Immortal Ways, Unnaturally

How It All Began

At the beginning of time, there existed a single congregation. They considered themselves an average people. They tended to the universe as its entirety was their home, even in its deepest, darkest stretches. They thought of themselves as the caretakers of this young universe and assigned one another jobs in order to take care of the natural order of things. The people who took on those jobs were content with their lives. Things were okay for awhile... and for them, "awhile" is trillions of years.

However, as the universe began to grow older, so did the amount of space these caretakers had to take care of. They had to designate more people to more jobs, with every single person doing more work. The opinion of these people started to divide. Half of the people thought that they didn't need to question their traditions, they should just keep doing the work as they always have. The other half were wondering why their jobs were getting more difficult just to "take care" of every single speck of the cosmos. They can't do that all! There's no point! They complained even more: It's always about work. Work, work, work! Why can't they have time to themselves? They wanted to do things... they just didn't really know what they wanted to do because they've never had time to do anything else other than work. They wanted to be more than just their work. The universe doesn't need to be babied.

How selfish, the other side thought! They have to take care of the universe. Everyone has to. Neglect is when bad things happen. Conflict between the congregation began to brew. There were people who stood their ground and even went so far as to stop working altogether. The other group exasperated their worries, but there had never been any conflict before. What were they supposed to do? Hurting their fellow brethren never occurred to them. Even the idea of hurting another person was... incomprehensible! The pacifistic half continued to do their work, even if the other half did not.

The conflict eventually escalated to separation. One half of the congregation was perfectly fine doing the job that they had been doing since the beginning of time. The other half wanted to strike out on their own. They wanted to do things. It's not that they hated work; they just wanted something more than the work that was given to them. They wanted to do work for themselves. If they weren't happy doing the job, why should they do it? That would just cause even more problems. So the two halves split. When they did, the two groups realized that they needed to differentiate themselves between those who were the universes' caretakers and those who wanted to try and hopefully make something of themselves.

One side called themselves Heaven. The other side named themselves Hell.

The difference in opinion created something out of these former shepherds of the universe. Being such godly creatures, their conflict created something... something very bad. There was so little of it that no one really paid any mind to it. The conflict between Heaven and Hell would continue. There were periods of war. There were periods of peace. No matter what, skip forward a hundreds of billions of years and... Now we've got a problem. That thing, that little thing that nobody paid attention to began to rear it's ugly head in the universe.

Now there's a third type of godly creature running around. Created from the enmity of the denizens of Heaven and Hell, they are monstrous creatures who devour things upon every level of the universe. They spread quickly, feeding upon the enmity created by conflict. If they can't find it, they will endlessly search for it. Some of them are so cunning, they know how to cause it.

None of this was truly noticeable until these creatures became so powerful in the supernatural side of the universe, they started to appear in the physical side of it as well. What are humans supposed to do when these grotesque creatures find places like Earth as an delectable trove of conflict? Heaven. You've got a problem.

Heaven points the finger at Hell. "This is exactly what we were talking about a bazillion years ago!" Heaven can't do anything by itself. They're researchers, organizers, and caretakers. They take action through bureaucracy and community. They don't really consider themselves a kingdom of warriors. How are they supposed to fight these monsters? They're too weak.

Hell responds with, "You didn't tell us this was going to happen. This is your fault, too!" Hell can't really do anything either. The original separatists neglected their duties to the universe. The denizens of Hell haven't done their original job is SO long... they don't know how to do it. They don't know anything about it! It's never crossed their mind because demons are so focused upon their own interests. There are laws and there aren't, but Hell having to actually organize and do something that isn't about them? What does that even mean?!

So, Heaven. Hell. What are you going to do now? They shouldn't worry too much. They still have the tools from all of those years ago... the same ones that they were using as shepherds of the universe. However, after all of these eons, they've lost all of their power. They're these weird stones. They look like gems. Could angels of Heaven and demons of Hell still use these tools that once tended the cosmos? The original knowledge has been lost. They'll just have to do their best to get them to "work" again.

They better start now. Heaven and Hell need to work together. After all, it was originally their fault.

Let's skip a little more... things have changed. A lot.

Immortal Ways, Unnaturally

Heaven and Hell ended up with their own distinct, creative ways to get their olden shepherding tools to work and reapply that knowledge to their everyday lives. Just like humans do whenever they discover new technology. But where are our two organizations now? And how do normal people like us fit into this? Let's start with the universe itself.

How the Universe Works

<p><a href="<fileStore.core_Attachment>/monthly_2015_05/57a8c271be43b_MortalWaysUnnaturallyPic1.png.6fe46959ebc1bb6547d867fc85fa0bf5.png" class="ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image"><img data-fileid="52442" src="<fileStore.core_Attachment>/monthly_2015_05/57a8c271be43b_MortalWaysUnnaturallyPic1.png.6fe46959ebc1bb6547d867fc85fa0bf5.png" class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" alt=""></a></p>

This simple diagram explains everything in a nutshell. The first simple rule: The universe is split into layers. Not side by side and not even above or below one another. What does that mean exactly? We all live in the exact same universe— the exact same space. You'll get a better idea as I explain to this you.

The physical realm is designated as layer #1. This is where people like us live. We live in a realm with physical laws. Matter. Mass. Gravity. Energy. We are these things. Simple enough.

The supernatural realm (or ethereal) is designated as layer #2. We would usually call this the "after world", but it really isn't. This is the layer of the universe where the denizens of Heaven and Hell live. Naturally, we can't see them. Why? First of all, they aren't from the physical realm. We are; we can only see what is possible in the physical realm, not what's beyond it.

This goes hand in hand with the second simple rule: Layers in the plane above are inclusive to the planes below. The supernatural realm includes the physical realm, but the physical realm does NOT include the supernatural realm. This means that angels and demons can always see what we're doing, but we can't see what they're doing. Isn't that fair? There could be a demon or an angel reading this with you as you are reading it and you wouldn't even know!

What do the actual shells "between the layers" represent in the pictures, then? This is the third simple rule: Entities can travel in the same layer they were born in and layers below it. As humans born in the physical realm, we are bound to it. It is absolutely impossible for us to travel to the supernatural realm. How would you breathe? There's no such thing as oxygen there! And we need to eat. What are you going to eat if there's nothing physical in the supernatural realm? We're kind of sad in the physical realm, because there's no layer lower than us.

Supernatural entities like angels and demons can come down to the physical realm all they want, but there's a little bit of a problem there. This introduces the fourth simple rule: Entities from different planes cannot interact with each other. We can't touch them. They can't touch us. We can't hear them. They can't hear us.

Souls exist... and they kinda don't. Why? Because they're from layer #3. I suppose you could call this the soul realm, soul plane, or whatever you want to call it. Souls are special. We all have one, but we can't "feel" it. Can't "sense" it. Even angels and demons can't feel or sense their own soul, and they have a soul just as much as we do!

So what does that say about layer #4? Well... no one knows. It lies outside existence? I dunno.

Let's go back to souls. Like I wrote before, souls are special. When I say special, I'm saying really, REALLY special. For some reason, souls can break some of the four simple rules. If you ever thought it was weird people talking of their own spirit even though we can't see it, just wait until you see souls in the supernatural realm. You can see them there and you can even interact with them, but you can't really "do" anything with them. Because they are somewhat visible in the supernatural realm, demons and angels can see in plain sight that they're going somewhere.

Where are they going?

The Major Current and The Minor Current

These two phenomena are amazing and visible, yet so elusive. Supernatural researchers know these souls are traveling in a cycle. This is a sacred cycle. It is so sacred that even the worst demon knows that it should never be touched, if it can even be stopped. What happens if the cycle of souls get interrupted or stops? It's never happened before. Some even think this is the very thing that the universe itself is running on.

There's one stream of souls that goes up into the cosmos and there's another one that's going down the cosmos. The one going up is called the Major Current and is the "big brother" of the two currents. As it is appropriately named, the Major Current is comparatively huge compared to the Minor Current. Whatever the Major Current is doing, it's carrying souls up into what many theorize is back to the realm where souls rightfully belong.

The Minor Current is doing the exact opposite. It's carrying souls out of what many theorize is the realm where souls rightfully belong.

All of this begs a question. If there's a supernatural realm,

What Happens After You Die?

First of all, you're not actually dead. It's just your physical vessel expiring. Think of your soul as your "true self". It's just you going through another phase of something that the soul has been doing for... forever. And you truly do go through another phase of "life". The soul has been away from its home for a long time, so it naturally wants to go home. It joins the souls that make up the Major Current and it makes it back up all of the way to the realm where it belongs. They can go as deep as the physical realm, stay there for sometimes very short and sometimes very long periods of time.

Remember before, when I said that souls are special? Souls can get tired. Traveling between the soul plane, going back down to the supernatural and physical realms, then going back home? That must take a lot of energy. Though all souls will eventually return to the realm where they belong, it happens occasionally enough where souls don't always make back home upon the first trip. Sometimes they only get half way there before they get tired. Then, they usually end up having to re-manifest as the very you that you were when your physical vessel died in the physical realm... and you reappear "dead" in the supernatural realm. There is where the confusion of the after life starts.

Congratulations. Your soul has gone through a process called transmogrification. You are now a supernatural being.

You'll eventually get picked up by a denizen of Heaven or Hell. That can't be good! You wanna go to Heaven, right?! So you go with the angels, right?! No, silly. Heaven and Hell have changed a LOT. Or maybe, they were never like our conventional versions of them. And even if they were like that at one point in time, they don't do that anymore. Times have changed. There are bigger fish to fry, like their current problem with the monsters from the void.

Believe it or not, you get to choose. Do you want to be an angel who lives in Heaven? Do you want to be a demon who lives in Hell? Or do you want to stay "human"?

How does Hell work?

Did you know that Hell has been charging you ever since you started your life in the physical realm? Did you also know that when you die and more often than not, your soul doesn't make its first trip back to the realm of souls, they expect you to pay them back? Welcome to Hell, where you've been charged for everything. They've been keeping tabs on you since your first second out of the womb! And there's interest, so the longer you live, the more you have to pay up. You are brought to the capital of Hell, Pandemonium itself. There are a lot of depictions of Hell. Some say it's a land of burning anger and volcanoes where nothing grows. Some say it's a land where there's nothing but torture that awaits. They used to do that, but that's old fashioned and soooo last apocalypse. Nowadays, it's a metropolis.

The first place you'll be brought to is the Debt Department. Hell charges you according to what they think how much conflict you've caused while you've been alive. You go to court. You're told what you owe. And now it's up to you on how to find out how to pay it all back. They even charge you based on how you die. Were you murdered? You owe Hell more money for causing grief for the people that care about you. Murdered someone? You owe fifty million HL (Hell, their currency). Commited suicide? Make that five hundred million HL. The system is really designed to get Hell as rich as possible.

Every deed that ends conflict and doesn't cause more to appear will reduce how much HL you owe Hell. Likewise, every deed that causes more conflict significantly increases how much you owe. There are people out where who owe so much, good luck ever paying it off. There are also people out there who owe so little, you'll probably spend ten minutes in the courthouse and you're home free. No matter what, everyone owes something.

So what happens if you don't pay your debt? Hell doesn't allow you to go back to the Major Current and reincarnate properly. They can and will restrict your ability to do so, or more like your soul's ability to do so. The only people who have money are other people who are also paying off their debt to Hell. And why would they share their money with you and they're trying to pay off their debts? The only people who aren't are the demons themselves. Almost all of the time, they will be your employers.

You don't have to work your butt off for the rest of the time you're stuck in debt with Hell, though. Hell gives you options. Not very good options, but they're options! How would like to join the fight against the monsters? You totally can! People usually do this, because it's the easier way to get out of debt. It'll still take a long time, but you get a lot bonuses. For one, you have to become a Demon yourself. You can't fight them in your weakling human body. You're crazy! You'll die a second time— the monsters will eat your soul. No one wants that.

Who are the Demons?

Is being a Demon bad? Who are they exactly? They are exactly who they are: denizens of Hell. Nothing more, nothing less. But man, do they get perks.

First of all, as citizens of Hell, interest stops accumulating on their debts and you're put on an employment plan that slowly pays your debt within a time frame that you find desirable. This doesn't even mean much either, because even if you pay off your debt, it doesn't mean that you have to go and reincarnate. You can stay a demon in Hell for as long as you want, even more so after you've finished paying off your debt. The longer you stay after paying off your debt, the better it becomes for you, because your debt balance starts going into the negative. That means Hell owes YOU, and you can use that as leverage to get even better perks. Don't expect to revolutionize Hell with only money, though. They make sure that doesn't happen.

You won't stay human for long if you work in Hell. Eventually your soul decides it needs to transmogrify again to fit the current situation. It's easier to do so because the supernatural realm is significantly closer to the realm where souls reside. The environment around you is affecting your second transmogrification as well. You're surrounded by Demons, so you will eventually turn into one whether you want to or not. You'll know the process is almost complete as your once-human skin starts cracking like an egg and your "new self" is born underneath. At this point, most people just decide to enlist in Hell's monster slaying service.

Every demon goes to fight the monsters if they're ever around. It's a career for many. Pay your debt to Hell by punching heads in and kicking ass? Who doesn't want that? Remember those shepherd tools from so long ago? Over the many years, Hell had devised a few crafty ways to turn these jewels into sources of power for their citizens to use. They're called Malice Stones, tools specially tailored to handle "conflict". Every Demon gets one. How do they work? First of all, you get them implanted directly into your body. It becomes part of you. It's like a giant shard of crystal was stabbed into your body and it got stuck. That kind of depends though. You can get it carved and chiseled like a fancy diamond in your chest or get them in multiple pieces if you wanted. Demons consider it very fashionable and stylish.

There are a few side effects for becoming a Demon. First of all, you have to eat. Demons are very high-energy, aggresive creatures. They're one of the few supernatural collective species that need to eat. There are many ways to solve this. Demons can eat other Demons, although that's kind of discouraged nowadays. Then, Demons can eat the monsters themselves because they're made of conflict, which the Malice Stone can turn into energy. By extension, Demons can eat conflict before the monsters can get to it, thanks to the Malice Stone. You can also buy food, just like the average person does. Of course, you'll need HL for that, which cuts into your what you're paying for debt.

Now that you've got your demonhood and your Malice Stone, you've got several new perks. The Malice Stone is a very interesting tool with a huge multitude of functions. Number one, the Malice Stone lets you pick any appearance you desire that can change at any point in time if one desires. Demons really don't care what you look like at all. They're quite accommodating. Choose away. Number two, the Malice Stone makes Demons significantly stronger than they already are. Demons are already strong. Number three, Malice Stones are their own miniature dimension. A Demon can "enter" their own Malice Stone, almost like a personal haven. Their real body petrifies into indestructible material while a Demon can enjoy peace of mind. Number four, since the Malice Stone acts as its own mini dimension of sorts, every Demon can use their own Malice Stone for storage. You can store your whole house in there, if you wanted.

While the Malice Stone is definitely one of Hell's greatest works, it has some interesting side effects. Hell used to think it was okay leaving the Malice Stones as they originally were, but their very curious and self-absorbed denizens kept finding ways to abuse the poor stones. Therefore, whenever a new "exploit" is found, Hell keeps having to finds ways to turn the negative things about the Malice Stone into positive things. While Malice Stones are cool, the technology isn't perfect.

The Malice Stone sucks up the "conflict" created by the Demons it's wedged into. The takeaway: If a Demon consumes too much negative energy or "conflict" before the stone can go through and cleanse the negative energy properly, the Malice Stone can't contain it all and it ends up with enmity in excess. This is a bad situation. Back in the days, an overspilling Malice Stone caused demons go through massive mood swings and uncontrollable behavior. Essentially, demons lost their sanity. To combat this, Hell fine tuned the Malice Stones such that, while it amplifies a Demon's power, it also suppresses it for clean, even performance.

Nowadays, Demons can also manually cause the Malice Stone to consume the negative energy in chunks by causing it to do nifty things at a demon's convenience. What kind of conveniences? Want to stay fed for the day? It'll only cost you a little negative energy. Want to heal your wounds? It'll cost a little more. Want to heal your friends? It'll cost a little more. Want to shut down the monsters attacking you? Just a little bit more. There are so many convertible functions, it's really only limited to a Demon's creativity. Hell WANTS their denizens to use the damn things so Heaven will stop referring to "that one time you didn't to listen to us". There are demons out there who live entirely off of their Malice Stone. It is that convenient.

But there's something that every Demon loves. That feel-good rush of absolute power. Malice Stones can provide this too, through a Demon's true form. Remember how a Malice Stone suppresses and amplifies a Demon's power as a sort of moderation? If the Malice Stone hits a certain threshold, in order to self-regulate and preserve a Demon's sanity, the Malice Stone automatically turns all of that negative energy into pure power that goes rushing into a Demon's body. This magnifies their strength several thousand times. And it feels good. Some Demons get addicted to it.

Are there problems here? Yes. Once a Malice Stone hits override, it won't stop pumping power into its host until it's energy reserves have gone completely dry. That means if you planned to save all of that energy to stay fed for weeks, well... you just lost it all. All of that conflict stored in the stone also turns a Demon into a hybridized monster from the void. Heaven has very effective weapons that hurt only the monsters from the void. You just turned into one of them for a good chuck of time. Better watch out.

How does Heaven work?

Heaven is not a paradise where you get to live the rest of your life in peace. You still have to work. Hell has the brawn to get things done. Heaven has the technology and resources to pinpoint where work needs to get done and how to get it done as effectively and efficiently as possible. Angels and Demons work hand-in-hand to control the monster situation they should've continued doing eons ago. Most are paired together because Heaven and Hell play upon each other's strengths very well.

Whereas denizens of Hell get to strong arm monsters into submission, Heaven is about relaying information. Where are they? How do they behave? Where do they gather? Who do they target? And how can they help the targets so the monsters don't appear in the first place? Communication is Heaven's greatest strength. Unlike Hell, you don't owe Heaven anything... although you still owe HL to the Dept Department. Don't worry about that— Heaven will pay that for you and you get to live the rest of your supernatural life without having to worry about your debt.

Over the years Heaven has been able to reverse engineer the reintegrate the old shepherding tools into their lives. This is where God comes from. God is not a person. It's the system and database that allows Heaven to operate on the intense scale that it does.

There's gotta be catches, right? The Demons get all of this cool stuff. How can Heaven do anything as super awesome as the Malice Stone? Don't worry; There are perks to being an Angel, too.

Who are the Angels?

You want to be an Angel. Prepare for a life of work. It's originally what Heaven wanted to do, isn't it?

If you're going to Heaven, be aware that things like eating and sleeping are things of the past. Angels are low energy entities, they don't need any of that. Simply being an Angel provides all of the sustenance you will ever need. Do you miss eating and sleeping? The cool thing is, you still can if you want to. You just don't need it anymore. There's an immediate drawback to that: As a low energy creature, you're weak. You can't kick monster ass by yourself, you'll need the old shepherding tools to help you do that.

The Angels have turned the old shepherding tools into a massive amount of things. They get stuff like high-tech computers with portable consoles integrated with God and work anywhere at any time, beacons of lights that can be seen from thousands of miles away, teleportation devices, and probably most of all, weapons to use against the monsters. If you like swords, energy bows, firearms, artillery, and stuff like lasers, Heaven's armory is going to be lots of fun to you. Since all of this technology was derived from something that was never intended to hurt others, you can never hurt another supernatural being with any of these weapons. The weapons are only effective against the monsters from the void. You do have to be slightly careful, though. Your demon allies can turn into hybrid void monsters. Just make sure you don't go and hurt them. Other than that, all of these weapons double as props, sparring practice, or you can huddle all of the guns together and have an exciting game of laser tag.

Heaven's technology goes farther than just weapons and computers. The Angels have done such a good job getting back into their old technology, they have created tools that allow the space around them to imitate the universe while it was still young, all of those eons ago. The Angels have dubbed this crazy-amazing phenomena as The Origin Effect, but it's known more colloquially as the Union Plane. The Union Plane puts all entities from different layers of the universe into the same "realm", allowing them all to see, affect, and contact one another. In this special field, an Angel and even someone from the physical plane would be able to fight a monster. This isn't saying that they can win, though. If you're weak to begin with, that's something that the Union Plane can't change. The Angels use this technology sparingly, however. It's still quite new; It requires a direct or ethereal link to God and it dedicates a ton of the system's resources to squeeze all of the realms into a single location.

All Angels get a pair of wings. Just like how Demons can change their appearance to anything they want, so too are Angels able to change their wings into any style or fashion they want. Want classic feathered wings? That's boring nowadays, but if you want them, fine. Peacock wings? You've got them. Insect wings? You've got 'em. Wings made of water or hard light? You can get it. Wings that look like dragon wings, stained glass windows, or lace? You can get it.

If you remember the Malice Stone, Angels can enter their miniature universes if a Demon wants them to. Entering a Demon's personal space is often a very interesting experience. One might see very silly things, like a Demon wondering whether they like ketchup or relish more or how they want to impress their girlfriend. One can also see very serious things, like a Demon wondering if their still-living spouse is doing well or the bitterness over the falling out of a friendship they once had. Angels become therapists in a way, because solving conflicts diplomatically and sensibly is their forte.

Demons can also run into situations where they eat souls on accident. This is simply a side effect of the Malice Stone consuming negative energy directly from the monsters of the void, who eat souls. Angels can help with this, thanks to God. When I wrote earlier that Angels' technology is connected to God anywhere, it really does work anywhere, even inside the personal dimension of a Demon's Malice Stone. God can transport souls stuck inside a Malice Stone back to the outside realm, but God can't pinpoint their exact location. It's up to an Angel to trudge through a Demon's thoughts and memories to find out where the lost souls have gone. The angels have discovered that lost souls tend to flock to thoughts and memories they can identify with.

But I want to stay Human?

What if you're one of those... one of those people who dare to stay "human"? Then you have no home in the supernatural world... well, you do and you don't. If you choose to stay human, where ever you landed in the supernatural realm, you have to make the pilgrimage to a special place called the Asphodel Meadows. In Greek Mythology, the Asphodel Meadows was a place where people neither good or bad were sent to after they died. Because they weren't good or bad, their lives in the afterlife were treated just like that. It was supposedly a very boring version of the afterlife.

Did I forget to mention that you have to make it there all by your weakling self? No angel or demon is allowed to help you or obstruct your progress. You have no special powers. No special privileges. Nothing. Why is it so difficult? You, as a human who wants to stay human, need to prove with your own will and determination that you can still achieve for being a weak human being. You are allowed to give up the pilgrimage at any point in time. Almost everyone tries and an exceeding number eventually give up.

Remember before, when I said that no matter what, EVERYONE has a debt to pay in Hell? If you can make the pilgrimage, you owe Hell nothing and you can reincarnate immediately. It's that golden ticket and by getting there, you sure as hell earned it! What happens when you get there? You will meet other humans just like you and you can live there as a human for as long as you want until you choose that it's time to go. You only need to make it there once, too. After you make it, you can go anywhere you want in the supernatural realm. You WILL stay human and no one can take that away from you.

What are the Monsters from the Void?

It's not a joke. The monsters from the void have bled into the physical realm. Many theorize that the monsters are residents from the 3rd layer, just like souls. There is evidence of this. First of all, just like souls, they can break the four simple rules. Even more so than souls already do. They can travel to the supernatural and physical realms. Second of all, a surprise at the time, they can interact in all realms simultaneously. They can even remove themselves from the supernatural realm or the physical realm altogether. The creatures can escape just as fast as they can attack by sheer surprise. It's pretty damn scary.

By itself, human weaponry is generally quite ineffective against the evil creatures. Remember, these creatures can exist on all levels of existence. Even if you kill their physical form, they're still alive supernaturally. If you kill them supernaturally, they're still alive physically. They need to be killed in both the supernatural and physical realm, preferably done at near the same time. Why? If one form lingers too long, they'll eventually return to the realm they were killed from.

There are two ways to permanently kill them. As stated before, the first way is to kill them in the supernatural and physical realms at around the same time. Get a Demon with a Malice Stone to eat them. Alive. Hope you like squirmy food. The monsters are made of conflict. The Malice Stone can handle it, no problem. Or vaporize them with angelic weaponry. At the same time, humanity needs to kill the creature in the physical realm. The second way is more recent, thanks to the Union Plane. Catch the monsters using The Origin Effect. There's no way they can escape, then let all hell loose and destroy the monsters for good.

Angels have been tracking their movements and behaviors for a long time, another boon to having God. For one, they like to gather at conflict hotspots. They can acquire negative energy passively to grow, and just like creatures of instinct, they will avoid encounters with anything out to kill them, if they can. As the monsters from the void grow, they become stronger and more intelligent. The monsters are even classified, based on their common behaviors.

There are six classifications of monsters: Rogues, Brutes, Parasites, Locis, Entites, and Mysts.

Rogues are generally the weakest of the monsters. God has determined that most Rogues are a low threat. They're frail, fast, and slippy little buggers. They're more like annoyances than anything truly worth killing or devouring. Their behavior patterns consist of staying hidden in the supernatural realm or in places where it's impossible to notice them in the physical realm. Most of their time is spent passively feeding off of conflict. If they're caught, their first instinct is to run away. They make an awful habit of returning to places they've been at previously, so they're easy to track. Catching and killing them is a problem unless you're someone who can catch them faster than they can notice you.

Brutes are the worrisome ones. God has determined that most Brutes are a moderate threat. These are the ones that target people and can eat their souls. They have bulkier bodies so they're a bit slow, but they're destructive because it causes more conflict. Like their namesake, these ones are pretty tough and small teams are dedicated to finding them and taking them out. There are a few boons when Brutes appear, though. They don't like each other and will often fight other Brutes, like they're claiming territory. So if there's a Brute around, that means there shouldn't be any others close by.

Parasites are exactly what they are: Monsters that attach themselves onto people and they don't even know it. They especially like people who are intensely troubled. If they stay attached to the same person for too long, they can influence that living thing's thoughts and very often make their host's problems even worse, causing more conflict for the parasite to grow even stronger. If their host dies, they'll go off and find another one. These ones are often difficult to find, because if they feel threatened, they will make their host appear "normal". If they're in danger, they might exit their host entirely and flee. God has determined that Parasites are a moderate level threat.

Locis are BIG monsters. They may not be exceptionally powerful, but their immenseness is a fact. They can grow in any array of dimensions, ranging from extremely tall to extremely wide. Their huge surface area means they can suck up conflict through a wide area. The main reason why Locis are a problem is because they can alter the thoughts of living things who live within their vicinity. Their influence isn't as strong as Parasites, but when you have a lot of people together... They're slow and even a little docile, so they don't attack unless provoked. God has determined that Locis are moderate level threats.

Entites are dangerous. They're intelligent and cunning, often devising ways to maximize conflict for themselves. Many of them are individuals performing for themselves only, while some are at the top of a hierarchy, employing other monsters from the void to do their bidding. Because of their ability to operate upon a certain level of intelligence, all Entites are treated on a case-by-case basis. No matter what, God has determined that Entites are high level threats and should never be engaged in small groups.

Mysts contain all other monsters who don't fit into any of the other five classifications. While each Myst is documented to the best of Heaven's ability, their threat level is case-by-case. A surprising number of Mysts are for all intents and purposes, harmless. A fair number of Mysts are just outright strange, as well.

This pretty much sums up what I have.

If you are interested enough and would like to see this as a roleplay, write down your interest. That's not really the point of this thread, though.

If you have any questions about what I've written down, please ask!

If you have suggestions for expanding upon this universe, write down your ideas and let's discuss it.

One of the most important things I'm missing here is... I need a plot.
