So because you're a Courtier, Courtier's arts raise balanced, neutral essence. There at the bottom, you're spending 14 Destiny on those, so you have 14 Cultivation. You start with 10m, and each new mote takes as much cultivation as the current size of your pool. So 14d gets you up to 11m with 4 left over.


Transcendent Desert Creature kung-fu is an Infernal style. All kung-fu styles, including your starting internal, cost 10d to know the fundamentals of the style, +x for a level-x technique, which makes this 15 Cultivation toward Infernal essence. Different scale, here. No freebies; first one costs 10. Then each after that costs 10x your total. So the second mote costs another 10, then 20, etc. 15 gives you 1m Infernal, with 5 toward the next. So your unarmored Chi Threshold is 12, the sum of all your mote pools. With your heavy jacket, against physical injury, that's +5=17. So your injury tiers go 0, 17, 34, 51.
