I have previous roleplay experience from gaiaonline.com. I'm wondering if formats etc. are at all similar here?

The usual style of roleplay here is third person past tense written like you'd see written in a book. Size is too variable to say which is "the normal", but you can typically get away with a decently sized paragraph if you move the plot forward.
Of course, you can roleplay as you like though. There is no rule of any kind telling you how to roleplay, other than the official RPN rules (so, like, smut forbidden etc). For instance, I roleplay in detailed first person, with at least 2 solid paragraphs.

Yes.
The big differences are
- here the mods actually monitor things and if u break the rules ( ex. make an erotic content rp) they’ll probably contact you about it.
- no post layouts. This I think is more just the format of the site. It makes them hard to do.
- slightly better organization. Mostly in the search threads. You have one search section for groups and one for 1x1
- no one calls paragraph plus roleplays literate they call them detailed
Otherwise the basic style of roleplay is identical
