"It is the year 2133 and with crushing of the 2129 Martian rebellion humanity has finally reached the point where faster than light travel is possible. What the first human explorers find is a galaxy littered with dead civilizations and derelict spacecraft left to float adrift in the endless void. To explore these sights are squads of mercenary-adventurers known as Deadnauts. The first batch of Deadnauts was sent out in the year 2141 and the few who returned came back with tales of technological riches and horrors beyond human imagination. Now in 2153 a second wave of Deadnauts is set to begin their voyage into the unknown of space and the search for potential recruits are going on across the solar system.
Life expectancy is short and the work is thankless so Deadnauts tend to be exiles, prisoners, ex-military, and otherwise unwanted members of society hoping to strike it rich in the very lucrative industry of space exploration and exploitation. Hazards in these abandoned vessels include alien infestations, active security systems, failing hull integrity, and your own co-workers. The vessel you will be stationed on will be cramped, experimental, and full off possible psychotic individuals. It will include all the comforts of home such as kitchens, personal bedrooms, shooting ranges, and even a rec room (no escape pods). Shuttles of supplies and additional recruits come on a regular basis but once you leave the confines of our solar system you are not coming back until the job is done.
Your job usually revolves around breaching a vessel and looting it for every bit of technology and useful material you find. Lately more and more employers have put emphasis on recovering any sort of record of what happened to the ship’s crew and information about their civilizations. You have been selected as a potential recruit for the next expedition have been sent to the nearest Federal Earth Council (F.E.C) interview chamber for processing."
Would anyone be interested in a RP revolving around this theme? Nothing to do for the winter so I would be happy to run this if it attracts enough interest.
