A Broken Frame
Three long years ago, within the Big Apple, an explosion like none other before it rocked the entire city. The initial explosion killed many, but those that died would later be considered the "lucky". Afterwords even more began to get sick as a plague spread throughout all the city.
The plague killed most that it infected, mutated some to the point they would be refereed to as nothing but the "Corrupted", and finally to some it forever changed them in ways the world would forever be recovering from.
The Repercussions of the blast gave those that managed to survive the plague un-corrupted powers beyond their wildest imaginations.

Within present day New York, three years after the blast, things are finally trying to get back to normal once more. The majority of the city has been repaired from the initial blast, save for the "swamps" where most of the corrupted stay.
The United States government, in order to deal with these now super-powered humans they know called "conduits", created the Department of Unified Protection (DUP). As well, factions rose up all throughout the city as Conduits rose to power and joined together under a common goal.

The Department of Unified Protection: Formed by the United States government, their sole purpose is to deal with the "Bio-Terrorist" threat by any means necessary. Whether this means capturing them and locking them up or putting them out of their misery, the DUP army is large and extremely well-funded.
The Reapers: A shadowy group of Conduits known for their aggressive tendencies. In the most recent weeks little has been heard from them as Reaper bodies scattered the streets of most of the districts. It was said that most of them were wiped out by another unknown faction. However, rumors are that there are a few of them still alive that hold grudges...
The Militia: A rather large group made solely out of humans that were unaffected by the plague and thus not changed, their sole goal is the eradication of all Conduits and Corrupted. They have no shortage of numbers due to there being plenty of humans that hold grudges against Conduits, blaming them for the blast that killed their families and forever changed New York.
The Dust Men: Conduits, known for their telekinetic powers. They banded together, using their powers to create great things such as homes for other's to live in.
First Sons: A mysterious group that not much is known about. For whatever reason they have a very large interest in Conduits and have been seen capturing several of them that were never seen from again.
Conduit Mercenaries: A somewhat large group of conduits that share ice powers that hire themselves out for a price. For them, everything has a price, and there is nothing they will not do for said price.
The Corrupted: Those forever changed by the plague past the point of no return. They've been mutated to just shells of their former selves with nothing left but rage that causes them to attack whatever they see. The majority of them are contained within the "Swamps".
The Sires: Little is known of these conduits other than the trail of dead they leave in their path. Everywhere they go is left the mutilated and drained bodies of those that get in their way. From the bite-marks upon most victims it is assumed that they are vampire like in some aspects.
Speculation has been made that their leader as a man that carries what must be an extremely large blade. However, this is still only speculation, as nobody has seen him. Only the dead he leaves behind cut into tiny chunks without any blood.
Those that do manage to see the sires and survive remark about their Crimson eyes and the fanged skull tattoo they have cut into their forehead.
The Shadows: An army made out of the "Shadows" of people that are constantly growing as is the death toll in their past. Their leader, supposedly a shadow himself, is able to rip the shadows out of people or conduits and add them to his army.
Freedom Fighters: A small group made solely out of conduits supposedly dedicated to nothing less than justice for all conduits and humans. Their leader, by the name of Felix, is best known for recently being in the news for snapping and going on a killing spree.

The Neon District: One of the largest districts, it was once known for being the homeland for the Reapers. However, after supposedly all of them have been wiped out, there are claims that the Sires are soon to be taking control of the district in their place.
The Cardboard District: One of the districts most populated and kind to human life, the Dust Men control this area. Shelters are built to house those that need them, though the quality of said homes comes into question.
The Historic District: One of the oldest districts within New York, this is where some claim to have seen the First son's hanging around.
The Industrial District: Filled with plenty of empty warehouses, this is the district filled with the most factions. So far it is known that the Militia, Conduit Mercenaries, the Shadows, and Freedom Fighters all reside here. Death is common for all those humans that dare to cross the streets and get caught in the crossfire.
The Capital District: This district is under complete and utter control by the DUP, as it is their headquarters within New York. The DUP capital building can be seen towering over all the other districts.
The Swamps: The most destroyed locations of New York that were never repaired. This is where all the corrupted reside and where no dare to go. Not even the DUP's mighty forces reach these badlands.
