Lucy smiled, it was the first day of school, or at least for her. Her family had been moving around alot, and this was just another stop. She was told this house would be the last, but her family would always pick up and move again. She wasn't upset about it, she was just use to it. Lucy stood in front of class, she was actually excited! This school seem different from the rest. They seemed all so happy, so welcoming. The teacher stood next to her. She coughed, attempting to quiet the class. "Kids, settle down! We have a new student. This is Lucy, I expect everyone to be welcoming to her." The class got quiet, as Lucy felt the staring of the other students. "Hello, Im am excited to meet all of you." Lucy smiled a bit. The teacher voice went quiet, as she talked were only she could hear. "Im very happy to see you here, I have heard lots of good things about you. I'm Mrs. Kinnian," Lucy nodded "Well im excited to be here." The teacher smile grew "You even have manners! Okay well your seat is up front. The empty one next to that boy. His name is Sam, U-um he is very shy...he keeps to himself..." Lucy went, and sat down quickly eyeing the guy. He looked sad, frustrated. It made Lucy feel terrible inside, she was going to attempt to make friends with him, even if it killed her.

Sam was sitting in his desk as he stared at his desk. He herd that there was a new student but he didn't even bother to look up from his seat. He just kept his eyes on his desk as he kept to his thoughts. He herd that the teacher put the new girl in the empty seat next to him but he still didn't look up.

Lucy smiled when she had a great idea. She took a piece of paper, and drew a happy little picture of a bear. She was actually trying to draw, but it looked like something a 3 year old would draw. She smiled once again, sending the paper over onto his desk. She kept smiling as she waited for his response.

Sam was looking at his desk as a piece of paper landed on his desk. He grabbed the piece of paper and looked at it. Sam didn't know what to make of it, it was just a bad drawing. He flipped it over in its blank side and continued to look at his desk, ignoring the person who gave the drawing to him.

Lucy frowned, and attempted to get his attention. "Hey did, you like my drawing?" Her smile was huge, she just wanted to see his smile. "Whats a matter?" she then got a small stuff animal, it was the size of a index finger. It was just her good luck charm, she the put that on his desk. "Isnt this unicorn cute? Hold on I know what always cheers me up, she then pulled out her lunch bag, and out comes a cupcake. "Here I made it, I should be pretty good, do you want it?"

Sam kept looking at the his desk. When she asked him what was wrong he clenched his teeth a bit and looked the other way. He didn't look at her when she putted the little toy on his desk or offered a cupcake. A girl next to Lucy saw what she was doing. She tapped her shoulder to get her attention. "Hey, I don't think it's a good idea to bother him." She whispered to Lucy.

Lucy, frowned when he looked away. The girl tapped on her shoulder, "Why not, he is unhappy! I dont like to see sad people." She looked back at him, then she looked back at the girl "Who is he, Do you know whats a matter with him?"

The girl looked at Sam and then back at Lucy and sighed. "His father died in a horrible car accident. He was really attached to him so he's really taking it hard. It's such a shame too, he use to be so uplifting, now he's... This." Said the girl. Sam kept looking at his desk, trying to remember the good times before everything happened.
