There's surely a lot of information on here (and I'm fairly certain I've come across some of it) but I'm too lazy to dig it up, so let me direct you to RPedia: http://rpedia.tumblr.com/
I happen to love resources, and you can find a bunch online (I mostly look around on tumblr) that'll teach you what you want to know, glossaries included for terminology. RPedia's my favorite because Dean's hilarious and he's been roleplaying for twenty years. He's covered a bunch of stuff. Someone let me know if this somehow violates the "No advertisement rule". I'm obviously not gaining anything from this, so I don't think it does?

The previously attached guide is a good resource, but I have additionally found that reading a lot of Roleplays helps also. I've picked up on a lot by just looking at how others interact.

Well, you read a roleplay! Maybe there's a RP that you are sort of interested in joining on the site. Just reading peoples' replies to one another is a great way to learn how to Roleplay.
