    Fairytale

    WELCOME BACK.

    T
he bright morning sun beamed down, casting shadows on the campus grounds. It was the first day of a new year for some and the first day back at Ever After Institute for others. The grand castle stood tall with beautiful lush green forestry surrounding it. The building spires reached the sky like fingers reaching for the heavens and the ivy-covered walls pulsated with sparkle as the sunlight hit them. The main courtyard boomed with the hustle and bustle of students talking, laughing, and yelling at others. Professors adorned in their robes and professional attire moved amongst the students, their presence commanding respect and admiration.

The atmosphere crackled with excitement as old friends reunited with hugs and laughter, while newcomers gazed wide-eyed at the beautiful castle before them. Their dreams came true as they vibrated with luck from within because they were given the opportunity to attend such a prestigious institute. Amidst the sea of faces, there was a sense of anticipation for the adventures and challenges that lay ahead. In this sacred establishment, students wouldn't only study about their destines but face what their parents did as young adults. The morning bell chimed signaling the start of the day's festivities. With a cheer that echoed through the courtyard, the students made their way to the Great Hall, where Headmaster Grimm welcomed them back to another year of wonder and enchantment, reminding them of the values that the EAI stood for - courage, kindness, knowledge, and the pursuit of following your destiny.

After the first day's activities at Ever After Institute, join Hazel Cinders, the royal daughter of Cinderella and Prince Charming, in Newkingdom at her home castle for a raging party open to both Royals and Rebels. The silver and gold-themed party will start around 5:00 PM and the dress code is casual party attire. Rumor has it that there will be something unveiled during the gathering, so be there or be square.

1:37pm - Ever After Institute

It was a sunny day on the Ever After Institute campus. Mid-March was perfect weather, as only the fairytale realm could provide. Spring was on the precipice of being sprung, and a light breeze offered a whisper of the fading winter through the warm rays from the sun. Which was sitting high in the sky as it was far past the noon hour. The students of Ever After Institute were busily attending their welcome activities; Running to and fro, between welcome speeches, friends reuniting, new students tearfully leaving their parents, or rejoicing in their taste of freedom.

A young gentleman by the name of Knox Hood was one such student, and though he was nowhere to be found participating in such activities, he was enjoying his little taste of freedom by taking a nap in his favorite oak tree on the edge of The Enchanted Forest. High on a bough, rested the young man, his hands lazily crossed on his chest. He had taken the early train from Nottingham to Ever After Institute, arriving far too early for his own taste. Wishing to take advantage of the quiet of the yet to be populated campus, Knox had a nice wander through the familiar trees he hadn’t seen since before the winter break.

This nap far exceeded even his intention, but the leaves rustled in such a soothing manner that he made up for the lost sleep this morning with his early travel. His eyes opened easily, taking a moment to adjust the afternoon sun. There was no rush as he lounged for another moment and climbed down to collect his bags, and started towards the front office for his back to school file. He passed friendly faces, a few he was sure he recognized, but couldn’t recall how, and narrowly avoided some he wasn’t interested in reacquainting with at the moment. Knox reached the front office just before they closed up for the day. As expected, his file was one of the last to be picked up, but he dodged the sure to be stern talking to from the administrator by offering a sly compliment for their sweater and a wink before turning on his heel and making his way to his dormitory.

Knox learned in his first year that the kitchen staff would be throwing out their lunch leftovers around this time of day, and has found it to be just as delicious as actually attending the welcome lunch. Not to mention, the kitchen staff were very nice people; oftentimes people who don’t get acknowledged at EAI, if not downright disrespected. Gregorio, the head chef of the kitchens greeted Knox with a smile.

“Welcome back Knox! How is your family?”
He motioned to another chef to package some leftover sandwiches and squares, plus a ripe apple with a small bruise.
“You know how it is in the winters, but it wasn’t too bad.”
Knox was digging into his backpack for a neatly wrapped cloth package, Marion’s biscuits: a regular gift to the kitchen staff to allow Knox a little wiggle room with access.
“You never forget Mr Hood. Thank you!”
Gregorio laughed.
“Please chef, Knox is just fine, you know that!”
Knox accepted the lunch leftovers, immediately taking a bite of the apple.
“Your generosity is thanks enough!”
Becoming close friends with the kitchen staff was an easy perk for an oft cash strapped Knox. The extra food also came in handy with some of his less well off friends; Mars would claim that Knox’s recipe for tuna salad was better than the school kitchen, when in fact they were the same.
Gregorio gave Knox a hearty pat on the back, and sent the young man on his way towards the dormitories.

Along his familiar walk to the dormitory building, Knox ate his apple. He held it in his mouth while ripping open his envelope full of new school year information. The package contained a multitude of things Knox was bound to never look at again. A letter from the Dean (no thanks), a list of local food spots (none as good as the real mom and pop shops worth checking out, in his personal opinion), class schedules (if he looked closer he’d see he was scheduled for 'Dragon Slaying' rather than 'Advanced Wooing', but we’ll address this another time), and other junk screaming campus pride. Finally, Knox retrieved the slip of paper with his dorm assignment:
Dorm 107
Roommate: Aurelian Rose

A wide smile split Knox’s face, as if he'd won a lottery. Aurelian Rose was a good friend
of his. Fun. artistic, outgoing, and happy to engage with his shenanigans. Not at all as Knox had expected when he first met the royal prince. Prone to calmer shenanigans than Bashi or Mars, Aurelian proved himself to be a helpful listener and a willing participant in Knox’s habit of being a little bit of a mess.

What is growing and learning without a little mess?

Knox arrived at the dorm, unlocking the door. As he stepped in, he noticed Aurelian had already begun to make himself at home, no doubt still out participating in the welcome back activities. Perhaps he’d be willing to loan Knox a shirt for Hazel’s party tonight. Until Aurelian was to arrive back to the dorm, Knox decided to start to unpack his bags in his room, turning on some of his favorite upbeat songs on his speaker.

3:28 pm - Dormitory Hallway

Knox walked down the dormitory hallway on one of the upper floors. Aurelian, like the stylish and wonderful friend he is, had loaned Knox a modest button up short sleeve shirt with gold and black over it. Hazel had set a theme of Silver and Gold for the party, and unsurprisingly, Knox had very little that fit the theme. The only exception was a thin gold chain that his father, the famed Robin Hood, gifted the young man. He wore this chain around his neck everyday, seldomly taking it off, if ever.

It was probably the back to school energy, but Knox was excited to attend a party this evening. Work was hard in Nottingham, and it was nice to be able to stretch out as his own man while at Ever After Institute (the school aspect notwithstanding). An energy he was sure to have to share with his friend and confidante, Mitra Ababwa, whose door he had just reached. Practically right on time: 3:30pm on the dot for pick up and a drive to Cinder’s Castle. Knox wouldn't normally dare to arrive so early for a party, but Mitra was a close friend of Hazel, so they had offered to come early to help set things up. Knox, being a poor boy with no other means of travel but his two feet, must acquiesce to Mitra's schedule if he wished to hitch a ride.

Knox knocked on the door, ready to greet his friend for the first time since the break.

Another year, and their last at that. Marquis Stivali had once spent the summer exploring the realms as they do most time. Sure, a reason he did this was because they didn’t have a home, but Marquis was always an outdoor cat. An explorer, adventurer, wanderer. Yet he does like to come back to this school, a place where he can settle down even if it’s just for a singular school year. They work a loose, washed-out poet shirt with ruffles, black high-waisted pants, and of course, an iconic pair of brown boots, slightly worn in but not dirty. Yet he had been here much earlier than other students, infact he had been wandering campus for the past few days, mostly bored and curious to see if there were any new changes. So as students began to enter, He would be sitting up in a tree in the main courtyard, tail flicking back and forth as sound filled his ears and new and familiar scents filled his nose.

While Mars had been around here at school for some time before other students, it was refreshing to see students fill in the once-empty campus. Of course, the curious cat had explored the ins and outs of the campus, even going as far as to break into the head office to see the roommates. Of course, he was up to no good before even school started. Mars remembers breaking in, thinking that it wouldn’t be possible but when the lock clicked open, they were presently surprised. Curiosity has yet to kill this cat so he spent a good few minutes looking at files and pulling out random books to skim through. That was until a cleaning person came by and the two shared a look. Mars, a deer in the headlight for a moment, the other person, shocked but unsurprised. Yet they were quick to dash out. And that was just the day before. To say the least, he was likely being looked for already.

After the first rush of people arriving, where once sat a human was soon replaced by an orange fluffy cat, carefully walking along the semi-thick branch before gracefully jumping down, following the crowd of students inside the grand hall, going to find the highest place he could feasibly reach just by himself. It would be exciting to hear whatever one else had been up to, not having social media more so no one could find him, as Marquis was doomed to make enemies eventually. Sure he saw some people here and there but living on the streets was no easy feat. Hunting, finding shelter (usually in the form of breaking and entering), and all that fun stuff, the only time he had a room to himself was during the school year, or if he does end up following the path of his father which, he honestly did not want to follow, even if it meant he will forever be a street cat.

Once more, the orange cat was replaced by the familiar face of Marquis, as he lazily laid on the railing, peering around and clocking those that he knew well. As he sat up on his perch, they picked up on some news that would otherwise be hard for him to get otherwise. At 5 pm, Hazel was going to have a party. Getting a ride there would be difficult but not impossible, but more importantly, some sort of reveal was going to happen. He sat up upon hearing this, his tail thrashing with curiosity as everyone settled in and the Headmaster began his speech, one that Mars was tired of hearing. Not even halfway through, the young cat would slip out of the Great Hall and head to his dorm, first goal was to snag a ride to the party, then, once he got there, snoop around.

Of course, he waited a bit before pulling out his less-than-ideal phone and sending out a few messages, asking for a ride later. Now he could easily just make his way over if he left now, but that was not fun. He already traveled too far to make it to campus early this week, and thankfully, the first person to respond was Aurelian, saying he could give him a ride. Mars would confirm with a quick little “purrfect :3” text as he sat in his room, waiting for people to begin settling in. In the meantime, they would have found a spot atop the fridge, as a cat, to take a nap, a timer set to give him enough time to get dressed and meet Aurelian.

If his roommate, Elijah, would enter, he would find that it was easy to navigate the space, Mars having taken care to make sure there were clear paths to walk between areas and rooms, and his large number of boots all neatly out of the way, which was the majority of his belongings, and minimal decoration. Not that Elijah would see it but Mars didn’t have much to decorate anyways. This was his poor attempt to try and show the other that, while he might be a troublemaker, he did understand the other's disability and didn’t want to make a horrible first impression. Mars would simply be asleep and let time pass until his alarm would rudely wake him up. Mars would jump at the sudden noise, a gentle thud could be heard from the kitchen, and an annoyed meow.

After a few more annoyed meows, it was soon replaced by quiet swearing by Mars, mumbling something about hitting his wrists and back from the shortfall and jumping to grab his phone from the high place before quietly grabbing his clothing from his closet and slinking off into his room. Mars's nice things didn’t come from his own, it was either old clothing the royals didn’t need, or “borrowed” items he collected over the years. The only thing he spends money on are his shoes, or boots, as it is all he wears as far as shoes go. But the quiet almost soundless footsteps were replaced by the sounds of his heels from his heeled boots, checking his outfit in the mirror. A sheer vest-like top with beautiful black and silver applique that matched the black pants with a silver and black belt and a longish black train, adorned with some silver bracelets, 2 chains, and rings, but he was most proud of his shiny silver boots. With that, he was off, going to meet Aurelian a bit earlier than he needed, softly knocking then would simply wait, hands shoved into his pocket as his tail was busy trying to figure out where it should go.

On the first days of the new school year, there’s always that sense of anxiousness, well of course there is, hence why there is a thing known as first day jitters. For Nerida this is a common occurrence, though she’s just as excited as she is nervous. Ever After Institute had become a secondary home to her ever since she had enrolled into the school. She had been nervous then too, but everyone was so nice and welcoming to her she couldn’t help but feel happy about being part of the student body of such a wonderful (and might I just add, very luxurious and beautiful) school. Nerida had always wondered how the school was able to pay for such a lovely school for all of them, but no one ever really indulges Nerida’s questions, unless you want her to be yapping at you miles a minute for what feels like an eternity.

Nerida was packed and was ready to go weeks in advance, as the girl had been itching to get back to campus to see all of her friends, whom she missed oh so dearly, as well as being able to see what classes she was placed in. Plus, she thinks she finally has enough time during this school year to see what clubs she’s able to be a part of. The year prior she was too busy juggling school work while helping her mother with things within their kingdom. Even during the summer Nerida was still learning how to take care of the kingdom if her parents were to go. She never really had any freetime to do what she wanted. Thankfully for Nerida’s sake (and her mental health) her mom had noticed Nerida slowly got burnt out doing so many things at once and had sent her off back to school this year with a new goal, to have fun and not worry so much about her, and to do what she wants to do. Nerida being Nerida would always worry about her dear ol mom, but the woman was just like her, as stubborn as a rock, so Nerida knew she couldn’t do anything to change her mother’s mind and had left home to fulfill her mother’s request to the fullest.

When Nerida had arrived on campus, it was seemingly empty, though she didn’t mind, more time to be with my thoughts, she had decided. Nerida assumed she’d probably bump into a few students on the way to pick up her papers, maybe even see some of her friends who she'd been dying to see the moment she stepped onto campus. Though she had more important matters to attend to, unfortunately, Nerida knew she’d run into them at the party later on at five that a good friend of hers was hosting, Hazel, the daughter of Cinderella. Nerida had smiled at the thought of seeing her again. Shaking her head to pull herself out of her thoughts she had continued onwards, and as she headed through the courtyard to the entrance of the school she finally noticed a few of her peers, relieved that she wasn’t the only one on campus (and be the first to arrive, how embarrassing) she waved to them as she passed, entering into the main entrance of the institute. Nerida stood at the entrance to catch her breath really quickly before heading to the main office to pick up her papers.

When she arrived at the office, those that were there had smiled at her recognizing the girl welcoming her back for the school year. Nerida smiled and bowed her head a slight bit saying a quiet thank you as she took the packet she was being offered from their hands. With a quick goodbye Nerida left as quickly as she had come eager to get settled in and unpacked to get ready for the party later this evening. As she walked to the dormitory buildings, Nerida carefully unpackaged the contents of the envelope, opening it up and scanning the pieces of paper she was given. Muse-ic, Creative Storytelling, Good Magic Mastery, were just a few of the classes she had seen instantly as soon as she opened the envelope, but they already solidified Nerida’s opinion of this upcoming school year; she knew it was going to be THE BEST one yet.

Looking further down the page she catches the word roommate, Nerida perks up at the word, immediately looking under to see the name listed. Kryos Ghiaccio. Now, Nerida isn’t disappointed nor enthusiastic about who she’s rooming with, because she doesn’t know much about the latter other than knowing him as the son of the Snow Queen, she’s more worried about what it would be rooming with HER. Does he know she’s quite literally a FISH? Would he be okay with that? Does she smell like a fish? Hopefully that’s not the case…. She laughs at the thought thinking it’s way too silly, though not like Nerida would ever admit it, but secretly it’s a bit of a concern of hers.

Putting that debate with herself to the back of her mind she continued walking towards her assigned dorm room, and when she arrived she looked at the ornate door and sighs dreamily, happy to be back. Placing the key in into the lock and unlocking it, she swings the door open finding the neatly organized room welcoming her in. Nerida quickly places her belongings away so she wouldn’t seem like she’s a disorganized mess to her new roommate, and quickly finds the outfit she had planned in advance. It was a simple outfit, nothing too crazy, a white lace top, with a blue shrug pulled over the top of it, paired with a white ruffled skirt, and the new white heels she had bought when she was visiting the city over the summer for a little while. Satisfied with her choice of clothing she hastily puts it on so she can leave as fast as she could to start making her way to the event, she knew she had a decent walk to make it over but getting some fresh air and needed exercise wouldn’t hurt right? Nerida checks whether she had everything she needed to go out, her purse, phone, her wallet, makeup just in case she needed a touch up later on in the evening. Nodding her head confirming she had everything. She leaves the dorm room and goes back out into the beautiful spring weather.

Aurelian Rose had one goal. Survive senior year.

Being at Ever After Institute for the past three years, he was ready to leave. There were more important things to be done. For instance, taking his rightful place as heir to the throne (of his smaller kingdom), and pursuing his art passions. Unfortunately, his parents believed it was necessary for his future. Aurelian wholeheartedly disagreed, but after much cajoling, he finally agreed. If only to placate them.

He had grand plans, ones his parents would likely push against. But if he proved himself by suffering through this last year of school, they would likely be more amiable.

His coach hit the ground with a thump, which nearly sent him tumbling onto the soft floor. He shoved his glasses back onto his face. Never a soft landing. Sitting up and dusting himself off, he pulled back the white lace curtain and peered out the window.

The school loomed tall and large before him, giant doors propped open to welcome the throng of students returning for another uneventful year. Sighing, Aurelian slid out of the coach, dusting off his shirt and pants. Robert, the footman, tipped his hat towards the royal. “Good luck m’lord.”

“Thank you. I’ll need a ride later to Hazel’s party. Around 6 pm.”
Aurelian smiled at the footman before ascending the steps two at a time towards the main entrance. He waved to those he recognized. Slapped the backs of his friends. Before long, he crossed the threshold into the main atrium, where registrars were awaiting the arrival of the eager students. While he wasn’t thrilled about the idea of going back to school, being around people was certainly exciting.

Plastering on his most charming smile, he strode up to the desk and leaned across.
“Rose, Aurelian.”

The woman behind the desk raised an eyebrow at him before peering down at her desk and retrieving a packet full of things. She pushed it across, lips drawn in a thin line.
“Everything you need is in there. According to my records here, your roommate will be Knox Hood.”

Knox Hood. A perfect roommate. This was going to be fun indeed. He and Knox already got along quite well and had a symbiotic relationship of sorts. Where Knox provided Aurelian with never ending entertainment, and Aurelian helped fix the young man’s wardrobe which was sorely lacking in - well everything.

Ignoring the woman’s cold gaze, Aurelian moved towards the entrance to the rest of the castle, flipping through the folder of things. Keys to his dormitory. Classes list. First day events. A map of everything (funny they believed he needed it), as well as other various papers and files.

Soon enough he was off. Enjoying the welcome activities and reinstating himself in the few circles he was a part of, he finally returned to his room a few hours before Hazel’s party was to take place. Mars had texted him earlier, asking for a ride, which of course Aurelian obliged. After all, he and Mars had a friendship forged by the sacred art of napping.

When he arrived at his room for the first time, his things were already there, as well as his roommate, whom Aurelian promptly outfitted in a gold and black ensemble. After all, this was the first party of the season, and as much as the young princess had said it was a free for all, Aurelian believed in the art of dressing to impress. And if Knox wanted to impress anyone, he needed some help.

Then, Aurelian worked on his own ensemble. Loose fitting black pants, a white button down shirt with a collar, and his favorite piece of all, a gold chain piece that hung from his shoulders and wrapped around his body in swoops and crisscrosses. Armed with various rings, gold bracelets, and gold glasses, he began to arrange his room before there was a knock at the door.

Mars.

Aurelian grabbed his phone and keys and stuffed them in his pocket before striding to the door like the future king he was (because you act and dress for the role you want, not the one you have), and flung the door open. Mars looked dapper as ever, with his silver outfit and fancy boots. Thankfully he was not totally helpless when it came to fashion. Aurelian beamed at him.
“You look positively ravishing.”

Shutting the door, he surveyed the hallway for a moment. Another few students headed towards the exit, and given their outfits, likely to Hazel’s party.
“Well, shall we? Hazel certainly will not wait for the likes of us.”
He made his way towards the courtyard, where his carriage would be waiting. Thankfully his parents paid to leave a footman to deal with the coach (a bit excessive, but who was Aurelian to argue with them?).

Piper Pan
Please be the right room
Common Grounds // Dormitory Hall// Amor's room
Amor 606 606 / Mentions: Victoria sunshineysoul sunshineysoul
The flight out of Neverland was one of Piper's favorite journeys; soaring through the skies was an unparalleled joy and the exhilaration of navigating obstacles mid-air only heightened her glee.

Piper brought her arms into her side and expertly angled herself, descending in a dive towards the water below at an alarmingly fast rate. An almost maniacal laugh escaped her lips but the sound was swiftly carried away by the wind before her laugh could reach her own ears. Approaching the water's surface, Piper waited until the very last second before she leveled herself and, dipped her hand playfully into the warm liquid just centimeters below her. A grin played on her expression as she looked into her own reflection slightly distorted from the movement of the water.

A leaf floating on the water's edge caught Piper's eye reminding her of the next stage of her journey. She propelled herself upward leaving ripples in the water below as she ascended to a better height for the next section and perhaps her favorite phase, the forest. There was an option to rule out the forest completely, to fly over or around and she had previously promised her father that while alone she would safely go over but as the familiar scents of the forest caught her nose and the rustling of leaves in the wind caught her ears Piper found herself unable to resist as she shot towards the forest and the darkness that encased it.

"Woo-hoo" Releasing a shout of joy, Piper expertly, and with more grace than she has on land, maintained her speed as she leaned into each turn, swerving between towering trunks and branches as the world around her became a blur, the greens and browns melding together and she continued to pick up speed. Allowing her instinct to take over as she blindly weaved into each gap quite comfortably. As the trees grew closer together, Piper knew it was time to slow down but overconfidence was her downfall as she built up the speed "almost there, almost there" the ending was in sight and Piper was determined to get there but in her rush she mistook a gap and a loud resounding thud filled the forest as Piper collided with an overhanging branch before falling into the dirt below.

The forest now stood silent and still as Piper lay on her back with her eyes closed in an almost stunned silence. Opening her eyes, Piper looked above her at the tree she had crashed into before amusement took over her entire being and a laugh erupted from her throat. Once the laughter had subsided, Piper slowly stood up and brushed off the dirt and debris now on her jumper and boots. After taking a second to compose herself, Piper pushed off the ground and floated into the air again as she continued her journey towards the Ever After Institute, this time at a slower speed blissfully unaware of the bright red face and threatening bruise on her right cheek, just in time for the party.

After only another 20 minutes of flying, Piper grinned as she began to make out the Institute building and the lands encompassing it. She lowered herself to the ground in the main court yard, wobbling slightly at her initial step in her heels before she moved towards the main building to get her room number hopeful that her bags had actually arrived a few days prior. Thankfully her bags were received and placed into her allocated dorm room but as she looked at the piece of paper she had been given the name of her roommate caused her breath to catch in her throat ... Victoria Bell

Piper brushed off any unwanted thoughts as she strolled towards her dormitory building. She wasn't going to let this effect her since after all, Vic left her, Vic turned on her and Piper had been an innocent party in this whole thing. She just couldn't understand why Victoria didn't want to spend forever having adventures and fighting pirates, spending forever by her side because isn't that what best friends do?

Snapping from her thoughts, Piper looked up to come face to face with her dorm room. She raised an eyebrow as she turned around looking at the direction she had come from but had no recollection of the walk here. Her eyebrows creased as her nose scrunched in confusion before she shrugged her shoulders and brushed it off, she got here safe that's all that matters, she just hoped she didn't accidently blank someone she passed. She would just have to make up for it at the party ...OH THE PARTY. A grin spread across Piper's expression as she swayed slightly on the spot in some sort of happy dance as she remembered Hazel was throwing a party that night. Letting herself in with her key, Piper continued in to the dorm in almost happy trance but her mood changed drastically as she spotted herself in the passing mirror. Stopping suddenly Piper turned to face her own reflection as her eyes zoned in on the bloody scratch and discoloring on her right cheek. Groaning loudly, Piper threw her head back in annoyance, off all nights .. why tonight? before stomping into her room to get ready, given she would need a lot more makeup than usual for tonight.

That Evening .…

Piper stood in front of her floor length mirror swaying from side to side as she watched her skirt move with the movement. As she pulled her boots up to her thigh, Piper for a second worried that her outfit was a bit too much after all the invite did say "casual" but how often does one wear gold? and party in an actual castle? Considering she lived in a tree she strongly believed that a castle is something worthy of dressing up and being over the top at or at least that's what she told herself because her outfit was too damn cute to change.

Once happy with her outfit again, Piper moved closer to the mirror to examine her makeup one last time. She brushed her hair over her shoulders allowing it to fall in cascading waves down her back as her eyes zoned in on the scratch on her cheek that her makeup just wouldn't hide. She was pleased, however, that the cut had stopped bleeding and the bruising seemed to stay hidden under her concealer and foundation. She stared at herself in awe for a moment, feeling as though she was looking at someone's else reflection with the amount of makeup she had on before she violently blinked her eyes to break the trance.

After grabbing her bag of the bed, Piper left her dorm and skipped down the hall towards Amor's room or at least to where she believed the room to be. Refusing to check her texts again Piper once again put her trust into her own instincts and stopped at the door she believed to be her destination. Without giving herself too much time to worry Piper loudly and aggressively knocked on the door before shouting "FBI open up".

Home. That’s where she spent her last day of the break. She only ever so often gets summoned from the Fairy Tale Realm but back where she originally is from, Mount Olympus, will always be a place of comfort and rest. However, she would bid farewell to the two she would call her parents, Cupid/Eros and Aphrodite, and begin the longish flight to the portal that would be created for her to enter Ever After High. It was a roundabout way to get to school and it was difficult at times to even find the portal that would just, appear. Still, in time, she found it and dove in, appearing from the sky above the Enchanted Forest, beautiful white wings spread out as she quickly went from a straight dive into a gentle glide down to the main courtyard, where she landed. Bare feet touching the hard stone and her wings gently folding in, her pink heart-shaped eyes returning to normal as she dusted and smoothed out her purr white outfit. To some, it might just seem to be a white piece of fabric that barely covered what needed to be covered, but this was the usual clothing she wore, looking around, and realized she was, very out of place.

Yet almost immediately, some of the younger freshmen would have recognized her, running up to her and began to bombard her with questions about love, if she could help them match them with a cute person they just saw, and Amor was immediately overwhelmed, holding her hands up to try and stop them for a moment.

“I-I, please wait one moment. Um…Yes, I can help you all um…just I, I need to get my-my schedule and-and settle in,”
she started quietly, taking a step backward, but the students would follow and take a step towards her.
“Ple-please. Just a moment, let me get settled in and um, at Hazel's party! I can take requests there, promise!”
She said which seemed to satisfy most and they quickly backed off, thanking her and Amor finally took a moment to breathe. It was nice to be needed and rarely felt so much love in a singular place, but it was A LOT of work. Not that Eros or Cupid knew how much work it was, or else one of them would have tried to come in and help. But Amor wanted to prove that she could earn her spot among the Pantheon, as the next God of Love in this more modern time.

Now that Amor was granted some time to settle in, she quickly walked to pick up her files, attend the entrance meeting, and ended up in her room. A for sure safe place, where no one should come and get her, other than later going to the party with Piper. Piper was a close friend, the two always enjoyed flying and it would be nice to spend some time with her, and others, before she got to work. Yet for the rest of the time, Amor would have taken the time to organize her room, put things into the right place, and put up a few of her decorations and such.

By the time she was finished, it was time for her to get ready, she sat in her room and began to get ready, thinking only a bit behind schedule as she started her makeup, only just finishing when a knock came at her door, a soft squeak escaping her as she jumped from and ran out of her room, at first, confused about what an FBI was. Amor was still learning about this modern time compared to what she was used to back at home and what she grew up with and after a few moments, opened the door slowly only to see Piper and let out a big sigh of relief.

“Piper! You scared me. I have no idea what an FBI is,”
she said and opened the door more, revealing she was still in her original outfit, only her makeup being done.
“Just give me one second, then we can go.”

Rushing back into her room, closing the door, begging to rush and throw things on. Dress, shoes, and accessories looked in the mirror as she placed on her golden laurel and stared at her hair deciding it was fine enough, curly/wave hair never behaves anyways, and stepped back out of her room.
“Okay! I’m all good now! You love AMAZING by the way, I love your outfit!”

Mentioned: Mitra
Interacted: Hazel

The one advantage of living near the Enchanted Lake was its nearness to Ever After Institute. A fact that Cosette Swan often took solace in when her mother became particularly overbearing and controlling. No matter what, Cosette would always be able to find her way back, even on foot. And as soon as the gates were open, she was inside.

She and Thistle had left early in the morning after yet another argument with Odette. Mostly about the fact that soon Cosette would have to sign her name in the storybook of legends, and she did not want to. If it came down to it, Cosette would refuse - even going as far as resorting to violence if that’s what it took.

Fortunately, there was still time to make a plan. Still time to find a way to undo this curse and perhaps even stop it from happening to her mother.

Thistle gave a small honk as Cosette reached the castle steps, drawing her out from her raging thoughts. She came to a halt, taking in every little detail. The way the light hit the sandstone walls and made it look gilded. How the crisp air raked through her curly hair as the wind blew past. Pulling off her white lace-up sandals, she stood in the grass, allowing the soft green to brush the soles of her feet. She inhaled deeply, shutting her eyes. Every ounce of tension was released from her body.

This was home.

---
Cosette ensured she was one of the first students to retrieve the files with her school documents. Partly because she didn’t want to interact with anyone else but also because it was a little source of pride for her. Perusing the contents, she discovered class lists, keys, and a list of events for the first day (most of which seemed like they would be well-attended and overstimulating, so definitely something she would avoid). Cosette’s heart skipped a beat as she pulled out the slip of paper that would decide her fate (pun intended) for the rest of the year. There was a list of people who would make her life a living hell if she had the misfortune of being paired with them. And most people did not make suitable roommates since they weren’t clean, quiet, and respectful.

Squeezing her eyes shut, she prayed to whatever being (if any) out there that she would not get a terrible roommate. Then, cracking an eye open, she peered down at the sheet.

The words swam on the page for a moment before she could make them out.

Mitra Ababwa.

Something between a shriek and a shout erupted from Cosette’s mouth before she could stop it. It was too much luck, rooming with one of her very best friends. Someone must have pulled some strings to allow this to happen. And whoever did made the list of Cosette’s favorite people.

Practically skipping down the halls, she went to her room, where her things were already waiting for her. It was still early, so Mitra hadn’t arrived yet, but Cosette set to unpacking her things and making her room look perfect and cozy. Including vines, strings of fairy lights, pressed plants, live plants, photographs, jewelry stands, racks of dresses, tops and skirts, wraps, and more. Stacks of old books, a record player, notebooks, writing implements, linguistic textbooks, makeup kits, and more finished it out. The room was beautiful, but more in the way a forest is beautiful - with all sorts of things cropping up and growing in different spots and stuffed full of exciting new discoveries.

Glancing at the clock, it read noon. The perfect time to make her way to Hazel’s castle to prepare for the party. And the perfect time to sneak out before anyone would notice she avoided all the events. Pulling out her phone, she ordered a carriage to take her to Cinderella’s castle to meet Hazel.

Exiting her room as quietly as she could, she picked her way down the cavernous hallways. Most students were at their events, in their rooms, or on their way to the institute. Which meant no one would stop her on her way out.

Thirty minutes later, the carriage pulled up in front of the grand gates to Hazel’s palace. The structure loomed in front of her like some opulent gray stone. Turrets and spires stretched high as if trying to pierce the blue sky. Giant stone carvings peered down at her. However, she couldn’t figure out if they looked more like guardians or fearsome creatures ready to consume her.

Making her way up the marbled steps, one of the doors gave way, revealing a grand hall. Filled with paintings, golden architecture, and dangling chandeliers. A smile crept across her face as much as she tried to stop it. She could still see a younger version of herself running down the stairs, chasing after Hazel. Fortunately, they grew out of it quickly, but she had fond memories of this place. Where she made a bond that lasted years and led to yet another deep friendship with Mitra.

A young woman came flying down the stairs, dressed plainly, but the smile was the same.
“Good afternoon, Cosette! Hazel is upstairs if you want to come with me.”

“Hello, Marie.”
Cosette smiled, following the serving girl back up the stairs. She ran her hand up the side of the banister. The lacquered wood slid beneath her palm as she made her way up stone steps. Her sandals sent large, reverberating echoes soaring up into the rafters and through the cavernous halls.

She raked her gaze over each of the paintings on the walls, many depicting stories she knew well. Somewhere on here, she could find her parents’ story. When she was little, Cosette thought it was exciting to see her family’s legacy represented in her best friend’s castle. Now it served as a reminder of all she had to lose.

Heading towards the East Wing, Marie stopped in front of a large wooden door carved with beautiful markings. She knocked on the door and leaned forward.
“Cosette Swan here to see you.”

Marie threw a smile in Cosette’s direction before heading off to do something else. Cosette took hold of the doorhandle and pushed her way inside, sticking her head through the crack in the door.

“Hazel? Can I come in?”

Knox (breifly)

Don't wanna call you in the nighttime, don't wanna give you all my pieces, don't wanna hand you all my troubles, don't wanna give you all my demons. You will have to watch me struggle, from several rooms away. But tonight, I need you to stay. Tonight, I need you to stay.

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL

Leaving Neverland was always met with an abundance of mixed emotions for Victoria Bell. She had only done it a few times, nowhere near enough times to actually grow used to the feeling. She had yet to grow accustom to the longing, the guilt, the excitement, and the dread that constantly washed over her on the way to Ever After Institute. They seemed to wash over her in waves throughout her whole trip, one emotion at a time, as if she was cycling through them in no particular order. Hitting shuffle on them just like she did on her playlists.

Having to use her own two wings to fly all the way from Neverland to Ever After, Vic always knew how to pack light; essentials only. She had special privileges to return to Neverland on a regular basis in order to get more pixie dust for herself, so she knew she could always grab anything "extra" on one of her trips home. Every "first day back" trip, Vic carried what she could fit in an oversized tote bag and flittered off; her tote bag which held needed toiletries, her stash of pixie dust, three changes of clothes her personal journal, and her lucky screw driver. It was everything Vic needed to live the first week before returning back to Neverland for more.

She had made the trip a few times, but the "first day back" trip was always different. That trip was only made three times including now. Pixie dust refresher trips never felt the same as this one. Her refreshers were a quick stop by her house, which was conveniently placed near the pixie dust tree, then a drive by for her next fill of pixie dust, then back home. It wasn't involved with a long line of good-byes and good lucks, nobody for Vic to plant a fake-ass smile on her face and pretend everything was happy and shiny and full of rainbows. With her refresher trips, she didn't have to lie to everybody in Pixie Hollow about being a Rebel.

Victoria hadn't told a soul of another fairy that she wanted to defy her destiny, that she didn't want to be Peter Pan's side chick with unrequited love for the rest of her days. She didn't think it was that hard to realize if anybody knew her at all, but Vic always felt see-through; Like everybody saw her for who she was supposed to become, and not her actual self. For whatever reason, nobody could see Victoria for who she was, so much so that Vic wasn't even sure who she was.

It used to be simple. Victoria was Piper's best friend. Vic and Piper, Piper and Vic, the two were attached at the hip as they grew up. All they knew was that they were, essentially, going to spend the rest of their lives together; Adventuring, exploring, taking down pirates and soaring through the skies. It took everything in Victoria to ignore the romantic feelings that bubbled inside her as they grew up together. Vic simply couldn't help falling for Piper's energy, her kindness, the way she saw the world through rose-colored glasses and saw the best of every situation. Vic loved everything about her best friend, and she never wanted to lose that feeling.

Until she learned more about her fate. Her "destiny". To forever be in love with Piper while Piper fell in love with someone else. To forever be in agony, eternally pining after someone she could never have. To forever long to share that mutual love between her and her best friend while her best friend never even notice her. It planted a bitter seed of cold in her gut; resentment slowly built inside her, blaming Piper for something she didn't have any knowledge about.

So it only made sense that Vic let out a groan that almost shook the entire campus upon reading who her roommate would be.

Piper Pan

Of course whatever higher being was laughing their ass off, or maybe just the Dean of the school having a good laugh at trying to put Vic the Rebel in her place. Whatever the case may have been, Vic wasn't having it. But she also couldn't do anything about it but suck it up and deal. After shaking her head a few times, Vic turned her music back on full blast as she slowly made it towards her dorm.

She did her best to enjoy the scenery around her, spring was one of her favorite seasons. She loved helping the garden fairies grow and paint the flowers, she loved helping lead all the animals out of hibernation, and she loved lifting the frost off of everything and watching the lush green spread throughout the land. It was gorgeous, calming, the scenery made a valiant effort to calm Vic's nerves about living with Piper; but it ultimately failed. As much as she tried, Victoria's eyes couldn't leave their locked-on state on her dorm building. With every step she took, her heart beat faster, harder. She hadn't dreaded anything this much since she broke up with Knox but still had to face him around ever corner of the school.

Much sooner than she liked, Vic was at her own door. Well, her and Piper's door.

Do you think she's already in there? Maybe she's already dropped off her stuff and run off with some friends? Maybe she hasn't even made it to the dorm? That's ridiculous, she left Neverland before me, no way my luck is THAT good. Unfortunately my luck has proved to slap me in the face on more than one occasionally.

Vic was stalling, silently talking to herself in an attempt to somehow give the universe a way to get her out of the pending situation. After what felt like hours (two minutes), the fairy decided to swallow her nerves and just go into the room. Quickly opening the door, stepping in and closing the door behind her was all step one. Turning around to face the common area of the dorm, a small flutter of relief washed over her to see that there was no sign of Piper.

Well, guess I can unclench now.

Without thinking, Vic decided to pick one of the rooms to dump all of her belongings into. Essentially barging into the room landed her face to face with the one person she had been wanting to avoid just a few hours longer.

"Oh, sorry." Victoria's aura was awkward, nervous. "I didn't know you were here- I'll take the other room." Not even giving Piper enough time to speak, Vic left the room as quickly as she entered it. She made a b-line for the confirmed UNoccupied room, closing the door behind her, dumping her bag by the door, and flopping onto the freshly-made bed.

Just my luck, huh?

This is why...

I can take them on my own.

Mitra Ababwa
Mitra had an early start, and thank goodness they did. It was roughly noon and the sun was high in the sky. Mitra was parked on the side of the road, half deep in the front of their beloved Ford Fae-150. The olive green truck with the pale moss stripe was a treasured belonging of the enby. Mitra had spent years working, starting from fifteen, to save enough money to buy a sturdy vehicle. The Ford was then purchased from a friend of a coworker at age eighteen. Since then, every spare minute and dollar had gone into the upkeep and upgrade of the truck. But the Fae-150 was from 1996 and had seen more than her fair share of years. Which was why Mitra was replacing the fan belt mid trip. They had bought a new fan belt a few weeks back, but had thought that they wouldn't have to replace it for another few months. But with the wear and tear of going cross-kingdom, the fan-belt on the engine couldn't keep up. Situating the long strap into the engine had taken a good twenty minutes, eating into Mitra's driving time and subsequently the rest of the day. They'd have to double-time it to get all that they wanted to get done, done in time for Hazel's party; which they wanted to be early to.

Finally pulling themself from the belly of the beast, Mitra tossed the tools they were using into the trusty red Proto toolbox placed haphazardly by their booted feet. Standing back with their hands on their hips to take a breather, they pulled out their phone to check the time. Enough time to get to school and get situated. Also enough time to take a speedy shower. Stepping away from the truck and closing the lid of the toolbox, Mitra picked it up by the black rubber handle and walked to the bed of the Fae-150. Swinging the toolbox over the side and into the back with all of their various bags and belongings, Mitra rounded the front of the truck to hop into the driver's side and turned the key as well as the engine. Success. Now the last leg of the drive.

Arriving at Ever After Institute at around 12:30 pm was behind schedule, but only by an hour. Mitra nodded to others they recognized and greeted the other latecomers. Mitra was a private person and much preferred the absence of small talk, so speaking to students they only knew in passing just to say hi and ask innocuous questions about winter break was out of the question. Instead they grabbed the two full suitcases and the heavy backpack and headed towards the office so they could find their room assignment. Walking down familiar hallways was always soothing, despite the ever-present underlying anxiety Mitra always carried with them. EAI had never had an incident that threatened the lives of their students, but one could never be too careful.

Making their way to the office was relatively easy, not a terrible amount of students in the halls, as most were at events or in their dorms. Mitra placed the suitcases down as they asked for their packet, immediately ripping open the room assignment and roommate envelope. A slow smile spread across their face as they realized who they were rooming with. Cosette Swan was a dear childhood friend and the fates were smiling upon Mitra today. They picked up their bags and made their way to their dorm, sidestepping people and their own bags and luggage as they went down the dorm halls. When they got there, it seemed Cosi had already set herself up, decorating her side with all she brought. Mitra did the same with their own belongings, placing picture frames, bed sheets, clothes, and essentials where they belonged. After about an hour of rearranging, organizing, and general decorating, they hopped in for a quick shower, afterwards dressing in a nice pair of golden pants, a billowy golden nd white silk blouse tucked in the waistband. They donned a pair of black ballet flats and brushed their brown hair into a sensible updo. It would do for Hazel's party. The knock on their door came just in time and Mitra swung it open to see their darling friend, Knox.

"Knox! Good timing! Let me grab my phone and bag and I'll be good to go!" Mitra announced, going back into the room to grab their essentials, including the truck keys. They locked up the dorm behind them with the new key on their key ring and slung the small gold clutch over their shoulder.

"How was your break, Knox?" Mitra asked, content to listen to Knox ramble for the next few hours with little input needed. Knox was rather good at that, it took a lot of pressure off of the enby.

Too Early in the Morning…

The morning routine of a future Queen is meticulous.

Winter preferred a gentle morning. Awaking just before the sunrise to do her morning stretches and silent meditation. Next was a run around the grounds of the White Castle, followed by her fight training drills. After was her bath, where her attendant would go through her daily schedule.

Today was the first day back at Ever After Institute, and more to it: It was Winter’s senior year.

The importance of this year has never been lost on Winter, which is why she took her training and her royal duties seriously. However, there was much to be said about the joy of being free from her attendant and the constant watch of the palace guards. Free to let loose and enjoy the remaining moments of freedom before the destiny that awaits her.

The rest of the morning continued. Dressing and checking the last of her packing. Breakfast with the newspaper for Ever After, Southern Realm, and Wonderland (which was often baffling, but it was good to keep up with the political climate). Soon, Winter’s belongings were packed in her carriage, red and gold with 4 white horses and staffed with 4 palace employees.

Though Winter would not be riding in this carriage.

With her red leather tote bag, driving gloves, sunglasses and scarf to protect her hair, Winter climbed into her candy apple red FairRari Swift convertible, the footman gave the carriage driver the signal to start it’s journey. She turned the key to start the ignition of the car, letting the engine warm up, hands anxiously grasping the wheel in anticipation. Her foot pressed lightly on the gas pedal, excitement creeping up through her stomach as the engine revved now that the horses had pulled the carriage far enough down the drive.

This was the key component of Winter’s back to school trip, making sure the carriage has reached the end of the lane turned towards campus. The drive from the White Castle to the Ever After Institue campus was not a particularly long one. However, if the carriage turns left at the end of the castle drive, they’ll take a direct route, working out to be about half an hour. Winter, taking any small moment of freedom always takes the right turn at the end of the drive, giving her a beautiful scenic route around the realm and the chance to give her beloved car some well needed zoom time.

The carriage turned left and Winter gave the horses a moment so as not to worry them before she pulled the gear shift to drive and pressed her LouBaton heeled boots to the pedal, leaving castle life and responsibilities behind. She could practically feel her mother’s disapproval from the window high above her, which Winter acknowledged with a casual wave as she turned right towards the sunny farmlands of Ever After. She smiled widely (perhaps truly for the first time today) as the wind rushed around her. This was as close to flying as she could get. The most in control she can be with her life. Just her, her car, and the open road, carrying away the looming destiny in front of her.

This was her final year at EAI, and she was about to make it count.

Later…

First day back was always a snooze.
Of course Winter was one of the first to arrive to collect her welcome package, in fact she arrived about 15 minutes before the scheduled time. Something the administrator took very seriously, as they made Winter wait the whole 15 minutes before giving her the welcome package. She spent the 15 minutes waiting outside the front office, watching the castle staff struggle with her trunks and bags and having a cigarette. Not her finest habit, but it was probably the most harmless of her vices.

The wait washed away the euphoria of her joy ride, so she was already a little cranky when she opened her envelope to discover her roommate was Ravenna Nightshade.

“You’ve got to be joking,”
Winter held back from berating the administrator who had zero involvement in this decision.
“Someone is playing a cruel joke on me.”
What else could you say when you discover you’ll be rooming with the child of the woman who poisoned your mother?

Winter led the team of red clothed palace staff to the dormitories, leaving them to unpack and arrange her belongings according to a detailed plan she had made last week. She was free to attend the lectures, and presentations, and the lunches, and shake hands with the dean and the professors, and entertain requests to the royal family (as if she had any true power when it came to realm politics or with her parents for that matter).
It was all so boring.

Soon it was over, and she was free to inspect her dormitory and the work of the guards, ruling it to be proficient before dismissing them to return the carriage to the castle. It was a relief to finally be free from the palace eye, though Winter always suspected a guard might remain on campus to keep watch, though in the years she’s attended EAI they’ve never shown themselves. Either they were very good at their job, or Winter has a touch of paranoia.

Blizzard, her long haired white cat, lay comfortably in his cosy tower, chirping softly as she scratched his soft head and kissed him between the ears. Blizzy was Winters companion ever since she discovered him stranded on the castle grounds in a snowstorm. He was so hard to see as the wind and snow whipped around him, his saving grace being his bright blue eyes. He became the little prince of the White Castle, napping in all the places Winter would get a stern talking to for discovering as a young child.

If Ravenna was in her room, Winter didn’t acknowledge her as she got ready to leave for Hazel’s party. The theme was ‘Silver and Gold’, so she packed her garment bag with a slinky, silver stoned dress, and gathered the rest of her things into the FairRari and set off to the Cinder’s Castle not far from the campus.

elijah hayes

/* ------ right side ------ */

a voice of commandment mixed with a gentle warmth sounded at the crowd of students buzzing in anticipation for their name. "next in line, please!" a middle-aged woman had stated, typing away something important into the computer system with her attention momentarily divided.

a bored and impatient elijah hayes let out a quiet sigh of relief to himself, his feet detaching themselves from the pavement they fused to during his wait as the ball of his cane dragged gently against the porous floor in front of him. and once he felt the familiar impact of a tap against something solid, he stopped walking. the same voice rang again, this time laced with a welcoming familiarity for him.

"ahh, if it isn't the hayes boy.. you're not gonna give us more trouble this year, are ya?" she teased at him half-jokingly, the sound of a stapler clicking against his papers answering before he could.

naturally, the mention of his past antics brought a smile out of him - no teeth just yet - but enough to bring him out of his lulled stupor.

"your idea of trouble is my pleasure," he answered, a prominent english accent escaping his throat. at the sound of his papers being shuffled and tucked into an envelope, he laid out an empty hand against her desk and let his nimble fingers delicately close around his file before pulling it closer to his side. "you know i'm here to liven up ever after institute, of course. without me, there'd be no paperwork to fill out or phone numbers to call!"

unfortunately, he wasn't lying either. it was nothing new to anyone who had worked on campus grounds within the last year that elijah was quite the wildcard, to say the least. anyone's worst mistake was to infantilize the blind guy.

"as true as that may be, eli, you do have to grow up eventually. maybe your new roommate can tame you down some," she snickered, coaxing a look of suspicion from him. "marquis stivali 's the name. i think you might be meeting your match this time.." she added, dismissing elijah quickly with a 'next!' before he could ask anything else.

far less calm compared to how he was feeling a few seconds ago (and moreso anxious now), the royal turns on his heel and begins walking toward the familiar path of the dormitories - only this time at a much more leisurely pace.

hazel's party.
"and you're sure this look is considered 'cool', hazel?" elijah asked with a hint of question in his voice as his fingertips danced their way up his buttons, coming to a stop above his breastbone to leave a few undone. as young as he was, his wardrobe was never considered up-to-date with the latest fashions. shirts were ironed until wrinkle-free, shoes showed little wear and tear despite his escapades, and all buttons were used. he wasn't judgemental in the slightest when his friends participated in it (hell, he hardly cared), but until now, eli didn't jump on the bandwagon.

"just one breeze and people are gonna think i'm happy to see them!," he exclaimed with a chuckle, one hand motioning to the bareness of his chest and at the lack of an undershirt underneath his button-up. still, if anybody knew what they were doing in terms of fashion, it was thee hazel cinders.

and either way it went, elijah hayes had no choice but to trust her.

their comfortable silence, with the exception of the occasional shuffling noise in the room, was happily interrupted by another familiar voice. and habitually, eli's head snapped up towards the sound of it from where he stood.

"cosi?," his voice raised in a form of a question but there was no doubt in his mind that it was her. the young rebel was bound to be one of the first to show face at the party considering hazel and cosette were close. but whether she knew of his early appearance or not, eli was all the more happy to hear her now.

adonis kingsley

/* ------ right side ------ */

the stables.
a brisk walk towards the stables turned stealthy and leisurely as adonis kingsley welcomed the familiar scent of hay. it was his first early morning at ever after institute after leaving his regal world behind him and he couldn't think of a better familiar to make a short stop with before heading into the unknown - an obsidian-black stallion named onyx.

"you liking your new home so far, boy?" the rebel asked in a hushed tone of voice, reaching a hand within an opening of the stall where he would be greeted with a rather excited nuzzle to his palm. near his horse, his childhood companion, was the only time adonis could truly smile. but as quickly as it appeared, it diminished into adonis' casual poker face.

the weight of his luggage in his other hand, his entire life reduced into that of a duffle bag, served as a reminder that he had yet to unpack. and in an effort to stay ahead of the crowd, he knew it was time to leave his friend to get adjusted to his new home. onyx didn't seem to mind the relocation in the slightest, his freshly groomed coat and beaming attitude signaling great care, but adonis had a different world to face.

if only i could spend my entire life eating carrots and grazing in pastures with a promised glimpse of a sunrise too, adonis thought to himself.

"i'll come back with an apple later.," he exclaimed towards onyx, staying to earn a whinny of approval, before turning towards the exit.

the heart of the institute.
as his proper time management promised him, adonis arrived at the housing office amongst a few other early birds with the same intentions. a sleek and beige-colored envelope brandishing the EAI crest contained what life would be like for him for the rest of the school year. and as it landed in his hands, suddenly it beared the weight of a boulder instead.

a simple, and simultaneously monotonous, 'thank you' escaped his buxom lips as he walked away from the front of the line and stopped under a shady, oak tree to retrieve the campus map from his file along with his assigned dorm room. and while his eyes skimmed over the information, a swell of anxiety began to make home within his stomach. suddenly, this was all too real.

"bashi yaga..," adonis voiced to no one in particular, letting the unfamiliar name settle on his tongue and burn into his memory with the rest. the name did nothing to his emotional state - to which he considered a very good thing. because despite trading his kingdom for ever after institute, he spent a good chunk of his life meeting various faces and interacting with even more. to finally meet someone he didn't recognize and didn't affiliate with the bastia family already was a breath of fresh air.

taking one last look at the room number listed, along with sliding the metal key ring on his pointer finger, he began his complicated walk toward the dorm rooms while utilizing the campus map provided with the rest of his paperwork.

the dormitories.
twenty very long minutes later and adonis kingsley finally made it toward the entrance of his shared dorm room. shuffling from the other side of the door's surface assured him that his roommate had already made home in their preferred bedroom. and as he slowly pushed open the door and walked inside, a conversation coming from an open room resonated in earshot. something about a party, to which served as a reminder of another event adonis had the pleasure of attending.

at least this time, it was at a place he was comfortable visiting. hazel cinders', an already cherished friend of his, very own palace.

a smile would have played at the corners of his mouth had his roommate stayed on the phone. but, much like a startled cat landing in panic mode, adonis' own breathing stilled as silence came from his roommate's room before they walked out. eventually, adonis wasn't the only one in the living room anymore.

willing his anxiety to subside, the all-too-familiar brooding exterior fell like a war barricade - any hint of an expression upon his face now gone. but in an attempt to keep the situation from becoming awkward, he decided to speak. "you must be bashi... i'm adonis." he said, readjusting the strap of his duffle bag with a smooth roll of his shoulder. as he did so, adonis began walking towards the only vacant room left to settle in.

"i'll probably be out pretty late tonight, so don't worry about be being in your hair," adonis added, pushing the door open with his knee before walking towards his bed. a quiet sigh of content and appreciation of the weight off his shoulders sounded as he tossed the two bags against the comforter haphazardly.

a nice hot shower was calling his name as adonis made his way toward the bathroom to turn the metal knobs on. instantaneously, he closed his eyes slowly as the steam began to rise off the floor and walls of his shower, kissing at his delicate skin.

shower now, party later - that was his game plan for the night. kicking the bathroom door closed behind him, he began to pull his shirt off over his head, his other articles of clothing following suit as they began to pool at his feet before walking into the steamy cascade.

hazel's party.
the sun had already begun to kiss the horizon line, lulling the singing birds and transforming a bright blue sky into glorious transformations of oranges and pastel pinks. hazel's palace was throwing up her friends and acquaintances into the courtyard, filling the usual quietness with the sounds of drunken laughter and talk of the end of their first day at ever after. and amongst them towered a hesitant adonis kingsley.

the faint touch of his golden chains breezing against his dress shirt caused him to momentarily snap out of his thoughts and a comfortable kiss of the wind touseled his raven hair. the moment would have been considered picturesque had his feelings matched the exterior. still, he looked forward to meeting with his childhood friend again and only that kept him from turning on his heel.

willing himself to move from where he stood was suddenly the hardest part.

Look who's digging their own grave, that is what they all say; "you'll drink yourself to death". Look who makes their own bed, lies right down within it and what will you have left? Your hands protect the flames from the wild winds around you

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL

The Dark Forest wasn't to terribly far from Ever After Institute, or maybe Benjamin was just so used to traveling the distance. There weren't a lot of modes of transportation between the Dark Forest and Ever After, there tended to only be one; an incredibly run down transit bus. Rumor around the forest was that it was the oldest bus Ever After had in their fleet, and nobody wanted to risk sending over a newer, nicer bus. There was the obvious fear that if a newer, nicer bust was ever sent into the Dark Forest, then it would never come back out. So they stick to sending the same, old, and incredibly run down transit bus.

Old and run down was a massive understatement. The wrap on the bus that once sparkled and advertised shiny and exciting reasons to visit the Ever After realm was now peeled and scuffed off and covered with various colors and strokes of spray paint, making it unrecognizable. Too many of the windows were cracked, even one or two panels where the window had been completely smashed out which was remedied by cardboard and duct tape. The interior of the bus wasn't any better at all; Several of the cushions were worn down, their cloth covers ripped and torn, leaving their foam innards on full display, some of them even had some of the aforementioned spray paint all over them.

There was only two seats in the whole bus that remained relatively pristine. All the way in the back of the bus, on the left. That was where Benjamin Wolfe always sat. Ever since he began commuting so frequently between Ever After and his home, Ben sat in that specific section; and he made sure everyone knew that it was HIS seat, and if anyone ever even wafted some of their stank-breath into his section, Ben would personally rip their throat out. His section was perfect; the window was pristine, it was the perfect viewing opportunity for the cars the bus passed as well as the scenery as they traveled through different realms. There was a single working air conditioning vent that blew perfectly onto the seats & the seats were surprisingly plush and untouched by wear and tare, despite the amount of times Ben sat in that very spot.

Ben knew their run-down transit like the back of his hand; he was familiar with how exactly the bus rode. He knew that if the bus reached anything over 75 miles per hour, the battery would spazz out. If the bus tried to go any slower than 10 miles per hour, the battery would die and need a jumpstart, which meant as soon as the ket turned over the ignition, the driver would have to floor it. Ben knew it was better on the steering mechanics for the bus to just eat potholes instead of swerving around them. Ben was convinced that he knew the bus well enough that he could drive it to and from Ever After with no problems.

However, that would not be happening on this particular day. No, on this particular day, Ben was just another ordinary passenger on their way to Ever After. Just another villain kid trying to go to school to make their fairy-tale parent proud. There weren't a lot of villain kids like Ben, kids who embraced their fate as a forever hated villain in someone else's story. There was Ravenna, daughter of the Evil Queen, but she wasn't entirely embracing her fate, just the evil part of her mother. Most everyone else Ben grew up with and knew weren't really that enthusiastic about embracing their fate. But Ben never had a problem with it. It seemed like a pretty simple life; terrorize people, do whatever you want, and die at some point but some hero's hand.

At least, that's what he would tell everyone else whenever they asked. The truth was, following in his father's footsteps was the only way Ben felt his father anymore. After losing him far too soon, Ben has lived his life desperately grasping at any little bit or spark or wisp of his father he can find. Nobody looked up to their father quite like Ben did to the Big Bad Wolf.

A little boy who was dumped at a seemingly random doorstep just when they were learning how to have feelings can do a lot of damage to said little boy. But thankfully, there was a Wolf whose heart grew three times its size just at the sight of the little boy. Big Bad Mr. Wolf was the best father to Ben, to everybody's shock. When most people saw Big Bad Wolf, they saw a terror, a threat to their safety, a demon to be eliminated. But when Ben saw his father, he saw loyalty to model his life after, pride to never let die, and a caring heart that kicked in when it mattered.

Ben shook himself back to reality. His eyes refocused on the Ever After Institute far off in the distance. Not a whole lot of good tended to come from reminiscing over his father; it always left Ben longing for someone who he'd never be able to get back. He quickly shook his head again, deciding he needed to change the music he was listening to. Ben didn't want to have to listen to such sad music when he still had another hour before arriving.

~~

Hazel Cinders.

Ben knew that name, it was his ex girlfriend's really good friend. Exactly what Ben needed, a roommate that hated him. Well, maybe not? Maybe she didn't hate him? She was Hazel Cinders, daughter to Cinderella. She had a reputation around school for being naively sweet and on the ditzy side from time to time. Maybe she's forgotten about him.

He decided to shrug it off as he stalked across campus. The tall Wolfe had a dark presence about him; he had earned his own reputation through his years at Ever After High. Hailing from the Dark Forest, he seemed to bring a darkness with him everywhere he went. And it wasn't a depressing and gloomy kind of darkness, no it was far more terrifying than that. The aura Ben carried with him was threatening and sickening, with one flash of his fangs he could have anyone pissing their pants and begging for mercy.

Benjamin Wolfe was no longer planning to step into his father's footsteps.

He already had.

Benjamin Wolfe stepped on that campus as the official Big Bad Wolf.

Riding the high of scaring (and probably scarring) a few EAI students on his way to his dorm, Ben arrived at the room he would be living in for the rest of the year. Feeling no pain, the senior slid his headphone off his head to rest them on his shoulders, and walked through the door. He gave a small smiler and wave to the girl who was going to be sharing said room with him for the rest of the year.

"Hey, I'm Ben," He began introducing himself as he kicked off his shoes and and picked them up to place in his own room in a few moments. "Which room do you want?"

"Good morning and nice to meet you, Ben. I'm Hazel Cinders, Daughter of Cinderella. And I think I'll just get the room on the right, if you don't mind."

She was chipper, more chipper and happy then Ben expected. But he didn't let it shake him, he didn't need to give her any reason to dislike him right off the bat.

"Nope, don't mind at all." He gave her a small nod as he carried his shoes and the rest of his belongings into the room on the left. After a few moments, while Ben was in the middle of putting clothes up in his closet, Hazel knocked on his door and peaked her head inside.

"Hey, I don't know if you've heard about it, but I'll be throwing a party at my castle this evening. Feel free to come if you want!" She seemed to dismiss herself out of his room after he gave her a small smile, as if he was silently agreeing to go to the party. Who was Ben to turn down a party? At a CASTLE no less? He just knew the free food and booze was going to be the best he had in a long time.

“Be kind and have courage.”

This is a famous quote from a beloved and kind woman who has stepped down from her maid role to one of a more regal role. Her name is Ella Cinders, more famously known as Cinderella. In the world of Ever After, she continues the royal legacy of noble women who sought out tenderness and compassion, which earned them their happy ending. The Cinders are famous for continuing the line of beautiful and noble women who take up the mantle of Cinderella. Her tale is one of kindness, forgiveness, romance and, of course, a happily ever after. And the current heir to this role is none other than the most excitable and extroverted lady, The Princess Royal, Hazel Cinders.

Today holds a particular significance for Hazel Cinders as she steps into her second year at Ever After Institute, a respected academy where dreams intertwine with learning and fairytale destinies. With her seamless success in her first year, she looks forward to her next chapter in life. The air is electric with anticipation as she eagerly anticipates the commencement of classes and the celebration of her early birthday later in the day, a joyous occasion adding an extra layer of excitement to the already momentous day.

As the daughter of Cinderella, Hazel made it to the establishment just in time. She stepped forward and was greeted by the sight of a grand castle. The beautiful campus grounds are just the same as they were before. Hazel took in a deep breath. An electrifying excitement filled the air, and Hazel couldn’t help but grin and admire the fairytale characters surrounding her. As she makes her way to the designated area before the morning bell rings, she starts humming the lullaby her mother used to sing to her. She doesn’t have the confidence to sing the words yet, so that humming will do for now.

Upon arriving at the Great Hall, the bell rang, and Hazel took her seat, watching as royal and rebel students flooded the hall. She waved and smiled politely at the people she knew both royals and rebels. Hazel firmly believed her kindness allowed her many acquaintances and friends. For that, she was thankful for her mother’s teachings.

After Headmaster Grimm's fantastic speech, she was filled with newfound courage to seize the day. She reported straight to the front office for their file, and her heels clicked with purpose with each step she took. There was a particular skip in her step on her way to her dorm, and her last roommate was an absolute doll to be with. Before she could go to her dorm room, she sat in a nearby seat to review the parchment she received. Hazel opened it with a swift motion, and there she saw an unfamiliar name. Benjamin Wolfe. Something irks her about his name; she can’t remember if she has met Benjamin before, but the name seems familiar. She simply can’t recall whether she had heard that name before from Cosette or Mitra. She would merely have to check with them later at the party.

No one in her current grade has that name, so she assumed they were a year lower or higher than hers. There’s only one thing that Hazel hoped her roommate would not be: a pervert. Hazel is still willing to give her unknown roommate the benefit of the doubt. On her way to her dorm, a few students recognised her and patted her on the back for their excitement for the party. Hazel greeted their excitement with a polite smile and a hint of positivity.

With the help of her coachmen, she was free from any heavy lifting when she arrived at her assigned room. Hazel thanked the men who helped her and told them to wait momentarily for her to sort her dorm out before she headed to her castle. Hazel is not interested in the school’s activities and is solely focused on settling in. Hazel waited for her roommate; she wanted him to take the first pick before her as a sign of respect and typical human decency.

When the doors creaked open, Hazel stood upright. There, she saw a tall man with midnight black hair. "Hey, I'm Ben, which room do you want?" Ben greeted her, and she welcomed him with a smile. She didn’t have to wait that long for her roommate, and she breathed in relief at the thought of her getting back to the castle sooner.

"Good morning, and nice to meet you, Ben. I'm Hazel Cinders, Daughter of Cinderella. And I'll get to the right side of the room if you don't mind.”
Hazel announced as she slowly heaved her boxes towards the right side of the room.

"Nope, don't mind at all.” He answered.

She sorted her things quietly and placed her clothes and shoes delicately and neatly. She worked swiftly through and folded the unused boxes under her bed. Unlike the other royals, Hazel made it a habit to herself not to bother other people with something she would be able to do. In a way, she loved the practicality when the opportunity presented itself.

With a satisfied look, she slowly approached the door, but before she could forget, she turned to Benjamin’s door and knocked.
"Hey, I don't know if you've heard about it, but I'll be throwing a party at my castle this evening. Feel free to come if you want!"

2:00 pm @ Newkingdom Estate
Before Hazel left for the day, the servants had been working hard preparing for the evening party. Hazel has to remember to thank them for their help at the end of the party. The way they have helped her has been very endearing. In saying that, everything must be perfect; a ball between her closest friends would’ve been ideal, but seeing as it was her twentieth birthday, she would instead make it grand and open her doors to all students of Ever After Institute. She just hopes that no one will mock her by ruining anything in the castle. But surely, in Hazel’s mind, nothing like that will happen because she has been kind and respected most of the people she encountered.

“Ah, Princess. There you are!” Her father, King Bastia, greeted her with open arms and kissed her forehead.

With a giggle leaving her lips, she brushed her doting father off, embarrassed at the servants' watching eyes.
“Father, you don’t always have to do that. My friends could come in any minute.”

“Oh, alright, if you must insist. The preparations are almost complete. Your mother and I will be on the West Wing if needed. Oh! And your presents are already in your room.” With a wink, King Bastia continued his walk to the West Wing. With two plates at hand, Hazel could only assume he was taking one to her mother for a little afternoon snack. It amazes her how her father seems to be under the spell of love whenever it comes to her mother. She wishes she could find someone like that. Someone who will stay with her through and through.

Before she made her way towards her room, she grabbed the attention of a servant.
“Marie! Cosette Swan and Elijah Hayes will be visiting me before the party. Please let them in when you see them.”

“Yes, princess.” She said with a polite and teasing smile,
“Marie, I told you Hazel is fine, please.”
Hazel chuckled at herself and gave Marie a lady-like smile. Marie returned the favour and gave the princess a nod before Hazel ascended to the second floor, towards her room.

When she opened her large double door, she was greeted by the sight of her doves and mice patiently waiting for her. Hazel greeted them with a smile; a pleasant rush of joy spread through her as the sight of her friends welcomed her. The doves elegantly flew a silk dress down to her bed while the mice worked together to gather the golden rings for her hair. Hazel quickly changed into her silk dress and donned her golden intricate corset. When she fully dressed herself and the golden rings were settled, Hazel gave her animal friends a quick thank you as they dispersed when they heard a foreign knock.

Marie introduced a tall man with milky white eyes Hazel knew as none other than Elijah Hayes. Hazel clapped her hands together in excitement, seeing a friend. Her excitement doubled when she remembered why the blind boy had come to her. For him to trust her is exceptionally crucial to Hazel, and she doesn’t want to disappoint him. For him to be under her care, he shall receive nothing but the best. Hazel sprinted to the corner of her room where her purchase from Christian Hansen Dior came, her heels creating excited clicks. It would be typical for Hazel to ignore the mountain of gifts for her, only to focus on the gifts she bought for her friend. She gave the items to Eli and waited patiently for him to change.

Hazel noticed his fidgeting as he inspected the clothes by touch. Hazel chuckled at his remarks, finding his wit amusing.
“Believe me, the men will envy you when I’m done with you. You’ll be wearing Hans Christian Dior and the clothes I got you rather accentuate your silhouette, which is the number one rule in fashion.”
She held his hands in reassurance, and even though he couldn’t see her dimpled smile, she still smiled at him.
“You will look delightful, trust me! And! You’re rather well built; if anything, the ladies will rather enjoy quite the sight.”
Hazel silently wished it was Kryos who was in front of her. With a slight chuckle, she turned towards a smaller bag where she purchased silver jewellery for the man.
“I also didn’t know your finger sizes, so I got you a whole collection of silver rings to put on. You can keep them too if you want. They’re from the local jeweller who creates some of the finest and intricate ring designs.”

She handed the box to Eli so he could try the rings that would fit him. Hazel also grabbed another box containing the long, silver necklace she got him, but Marie's sweet and polite voice interrupted her focus before she could pull the necklace out. Hazel turned towards the door. “Cosette Swan here to see you.” Once she said that, Hazel’s smile brightened into a broad smile, her dimples showing her apparent happiness at her friend’s presence. She settled the argent necklace back into its box and marched towards the door.

Hazel opened the door for her to enter and greeted her with a warm and tight hug. She was extremely excited to be surrounded by her friends.
“Cosi! Come in! How have you been?! It felt ages since I last saw you!”
Hazel beamed at her presence, looked at Eli, and then back at Cosi.
“Eli is also going to be with us; I hope that’s alright for you.”

“And the bathroom is over there if you need to change.”
Hazel whispered at Cosi, pointing at the door to the washroom. She knew the curly-haired maiden would appreciate the privacy given to her, especially after learning how her relationship with her mother was.

“Please feel free to make yourselves at home, both of you.”
Hazel addressed the two of them as she walked back to the silver necklace for Eli. It wasn't until she stood beside him that she realised that putting the necklace on him would be rather challenging to reach. His tall stature silently intimidated her the more she stood close to him.

With a sigh, Hazel shyly and gently tapped his shoulder to catch his attention.
“Could you please slightly lean down for me so I could put these necklaces around you?”
she asked politely. Hazel had to remind herself that she must trust him as much as he now trusts her.

After Hazel gets Eli sorted out, she can’t wait to do her hair with Cosi. Her vanity table holds dye creams that would temporarily dye their hair gold or silver. Hazel couldn’t wait to try the product out with Cosi. Hazel tried visualising a silver-haired Eli, and she shivered in horror at the thought. His dark hair suited him more, and the temporary silver dyes she bought were almost the shade of platinum. A familiar white-haired prince comes to mind, making her heart skip a beat.

Of course, only he can truly pull off the colour silver.
She thought as her smile grew at the thought of Kryos, the prince of ice and snow who managed to thaw and warm her heart at the first sight of him.

Kryos

the royal son of the snow queen & king

The Journey to EAI
The rise of the vibrant and warm sun marked Krýos' second year at the prestigious Ever After Institute. Krýos remembered his first year like it was yesterday. Nobody, not even the pale-skinned prince could've predicted that his first year would have been as successful as it was. Popularity was the hallmark of his freshman year and he was the IT boy of EAI. Growing up, Krýos was thrown into the social world as a prominent figure of his royal family, being the only child of the Snow Queen & King, and of course the rightful heir to the icy throne. He was familiar with the nitty-gritty details of formal events such as lavish parties, soirees, fundraisers, and charity events. Over time, he learned to be more open, laidback, and most importantly, adaptable to any environment he was thrown in. But, his anxiety would still bite at him now and then, which unfortunately convinced him he'd have the worst time ever at EAI.

As Krýos sat in his family's horse-drawn carriage, he practiced deep breathing exercises to help calm him down before his grand arrival. Unlike last year, the Snow Queen & King did not accompany their dear son on his journey to school. Which, surprisingly, was Krýos' decision. He had decided that if he wanted to fully overcome his anxiety, he would need to leave not only his parents behind but also their comforting words of advice and his mother's handholding that helped calm him during these episodes. The ride to school was only two hours long but Krýos felt it was necessary to leave two hours early so he would have time to ready himself for his first day. The longer the ride, the better as it gave the prince some more time to journal his thoughts and other tidbits for the day, leaving him with an open and empty mind. He had no clue in mind for what the new year would bring him but if it was anything like last year's, he'd be just fine. As he felt the carriage slow down, he closed his journal lightly, clicked the lock in place, and let out a shaky breath. Krýos packed his belongings into his bag and slipped on his white gloves which prevented him from accidentally frosting items and others. He looked out his window at the beautiful castle before him and the swarm of students standing all around. The door swung open and he stepped out, ready to conquer the day and year.

The First Day
As Krýos politely made his way through the packed crowd of people, his eyes darted side to side as he registered the new and old faces all around him. A few of his friends passed by, giving him a pat on the shoulder or a quick greeting. He was glad nobody had the time to completely stop him because he wanted to make it to his dorm as quickly as possible. Finally, after what felt like a neverending walk, he made it to the wooden doors of EAI and pulled them open with caution. Just like outside, the inside was even more chaotic, with students yelling, laughing, and running around. Krýos had mixed emotions about his surroundings. Part of him felt happy and nostalgic as he thought back on his first day which mirrored perfectly with today. And the other part of him just wanted everyone to clear out and let it be him and his thoughts. Once again, he made his way through the crowds, down to the front office. As he waited in line, he thought about all his friends he missed so much. Even though he stayed in contact with them, seeing them in person always beat writing them letters or sending a text. Approaching the desk, he sucked in a deep breath of air and slowly let it out to help focus on his words. "Good morning." The woman at the desk looked up at him and he stuttered for a second before spitting out "Ghiaccio." Mentally, he cursed himself for his stutter but the unamused look of the gray-haired woman threw him off. She dug through the stack of files in front of her and threw it across the desk. He gulped and grabbed it quickly, knocking a few papers out of place. He spit out a quick apology and turned on his heel darting back through the crowd.

With shaky hands, he opened the manila file and skimmed through each paper quickly. Krýos checked his class list, which was almost the same as last year's and he folded it up neatly, sticking it into his bag. Next in the stack was his dormitory information and he skimmed through til he found who his roommate was. The paper read "Nerida Merrowe.” The Daughter of The Little Mermaid. Krýos didn’t know much about the princess but did know that her parents had been to his family’s castle more than once. They were friends of his parents but he never interacted with their daughter. He tucked the paper into his bag and discarded the others in a trash can he found nearby. So far the day had been pretty chill, nothing he couldn’t handle and nothing that triggered his anxiety other than the sour-faced front desk lady. He made his way down the winding halls, looking for his dorm amongst the many, many dorms.

As he walked, he thought about Hazel Cinders party he’d be attending later that day. Ever since he met her at the ripe age of eight years old. They hit it off pretty well and have become close friends ever since. Close enough for Krýos to develop a very deep crush on her. There was something about Hazel that made her stand out from everyone else. She had this charm he couldn’t get enough of and her beauty and regality just added to her overall personality. He wasn’t quite sure if the crush was mutual, he assumes it is but even thinking about asking her flat out gives him cold feet. (no pun intended)

Before he knew it, Krýos had reached his hall and walked right past his dorm. He stopped abruptly and walked backward until he was face to face with his door. He turned the handle and stepped in, smiling from ear to ear. Krýos was very pleased with himself because he made the smart decision to have his room decorated to his liking weeks before school started so he had nothing to unpack and put away. He was certain that his roommate had already been to the dorm but he didn't pay any mind to it as his clear mind was now clouded. Krýos paced around his space, taking in his surroundings which was calming since his dorm mirrored his room back at home, minus the freezing cold temperatures. The only thing Krýos had to do before Hazel's party was change into his dress shoes. He had chosen to wear his party attire to school, minus the gold chain body harness which left him in a very nice white suit. After switching his shoes, he very carefully pulled out a black velvet box. He very carefully opened the lid, revealing a shiny golden body harness, adorned with small diamonds. A very pricey purchase but you can't put a price tag on looking stylish. The harness lay perfectly on his torso and he stared at himself in the mirror, turning slowly side to side to make sure everything was perfect. On his way out, he grabbed his bottle of Han's Christian Dior cologne which he generously spritzed on. Krýos swung open his door, holding a very nice velvet bag in one hand which contained many luxurious gifts for Hazel, he stepped out into the hall, shutting his door gently. Back outside in the warm weather, his carriage waited for him. Once inside, he checked his phone and the time read 4:45 PM, perfect timing for his departure. Krýos sent a text to his courtier, who had Hazel's biggest gift en route to her castle. The coachman yelled out to the horses to get them going and Krýos was on his way.

Hazel's Party
Krýos arrived at 5 o'clock on the dot and he made his way into the castle which was booming with lively music, laughter, and chatter. He greeted those around him and had his velvet bag with gifts taken by a tall man in formal attire. Krýos walked around some, taking in the familiar surroundings he remembered as a child. This visit though was particularly fancy as Hazel's family went big for her birthday. Gold decor sparkled all around and the attention to detail was exquisite. While doing his walkaround, Krýos spotted a familiar-looking face. Adonis Kingsley, the son of Queen Belle and The Beast. Adonis' look didn't seem quite welcoming but Krýos knew he could change that. He approached Adonis with a smile and gave him an introduction/greeting. "Hi there. My name is Krýos." He extended his hand and Adonis shook it hesitantly. "I couldn't help but notice you looked a bit down and well, I've been told I know how to lighten the mood with just my presence so I decided to give it a shot." Krýos let out a dry laugh because Adonis did not look amused. Krýos realized he'd have to put his charm into overdrive to get anywhere with him. After a few more tries, the curly-haired man finally loosened up some and was surprisingly letting Krýos in on his feelings/thoughts. The two chatted for a few more minutes and Krýos gave him some words of advice and reassurance. And before he knew it, the duo was walking to Hazel's party and Adonis looked a bit more content than a few minutes ago.

hazel's party.
the tension from adonis' shoulders began to roll off his back the deeper he walked into hazel's palace of grandeur. and while he took two stairs each on his way to the east wing, he threw an occasional nod at his new company: kryos ghiaccio.

'the ice prince' title couldn't be more inaccurate the more kingsley listened in to his voice of reassurance, internally appreciating the time his peer took to ensure his arrival was smooth. in fact, his personality was a refreshment of warmth to blast away the shadows that seemed to hover wherever he stood. adonis made sure to keep his expectations low coming to ever after institute to avoid disappointment—nobody could diminish his high hopes if he never had any in the first place—but, it was still nice to be proven wrong. especially by a royal family member he recognized from his times in the heartland kingdom.

if the rest harbored any inkling of kindness that measured to ghiaccio's, the year wouldn't be so unbearable to power through.

"well kryos, i just want to say 'thank you' for walking me inside. i appreciate it," some resemblance of a soft smile played on his features, easy to miss if one wasn't paying attention to him speak. nonetheless, it was there and gone within the same second. "honest."

before any awkward silence had the chance to form between them, adonis found himself continuing the conversation. "so what's it like back at school? assuming you've been there longer than i have..," he asked with genuine curiosity. part of him wanted to know what exactly he was getting into aside from the college parties and drama he knew he couldn't avoid even if he tried. once he rekindled with winter and hazel, his two beautiful confidants, he knew there was no such thing. not just because he knew they enjoyed indulging in social outings, but because he felt obligated to shadow them in new places. a good friend held the responsibility of protecting each other if they could, and adonis liked to think he was outstanding at it.

while waiting for his companion to answer, adonis found himself slowing his pace to familiarize himself with the grand canyon known as the east wing hallway. colorful tapestries as large as the eye could see decorated every inch of the marbled walls, depicting the tales of it's guests tonight. and despite not having been in hazel's castle for quite some time, it became habitual to avoid eye contact with his own.

still, a tinge of anger thought dormant flared to life despite being confined to the imprisonment of his heart. it wasn't enough to just gaze away from his stained-glass story that humiliated him to be a part of, adonis wanted it shattered across the lot he walked through earlier—there to stomp on for his peace of mind.

but a tale such as his own could never seem to die so long as the memory stayed within the minds of generations. adonis came to accept that his upbringing wasn't his own to tell so long as the sugar-coated version was alive to provide comfort for future princes and princesses happily waiting to accept their destinies. they were a group he refused to be a part of as long as king adam and queen belle were alive.

the sounds of blaring music and humanity pouring out of the east wing entrance were enough to pull adonis out of his emotional and mental misery, and enough for him to realize that his eyebrows were sewed together by tension. and even when he let out a sigh to restart his mood, it didn't compare to the waft of nostaglic warmth he felt seeing the familiar head of hair welcoming her guests.

it was none other than the birthday girl herself—the true fairest of them all—hazel cinders. one of two women that could only break the solemn mask he wore everywhere he went, their bond made clear the moment a real smile wrinkled the skin at the corners of his eyes as his steps drew him closer.

Before the party....

Now, Knox was a confident young man. Well earned at home as nearly everyone one might meet passing through Nottingham could point to something his hands fixed, or someone he has fed or assisted in some way. Confidence came easy to a man with an unending supply of community love.

And he felt very confident standing at Mitra’s door, in a borrowed gold shirt. Aurelian had fine taste and the means to provide the most luxurious button up shirt with short sleeves ever seen. The pants were his own: Black jeans with laces criss crossed down the leg, the bottoms of which were tucked into his boots. He adjusted the gold chain around his neck and brushed his freshly cut hair with his hand as the doorknob turned and Mitra appeared.

“Your royal highness,”
Knox took a step back, exaggerating his reaction (only slightly) to his gorgeous friend standing in front of him.
“Mitra Ababwa, is it possible you got more fierce over the break?”
He clapped his hands together, touching his fingertips to his chin as he gazed lovingly at his platonic companion.
“I swear, you’re nearly as handsome as me.”
A wide and open smile spread across his face and he laughed as he lifted the royal into a big bear hug, planting a loud kiss on the top of their head.

As they walked out of the dormitory building to Mitra’s truck, Knox caught Mitra up on the goings on in Nottingham over the break. About how his community came together through a harsh winter.
“No one went hungry, and we were able to finish the new shelter by the yuletide,”
he said with gleaming pride in his eyes. He continued catching Mitra up on how his family was, the conversations with his mother when they would stay up late by the fireplace, and the rowdy shenanigans with his father at Friar Tuck’s Tavern.

As Mitra’s truck rolled into the drive of Hazel’s castle, Knox made a mental note to ask Mitra about their break and how their family is. He was of course happy to talk the whole drive over, but his friend had the propensity to take the sidecar in conversations. Since deepening their relationship, Knox has been mindful of this quality in them, wanting to make sure Mitra felt as comfortable opening up with him as he is with them.

The castle itself was grander than Knox could ever possibly imagine. He loved his friend Hazel, but there was always an underlying upset about the overindulgence of it all.
“It’s bigger than it looks from town, eh?”
His hands were deep in his pockets as he shrugged towards his friend. The lifestyle of the rich royals was far from anything Knox had ever known.

He was about to say something else to Mitra, when the hum of a car engine interrupted his thought. A red convertible came down the drive at an alarming speed. The car could only belong to one future Queen: Winter White. Someone Knox ended up spending too much time with despite his full disagreement with her entire lifestyle, simply due to his friendship with Mitra, Aurelian, and Hazel. Just as well as she didn’t care much for him either.

The brunette royal exited her car and breezed past the pair. Sweetly greeting her friend Mitra and a cold acknowledgement to Knox as she entered the castle. Knox was well aware of his friend’s admiration of the princess, whether they realized it or not. He gave Mitra a knowing look and a hearty chuckle before following them into the castle.

The inside of the castle was more overwhelming than the outside. Paintings, statues, trophies and gold. Everywhere. It took some moments before he realized he had been standing with his mouth agape, processing the ornate splendor.
“You go on up. I’ll stay here,”
he said to Mitra, figuring it would be best to leave them to reunite with their close friends. He could entertain himself in the meantime.

The portraits of notable heroes and foes of their history lined the walls. Knox was surprised to find a portrait of his father, Robin Hood, depicted heroically in his famed kelly green tunic and hat, surrounded by The Merry Men who Knox had known his whole life. Such a splendid representation, though he knew his father would have some words to say about his likeness being found in such a place. Nothing could have prepared him for the most macabre sight of all.

Mounted over the doorway, decorated in extravagant fashion for the party, was The Big Bad Wolf himself. Out of place, almost on purpose suggesting a deep pride in the kill of the notorious villain. A shudder rose in his body from deep in the pit of his stomach. As much as he and Benji had a mixed opinion of each other, part of him hoped his ex friend was planning to skip the festivities to save him the discovery.

Quickly, Knox turned away from the trophy, whistling a pleasing tune to himself in efforts of lightening his own mood, moseying around the room. He heard the rustling of fabric and steps from the top of the stairs and turned, ready to find a friend. The tune he was whistling died on his lips when he discovered who was descending the stairs.

A grin on Marquis face appeared as they looked at the always fashionable Aurelian adjusting their weight from one foot to the other. They had gone for the more of the gold theme and they had to admit- it suited the prince well.

“You look positively ravishing,” the other commented and they shrugged.

“Alway’s gotta be prepared for when I decided to heist a casino,”
they half joked with a chuckle and from their pockets pull out 6 small bottles, unlabeled but clearly the size and shape of a few shots.

“Well, shall we? Hazel certainly will not wait for the likes of us.”

“Oh yes, and I got just a little gift for you for taking me all the way over,”
the said, shoving three towards the prince as they followed them to the car, waving to the working people, and swiping their pockets to see if they had anything - and much to the cat’s disappointment came out empty handed as they stepped into the car.

“I have to say, I know this year has just started but, I must find out all the gossip that happens and get good pictures for this announcement Hazel claims to have to put into the paper. Hoping to get the first article out by tomorrow if I pull an all-night.”
Mars despite their general attitude of not giving 2 fucks most times, they were at the same time very hardworking and smart, as if they didn’t have to try. Always plenty of steps ahead, always thinking about the next steps, living constantly between the present and the future, and never worrying too much about the past.

“However, to school, drink up, would be lame if we got there sober,”
they continued, opening their 3 shot bottles and quickly downing them one after another, their face only flinching slightly at the hard taste but it was rather delicious to say the least and as Aurelian would taste it, it was a high-end tequila, meaning that Mars somehow, somewhere, already was stealing on day one of school.

The car ride was smooth, and much faster than walking on foot, always glazing outside, struggling to stay still as a human as it did after some time feel unnatural, to have skin not covered in fur like normal but it was always better to communicate like this. As the car pulled up, something seemed, familiar.

The clean-cut crass, the perfect grey-stone background, the birds that flew in the sky, the fountain at the entrance. It was rare that Mars would enter the party at the front, but this one did, they decided to do so and they for a noticeable amount of time would stare at the fountain in the front, their ears perking up and their tale thrashing, almost captivated by it, as if they were lost in a memory. Even the sound of a door opening wouldn’t be enough to draw Mars's attention away.

“It seems…familiar…I almost experienced death near a similar fountain as a kit,”
they thought aloud, seeming to come back to reality as the blurry image of a young girl with beautiful curly hair entered their mind, stepping out of the car and forcefully drawing their attention to the entrance, glancing around the building now outside. Banners, well-kept stone, beautiful sprawling front lawn, ornate fountains, and the smell, seemed familiar, Mars sniffing the air slightly.

“Must be crazy - lead the way, Lian,”
they said, at last returning their attention to their dear friend and best sleeping buddy, smiling brightly that always had a bit of mischief behind it.

Hazels' Castle
Amor 606 606
As the door opened revealing Amor a wave of relief rushed over Piper that she had in fact made it to the right door but as she took in her best friends nervous expression she couldn't help the amused laugh that exploded from her chest. Her body involuntarily bending forwards as the laugh overtook her. After a moment she managed to stop laughing and regain her breath and straightened herself as Amor opened the door more into her apartment.

"No rush at all take your time" Piper assured her as she followed her into the dorm room. Her eyes scanning the room to see if it was any different to hers , not that she expected it to be.

it would be pretty cool if they did every dorm room differently, like if they purposely designed the room to tailor to the students story or likes, omg a neverland room with a waterfall and a ......

Lost in her own thoughts, Piper was unaware that Amor had even left the room but as she came back in in an entirely different outfit, Piper was confused as to how she long she had been standing there thinking about rooms. Turning to Amor, Piper grinned as she took in her outfit "Oh you look beautiful" she gushed.

As Amor complimented her Piper did a twirl before striking a ridiculous pose in response, the grin never faltering from her expression "If there's a best dressed we're definitely winning" she laughed but there was an unmistakable air of confidence in her tone and expression.

"I cant wait to dance and see the castle" excitement bubbled in her voice as she practically bounced in her place moving from foot to foot as her impatience of not being there yet starting to rise. "Okay are you good to go?" she asked

***

The flight to Hazel's castle was nice and quick and given that she had a companion, Piper found herself to be a lot more well behaved on this trip. Flying at a reasonable speed and not trying to make it an obstacle course by going through trees again. The last thing she wanted was to injure herself on the way to the party, especially since her makeup was back in her dorm. One scratch was enough.

As they landed in front of Hazel's castle, Pipers eyes widened in awe and she turned to look at Amor to see if she was having the same response "OH MY GOD ITS GIGANTIC" Piper basically shouted, each word overly emphasized as though she was trying to pick the correct words as she spoke. "Although...." she looked at Amor as her eyes squinted for a moment as though in deep thought. "You live with the Gods, I say this is nothing to you but I'll tell you right compared to my house in a tree stump, this is like a city and not even a small one a ...." Music sounding from the house broke Piper's overexaggerated babbling as she seemed to remember why they were there.

"Oh the party yes come on lets go in" she squealed excitedly as she spun in a circle before linking her arm with Amor's as they walked towards the front door.

As soon as they entered the castle, Piper began to immediately scan the crowd to find someone they knew but due to it being virtually impossible for her to see over the people all around she quickly gave up on the idea and just hoped that those she wanted to see would find her or more likely that she would run into them later. Biting her lip Piper looked around them before a smirk played on her expression and she looked up at Amor "I know what we need" her tone was innocent but her eyes would lead someone to believe something more mischievous was going on. Taking Amor's hand in her own, Piper quickly and expertly maneuvered them through the crowd and to the bar. Having only arrived at the party, Piper had to say even she was impressed with her homing mechanism to alcohol and how she always seemed to be able to find it or "sniff it out" as they say.

"Shots" she shouted with her arms raised either side as she revealed her great idea to Amor, a childlike grin on her expression as she bounced on the spot before turning to the bar and getting two shots. Handing one to Amor before immediately downing her own.

“Cosi?”
A familiar voice answered first. Hazel already had a guest, and fortunately, it was someone Cosette did like. Her gaze darted around the room and quickly landed on him. But she barely had time to process it before Hazel stepped into her line of sight.

“Cosi! Come in! How have you been?! It felt like ages since I last saw you.”
Hazel’s face practically lit up as she opened the door the rest of the way.
“Eli is also going to be with us; I hope that’s alright for you.”

“And the bathroom is over there,”
she whispered, pointing to the door on her left. Cosette nodded, punctuating it with a smile to show her gratitude. Hazel was always very considerate. It was a trait Cosette had discovered when she first met the young royal and one that she never seemed to outgrow. And Cosette loved her for it.

Hazel moved towards the vanity and Cosette shot a glance in Eli’s direction. She was thrilled to see the silver-haired young man. He was one of a few people that she didn’t try to avoid. She even spent time with him here and there. A smirk tugged on her lips.
“No, it’s not fine. I dislike him immensely.”
Her voice dripped with playful sarcasm and she took another step towards the young man.
“You look great, by the way, Eli. Hazel’s done a wonderful job.”
Glancing at her friend, she added with another smirk,
“And you know I wouldn’t lie to you about it.”

“Please feel free to make yourselves at home, both of you.”
Hazel grabbed a silver necklace for Eli off the vanity and headed towards him.

“Thank you, Hazel. It’s good to see you. Both of you.”
Cosette set her bag down and grinned at her friend.
“I’m going to get changed.”

She located the dress Hazel had held on to for her and went to the washroom to change. The golden dress had feathers wrapped around her chest and waist that cascaded into a miniskirt. Straps held the dress in place, with giant, gossamer wings attached to the back. Grabbing a comb off the counter, she dampened her hair and worked through the knots. Hazel mentioned that she had some temporary dye to add to her hair, which would color it gold. By the time they were finished, Cosette would look just like a gilded swan.

She started playing with some gold makeup, adding the metallic color to her eyelids, and dusting her cheeks, chest, and arms with glitter. It was extravagant, but she loved it all the same. When she finished, she gave a cursory glance in the mirror before exiting the washroom and returning to Hazel’s bedroom.

She and Hazel had spent so much time in this room, braiding each other’s hair and spilling secrets. Back when life was simpler. When neither understood the weight of their destiny.

But being back here, helping each other get ready for a party was almost enough to take her back to that. To let her feel like life was infinitely simpler and more beautiful than it was. And at least this was a close second.

“Well? What do we think?”
Cosette gave a small twirl.
“Too much? Not enough?”

While she didn’t trust Hazel to be entirely honest (she was sometimes too sweet for her own good), she knew her friend could boost her confidence when needed. And this was a moment where she didn’t mind being lied to.

Hazel helped Cosette put the temporary dye in her hair, and soon enough her brown locks were streaked with shiny gold. And they pinned a gold headband across her forehead and into her hair. She did the same for her friend, catching up on all that had happened over break. Including Cosette’s argument with her mother, and the various escapades she and Thistle had embarked on. And slowly, slowly the anxiety that had built up in her from the moment she had woken up started to dissipate. There were few people Cosette trusted as much as Hazel. For that reason and more, she thought of the princess as her sister. And she was, in everything other than blood.

Just when Cosette thought things couldn’t be better, Hazel gave her a small rectangle covered in fancy paper. She narrowed her eyes.
“What is this?”
She turned it over, weighing it in her hands. It was their tradition when they were little. To spend their birthdays together and exchange presents. They often made it weeklong, pampering themselves and spending nearly every day together. But with school, that wasn’t quite as feasible. And yet, Hazel still found a way to keep the tradition alive. Even just a little bit.

Eyeing her friend once more, Cosette started to unwrap the present carefully. Her breath caught in her throat when she spied the dark leather cover with gilded writing on the front. She flipped through the pages. Her eyes caught on titles she knew and loved. Throat tightening, she looked up at her friend and smiled.
“Oh my god, Hazel, it’s beautiful. Thank you so much.”
She wrapped her arms around the smaller girl and squeezed tight for a few moments.
“I really missed you.”

Pulling back, she pressed her pointer finger by the corners of her eyes, drying up the tears that started to pool there.
“I’m going to leave it up here for now so nothing happens to it, but I’ll come back and grab it before we return to school.”

She tucked the book away on one of the chairs, along with the rest of her discarded clothing and shoes. And soon enough there was a knock at the door, informing everyone that guests were beginning to arrive. Cosette’s heart skipped a beat or two. As much as she liked parties, the one downside to Hazel being the hostess was that she would be occupied for most of the night. Meaning Cosette would have to brave socializing on her own. Fortunately, if she was overwhelmed she could always come upstairs and read. Hazel had assured her of that.

Cosette grabbed a gold wristlet purse from a little hook. Slipping her phone inside, lipstick, tissues, and other important items, she placed it over her wrist. She glanced over her shoulder.
“I’ll find you later once you’ve had time to see everyone.”

And with that, she steeled her nerves, exiting the room before she could chicken out. She would find Mitra to catch up, and make her hellos to the other people she tolerated. Perhaps at that point, Hazel would be free. Or Cosette could find another task to busy herself with.

She descended the stairs towards one of the main halls. Her eyes traced the walls, landing on numerous paintings and trophies. For a brief moment, she wished she could reach up and rip them down. It was no insult to the artist. Whoever it was captured the scenes beautifully, but seeing people’s real and brutal fates depicted in such a romanticized way was sickening. She tore her gaze away and kept moving.

Whistling floated up, catching in the cavernous ceiling and falling back down. Cosette frowned, pulse quickening. There were only a few people who whistled like that. She halted on the last landing, ten steps from the bottom. And there, just as she predicted, was Knox Hood.

A few emotions bubbled to the surface. Annoyance, curiosity, and another one she couldn’t quite name. Still, she schooled her face into a cool indifference. He dressed for the theme in a gold shirt, dark pants, lace-up combat boots, and a gold chain necklace. He must have borrowed it since most other times he was in one of three shirts. Still, she had to give whoever styled it credit. They had a keen eye for fashion and an understanding of who this young man was at his core. The outfit still screamed roguishness. And she had to admit, he certainly wasn’t bad to look at.

Not that she would ever say that out loud.

“Hello, Knox.”
She descended the steps, gold heels making little indents in the soft carpet.
“Is Mitra with you?”

Somehow her friend was close to Knox Hood, which still baffled Cosette. Knox somehow managed to irritate her even when he wasn’t doing anything. Yet. She reminded herself. He was trouble. Reckless. Dangerous. A shameless flirt. She had managed to attract his attention and so far hadn’t been able to get rid of it despite making it very clear she had no interest in him. Meaning he was either stubborn as hell or perhaps just an idiot. Or both. Her money was on the latter.

Her shoes hit the marble floor with a little click.
“Hazel is just upstairs with some of the others. Should I let her know you’re here?”

Ravenna Nightshade
rebel daughter of the evil queen
With the bright sun beaming down, birds chirping from high branches, and a cool breeze flowing through the air, it could only mean one thing: spring has sprung. A new season means a new school year, something that Ravenna Nightshade has been dreading for the longest. Once upon a time, about three years ago now, the Evil Queen came to her with the worst life-changing news. Ravenna had been involuntarily enrolled to attend the esteemed Ever After Institute and her mother was adamant about her daughter going. There seemed to be some sort of insecurity within the Evil Queen and in her mind, the only way of ensuring her only child, the heiress to her throne would assume supremacy was by sealing her fate with a simple signature in the Storybook of Legends. In Ravenna's eyes, her mother's logic did not make any sense at all because why would she waste all of those years spent training to become the next Evil Queen? Those days shaped her into the woman she is today and flushing that down the drain would essentially be ridding her of her womanhood. But to each their own. Nobody could outargue the Evil Queen so Ravenna keeps her lips sealed shut and just does as she's told. So, on this warm and bright sunny Spring day, she sat on her bed like a woman scorned, counting down the seconds until she had to depart the place she calls Home.

Being born a witch had its perks which made days like this one much easier on the daughter of darkness. Her luggage and bags were packed in the blink of an eye with a quick finger snap and her butler, Markos, had already lugged them down the grand staircase to load them into the family carriage. While she waited for her cue for departure, Ravenna sat on a throne-like chair in front of her vanity and began applying a few different makeup products to her eyes and face. As she patted on her paper white face powder, she thought about her mother who was currently facing a life sentence in the Mirror Realm. Not only was it the first day of a new school year, but it also happened to be the two-year anniversary of her mother's banishment. That day occupies a vast space in Ravenna's mind and it's a constant reminder of why she needs to be the wickedest queen the world has ever seen, to exact revenge on Baba Yaga and her horrible little son, and on everyone who played a part in the worst day of her life. Emotion doesn't come naturally to her but a situation like this could almost make her shed a tear or two. Her first year at school had concluded and it was also her first time venturing into the world as a villain, not just being known as "The Evil Queen's Daughter." And of course, to nobody's surprise, she was booed, hated on, and shunned by her peers. You'd think they would know better than to pick on the daughter of the most notorious fairytale villain but her first year at school proved different. It did not upset Ravenna that she wasn't celebrated or welcomed with open arms, instead, the response of her presence in the world made it somewhat difficult. How was she supposed to be queen if people picked on her and made fun of her? She yearned to be feared like her mother and the outcome was anything other than that. So, she knew she'd need to seek out guidance from her mother and sit through multiple old-fashioned lectures to succeed in her life of regal villainy. And she couldn't even do that. Her mother was ripped from her hands like a toy being taken by a child from a bully and she was left with nothing. Just an even emptier heart and no purpose in life. Ravenna was forced to take control of her life and learn the ropes herself. While it may not have been the worst thing to do, mentoring from her mother would've been nice. And that's why now, two years later, all her hard work paid off. She is feared by everybody and nobody dares get in her way. Her life as the next Evil Queen had begun and her reign of terror was going to burn hotter than hell.

"Miss Ravenna!!", a familiar voice shouted out, causing Ravenna to snap back into reality. "The carriage is packed and ready for departure!! Hurry now, you mustn't be late!" She rose from her chair and reached for her haversack which held her necessities. Her room mirrored her soul, dark and empty, devoid of all meaning since it had been cleared out of all her belongings. She swiftly but gracefully made her way down the winding staircase and out the grand doors of her castle. Other residents of the Dark Forest came together to ride to school in a rundown transit bus that looked as if it had been used as a basketball by giants. And Ravenna gladly left that mode of transportation to others as she preferred to arrive in style and class. Before her awaited an obsidian black carriage, pulled by four Friesian horses, and a coachman dressed head to toe in black. Markos waited patiently by the door, waiting for her word. Ravenna took her time taking in her surroundings. She'd miss her home, the only place that had character and the only place that'd never turn on her. Leaving behind the withering old trees, muddy terrain, and the fresh stench of death and rot in the air almost brought tears to her eyes. With a quick motion to her butler, the carriage door opened and she stepped inside. A tray on a table waited for her with a cup of black coffee and her journal ready for her to write. The horses were set into motion and her trip had begun. As the carriage pulled off, she watched out the window as everything she was comfortable with grew smaller by the mile. Letting out a contemptible sigh, she flipped open her journal and wrote down the date. With that, she began jotting down thoughts and ideas, mostly Machiavellian, for the new year ahead of her.

·:*¨༺ ♱⛧♱ ༻¨*:·
The ride to Ever After Institute was shorter than it usually is thanks to advanced magic but Ravenna wished it took longer. She was not ready to be thrown into the hustle and bustle of first-day festivities. As her carriage slowed to a stop, she peered out the small rectangular window, and her face immediately contorted into a look of disgust. Hundreds and hundreds of students, professors, and parents surrounded the courtyard before her, all of them either laughing, crying, or chatting very loudly. She rolled her eyes in annoyance and pulled the curtain shut. A long and exasperated sigh escaped her mouth as the door opened once again for her to step out. It took a minute or two for her to gather herself and when she put one foot out, she almost jerked it back in. But she wasn't going to let something as minuscule as prissy pink princesses and snobby entitled princes get the best of her. She's Ravenna fucking Nightshade, daughter of the Evil Queen, and the most feared person in all of the Fairytale Realm. Today was going to be her day and she wouldn't dare let anyone or anything ruin it. As she fully emerged from her carriage, she squinted her eyes from the glaring sun. Her eyes darted from side to side, scanning her surroundings and taking in the shit show before her. Ravenna took one last good look at her ride and she made her way through the crowd. One thing she never had to say was "excuse me" in a situation like this one. The crowd parted like the Red Sea and voices either fell silent or into low whispers. Moments like this cheered her up some because she knew she was hot shit and only her presence had the power to strike fear into others. Ravenna elegantly made her way through the cleared path, smirking at the things being said to her as she passed through. Exactly how commoners should act in the presence of royalty.

The grand wooden doors of EAI swung open for her and she made her way inside which wasn't any better than outside. It seemed to be louder and more crowded than what she was just in. But like clockwork, a path opened up for her and she made her way through, all the way down to the front office. A long line had formed from the desk and wrapped down the halls. Ravenna simply "cut" the line and when her turn came, the woman handling files let out a small gasp and Ravenna could see fear twinkling in her eyes. "Ms. Nightshade, how are you?" the woman let out in a frightened tone. The question was ignored and her file was snatched from the poor woman's hands. She winked at the woman, elegantly leaving her desk, and standing off to the side to read what was all inside. Which to her was all useless information she had learned years before. The only important thing was who she'd be rooming with this year. As she pulled out the folded paper, her eyes widened and her jaw dropped. a "No. Fucking. Way." slipped out of her mouth, a bit loudly and others surrounding her shuffled away in fear. Ravenna blinked her eyes rapidly in hopes that the name she was reading would form into another but alas it didn't. It stayed the same. The same name it was a few blinks ago. "Winter White" read the paper in red cursive. She almost gagged. What moron had the genius fucking idea to pair her with not only her sworn enemy but her mother's as well??? The White's were the bane of Ravenna's existence. Oh, how she loathed those stuck-up snobby imbeciles. Rage made her hands shake so hard that the paper crumbled on the sides, slightly ripping in the process. This could be a very easy fix. A quick spell and all her problems would be gone in a flash. As she debated that idea, a lightbulb lit up in her head. Instead of being all hot and bothered, she realized what this could mean for her. Ravenna has the chance to make Winter's life a living hell this year. Torturing and taunting her every single day would bring such abundant joy and when the time is right, a simple apple would put an immediate and permanent end to all of this. As the idea danced in her, the evilest grin slowly spread across her face. Tucking the paper away into her bag, she left the office to make her way to her dorm. Where she caught herself skipping halfway through her walk, quickly stopping to compose herself.

Upon arriving at the door of her dorm, she stopped abruptly and let out a dry gag due to the smell coming from her dorm. Ravenna pulled out a handkerchief and covered her nose as she entered. The awful stench let her know that the spoiled brat had already come and gone, leaving behind a sugary, sweet smell that gave her a splitting headache. Once inside her dorm, she moved swiftly across to her area to light some candles and incense with a better more comforting smell. As the scents burned, she let out a relieved sigh and sat on the corner of her bed. Being at EAI wasn't the worst thing in the world since they did go above and beyond with the luxury experience but nothing would ever bring her the same comfort as her room does. All of her belongings sat stacked up neatly against her wall and with a quick clap, her suitcases and bags unpacked themselves, clothing and more flying through the air to their respectable places. Ravenna did not have anything planned for her evening, she always skipped first-day assemblies and festivities since those events alone made her want to gouge her eyes out. But as she made her way across the dorm when she first entered, she couldn't help but notice an invitation flyer to a certain princess's birthday party. Hazel Cinders, daughter of Cinderella was having a birthday party and upon further inspection, she read in small print that everyone was invited, Royals and Rebels. Normally, like any sane person, she'd skip things like these to save herself from endless torture from the constant yapping that came from Royals but surprisingly, she was interested in going, just to see how things would go and to maybe stir up some trouble herself.

The dress code read it was silver and gold themed to which Ravenna scoffed and rolled her eyes. Like she owned anything that fit the code. She picked out a black, floor-length lace tulle dress with a risque v-neck plunge she had custom-made from Hans Christian Dior. The dress beautifully hugged her physique in all the right places and was sure to turn heads. The black heels she chose paired perfectly with the dress and added a few more inches to her towering height. While her jewelry collection was neverending, she skipped adding a necklace to avoid taking away from the flower detailing on her dress and instead settled on a pair of black diamond shard earrings. Ravenna moved over to her mirror to give herself a quick lookover before heading out. Usually, she'd go with her hair down, but today she decided to go for an updo which helped show off every detail of her outfit. Finally, she spritzed on her favorite perfume and threw some things into a black clutch, not forgetting her spellbook, which would be vital for the night. As she went to head out, she heard a small noise come from Winter's side of the dorm. Her eyes scanned the room and found the noise coming from what looked like a mound of feathers. It was a white cat and she knew it was her roommate's vermin. Shockingly, it made its way over to her, rubbing its head on her dress. Ravenna jerked back, grabbing the bottom of her dress. "Move back, you stupid cat!" She looked down at her dress and dusted off some white fur. Luckily the cat had a collar on and Ravenna leaned down to read the name. The name, "Blizzard" was etched in cursive. "How creative," She thought as she rolled her eyes. Rav stood back up and headed for the door, thinking about how she'd need to keep her bedroom door locked or one of her pets might eat Winter's. She made her way down the hall and back to her awaiting carriage to head to Hazel's castle.

If Ravenna thought Ever After Institute was bad, she ain't seen nothing yet. The castle of Cinderella was more of an eyesore than the school's and the inside was worse. Gold decor was hung everywhere and the volume of the music was deafening. She couldn't even hear her own thoughts. Like at school and literally everywhere else, the crowd of people parted and she made her way through. As she beelined to a table with what looked like some juice, she noticed a lot of familiar faces, even the ones she never interacted with. A migraine crept its way through her brain and she cursed to herself quietly. Pulling her spellbook out, she flipped through the pages until she found a spell that would ease her pain. Soon after casting it, Ravenna felt much better and like she could maybe do with some light interaction. Sipping her juice, she moved out of the corner and into the crowd, in the hope of finding someone sufferable enough to chat with.

Adorned in gold the two seemed to be. While Piper was fabulous dressed in gold, Amor had decided to go a more rose gold look, covering her mouth and laughing a little. Piper always brought so much energy into any room she was in and Amor couldn’t help but appreciate and love that about Piper. In the back of the next cupids mind, was the though of who Piper’s match might be. Someone who both matched her energy but maybe someone a bit more grounded, and someone who needed that energy Piper had around her.

“Oh please, I’m sure everyone is dressed well! I’m still learning about the fashion here,”
she commented and would lead the two out the door.

“But yes I am ready,”
she said and allowed Piper to lead them in the flight. Stepping outside Amor's wings would appear from nowhere and spread out wide, and her irises turning into heart shapes and pink as she leaped into the sky with one flap of her wings, revealing a shocking amount of strength the other whites fragile and kind Cupid had. During the flight, Amor could tell Piper seemed a bit more tamed but the speed of the two was still incredibly quick, Amor quite the agile and fast flier. After all, you had to be nimble and fast flying if you need to hit the right target.

————

Arrive to the party, amor gentle landed on the ground, making sure her footing was even before her wings folded back in and looked at the large castle in front of them then looked to Piper, who seemed absolutely stunned at the sight. This wasn’t Amors first time here either and she chuckled lightly.

“Ah, well, I would say Mount Olympus is a much different style than your traditional eastern style castle, plus I have been here before, I believe it was to help Hazel’s parents? It’s been awhile,”
she said.
“Yet it’s still amazing to see how such a structure has held up against time.”

The music also drew Amor's attention again, taking a deep breath and she would begin to walk up the stairs into the entrance as Piper would link arms with her, Amor jumping a little out of shock, eyes wide as she looked towards the other, wondering what the other was thinking of doing yet.

“Oh but Piper, I think there’s a—”
she started softly pointing to a table that had shots in the table and some writing but the other was off already not even giving Amor time to read the rules listed, her heart skipping a beat as while she isn’t perfect, Amor was bit of a goody two-shoes for better or for worse.

Being led pulled through the crowd of people, a few students who had arrived and she promised to help at the party would spot Amor and try to reach out yet Amor stumbled behind Piper and would look to the students trying to reach her and then to Piper and hold up a finger? Singling to give her a moment as her friend had plans for the two.

When they arrived at a bar, Amor took a second to compose herself, finally released from the grasp of the other as they declared they needed shots.

“Um, o-okay. But there was um, the rules and table-by the entrance,”
she breathed out as a shot was soon in front of Amor and cautiously took it, seeing the other down the shot. Amor was no light way, and way past even being considered a heavy weight. She did grow up drinking alcohol, most wine, thanks to Dionysus which she spent a lot of time with, and even possibly a blessing the other granted her as Amor still doesn’t know their alcohol limit yet, to play the game safe, Amor does try to be cautious when it comes to drinking. So Amor would also throw back the shot with ease, and gently set the glass down on the bar counter.

“There. It’s already busy here, and I’m afraid I might be too. Cupid's job never has a break! I told some students when I arrived I would hear them out at this party,”
she said, glancing around the crowd, waiting for them to appear at any moment.
“I probably should have just dealt with it earlier.”
Amor let out a slight sigh as they stared off into the crowd, their smile fading slowly.

Amor did love doing her job, helping with love as it’s a powerful force that not even the gods are immune too, so it can get messy without some help yet, this realm they are in, for a realm where many tales are formed around ideas of love and true love, or relationships at the very least, many people both don’t listen to her or trust her, so many hearts broken and relationships torn apart, love existing only occasionally in some hearts, making it painful for her at times. When a heart breaks her heart breaks 10 fold, and all Amor can do is smile through the pain. After all, she is there to help other people, not for people to help her.

Before the party…
Whispers of friendly banter filled the princess’ room. A pleasant feeling of electric excitement and delightful fulfilment filled her heart, seeing her friend relax in her presence. The princess was no stranger to overbearing parents that came along with their even more so tyrannical expectations and beliefs. And seeing the relief she brought to her friend was the most pleasant sight she had ever witnessed.

Hazel’s attention was snapped away from her thoughts as Cosi asked her a question. Hazel assessed her friend from head to toe as she spun herself. It took her a minute to respond as she appreciated the beauty in front of her. After all, Hazel found herself unable to lie, especially not to Cosi.

“Absolutely beautiful!”

No wonder a certain archer has their aim set on you.
Hazel chuckled, keeping her thoughts to herself. She walked towards the temporary dyes and opened the lid with a pop.
Now, here comes the fun part!

Beautiful!
Hazel thought to herself as she finished applying the golden dye to Cosi’s lush curls. She tucked a curl behind her ear and studied her makeup with purpose, ensuring her friend looked magnificent tonight. Hazel and Cosi knew each other very well. After all, Hazel’s earliest memory was of playing with her in a beautiful lake the two would often visit. A time before, expectations were slammed upon them like a hurricane. It’s no fault of her friend to follow what she desires for her well-being. While some royals would’ve looked at the swan maiden differently and with prejudice, Hazel looked at her from a place of love and care. To Hazel, Cosi will always be her best friend, sister, and confidante. And as long as her happily ever after involves her alive and well, then Hazel will wholeheartedly support her.

Hazel listened as Cosi told tales of her break and did the same when she told Cosi about the wonderful wedding of Grumpy and Bashful she attended with Winter White. Financed with the Queen’s funds, Hazel didn’t miss out on any extravagant details. During her break, Hazel has also been working on her Pegasus-riding skills and the new animal friends she found, particularly an extremely polite skunk couple that recently moved into the Enchanted Forest.

She felt the corners of her mouth tugging upwards at the mention of Thistle. Oh, how she missed this, not just Thistle but Cosi as well. The corners of her mouth tugged downwards just as quickly when she mentioned her mother. It’s never been a pleasant topic for her, and Hazel’s heart is immediately filled with sorrow and pity. While Hazel’s mother has overcome her overbearing nature, some cannot be said for her friends’ parents. Hazel cupped her friend’s face gently from the moment her eyes noticed her slowly rising anxiety. She knew her friend didn’t need any coddling; now, she needed some friendly support and perhaps the perfect time to present her with a gift to lighten the mood.

This is a gift Hazel has been diligently working on. During her break and the days approaching Cosi’s birthday, Hazel spent months gathering her favourite poems and old literature—a tradition the two would often share that stemmed from their near birth dates.

Hazel could feel her scepticism from the moment her hand touched the parchment. She couldn’t help but bite back a smile slowly bursting from her lips. Scepticism soon turned to realisation, and realisation turned to joy, and Hazel let out a relieved smile as she accepted the hug she received from the swan maiden.
“I missed you too, girl! I know it’s not much, but I’m glad it is to your liking.”

A knock and Marie’s voice informed the princess of the gathering people. Hazel then looked outside her window, and there she was, already seeing people slowly gathering. The guards followed her instructions, leading her guests inside and towards the East Wing. Nervousness enveloped her stomach; she genuinely hoped none of her guests would make her regret throwing a party in her ancestral castle.

“Oh gosh, they’re here!”
Excitement and anxiety filled her lungs. She slipped on her thigh jewellery, the final piece of her outfit and walked towards Cosi.
“I’ll see you later, Cosi! I’ll find you at some point in the party!”
Hazel swiftly kissed her cheek in a hurry and playfully booped her nose.

“Oh! Eli!”
The princess almost sounded surprised but quickly masked it with a smile.
“Come on, mouse boy. I’m dragging you with me!”
Hazel took the gigantic man’s hand and made their way down the steps. Hazel almost forgot Eli, but she’s not about to admit that, fearing his endless teasing. If there’s one thing Hazel knew about Eli, it is that he is a big tease.

She skipped past a tall five-layered cake, and her golden-tipped curls bounced as she swiftly turned her head towards the cake. No doubt her father’s doing. While Cinderella preferred minimalism, Basile Cinders lived for the highest quality royalty has to offer. She would've turned out spoiled and rotten without her mother’s humble and modest teachings. Hazel watched beside Eli as she listed the food slowly piled inside the East Wing. While the servants hurry and scutter about, the princess juggles entertaining Eli with a conversation and keeping an eye on the food and drinks.

Oh gosh, I hope there will still be leftovers for the maids and the guards. I have to thank them somehow.
Hazel thought to herself as her eyes scanned the food, slowly making its way towards the East Wing. Her mind was already filled with a few ways to thank them for the help she received. One maid oversaw everything, and Hazel smiled at the idea of giving Marie’s eldest son a scholarship to his dream college. Hazel’s mind immediately pinned that idea in her head and urged Eli to tell her about his break.

Hazel put a large, readable sign beside the table lined with shots near the entrance. A sign that reads “Hazel’s Party Rules.”

5:00 pm — Entrance to the East Wing
By the time people started pouring into the East Wing, they immediately greeted the princess. It’s only the beginning of the party, and the marble floor vibrates with music and energy. As far as she knows, there was no trouble in sight, though it is still too early to tell.

“Please tell me you feel as overwhelmed as I am,”
she told Eli as she fidgeted with her silk skirt and politely greeted the people passing her. Despite her sweet and soft voice, there was a clear hint of anxiety the princess tried to snuff out swiftly. It’s not the crowd that worries her; it is the troubling reputation some held.
“Any particular somebody you might be waiting on? Huh, Eli?”
Hazel playfully elbowed the tall man next to her. Alleviating the anxiety she felt. Though they’d been friends for quite some time now, Hazel still curiously wondered more about him.

Hazel caught a few whispers and gasps as two individuals approached the entrance. Hazel’s heart stopped for a moment.

Showered in rich gold and silver silks, she had seen the most beautiful things the royalty had to offer. Surrounded by beautiful friends with beautiful souls, the princess could see beyond the materialistic things and search for the good the people had to offer. There is beauty in everything her copper eyes could see. Hazel thought seeing her friend, Cosi, feel relaxed was the most beautiful sight she had ever seen. But she was proven wrong from the single glimpse of his ivory-white hair.

A bronze beauty and a silver dream brushed her golden gaze. When a Beauty enters a room, the allure they emit is understandable and expected. The world was aware of the exquisite appeal of a Beauty, and the air was thick with it. Despite the booming music filling the castle, attention gathered at the approaching princes. While the rest set their curious eyes on the sweet attraction of the eldest and only child of the Royal House of Kingsley, a pair of chocolate orbs were awestruck at the true beauty beside Adonis Kingsley.

Nobody could quite prepare her eyes for the irresistible sight of Krýos Snær Ghiaccio.

“Absolutely… Ethereal.”

She uttered her words in a whisper that only Eli could hear. She looked at the man beside her and knew his ears caught her embarrassment. She could already feel her cheeks burning into a bright shade of red. She simply hopes Eli remains clueless about who her compliment was about.

Hazel’s heart pulsed louder as the two princes approached for two reasons. One was from the excitement that was just bursting to be let out at the sight of her best friend. While the other reason was the complete love and adoration, she felt for her longest infatuation. Hazel shook off any remaining nerves and smiled brightly the moment Adonis’ eyes met hers.

Excitement won as she let out an excited fit of giggles and sprightly waved towards them. Her own eagerness led the princess to make her way towards the two princes. If they weren’t so darn tall, she would’ve gladly tackled the two into a hug, and if it weren’t for society’s expectations, she would’ve gladly done it with the type of excitement that would topple the two behemoths. She knew she could do it with enough momentum and energy. For now, however, she settled on a simple side hug and a peck on the cheek for the two princes.
“Donis! Krýos! I’m so glad two of my favourite princes could make it!”
Hazel buzzed with enthusiasm. With hands on her hips, a realisation slowly dawned on her.
“Hold on, I didn’t know the two of you knew each other.”
A smile rose from the princess’ rosy lips. Seeing the two together was a pleasant and welcome surprise to behold.

The night will indeed have more surprises to come.
