Hope | Sanctum Core 8.1

Disclaimer: I have written this character with the intent to eventually join a dystopian, Darker Than Black/Ghost In The Shell-ish RP. I've tried to flesh her out as much as possible while keeping in mind that the story needs to be flexible/vague enough to fit into a large range of roleplays. This was pretty difficult. Also, this is the first non-realistic/modern character I've ever made up, so please be gentle :x Now, have fun and I'm looking forward to feedback! :)

Background:

Hope was born to a poverty-stricken couple. Her father, desperately scavenging the cities for food and shelter, got killed as he caught a smalltime criminal during a robbery. A half-orphan at the age of only a year old, her mother struggled to keep the two alive, not being able to provide for either of them. Out of desperation to ensure her daughter's life, she begged a local orphanage to take her in.

What Hope's mother couldn't anticipate in her drained and outcast state was, that merely a few days later, an umbrella company would adopt several children from around the globe, especially looking for infants. Hiding behind the respectable banner of an international research juggernaut, the government granted it involvement and access to promising technology in exchange. The children would function as prototypes of a new series of cyborg-like soldiers. Some received genuine, artifical limbs, others would be injected serums that were supposed to further certain abilities, both physically and mentally. Hope, who never knew her real birthname, was one of 13 babies who would make up the eighth and last project conducted that year and received the codename "Hope". Inspired by ancient cultures and myths, the goal was to create avionic scouts and spies, able to shift a war through quick, focused and overbearing force. The project received the name "Sanctum Core", referencing the often religiously-inspired templates that the technology followed.

Hope received several implants into her neck, forhead and hair follicles, the later being installed in an attempt to hide the triggering technology somewhere an opposite-nation would not think to seek removal or research.

Her training involved rigorous survival drills, hands-on combat training, weaponry masteries and how to utilize her Santcum Core. She would go on to be one of only three participants to successfully master all of the required traits AND be able to stay healthy with the artifical components. Shortly after reaching her 19th birthday, however, she was deemed to be too personality-driven and was declined to lead any military operations. While the projectleaders contemplated how to readjust her to be more controllable and less independent, Hope suffered from a series of outbursts, leading to two casualties on the training facility. Detaining her in a high-security cell for the time being, Hope fell into a depressed state, being haunted by guilt over the death of her peers. After an unsuccessfull suicide attempt by Hope, and a newly-spawned plethora of unforseen problems with the other contestants of the project, the goverment reconsidered their opinion on the ethical leeway they had given themselves. Funding scaled back within a few days, which included an almost immediate decline of newly brought-in subjects, less backing for research and, in turn, a lack of progession. The budget cuts affected the facility too, as more and more of the safety-measures were reduced. Hope, once a disciplined and ambitious soldier, was now an extremely pessimistic, anarchy-obsessed mess, who deemed everyone around her untrustworthy. About a year after her fatal accident, she offcially requested to be released from the program. While officials considered her as far too valuable to permanently imprison her, they deemed her unsafe and, most importantly, too knowledgable to release her into the public. As the remaining staff contemplated how to proceed with her, Hope managed to escape by utilizing her Sanctum Mode and abusing the lack of high-class securiy measures. She now lives in the underground, strafing from city to city, scavenging and fighting for money to sustain herself.

Personality: Hope is obsessed with being independent. Despite harsh, military-styled drills and punishments, she never relinquished her personality. Ambitious by nature, she once thrived to become the most exceptional soldier in mankind's history. However, her hatred towards the goverment, stemming from the abuse she has experienced, has turned her bitter.

She adopted an almost nihilistic approach to life, now only fighting for her personal gain or to protect people she deems to be of good nature. Her need for self-control, a sense of justice and her feelings of vengeance towards her captors, she possesses a strong drive to punish evil. Hope specifically seeks out missions in which she can attack criminals, unethical goverment workers and the like.

Hope values loyalty, honesty and selflessness, even though she knows traits don't mean anything in the greater pictures. She has no problem abandoning her own virtues to accomplish her goals.

When confronted with a conflict by someone she does not deem evil, she tends to avoid said conflict alltogether. Despite all of her experiences and anger, she prefers harmony outside of her missions. Hope subconsciously craves companionship, friends and even loved ones but has not yet found a single person she could truely trust, which only causes her to grow more frustrated and bitter.

Powers/Weaknesses/Abilities:
Santcum Mode: Hope can set off her implants at will, being trained to control her stresslevels, which function as a trigger. In Sanctum Mode, Hope takes on an angelesque appearance. Since her body has been exposed to a plethora of experimental serums for years and during every major growth phase, she can now utilize the chemical imbalance in her blood, combined with the artifical implants throughout her body to cover her whole body with an almost impenetrable armor-layer, which resists heat, corrosion and almost every traditional weaponry. Her face, however, remains vulnerable.

Her cyborg-like hybridsuit includes functional wings that provide her the ability to levitate and and even highspeed flight, albeit the latter is only of short duration.

She is able to recognize electricity and electrical sources from a mile away through her highly sensitive eyes and hairs, which draw her towards such resources. Furthermore, she can absorb said electricity to power her Sanctum Mode, and uphold it for longer durations. Depending on how much power she is able to scrape together, she can release shockwaves out of her palms in close proximity. It comes as no surprise that her Sanctum Mode is dependent on being charged. Without sufficent power, her abilities are almost negligible, merely providing decent defense.

Weaponry and hands-on combat: Hope is extremely skillfull with every small- and mediumsized firearm. She posses above-average physical strength and can effectively defend herself in hands-on combat, being able to break bones if necessary

Mental exhaustion: As her Sanctum Mode is heavily connected to her emotional state, excessive usage OR, however it may come about, extreme punishment while in Sanctum Mode will severly distress Hope, disrupting her ability to gauge situation, utilize her skillset precisely and potentially causing her extreme panic-attacks that could potentially render her completely vulnerable.

Tunnelvision: Hope's determination has proven to backfire on here in the past. If she is dead-set on saving someone innocent or destroying a target, she can very well lose track of her surroundings, becoming reckless or careless. This is one of the reasons she had never been trusted with leading a troop into actual combat.[/imageFloat]
