Pity.

It all starts with Pity.

Have you ever examined yourself... and found yourself wanting? What if you say nothing but the truth... but no one believes you?

What would you do if you knew they would believe you.

What would you do if they still refused to believe?

Tak stirred the rice, the smell of butter, soy sauce, and chicken floated up. It simmered in the wok, it was burned at the edges, and yet somehow Tak figured she'd be interested. She'd been in town a while now, and she'd claimed to love out there foods, and yet hadn't really had homemade fried rice. He stared at it, thinking about how she always liked things that were more out there, more strange, and yet she somehow managed to find something secretly wonderful. The rice was not special, he'd put effort in, sure, but chicken fried rice was easy to make. It was so simple, even his mom -who was out shopping right now- liked to make when he was sick.

Moving the wok off the heat, the steam curled up around him, and he had to pause and wipe sweat from his forehead. It was hot out, and while his headband was catching the worst of it, it was still too much for the piece of fabric. The thing probably needed a wash, but a lingering part of him didn't want to part with it when there was a chance Uwuru could see him without it. For all her crazy stories, he didn't want to let her down by admitting... it was just pretend. A fake hero who made him feel like he could ignore all the stares and mockery.

As he plated the rice up -or more accurately, dumped into bowls- he considered if he was thinking too much into this. Uwuru knew who he was and no one ever took him seriously, and honestly,it was nice to pretend. Even if they were both pretending that everything was true. Aliens weren't real, Dark Leylines were something that Tak made up when he was 14 and bullied, and yet it was a sort of magic of it's own, each pretending they were exactly who they said they were.

Tak sighed, and told himself to stop overthinking it and to just play along. This was fine.

Everything was fine.

Weaving his way into his room, where piles of half finished cosplays were strewn on the floor, right at home, Tak looked around for his girlfriend the alien.

"Uwuru-chan?" He said, even now he couldn't go without an honorific, what a coward. "Food's done! It's- ahem I mean- broiled by the flames of hell, and chickens freshly slaughtered, our rice is complete!"

Not seeing the brightly colored and asymmetrical girl amidst the pile of brightly colored and asymmetrical anime character clothing, Tak wondered if she had decided to go home instead. Wouldn't surprise him, the whole meet up was impromptu and he was so unprepared for her to see his room alone that he made up the excuse to need to cook something for her. She'd probably left.
