[/div][/div][div class=tab4 style=display:none][div class=combat][div class=scroll][div class=bigtext2]House[/div]
The house was built in the time between the end of the Revolutionary War and the beginning of the Civil War by a wealthy banker, Samuel Greystone. He purchased a large lot of land that had previously been untouched. Unbeknownst to him, that plot of land was on a rift between the living world and the afterlife. This rift attracted death. Greystone Manor has been home to many accidents, illnesses, suicides, and a murder or two. The wall between life and death was so thin here, even those who are not sensitive to the supernatural can see the spirits who chose to stay there. The first of those spirits was Samuel's sister, Eleanor. She and her young daughter moved in shortly after her husband had died. She was rushing down the stairs after her daughter started crying. Her dress caught on the bannister and caused her to fall and break her neck. Samuel, unable to cope with the glimpses of Eleanor, moved his family to his summer home and sold Greystone Manor. After that, Greystone Manor changed hands quite often. Its reputation for death was overshadowed by the reputation for grand parties, beautiful balls, events of the year. These events were always looked forward to, bringing in large crowds. However, many guests became residents. Those who died in the house, stayed if they had unfinished business, and many did as their deaths were always untimely. The reputation for death began to catch up to the house in the 1940s, when the final owners, before Florence and her husband, abandoned the house. Florence and Richard purchased the home in 1969 and proceeded to restore it to its former glory. There are hundreds of ghosts in the home, some more active and social than others. None are evil, but some are more angry or mischievous than others.

[div class=bigtext2]Ghosts[/div]
Generally, ghosts go unseen by the average human, though in places where there is a rift between the living and the dead, they can be visible. Since the house is on a powerful rift, they appear to be just like any human. They can be seen, heard, and touched if they would like. They do have the ability to go unseen, to appear living, or to appear as they did when they died (injuries, pale, wet, dry, etc.) While they look like normal humans, they are physically cool to the touch. They are able to leave the grounds of the mansion, however they need to be "tethered" to a person. This is only temporary since it does drain energy from whoever the ghost is tethered to. If they are tethered too long, the human will pass out and the ghost will be sent back to the mansion. Consent is not necessary for tethering, but it is encouraged since the human will likely feel something affecting their energy. They can physically interact with objects, however they can phase through objects as well. This corresponds with the state they are in. If they are visible, they can touch things; if they are not visible, they cannot. Being visible comes at a price. It is taxing for spirits to be solid and when they are too drained they will return to being invisible.

[div class=bigtext2]Humans[/div]
Humans cannot see ghosts and as far as science goes, ghosts do not exist. Of course there are a few special humans who are more sensitive to spirits who are able to see them, but it is rare and usually runs in families. It is not uncommon for the ability to skip generations, but there are times where every member of the family has the ability. Specifically, NONE of the humans who come to live at the manor know ghosts exist. The friends DO NOT believe in ghosts, none of them know that the house is haunted, they do not know that the family has the ability to see spirits, and they do not know for a fact that ghosts exist

just a little background info on their family life!

parents: nick and molly wheeler

they were attending a wedding in vermont and dropped the children off with nick's mother, the owner of the house, florence. on their way home, they hit a patch of black ice and got into a car accident, which killed them on impact. the children were 4, 2, and only a couple months old at the time. so, the younger two wheelers have no memory of the parents. after the accident, their grandmother got custody of them and raised them in the manor.

grandmother: florence wheeler

florence wheeler has the same ability the children do. florence and her husband bought the house in 1969, to save it from destruction. the grandfather came from a wealthy family and was quite a successful lawyer. they were able to purchase and restore the house to its former glory. florence was always connected to the house, often walking by it as a child. she owned an antique shop in town where she worked until she died.

the children were left with two inheritances. one from their parents, which is their money to spend however they please, and the other is an incredible amount from their grandmother. it is strictly to be used for keeping up with the house, renovations, and any bills related to the house.

[div class=ptag]history[/div] paige was the first child born to nick and molly wheeler. she came four weeks early, much to the surprise of the new parents. thankfully, she had few complications and the only long term effect is her moderate asthma. paige was an easy baby and her parents doted on her. from a young age, it was clear that paige had inherited the ability passed down her father's side. while her father did not have the ability himself, he recognized it from living with his mother. paige would often babble and giggle at nothing. as a toddler she had her "friends" that she would chat away too, which others would write off as ordinary imaginary friends (though little did they know, most imaginary friends were spirits, as young children are often sensitive to spirits. they usually grow out of it by 6 or 7 years old).

when she was four, her parents dropped her and her siblings, a two year old and an infant, with her grandmother, nick's mother. they were going to a wedding of a friend in vermont and they didn't want to bring the children to an event that would bore them to tears. however, on their way home, they hit a patch of black ice. the accident was fatal and both nick and molly were killed on impact. because molly's parents lived in arizona, it was decided that the children would stay with florence who also lived in their hometown. paige has very little memory of her parents, but what she does remember, she treasures. one thing she cannot remember is if her parents said goodbye to her before they moved on. it's a question she desperately wants answered.

growing up with her grandmother was largely positive for paige. she formed a strong bond with her and saw her as a mentor with her ability. until she was in school, the ghosts that resided in greystone manor were her only friends. she talked about her ghost friends with her school friends at first, but as she grew older she realized that her ability was not normal and that she should keep it a secret. she never wanted to invite her friends over, knowing that she would likely have to make up lies to explain away the spirits in the house. she hated keeping secrets from her friends, but she was more afraid of how they would react if they found out about her ability and the manor.

once she was in high school, paige would help out at her grandmother's antique shop in order to earn her own money. though her grandmother was wealthy, she wanted to ensure that the children had life skills. in fact, her money that she had passed on to them after her death was only to be used in the upkeep of the house and any bills relating to the house. after high school, she commuted to trinity college in hartford, earning her bs in economics. she hoped to take over the shop when her grandmother retired. but unfortunately, her grandmother never got the chance. florence suffered a major heart attack at the shop one day. paige was with her when it happened and she knew that her grandmother was gone.

though she was devastated, she was able to say her goodbyes and her grandmother helped her with all the preparations that she needed to make before moving on. in the month since she died, paige had taken over the antique shop full time. she was the one who decided to bring up renting out the manor. while she has been hesitant about letting her friends anywhere near her home, she felt that the family, including herself, could use a bit of support. however, she is terrified about her friends finding out their secret and how they would react if they did. she had a firm talking to with the spirits who resided in the manor, insisting that they be on their best behavior. nothing can go wrong, can it?

isabelle was the second of the crawford's two children. she has always been a bit of a wild child. she was a social butterfly, making friends wherever she went. she was quite the popular girl in her private school. she was often seen at parties and social gatherings laughing, smoking, and drinking with her friends. her parents didn't approve of her "wild" behavior, but she never changed, to their disappointment. she would flirt with boys and was often dating around, though she never really settled into a real relationship.

well, until she met william. she fell hard and fast for him and he was the only person who was allowed to call her "belle". the two were often with each other and they were planning on getting married. they weren't engaged, william still had to work up the nerve to ask isabelle's parents, but the couple had talked about it extensively. william's family lived in a beautiful manor where his family held many parties.

it was at one of these parties where isabelle met her end. she had spent the night dancing, laughing, and, of course, drinking. she was there quite late and ended up staying at the manor. she went to take a bath, as it was her nightly routine, but once she was finished, she slipped on the wet floor, falling backwards into the tub. she hit her head, knocking her unconscious and slipping under the water. one of the maids found her and screamed. her white silk robe was stained red by the bloody water.

isabelle stood and watched as her body was discovered and removed. she saw the devastation of william and her friends. feeling robbed of her life, she chose to stay, but she could never work up the courage to approach william again, just watching from a distance as he moved on with his life. he quickly moved out, unable to live in the place where isabelle died. owners came and went, the house was empty for a while, and before she knew it, it's nearly been 100 years since she died.

Flora Mae Wheeler
'Everyone's life has an interesting story; you've just got to sit and listen to them long enough to find it!'

Human or ghost: Human (Wheeler #3)
Age: 18
Gender: Female
Birthday: February 3rd
Sexual orientation: Straight
Hair color: Brown
Eye color: Blue
Skin: Caucasian and freckled
Stature: 5'2'' and about 110 pounds

Likes: She is a frequent hiker and adores being in nature. Flora loves to eat strawberries and pancakes at any time of day. She also is very social and likes being around people.
Dislikes: The cold, when people don't say where they're going or when they'll be back. She doesn’t like public speaking or being in front of a crowd. She also hates mushrooms.
Fears: Losing her siblings is a top level fear. She also doesn't like thunderstorms or driving during storms.

Positives: Flora is an optimist. She's a good listener and remembers birthdays with a homemade card about 99% of the time. She is a hard worker and dedicated to a task.
Negatives: Flora is childish and naive. She believes what people tell her without questioning it much. She is very distractible and can't focus very well. She always needs to be moving or fiddling with something.

About Flora:
Flora Mae Wheeler swears up and down that she makes up in friendliness what she lacks in scholarly ability. Finally out of high school, Flora is still determining a path in life. She lucked into a job at a local vet office keeping kennels cleaned and paperwork sorted. While Flora is devoted to nurturing the living, her passion project takes more of a route towards the deceased.

Flora has collected bones almost her entire life at Greystone Manor. It started with a bird that had died months prior on the far side of the house. With the help of a diagram in a book and her fleeting concentration, Flora finally built the bone structure of a robin back to life. Not living, but enough to give it a different beauty.
She strung wildflowers through its vertebrae; an acorn nestled in its ribcage like a heart that might beat again. After constantly struggling to reads the words that her peers soared through, after jumbling every math problem, after smearing every painting and butchering each note on the recorder, Flora had finally found something she was good at.
She toted it around like a new pet until someone worriedly mentioned sanitation concerns. The decorated bird carcass was disposed of, but her interest was still present.
Flora moved on to other species next. The ancient encyclopedia became her own. Pages were dog-eared and notes were scribbled into the margins; Flora tipped a flashlight beneath her blankets at night to pore over the pictures. Bone structures. The nuts and bolts of any living thing, and the last thing to leave this planet after they had ceased to live. This always brought Flora to consider the more peculiar residents of Greystone Manor.
She had always referred to the ghosts of the manor as 'cold friends'. At first, the cute name for them made her chattering seem like no more than a child grieving her parents and making up imaginary friends.

Even as an adult, she carries on with it. Playmates from the past, full of interesting stories and unique games. Flora is more secretive about her cold friends now, but she still happily discusses them with her siblings.
With multiple bone projects spanning her basement bedroom, Flora couldn't be happier embracing her odd talent. The manor is her oasis; packed full of the siblings she adores and the friends she's come to love, cold ones or living. She hasn't ever known another life outside of it; she doesn't remember her parents whatsoever. She wouldn't leave Greystone Manor for the world.

Biography
Solomon Clark was never the type for grand aspirations. Shortly after he was born, his parents were born again, and he was raised with a deep-seated sense of faith and charity that never quite left him. Even as a child, he was far more withdrawn than his brothers and sisters. Though his family hoped he might outgrow that quiet nature, he never did, turning his attention to higher education and an eventual career in accounting. If things had gone his way, he might have spent his life eking out a meager living by crunching numbers, keeping to himself and eventually starting his own family when the right woman wandered into his life.
However, while he never had ambitions or brains to speak of, he did have a very wealthy and well-connected father, one who had the ear of some businessmen with more money than morals. Solomon ended up under the employ of Norfolk & Western, a new railroad company riding the coattails of a growing industry. He rose through the ranks quickly, and even though the company had a few rough patches, he ended up in the inner circle of the company's executives near the beginning of 1857. With even a taste of the wealth he could someday achieve, it became harder and harder for Solomon to conceive of returning to the sparse and simple life he'd have otherwise been content with.
It was early September when Norfolk & Western hosted a get-together at Greystone Manor. Solomon attended, eager as ever to rub shoulders with the gentlemen who ran the company. However, when the drinks started flowing, lips started loosening. A member of the board let slip that the company had never owned any actual rail line and was little more than a legal entity pushing numbers around to cheat money out of investors. A run on the banks meant that the profit was about to dry up fast, and by the end of the following week, Norfolk & Western would be dissolved. The dozens of loyal employees would all be left to fend for themselves. That last bit was received with uproarious laughter from the other executives and horrorstruck silence from Solomon, who quietly excused himself to the balcony. For years, he'd been carrying out their orders without hesitation, tamping down the questions he knew he really ought to be asking, just to be played for a fool in the end... He's not entirely sure if it was the alcohol that nudged him over the railing or if it was something deeper, something within the manor itself. It led to the same end, after all.

Cause of Death: Suicide
Why did he stay?: When Solomon’s spirit left him, he looked to the other side and saw only an eternity of brimstone before him. A braver man might have faced that head-on, but instead, he turned away and tethered himself to the manor. Better to stay in the mortal world, even if it feels more alien to him with every passing day.
What would it take for him to move on?: He needs to come to terms with his life and the afterlife that awaits him. How that will happen remains to be seen.

[/div][/div][/div] [div class="tabsContent3" style="display: none"][div class=title]history.[/div] [div class=yo][div class=scroll][div class=firstword]biography[/div] Scott was never a stand-out child. He was middle-class, with parents in a somewhat strained but ultimately necessary marriage. He was very smart, doing incredibly well in his classes, but had a limited social life. Scott suffered from a near-crippling stutter. This only got worse due to anxiety when his father left home to fight in World War II. Despite years of speech therapy, he seemed to show little improvement, which frustrated him beyond recognition. When his father died at war, he was sixteen, and had a full mental breakdown resulting in a failed suicide attempt.

The only thing he ever seemed interested in was the art of film. He was in love with movies, every single one. He'd spend all his money at movie theaters, and even took up writing his own scripts. While sinking in his tub, drowning, well... nobody knows what he saw, but he was suddenly prompted to become a full-fledged film director. He spent hundreds on film equipment and didn't bother attending college, which angered his mother. She kicked him out when he was nineteen years old, and he moved in with an old speech therapy friend, who ended up working with him on his movies.

He and his friend slowly amassed a small crew and began creating their own short movies and mailing reels to several film corporations with little acknowledgement. However, Scott's horror reel titled "The Big Fish" drew the intrigue of United Artists. They were given full reign and a budget to create a full-length movie. It was a ghost film, ironically, titled "The Red Lady", it being the first movie Scott ever made on color film. The script was one of the greatest works Scott had ever put together, and they hired a few d-list actors to help out with the movie. They decided to film in a little old mansion.

July 27th, 1954. They were setting up to film one of the major scenes, when the ghost is first shown. They began to film, and Scott called 'action', while clutching a bottle of bourbon. He was a perfectionist. Actors hated working with him, but it was hard to deny how great his creations were as a result. Very quickly he called 'cut', and stepped in to make an adjustment, when his shirt snagged on the box light. It fell, shattering and starting a fire on the carpet. This fire trailed across the rug and reached Scott's pants. He fell, dropping his bottle and causing it to shatter underneath him. The alcohol also slowly caught fire, and the others scrambled to find a way to put him out. His entire body went alight, and he resembled some sort of demon, waving his arms and shrieking. By the time his sound guy got enough water and a bucket to put him out, Scott was nothing more than a charred body on the floor, reeking of burning flesh and liquor. Unsure what to do, the rest of the group called the police and quickly left.

[div class=firstword]cause of death[/div] immolation

[div class=firstword]why did he stay?[/div] his one true dream, his magnum opus, was never finished. he never succeeded in making his name, instead remaining a carving on a tombstone.

[div class=firstword]how will he move on?[/div] the knowledge that he will be remembered for years to come may finally allow him to pass.

[div class=block]background[/div] Ursula was born in Russia, but remembers very little of it. Her parents left early, with her in tow, when she was about six years old. She was known as a wallflower with an odd personality. She didn't seem to have many interests, and didn't make friends well. Her passions were unclear for years, until she took a trip to New York City and stepped into a strange little shop in SoHo.

The walls were decorated with butterflies and bugs. Birds, mammals and reptiles all stood, unmoving but lifelike. The upstairs had a beautiful albino peacock, stood on one leg like a dainty flamingo. Immediately, Ursula was intrigued, and talked the manager's ear off, asking question after question. She ended up stealing her mother's credit card to buy taxidermy supplies, which got her in huge trouble, but she showed no sign of caring. She took to the newfound passion headfirst, starting by collecting roadkill off the highway and almost getting run over several times in the process. Figures of raccoons, squirrels, weasels, voles and small cats began collecting in her room, each one cleaner than the last. Soon enough, her father let her use some of the kills he got while hunting.

She applied to art school based on her fantastic furry beings, which she had begun to put in strange settings or combine together into wild creatures. It was a small distance from home, and she was already thinking of moving out, but she didn't feel like spending the extra money on a dorm. That was where the Wheeler family came in, a family she'd known for a fair amount of time, with their large, almost gothic mansion that Ursula had always envied. To live there would be a dream, with a nice, big taxidermy studio and a whole load of potential inspiration to be found. [/div] [/div] [/div] [/div] [/div]

Name: Etta King
Age: 27
Gender: Woman
Sexuality: Lesbian
Birth Date: 01/12/1867
Death Date: 08/10/1894
Human or Ghost?: Ghost
Faceclaim: Victoria Pedretti

Likes: Technology, literally all genres of books, stamps, progress, knitting, oddities
Dislikes: Etiquette, parrots, fishing, puns, orders, candles
Vices: Crass, pompous, impatient, unreliable, defensive
Virtues: Adaptive, open-minded, forthright, charmer, passionate
Fears: Things moving backwards, losing her voice, passing on
Quirks/Habits: Easily annoyed by nervous habits, will float up to be eye level, is prone to private property walks that she sings through (don't interrupt it)

History: Etta King was born the youngest of seven children, though by adulthood she was the youngest of two. Her family was wealthy, and of the perks to being the two children that survived is being able to push your way in places some might prefer you weren't, such as college.

Etta had always been a precocious child, with a temper often spurred by her strong sense of right and wrong. It was polarizing, to say the least, and an interest in feminism that had always been there quickly bolstered under the influence of women at her college. She became involved in the suffragette movement as well as activity through her church, and upon getting her degree entered a career mostly for the sake of doing it- It wasn't like she really needed the money.

College is where she truly discovered that there was in fact an option beyond settling down with a man and sacrificing her desires for the rest of her life. She was immediately drawn in by the idea of a Boston marriage, at first exploring it with the plans of remaining single the rest of her life. Her best friend, a woman named Mary from a similar background from whom she was practically inseperable, agreed to move in with her when the pair was 21. A couple years later, they shared a secret kiss that quickly grew into more, though only their closest friends were at all aware, and certainly not their families.

The pair frequented several galas at Greystone Manor together, happy if veiled, something that never sat well with Etta. Things went well until they didn't.

There was a fire started by some kind of electrical incident Etta never looked that deeply into, and Etta and Mary were separated.

Mary got out, and Etta didn't.

She has no idea what became of the love of her life after that.

Cause of Death: Fire. She ended up hecka burned but mostly just suffocated.
Why did you stay?: To discover what became of her partner, fear
What would it take for you to move on?: To find out what became of her best friend and lover and steel herself to the great unknown
