Any specific mechanics and engine in mind?

well, i am new to making games, so i know of some of the common engines, like unity, and unreal engine, and i was thinking about it being a open map one, and not stuck in one area, where you can wander the entire building, ( and it's going to be a big one )

Walking sim then? I'm not sure what happened to them and if they still live, but they were quite popular a few years back.
