logos for bands with names like The Screaming Fuckbusters or whatever.

Personality: Impatient, does not do well sitting around waiting for things to happen, and a bit dramatic. Always has a joke on the tip of their tongue—sometimes in a way that can get a little annoying, and sometimes-sometimes in a way that’s a little annoying on purpose. Overall pretty friendly, but also kind of flighty and petty. Nosy, not in a rumor-mongering way, but just likes to know things that aren’t really their business—a good confidante, but never confides anything meaningful in return.

Fears: Large amounts of bugs; claustrophobia, especially car wrecks or being buried alive; total silence and isolation; having their inner thoughts/feelings externalized against their will (e.g. being unable to control displays of emotion, particularly anger, or having their mind read).

Hobbies: Embroidery; mixology; “dramatic journaling” (Writing fiction based loosely on what they and their peers get up to but changing the names. Not published, it's just for themself)

Habits: Rarely finishes a sentence. Will mumble-hum along to songs they Do Not Know the lyrics to, and mumble-hum songs they Do know when they’re doing something with their hands; smiles as a reflex to indicate he’s paying attention (or as a reflex in response to almost anything); uses child-friendly cuss substitutes unless really caught off guard.

Drive: Guilt about her failed marriage and desire for a new and better relationship. They strive to be socially upbeat and unflappable because they think their moodiness caused their divorce (it was the opposite, it was in fact the refusal to show hurt that they've doubled down on). Overall to be a source of positivity and comfort to those around them.

Public Image: Goofy, easy-to-talk-to vibes; Tends towards a lot of casual friendships and flirtations with their peers; Varying degrees of respect from kids.

How They Can Grow: Learn to work better as a team, rely on people and stop stifling genuine emotions

Tidbits & Facts:
  • Actually a little vain but the style she cultivates is disarrayed in a way that they don’t seem to care. Like an absolute poser.
  • Keeps a jar of temporary tattoos in addition to stickers for their patients.
  • Allergic to weed. This haunts her.
  • Not a very outdoorsy person but is willing to pretend to be in order to be more likable.
  • Her favorite artist is Wayne Thiebaud.
  • Has a lovely little shitty beat-up sedan from like 2003 or something, but will do almost anything to avoid having to actually drive.
  • Tried TikTok witchcraft for three weeks once.
  • Will spend the duration of the camp pining for his cat Corduroy, who is staying with a friend.
  • In their opinion, if they were an animal they would be a capybara.
  • Grew up openly trans starting in middle school, but picked the name Darling many years later and has not once regretted it.
Brief Background: This is Darling’s first year at Sunnyshores. He’s a pediatric nurse whose colleague at a (relatively) nearby town’s clinic normally takes the position, but asked her to go instead this year because of a scheduling conflict. They grew up in Brooklyn, the eldest of 4 siblings between separated parents, did So Much Babysitting, and kind of plinkoed their way into their profession through a series of opportunities in college. He doesn’t regret it or anything but it's not a Calling. They got married seven years ago and divorced two years afterwards.

Inter-character Relationships: TBD!

What's in Your Character's Suitcase? Suitcases plural, I’m afraid. Way more clothing than necessary; four books (two novels, one poetry collection, one book of fiction-writing advice); hair product; a couple novelty mugs; one unopened bottle of tequila (they figured other staff would be drinking occasionally and didn’t want to come empty-handed); a multitool he bought because it seemed like the kind of thing you should have at a summer camp; bug spray; slippers for inside their cabin.

How Has Your Character Decorated Their Cabin? She kind of forgot to think about bringing things specifically for decoration, but has some nice mugs and tacked up a shriveled daisy chain crown they made on the first day. Will probably accumulate a few things from the arts and crafts projects.

CHARACTER SHEETAn image of a man with brown, wavy hair. Model name unknown.
Name:
Malcolm Uriel Winters / "Mal"
Age: 32
Role: Security Guard
Gender/Pronouns: He/him and they/them.
Sexuality: Demisexual

Appearance: Malcolm is 6 foot tall man with brown wavy hair. He has a bit of a stubble that he maintains lest it becomes unruly. He has a lean and athletic build; not extremely bulky but fit enough to run quickly and carry people on his own.
Body Mods/Scars: He has a small tattoo on his upper back of a list of names encased in a red heart. No piercings, they get in the way of his work.
Clothing Style: He prefers wearing coats and sweaters. Not only are they stylish, but they keep him warm and cozy in the outdoors. They are also easy to remove in case of emergencies.

Brief Personality: Malcolm is an aloof but gentle giant. He prefers not to be in the spotlight. He is quiet and can come off as standoffish when he does speak. His voice is surprisingly loud and clear to those who don't know him well.

Fears:
  • Malcolm is afraid of heights. It's a silly fear, he always tells himself, because climbing up until he reaches the very stars is something he can do, easy peasy. Going down though? That's a different story entirely.
  • Possible failure haunts Malcolm even in his dreams. He has stared death in the face numerous times before, whether as someone escaping from it, or as someone trying to get another person away.
Hobbies:
  • Biking
  • Playing cards (Solitaire, Uno!)
  • Working out
  • Coming up with ideas for stories but never actually doing them
Habits:
  • He twirls a strand of his hair from time to time.
  • He shakes his head up and down to realign his hair when it covers his eyes.
  • He frequently cracks his knuckles.
Drive: Malcolm strives for a good, peaceful world. It sounds like an answer in a beauty pageant or an answer just to top off an essay. But he means it. He has seen friends get bullied, animals get kicked, people get thrown aside. He has seen them all, and he wants to stop the violence.
Public Image: One would think he’s part of the military. He constantly toes the line between someone who is unaffected by seemingly everything, and someone who has a stick up their ass. He takes safety rather seriously.
How They Can Grow: Malcolm could gain more confidence in himself. He thinks his self worth comes from his capabilities, and nothing more. He could also learn to open up to people some more and avoid being misunderstood.
Tidbits & Facts:
  1. He keeps a small pack of Mentos in his pocket wherever he goes. He doesn't eat them all the time, they're meant to keep him focused.
  2. After breakfast, he takes Vitamin C before he starts his day.
  3. His favorite go-to snack is a cheeseburger. It's extremely indulgent.
  4. He spends at least an hour everyday exercising. Whether it be jogging while on his shift or doing push ups as he waits for everyone else to wake up.
  5. He can whistle very well.
  6. He used to be a coast guard, back in his mid-20s, and he still remembers his training.
  7. Cats are his favorite animals. His cat would hiss at strangers but guard and snuggle up to him.
  8. His favorite color is yellow.
  9. He wanted to be a writer until one of his past employers referred him to someone hiring in a different line of job.
  10. He likes listening to Linkin Park.
Brief Background: Open minded and ambitious, Malcolm wished to write and be the voice of those who cannot be heard. He wanted to show the world what could be done to help others. While working, he wrote a few articles on the side for local newspapers. Donated to shelters and the needy. He was constantly busy and did what he can. Eventually, his vocation reached the attention of his boss. His superior heard what Malcolm did and continues to do. His role in his then current company was important, but his boss still decided to let Malcolm know of another possible job he could take, outside the company. And thus, he realized he could he doing something more than being the voice of the voiceless. He could be their ears, eyes, and hands.
Inter-character Relationships: To be decided.
What's in Your Character's Suitcase?: Packs of candies, vitamin supplements, extra clothes (including sandals, boots, and two rain coats), compressible Umbrella (It's a little less than a foot tall when completely folded), a whistle, a pair of sunglasses, two caps, a box of matches, rechargeable flashlight, 3-in-1 lotion-sunscreen-insect repellant, personal walkie talkie, and his phone charger.
How Has Your Character Decorated Their Cabin?: He has not put any decorations whatsoever. Pictures of his loved ones are always kept in his wallet.

(currently in-progress!)

Name: Amanda Pietro.
Age: 24.
Role: Counselor.
Gender/Pronouns: "Girl, but like, casual about it." (She/they, prefers she/her most of the time)
Sexuality: "Uh... girls? Girls are nice." (Lesbian, maybe? Or pansexual? She's still kinda figuring that out. Definitely into girls though.)
Appearance:
Body Mods/Scars:

  • Has a few scars dotted around her hands and arms, including a shallow furrow down one forearm and her left pointer finger missing its tip.
  • There's occasional hints of another scar on her neck, but it's always covered by a scarf or some other type of clothing.
  • Has a pair of black ring piercings in her left eyebrow, another on the right side of her bottom lip, and a pair of fancy, dangly skull earrings that she basically never takes off.
Clothing Style: Elaborate, goth-y, and wildly impractical to wear at a wilderness camp. She somehow manages fine, and doesn't really seem to mind her clothes getting torn and stained with mud, grass, and other stuff, despite the fact that most of her clothes obviously cost a lot of money.
Brief Personality:
Fears:
(2+, please!)
Hobbies:
Habits:
Drive:
(what motivates them?)
Public Image: (what are they known for, if anything?)
How They Can Grow: (How can your character improve themselves over the course of the group? Learning to trust people? Realizing something about themselves? Etc)
Tidbits & Facts:
  1. Thinks Vices And Virtues is the best Panic! At The Disco album and will fight you over that.
  2. Absolutely cannot stand the sight of dead animals.
  3. Her favorite color is black, obviously. Her second-favorite color is purple.
  4. Her enthusiasm for swimming is matched only by her lack of ability to swim.

Brief Background:
Inter-character Relationships:
TBD
What's in Your Character's Suitcase?: (its like a what's in their wallet question; what have they brought with them to the camp?)
How Has Your Character Decorated Their Cabin?: (Each of the staff have a cabin: the cook is in the main building, the arts and crafts supervisor is in the craft building, the groundskeeper has their own cabin, etc. How have they decorated their space?)

Name: Magnolia (Mags/Maggie) Hedrow
Age: 30
Role: Arts and Crafts Supervisor
Gender/Pronouns: non-binary femme, she/they
Sexuality: bisexual
Appearance: Magnolia is around 5’6”, with wavy shoulder length brown hair, half of which has been dyed a peach-orange color. They have hazel eyes and a smattering of freckles, and wears a set of gold wire-frame glasses when she’s not using contacts.
Body Mods/Scars:
  • Triple lobe piercings in each ear
  • Tattoo sleeve of various plants/flowers in a watercolor style on her right arm.
Clothing Style: Public School Art Teacher. Her favorite outfits at when working at camps usually consists of a set of short overalls, birkenstocks, and one of her many shirts that has fallen victim to one art project or another. She also is nearly always wearing fun, large earrings.

Brief Personality: Magnolia is a very bubbly, upbeat person. She tries to be the optimist in every situation, but also has the knowledge to know when this outlook might not be the best to present. The downside of this is that she only really is able to treat more serious situations in the context of talking to children and solving their issues, not so much adults.
Fears:
  • Fear of the Dark
  • Fear of Deep Water
  • Fear of Horses
Hobbies: If it’s something artistic, they’ve probably done it. Currently she presses flowers and leaves, crochets, and paints.
Habits: Shaking her head slightly to get their earrings to move around and make noise. This is both to make sure she hasn’t lost them and also because she likes the sound they make. Tapping the fingers on her hand to their corresponding thumb. Biting on the ends of pens.
Drive: To help kids (and adults!) learn how to express themselves creatively and grow an appreciation for art. Also, at camp, there’s a secondary bullet point for showing campers that nature is full of art and creativity in many, many ways.
Public Image: She’s known for being a caring and understanding person, and for having her classroom door open to anyone at any time, no excuses. Mags is also known in her hometown for tackling an escaped lobster during the Lobster Festival without a second thought when they were a teenager.
How They Can Grow:
Mags can learn that optimism isn’t always the best solution to everything, and that other adults don’t necessarily enjoy being talked to in a way that could be percieved as for a child either.

Tidbits & Facts:
  • Doesn’t know how to swim.
  • she has a ball python named Britney that they adopted almost 15 years ago.
  • loves the tactile motions of film photography, hates that most of the process has to be done in the dark.
  • allergic to kiwis. Will eat them anyway even though they’re “spicy”
  • distaste for elf on the shelf dolls, finds them unnerving.
  • still uses an iPod nano for music. She knows the exact order every album is in and can navigate finding each one with scary accuracy.
  • addicted to tea. Has a whole journal dedicated to recording the tea they’ve tried and her thoughts on each one.
  • has a staff shirt that says “Official Providence Lobster Fest Lobster Wrangling Team”
  • always carries around washable markers in case kids (or they themself) want to cover her other arm with “tattoos”
  • her apartment, classroom, and eventually cabin is covered in art and projects that kids forgot or didn’t want to keep/take home for one reason or another.
  • knows how to play trombone and ukulele
  • Can read Tarot, likes to use them for inspiration for projects more than actual readings.

Brief Background: Magnolia grew up in the town of Providence, Maine and has worked as the art teacher for the closest public school for going on 8 years now. Their childhood was relatively normal for the town, though her parents often tried to make sure that she and her older brother had experiences outside of town as well. Her brother, who’s 5 years older than her, attended the original Sunnyshores the year before it burnt down, and the pair of them attended the Hawk Mountain Youth Camp for years afterward. These experiences fostered a love for nature and the outdoors in Maggie, and she went on to working as a standard counselor (and then eventually the dedicated arts counselor) for the other local camp during her summers off from school and from work. As Hawk Mountain recently closed it’s doors just as Sunnyshores reopened, Maggie figured they might as well apply for the position at this camp as well.
Inter-character Relationships: Incoming
What's in Your Character's Suitcase?: small rechargeable lantern, a couple of journals, Winsor & Newton Professional Watercolor Field Kit, tiny easel, small duck squishmallow, a box or two of hair dye, a box of hair bleach, Lord of the Rings Trilogy, IPod Nano, Tarot Deck, A camp kettle and a large variety of tea, state guide books on various flora, many fun earrings.
How Has Your Character Decorated Their Cabin?: Magnolia has little lines of string lights across most walls of the building, including in her separate room. There’s a rules poster hanging on one of the walls, an RA-esque nameplate on their door, and her duck squishmallow sits on the bed. Most of the other wall space has been left so that campers can display their work throughout the camp session.
