A smile too large for a face remained on Hakim as he watered his quaint garden.
"Drink well, friends..."
He commented to himself as the various plants soaked in the nutrients.

The dark skinned old man man found himself taking a sigh as he wiped the sweat from his brow. Another day in these woods. Another day alone. It wasn't all bad. Hakim had reserved quiet that he seldom got from his younger days. Very few crossed paths with Hakim but when they did, he was always sure to supply them with restoration potions, medicine and directions for the forest. The type that came by usually needed all three. They'd be adventurers and explorers. Travelers seeking the far world as Hakim once had done.

These days he just lived as an old hermit in the woods. Long gone are the days of the great "Fire Sage".

Once assured the plants had enough water, Hakim set the watering can aside with the rest of his gardening tools and went out front of his cabin. The fire pit still warm with ashes from last night. The only noise being the river washing along the forest. This was true peace. A place Hakim wouldn't mind his 'retirement' in. But truth be told, he did miss his old days. The days he would travel like those young folk that pass by to never be seen again.

The kid kept on running forward as fast as he could, ignoring the pain accumulating on his unprotected feet. He had went the entire night through the dark forest without ever stopping, and it had started to take the toll on his small body. His legs got slower and slower, and at one point he tripped, winning bruises on his face and arms. Still, he kept moving forward, even if his stride turned into ever-slowing walk.

He'd thought that the forest would kept on going endlessly, a long corridor of darkness without end in sight, until he spotted a faint light in the distance. He felt both relief and pain at the same time. Had he found his way out? Or did he just walked around in circle and returning the way he came from? The kid decided to follow that light. No matter what it would happen to be.

He ended up on the forest's exit. The light was pouring out from a small house's windows. A river was situated not so far from it, and a small shack was adjacent to the house, most likely to store lumber.

The kid tried to make no sound with his steps; a light house meant there was someone living there, and that person must be inside or at least somewhere nearby if he didn't turn the lights off. He wasn't ready to meet someone yet. They might took him back to that castle, and he didn't want any of it.

He was about to sneak around the house when he tripped again. His wounded arms scraped the rocky ground, causing him to yelp from the pain. He quickly covered his mouth, fearing that the owner of the house might heard him.

Hakim was within thought when the sudden noise of someone kicking up rock and gravel followed by a distinct yelp awoke him.

The older man still had sharp eyes and he carefully scouted the area before him. It sounded like another person was here. More importantly, it sounded like another person who didn't want to be seen was here. Hakim wanted to be long done with any days that might've caused violence or harm. Hopefully, this was not the return of it.

He began the walk around the house slowly and carefully.
"Is someone here?"
His voice had a deep and smooth tone to it. Hakim was never one to want to come off as intimidating.
"I'm just an old hermit. I mean no harm."
Although if someone was terrified of Hakim, that likely wouldn't help. Hakim kept sharp eyes and ears out for anyone moving about his house.
