It has been 50 years since Malcolm Reynolds exposed the tragedy that took place on Miranda, revealing that the Alliance was responsible for creating the Reavers. That event caused a political uproar against the Alliance but it didn't last long. The Alliance silenced the opposition and strengthened it's hold on the Verse. Now the planets on the Rim that had been out of the Alliance's reach have been taken over. Gone are the frontier moons where you could settle on a patch of land a carve out a living farming or raising livestock, and live life by your own rules. Now on those same moons, there are massive labor camps that farm resources for the Core planets. Every planet, every moon, is alliance owned and operated. If you have your boots in the dirt you are under their thumb. The only thing the Alliance didn't own --- couldn't own --  was the skies. The space between the planets, and the space beyond it.

The Reavers own the space beyond. Their numbers have increased greatly. The Alliance allowed them to grow uncheked while working to increase control of the outer planets. They used the Reavers as a fear tactic to convince the independent planets they needed more alliance presence, more intervention, and less freedom, to be safe. As far as they were concerned, the more Reavers the better. Now though, I bet they're having second thoughts. The Reavers now lurk just beyond the Rim in every possible direction: a shell of hatred, and rage, and twisted metal around the system thickening every day. Not all of the Reavers are so bad though. There is a new philosophy springing up among the Reavers and taking hold in some small clusters. It's the idea that if you pay them enough they wont kill, rape and eat you. They'll let you go. It's not quite altruism but it's a start.

To be true, the only way to be free was to own a ship and live in the space between the planets. There were still legitimate jobs to be had, though very few and far between. Still crime to be done although much harder to get away with. The real trouble was a ship was near impossible to afford. If you weren't born into a rich family amassing enough money to buy a decent ship was neigh impossible. At best, if you saved for years, you could afford some broken down piece of scrap that was hardly sky worthy. Corvin Thatcher had done just that. He'd spent every penny he'd ever had to his name to buy a rickety old Firefly from a scrap heap on Persephone . He even found someone who could help him fix her up and get her flying. Next task was to find other loss and broken souls, people desperate or dumb enough to help him crew it.

He needed heathens.

I want to get this going and have this run for a while. I love Firefly and want to do an RP that can do it justice.

Any takers?
