GODMODE

  • As mankind grew ever more arrogant and progressed towards enlightenment of the mind, rather than the immortal soul - the mysteries, miracles, and magical phenomena of the old times died out. Supernatural and paranormal events became scarce. The ancient Gods lost all meaning and power.

Past Jesus Christ, you never saw any more demigods.
Past the late 19th century, you never saw any more mages.
And past the second millennium, you don't get to see even spirits or ghosts that often.

But this is no longer the case.

Recently, you received a black card addressed to you from the mysterious Olympus Group. The card had the name and portrait of an ancient figure on it. Anything from Zeus, through King Arthur, all the way to Heracles. What was important was what happened after you touched it. You felt energy brimming and soaring through your body. And before you knew, you had the powers associated with that figure.

You thought that demigods, mages, ghosts - all these paranormal phenomena weren't true. You were wrong.

  2. At least a small paragraph is the bare minimum for each post.
  3. Although the action takes place in New York City, feel free to create fake locations, and even fake city districts. Fiction is fiction.

Date & Time: 2017-07-12 - 22:10
Weather: Clear sky, fairly hot

Leonhard Giles - Yahweh
Olympus Laboratories - 20 meters underground

Several figures, with two others in the lead, walked down a white, metallic corridor. Everyone was in a hurry. One of the figures was a young scientist in a white lab coat, glasses, with a notepad in one hand and a pen in the other. He had short black hair and blue eyes. Next to him, walked Leonhard Giles, in his usual leather attire, with a tie and with his hands in his pockets. "I sure am excited to finally get this started. This is my life's work and everyone who will know about it will be a few psychotic rascals running around throwing fireballs at each other," he chuckled.

"Say, how do you think this will go? Be honest with me," Leonhard asked the head researcher next to him, taking a cigarette in his mouth, as one of his bodyguards took the lighter from his pocket and lit it.

The head researcher was pulled away from the calculations he was performing in his notepad. "
Uh. Not sure. It can go either way at this point. I just hope... I hope that we can do this without any collateral damage." Leonhard giggled somewhat loudly. "Collateral damage? Without collateral damage? Son, do you even KNOW what we're doing here?" he asked sarcastically. "We're pulling out a probably-illegal batman gambit that will give random people magical powers that will eventually grow to godlike levels," he took his cigarette out of his mouth and looked at the young scientist. "Of course there will be collateral damage."

The two walked in through a pair of automated doors into a bay full of trucks, with a single exit for vehicles that led to aboveground. Leonhard and the rest made their way over to a wooden crate, as he presented the cards to the delivery team. He took a Black Card of King Arthur in his hands and said: "
Gentlemen. This is our most ambitious project so far. Don't fuck it up," he put his cigarette back in his mouth as he spoke. "This card portrays... King Arthur of Camelot."

Suddenly, a bright light shined through in the room, as a sword adorned with golden trim appeared in Leonhard's hand. "
As you may already know, the cards offer magical abilities to the last person that touched them, but in order to help them develop - we need to give them to attuned users. I've already enchanted the scanners in your trucks. Your task is simple; deliver these cards to the right people," he put the King Arthur back in the box, then touched his Yahweh card in his pocket again, regaining contact with it. "And no playing around with the powers - these are not toys. These are the way that mankind will regain contact with the Magic of Old... Now get moving!" he turned around and yelled.

Each delivery team took a small box of cards as well as scanners and got into their trucks.

CHAPTER 1: With Great Power...

Nova Williams - King Arthur
Dorm room - Columbia University

Nova sighed, and rolled over. Who in the world was knocking on her dorm room door? She didn't have class until ten this morning, surely a few more minutes wouldn't hurt...? She nearly fell back asleep again, when the knocking persisted. Looking over, Nova noticed her roommate, Kelsi, was not in her bed. "Come in," Nova mumbled loudly through the covers of her bed. The girl had to refrain from hissing when the hallway light hit her eyes, and she merely recoiled into her blankets further.

"Mail for you," Kelsi stated plainly, dropping a black card onto Nova's desk, atop her closed laptop. Groaning incoherently, Nova untangled herself from the blankets and made her way over to the card. "Did you order that?" Kelsi asked, looking curiously at the card as Nova turned it over in her hands.

"No... I didn't order anything like this... Was it for me?" Nova asked, looking from the card to Kelsi.

"It was in the box for our room, so I assumed one of us had ordered it, and it certainly wasn't me," the small girl shrugged, flicking the dorm light on and going to sit on her bed. "Anyways, you can keep it. I'm not into all that legend and myth crap."

Nova wanted to bite back with a 'neither am I', but something about the card made her hold her tongue. She looked it over again, reading its contents. How curious that someone would send her a card about King Arthur. Shrugging, she opened a desk drawer and dropped it in, on top of loads of doodles and scraps of notes she kept just in case she might need them later. Right now, she needed to focus on getting ready for her 10am summer class, which sucked that she got that specific time, and the essay that was due at midnight tomorrow that she hadn't started on yet. Moving about the small dorm room, she started getting ready, to which Kelsi quickly exited the room.

James V. Miller & Leonhard Giles
Lucifer & Yahweh

Olympus Laboratories - Park Avenue Street

"Mr. Giles will see you now, James," said a brown-haired secretary, the one you see in movies.

"Alright, let's do this," he replied half-heartedly. James got up from his chair and walked over to the office door. He looked at it, lacking confidence, and opened it. He looked forward, only to see his own grandfather sitting in a leather office chair behind a desk. He walked in and closed the door, as Leonhard directed him to the chair, "Have a seat," he invited. James obeyed his grandfather's request and sat down at the chair, staring straight into the old man's face. His face was lacking conviction. He was nervous but he was trying to hide it.

"I am now going to present you with your card, um... James, I'd like it if you..." he paused, unable to find the right word. He decided to use the common, modern slang. "I'd like it if you didn't; how do you youngsters say it? If you didn't freak out! Yes, that's a good way to say it," he commented, sighing and taking a deep breath. It was clear at this point that neither of them were exactly excited about this. James was indeed excited he'd get a card, but this was a turning point of his life. Getting a card and knowing what they did - it was like getting married. It was a large revelation that could change a person's whole life.

Leonhard put on his black gloves to avoid touching the card and then he reached out for a drawer on the right of his desk and took out a black card from it. He took a good look at it, unhappy. He gave it to James with the same expression he had when he looked at the card, but only to disturb his grandson. "Wait... Wait..." he stuttered, as he took the card in his hand, not understanding. "Lucifer?" he asked, looking up at his grandfather with scared eyes. "What does this mean? You said I'm attuned to it. Doesn't that mean I am LIKE Lucifer?..." he asked, gulping. His breathing started to get funny. "Do not be alarmed, James. The cards work in mysterious ways. Just because you're attuned to it doesn't mean you ARE a bad person. If anything, that would redeem the person on the card. You are attuned to it - which means the two of you are alike. You don't look very sinister and evil to me, which would - ironically enough, mean that Lucifer is not as evil as mythology paints him to be," Leonhard chuckled and got up, then walked over to a cabinet on the side of the room and poured himself a small glass of whiskey. "Who knew?" he briefly turned his head to James, chuckling again.

"True... Fair enough..." he took a deep breath. A few chills ran down his spine, but they were of relief - not fear. His grandfather's talking re-assured him, but he still had one question. "You said that... whoever touches the card masters their abilities quickly, right? It's like... innately knowing what to do." Leonhard nodded. "Much like pooping," he compared, taking a sip of his whiskey and heading over back to his chair. "We don't need our parents to teach us how to... produce excrement, we just know how to do it. You'll probably master whatever powers it gives you before you get back home, especially knowing that you like to play around with things," the old man smiled briefly. "Alright, alright, but I don't feel anything," he complained. "And? What did you expect? That touching a magical card will give you the same feeling as being struck by lightning? Give it a rest, James. You're acting more paranoid than me on a Sunday night," the old man took a sip of his whiskey, smiling, as he found the situation somewhat amusing all of the sudden. "I assure you that your card works. All of them just do. Now get back home, you rascal. Your father would probably be curious to see your card, speaking of which; tell Holly that her cake is damn amazing, alright?" Leonhard asked.

"Sure, sure. See you, gramps," he said, leaving.

James V. Miller - Lucifer
Manhattan
Strolling down the street, James had the peculiar feeling of being watched. Something wasn't right. He turned around and looked at a crowd that was passing through the street lanes. He freaked out and turned pale when he saw himself among the masses, smiling back at him. He blinked, only to see it was someone else. He sighed deeply, shaking his head. "The stress is getting to me," he rationalized and continued walking.

Alexander Perrikoiss
Apartment, Manhatten

Alexander was sitting home alone on this day, like any other, enjoying a modest breakfast. Suddenly, a knock came at the door. Tensing, Alexander walked to the front door and hit a button on a console, activating the door camera. On the other side he saw a young woman in a strange uniform, comparable to a mailman's, but with symbology that was to him totally unfamiliar. Sighing, he opened the door.
"Good morning." She said before he could open her mouth. She forced upon him a small package, nodded, and walked away. Alex quickly shut the door and put the package down on the table, standing on the other side of the room. When it didn't explode or conflagrate after a few minutes, he took a knife from a drawer and deftly cut it open. Inside rested a single black card. He raised it to the light, and saw upon it an image of Athena, the Greek god. He put it down on the table. "What's this?" he said to no one in particular. He looked at the back, but found it to be only solid black. He decided that it was probably a gift from a subscription of some sort, he had subscribed to several Greek themed historical magazines. He picked it up and set it down on a table. He began to walk away and was going to think nothing of this odd occurence when he suddenly doubled over and raised a hand to his head. He felt his mind expanding, it was an indescribable experience. "What the..." he ran back over to the card. Now something felt off about it for sure. After a few minutes of debate, he decided on one thing. This card must be magic. It was too coincidental for there to be an alternative. Amazed, he picked up the card.
"Imagine the possibiliities! If I could manufacture these.... I wonder if there are ones for the other gods! I'm sure there are! Will those be delievered to me? No matter, I will find them either way! I will seek out these cards and grant myself the power of the gods!" He slipped into a childlike amazement at the potential these new cards held. Running to his bedroom, he looked around. He grabbed a jacket from his closet, keeping the card within a protective sleeve in the jacket pocket. In the other pocket he crammed some gloves, almost as an afterthought, and then he moved into his library. He took several volumes on Greek mythology and stacked them on a table, deciding he'd probably be needing them soon. Bouncing with excitement, he went back to the table and picked up the package the card had come in, looking for any defining features that may give him a clue as to where the card might have come from.

Bouncing with excitement, he went back to the table and picked up the package the card had come in, looking for any defining features that may give him a clue as to where the card might have come from.
The texture of the card was very smooth, much like you'd expect from one for poker. It was black, however, upon it, was drawn the image of the Greek Goddess Athena in a grayish color. Below it were two lines of text, one of which was written in English, the other in native Greek. Both lines said the same, precise thing; Athena, Goddess of wisdom, craft, war, diplomacy, weaving, poetry, medicine, and commerce. And even lower below it was a roman numeral: 'I' which stood for 1. What the number could mean was hard to explain, even for Alexander, however, it was, in fact, the current generation of the card that would change and grow over time.

But then... the number suddenly changed. It looked like a fire in the second dimension ate the number, as a new one appeared; 'II' which stood for two. The careful research that Alexander put to every detail of her card pleased the Goddess.

Pandora Coulson
One57 Penthouse, New York City

Pandora woke up at around 5:30 AM, as is her daily routine. She smiles as she scratches the ears of her cat Simon who was curled up beside her. She had lots of cats, 10 of them in fact, which are all asleep on her. As Pandora sat up, the cats all simultaneously woke up. "Morning." She said with a yawn as she stood up and stretched.

Right beside her bed is a wide ceiling to floor window giving her a gorgeous view of the Empire State building. She thinks the building is overrated, still, it's not a bad view to wake up to. The weather is also quite pleasant, making the view seem even better. Pandora checked her phone for any messages she might have received during her sleep as she headed towards her kitchen.

There were few messages, her secretary knew she doesn't like to receive any messages during the evening. There was a text from that cute girl she met a few nights ago. Eh, she's starting to get boring anyway, so Pandora decided to delete the message and the girl's contact number, she even blocked any calls or messages coming from her.

Pandora's kitchen wasn't a regular one. It was even better than what some high class restaurants owns, even the ingredients are top quality. For herself, Pandora cooked a simple omelette for herself, she doesn't like to eat much during breakfast, and brewed herself a cup of coffee. She poured each of her beloved cats a bowlful of premium cat food, no cheap, generic cat food for her babies, and high quality milk. The cats probably eat better than most people, but then again, most people doesn't have an owner of a multibillion dollar company as their loving owners now did they?

After having breakfast, Pandora went for a little swim in her indoor pool. She likes to do this every morning since it refreshes and relaxes her. After that it's off to take a bath, you can never be too clean, and dress up for work. Usually she doesn't go to work for another our, it's just a little past seven, but she needs to be early for a meeting.

Pandora heard a knock as she was finishing putting on her clothes. "Must be the petsitter." She mumbled to herself. She has a personal sitter for her cats. The girl's a licensed veterinarian and dietary specialists who also works for Pandora. She's also quite cute, though Pandora hasn't dated her yet. She prefers to keep personal and business matters separate.

Pandora opened the door, and there was the sitter. "Good morning Miss Coulson." The woman said, a polite smile present on her face. "Take care of them okay? I'll pay you extra for calling you here earlier than usual." Pandora said, her face completely serious and all-business. Her smiling and kind persona only existed in the confines of her own home, reserved for her beloved pets. "Ah thank you! By the way, this package seems to be for you." The woman said as she handed Pandora a box. Pandora received the box and entered the elevator.

It was a long way down since she lives in the upper floors of the building. Pandora decided to see what's inside the box. Inside was a black card with a man holding a sickle on it. "Kronos, Titan King" was written on the card. Of course she knew who it was, she wasn't dumb. What she wanted to know was what it was and who sent it to her. A sudden sensation was felt by Pandora when she read the words out loud. She noticed that the numbers of the floors she's passing by were moving slower. Even her own body feels slow, but she can still process everything around her normally.

'What in the world?' Pandora thought when everything started moving normally again. It was definitely strange, yet it wasn't unpleasant. It was real, she decided since she had actually felt it. "Interesting." Was all she could say.

Lily White - Thoth
Street of Manhattan

Her cheeks were flushed red. She was walking on her way back to Park Avenue Street to report that she had sent all of the cards she was assigned to. She hadn't change from her mailwoman uniform, although she had put her hat deep inside her bag. It was supposed to be simple; all she need to do was to put the package in front of the doorstep. Then why did she knock that apartment door? She knew why, of course. It was 8.02 past 31 seconds in the morning. She didn't really know the tenants there, but if one of them doesn't have any manner, get nosy and opened the packages... but that was beyond her point!

What if that man recognise her again? She had been fast enough that he couldn't get a good look of her, but what if he can remember her voice? Most people aren't very observant, but what if that man notice it? She felt confident that her acting was good enough, but she forgot to change her voice! And she was supposed to be perfectly attuned to Thoth, too. As the ibis headed god stared at her from beyond the card, she didn't feel wise at all. Rather, she felt stupid.

Lily stared intently at her card, still pondering on what she did exactly 10 minutes 53 seconds ago. Another part of her mind reminded her that people tend to hit something when they didn't watch where they are going. Her other half of mind would have answered, but that was when she walked straight into James Miller. Her mind chastised herself while she scrambled to take her glasses and fallen black card.

"S-Sorry. Are you all right? "

Alexander Perrikoiss
Apartment, Manhatten

Alexander nearly dropped the card as it burned with an inhuman fire. "It.... leveled up?" He was at this point confused, but intrigued and still very excited. He tried to get a sense of what had changed, but at first, he couldn't find anything. Then, suddelnly, he began thinking of the varied traits of Athena, his mind quickly fell upon her most prominent symbol in classical mythology, the great shield Aegis, and with a flash, it appeared upon his arm. It was heavy, but he was able to hold it aloft. He was at this point freaking out. "oh my god this is real!" He beat on it's surface, to find that it was indeed real bronze. At the same time, however, it wasnt. He could.. feel power radiating from it. He was certain this shield could survive the toughest blow anyone could lay upon it. Then, he stopped and tensed as he realized the possible ramifications of it's appearence. He looked at the card, and spoke to it, seeing if the goddess would hear. "Are you saying that I'll need this? Is there danger ahead." He walked into his room, opened his safe, grabbed his gun, and holstered it, concealed in his shirt, just to be safe. It was at this point that he would be struck from behind and fall over forwards. He rolled over, raising his hands defensively, only to see the familiar face of Hercules, his beloved dog.
"Jesus christ buddy, you scared me." He sat up and wrapped his arms around the german shepherd. Standing, he bent over and kissed him on the top of the head. "Alright Herc, I'm headed out for a bit, ok?" The dog barked in acknowledgement. He started again, then turned back. He stared at the dog for a minute "I wonder if Hercules has a card... that'd be way too cool! In fact I should start looking for that now." He looked again at the card "I wonder what that symbol is..." It was vaguely familiar, he had seen it on a storefront a few days before. Deciding that the storefront in question would be a good place to start, he checked to make sure he had everything and set out the door. He had no concerns about Hercules doing damage to the house, he was trained and tame.
Alexander Perikoiss
Manhatten

Alexander exited the tall building with a brisk, fresh walk and an excited attitude. As he began walking along the street, he smiled. The city life, it was the one he enjoyed. He had several residences around the world. Florida, Texas, Hawaii, Paris, Tokyo, Rome... but New York was his home, and where he spent most of his time. He walked with his hands in his jacket pockets, one of them tightly gripping the sleeve in which his now precious Card was kept.

James V. Miller - Lucifer
Manhattan

James was looking back at the crowd that he thought he saw himself in for a few seconds. Upon seeing the people disperse and acknowledging that he, or a clone, or an evil twin of himself was not among the people - he finally calmed down. He started walking in the opposite direction and just the next moment - he collided with a girl. He staggered backward and fell to the ground, then quickly got up and took a good look at the girl... Indeed, he would have been mad if it wasn't a mailwoman, as he respected workers like himself. He merely performed basic deliveries and operated as a helper to the higher rank agents of the Olympus Group - ironically not knowing that the girl he stumbled into was one.

His natural response was to apologize, "I'm good, thanks. Let me help," he knelt and reached for the glasses, handing them to her... that's when with the glimpse of an eye he noticed that she had a black card. He noticed it, but acted naturally and tried to pretend like he didn't know what they were. Grandfather would be mad if he tried to intervene with an experiment in progress, even though James wasn't aware she worked for the Olympus Group. "I apologize," he said. Then he realized how lame the word 'apologize,' sounded.

'Are good manners hereditary in this family? That came off stale. I should have just said sorr-- Damn it, I'm overthinking things again,' he thought.

Damian Verren- Set
Manhattan

Damian had awoken that morning to the sound of someone pounding on his front door. With a loud yawn Damian rose from his bed and stretched his arms. He didn't want to be awake yet. Ob his way to the door he poured himself a glass of water and chugged it down quickly while he heard more pounding on his door. Still taking his time he lazy walked to the door and opened it a crack, giving the person at the door a glare.

"Can I help you?" asked Damian with a sinister smile. "Delivery for a Mr. Verren" replied the mailmen. Damian sighed and fully opened the door taking the box, nodding his thanks, and promptly slamming the door shut. "Why do people have to be so annoying" asked Damian to no one in particular. He took the box into his living room and set it down on the small coffee table next to the couch. He quietly stared at the box for a few minutes trying to figure out it's contents inside. "MIght as well open it" he said as he began to open the box.

When the box was finally open he found a black card facing down on top of some padding. He gently picked up the card and turned it around. A light smirk appeared on his face when he saw what was on the other side of the card.
"Set god of Chaos, storms, and the slayer of Aep. I have no idea what it's for but who ever sent me this has good taste." For a moment he watched the card and he could tell it was no normal card, the more he stared into the god's eyes the more he felt like the card was starring back at him. "Guess I should head out for now." he said as he set down the card to go get ready.

Once he was done getting dressed he grabbed the card and put it in his pocket. With a light hum he left his house and began to walk down the street. A flock of annoying pigeons off to his right caught his attention and he was surprised to feel that he hated them even more than usual. Wonder why that was.

Leonhard Giles - Yahweh
Bottom of the Elevator
As soon as Pandora left the elevator, an older man would be leaning on the wall next to it. "So, how are you enjoying it? Manipulating time, that is," he asked. "What's your next move? Are you going to go back to the 80's? Or maybe 90's? If you're going to the 90's, bring me some of that Szechuan sauce from McDonald's... and herbal tea, if you would," he added, putting a cigarette in his mouth as it lit itself on fire. Leonhard, to say the least, was interested in the card users and their abilities. Each one was attuned to their deity in one way or another, but Pandora struck him odd because she had little to do with Chronus. "Then again. You're a 1st Generation card user. It wouldn't be far-fetched to claim that you can't even move faster than me with that time alter of yours," he chuckled.

Nova Williams - King Arthur
Streets - Manhattan

Nova stepped outside the lecture hall. Today's class had been astoundingly boring, but Nova had paid attention regardless, even as many of her classmates fell asleep around her. Her notes weren't as fancy as others, as they were on paper rather than the new Surface Pro's or iPads. Some called her old fashioned, she called it broke. Clutching her school work close to her chest, Nova looked up towards the clear sky and basked in its glow and heat for a bit. It was hotter and wetter than she liked, but it was better than when there was snow and ice covering the ground. Moving back to her dorm, Nova looked over the card quickly as she deposited her books. Pocketing the odd black card, she moved to collect her usual items and take to the streets. Needed to get some food from the stores, after all.

Alexander too took a step back as he was hit at full force by Nova. "Hello there." He said "don't worry, it is fine." he didn't really care, but he, perhaps it was his increased intellect, noticed something... off. His eyes ran up and down across her body, sizing her up and trying to work out why this one person stood out to him so much. "What is your name?" He asked, sticking out a hand. "My name is Alexander Perrikoiss."

Nova blinked, uncertain why this guy wasn't just going to tell her off and be on with his day. He introduced himself as Alexander, so Nova naturally shook his outstretched hand. "I'm Nova Williams," she stated, letting go and letting her hand fall to her side. She fiddled nervously with the black card in her jacket pocket. "It's nice to meet you," she said after an awkward pause.

Nova shook her head. "No, sir. I was just... I found this..." Taking the card out of her pocket, Nova showed it to him, but maintained her hold on the card. Something within her told her she should hold onto it. "It's been bothering me all day. I don't know who sent it, or why I got it..." Actually, she got it because her roommate didn't want it. It also wasn't addressed to her roommate, but that was another matter that Nova didn't know about. "It's kinda odd. I think it's just junk mail, but you never know..."

He looked around "You got one too?" He looked again to ensure nobody was watching. "Perhaps we should go find a place to sit down and talk about these. There's something... off about them. We could go sit down at a cafe or something somewhere or we could go up to my apartment, it's just over there." He pointed towards a building that was very close by.

Great not only did he have to see his most hated eneimies fly around in annoying flocks but now a random girl stepped on his foot. The cards were a completely different matter.

Turning around he looked over at the two people talking and he decided to jump in. Slideing the card from his pocket, he walked up to then and held up his card.

He slowly raised his hand, revealing the card's face, and it's picture of the Goddess Athena. "Indeed, we are. If you've got one too... there's got to be something influencing this. Three people don't just meet up in the street all having just recieved the same card." He pulled a piece of paper and a pen out of his pocket and scribbled something on it before putting it back. Then he did it again with another piece. The second piece he handed to Damian "Alright, this is my phone number. If you'd like, you can try to find out more on these cards, call me if you find anything. Once again, I get it if you don't want to do it. I'll fill you in later." He turned to Nova "alright, it's right this way, are you coming?" He turned and began to walk home.

Pandora Coulson - Kronos

Pandora didn't even so much as blink when the man started to talk about her time related abilities. "I take it that you were the one who created the cards, or at least was involved in it?" She asked the man, her attention solely focused on him. She has a meeting, but right now this is much more important.

Pandora decided to humor the man's question. "What I would do with it? Use it to secure every advantage of course." Pandora said. Nothing would particularly change with her routine, unless something interfered with it. "Unless you're telling me I'm involved in a scheme or some game?" She said while raising an eyebrow.

This setting is common in movies and books, where one is granted immense powers for one man's entertainment. "I would, of course, likr to decline if that is the case. That would be a waste if time." She aaid to the man. "Though I will be keeping the card. It would be tude to return a gift wouldn't it?"

Nova Williams - King Arthur
Manhattan

Nova nodded, looking to the guy she had stepped on, then back to Alexander when he held up his card. Athena, was it? She looked to hers again. King Arthur... two very different figures from very different mythologies. What could possibly be the meaning behind these cards? Confused but intrigued, she followed Alexander as he walked towards his home, looking back to Damian as if to wonder if he was coming too.
