  Loud, outgoing, and the life of the party, Dae-Hyun lives for the thrill. Nothing is worth his time unless it's new and exciting. No matter how great the risk is, he lives in the here and now. It's no wonder that he ended up in such an aggressive sport. If he isn't living life on the edge, than what's the point? Dae-Hyun's overly impulsive decision making is not conducive to long term planning and commitment. His interest can only be held for so long, making his list of exes longer than some short stories. He lives for himself, and himself only. That philosophy not only gives him a pretty decent sized ego, but makes him incredibly insensitive. If you can stand his often haughty attitude and object rudeness, Dae-Hyun is actually incredibly fun if you're able to get yourself on the more friendlier side of him. He has a genuinely great sense of humor, is a very entertaining story teller, and his spontaneous ideas are an endless supply of enjoyment. Even despite him being incredibly blunt, his silver tongue often gets him off the hook. If he has an underlying agenda, he won't hesitate to use his charm to his advantage.   Dae-Hyun doesn't remember a time when he had real parents. He was only 18 months old when he was dropped off at a church and later taken to St. Mary's Orphanage in Busan, South Korea. It was found out, only weeks after his arrival, that both his parents had tragically passed. He was told when he was 10 that his mother died in childbirth and his father, so grief stricken and impoverished, took his own life after leaving him on the front steps. Dae-Hyun only has one picture of his biological parents, its a little crinkled and worn, but that's only because he's carried it with him all his life. As a young kid he used to wonder if life would have been any better had his mother never died, but now he's just learned to suck it up and deal with it. Wishful thinking never changed the past.
  
  A rowdy child, Dae-Hyun was a known trouble maker among the children. He wasn't a bully, but he always pulled pranks and never listened when he was told no. Food fights at lunch, sneaking extra cake, running away when it was time to come back inside, and all the usual things defiant children do. The nuns tried to be strict with him, but it never really worked. He couldn't tell you how many times he was punished. There was one nun in particular that used to get on his case a lot, but he always knew she had a certain motherly fondness for him. He was rather popular with all the other kids. As he grew, he became more and more fond of the younger kids, and even if it wasn't ideal, he found a home with all the other children who were left behind like he was. Life was as good as it could be.
  
  At the ripe old age of 13, he was told to pack his bags and get ready to leave. Dae-Hyun had apparently been adopted by the Choi family, which was incredibly surprising. You'd think that having a real home with parents would have sounded appealing, to an extent it was, but there was a part of him that never wanted to leave. But he had to. Dae-Hyun was told a lot of good things about Mr and Mrs Choi. That they were well off, they had a nice house, that they were good people, and that he could finally have a family to call his. That wasn't exactly the case. The Choi's, while doing a good dead, were never really cut out to be parents.
  
  They tried to parent him, believe me, but Dae-Hyun was still the unruly troublemaker he was ever since he was a toddler. Maybe they had expected a well mannered, thoughtful, nice kid, and he was none of those things. Dae-Hyun got the sense that they never really wanted him at all and just wanted the good name that was associated with adoption. That made him angry and even more abject to obeying them. He didn't care about grades, he got detentions all the time, and he never listened to his adoptive parents. All they did was yell at him when they were home, and they weren't ever really at home that much to begin with. Dae-Hyun didn't feel obligated to listen to them in any way, shape or form.
  
  Everyone has their breaking point, and the Choi's was a little over two years after his adoption. Tired of their new son misbehaving, they decided that what he needed was a more regimented watchful eye on him. They decided to send him to an all boys boarding school. Not just any boarding school though, a very exclusive and expensive one all the way across the world in Quebec, Canada. No matter how many times he told them that he didn't want to go, they never listened. Sent on a plane on his own in a foreign country that spoke a language that he was far from fluent it was terrifying. He'll probably never forgive them from taking away every sense of belonging and security he ever had.
  
  Getting used to everyone calling him Noah was weird and he always felt mentally exhausted from trying to understand everyone constantly. Just 15 and completely alone, Dae-Hyun was at first worse than he ever was before. Among the teachers he was one of those students, but he was pretty popular among everyone else. The reason he acted out so much? Attention. Frustration. He felt so unseen by everyone around him, and being a kid, he didn't know how to deal with those emotions. He finally found something, though, to throw all those negative emotions into. Hockey. He had two friends who were on the hockey team that told him to try out. Surprisingly, He was actually decently good even if he hadn't played hockey much. He used to ice skate and play around with the other kids on the pond nearby all the time at the orphanage where he grew up, giving him at least a basis to improve upon. To any extent, he made the team and quickly grew in skill.
  
  Now that he had his outlet for negative emotions and a reason to get good grades, Dae-Hyun started to get better. Not only that, but being a part of a team gave him something to belong to. Gave him a place to feel like he was needed and appreciated. Three years later and graduation fast approaching, Dae-Hyun was scouted to play for a few professional teams. Given a few offers, he eventually settled on playing for the Toronto Maple Leafs, where he started in their junior league at just 18. He loved the sport, and the people he played with. He steadily grew even more to be promoted the next year to play late in the season for an injured player. That was his ticket in as the next season he was put into the permanent roster. That year proved to be an amazing year for him as he set a record for most goals in a season and soon became a star player. He slept, ate, and breathed ice. If he wasn't playing a game, he was practicing. If he wasn't practicing, he was spending time with his teammates (his surrogate family) and going to parties. Dae-Hyun played just as hard as he worked, earning him a party boy and player reputation.
  
  In came the 2018 winter Olympics, which he was encouraged to try out for by his coach. Much to his surprise, he made it on the team and got the honor of playing for the Canadian team. At 21 he had accomplished so much already on the ice, only to have an even brighter future ahead of himself. Dae-Hyun made a name for himself. Noah Hwang was going to go down in Ice Hockey history, that was for sure. He acted like it to. Every win was a boost to his already big ego. That was until one unfortunate game where a particularly rough fight broke out between him and a player on the opposite team. Somehow his helmet was knocked off, leaving him unprotected when he was eventually slammed onto his back, smashing the back of his head into the ice.
  
  This wasn't his first concussion, however it was his worse. They worried about the damage he had received from the strong blow he endured. Of course he pushed through rehab, and of course he went back to practice. He knew that something was wrong though, especially when he started missing goals he would have never missed otherwise. It was then that his perfectly constructed plan for fame came crashing down around him. After a loosing streak due to his bad aim, Dae-Hyun was told he would be taken off the team, as he was now a liability. That was devastating. Everything he had ever worked for gone in a second. He found his place with his team, but now his sense of stability was stolen from him once again.
  
  He decided that the best place to recover from such a terrible loss was home, in Korea. There wasn't anything keeping him in Canada, and going back to a place that was familiar, his home town outside of Busan, felt like the best place to be. He flew back about 9 months prior and has been working a few odd jobs here and there to pay for bills. A few week ago, however, he was offered a similar job to the one he just left. Being part of a figure skating duo. At first, skating around all daintily in a bedazzled costume had no appeal at all. Though the more he thought about it, the more he wanted to at least try. The ice was where he felt most at peace, so if he could find his way back to the spotlight, what better way to do it than this.

  Being a baby when they died, Dae-Hyun never got the chance to meet them. A long time ago he used to wonder what they were like and even if he never had a relationship with them, he missed them. There was a phase where he was angry at them for leaving him, even if it wasn't his mother's choice and his father was obviously unwell. Now he doesn't really think often about what could have been. Staying in the past would only hold him back. That never stopped him from keeping their picture in a frame tucked away in his apartment.   Dae-Hyun wants nothing to do with them to be completely honest. The only thing positive thing he got from them was his love of hockey, and you can see where that's gotten him now. He was hopeful when they first adopted him that things were changing for the better. Their overbearing yet dismissive attitude when he first came to live with them, annoyed him to no end. They were often busy with work and seemed uninterested in his well being, they only saw his flaws. So if they thought him to be a bad kid, Dae-Hyun showed them bad kid. Being a terror of a teenager only lead them to send him off to a foreign country to be someone else's problem. When he went to the Olympics and made a name for himself, they claimed credit for him being so successful. Saying only through them taking him in had he bloomed into a star athlete.   Shin-il was 5 when he came to live at the orphanage where Dae-Hyun grew up. He was 9 at the time. The younger boy slept in the bunk below his. He used to cry a lot at night and it was not only annoying, but Dae-Hyun actually felt bad for him. That lead to him comforting him in the middle of the night when everyone else was asleep. Shin-il and him, despite the age difference, got a long really well and became like brothers. When Dae-Hyun was adopted, the two kept in touch as best they could, even when he moved to Canada. He felt (and still feels) a sense of protection over him, since he was the only "real" family it felt like he had.   Dae-Hyun has never had a relationship longer than a few months. The same was true with Eun-Hye. They met shortly after he came back to Korea at an ice skating rink where she was practicing. He had gone just to clear his head, as skating is very therapeutic for him. Dae-Hyun, being the flirt that he is, thought she was cute and decided to compliment her. Phone numbers were exchanged, leading to a first date, and then a few more dates after that. Their first go went about two months due to his fleeting interest. Something about her though pulled him back a few weeks later, only to fail again shortly after. The two have fallen into the habit since meeting 7 months ago of hook up, get back together, and break up only a few weeks later. They are currently back on again as of a few days ago due to a drunk text and subsequent breakfast. Dae-Hyun isn't 100% certain of his feelings for her. Dae-Hyun is competitive to his core, so having the challenge to be the thorn in her side she can't get rid of sounds splendid. Bull-headed and cocky himself, he doesn't think that Lee Yu-Ha has it in her to scare him off.   in all honesty, the criticisms against yu-ha aren't unfounded. they exaggerate, sure, but it's not a complete lie, either. yu-ha is well aware that she's not particularly likeable, but she thinks it a necessary sacrifice to maintain the standards that has gotten her this far in life. she's always been a perfectionist, with expectations set for both herself and others that are usually far beyond what most people are willing to give. it makes her particularly judgmental, and yu-ha has never been one to hold back on criticism. direct and straightforward, she'll tell it to you like it is, even if it's not the most prettiest of words. she's hard on others (and hardest on herself), a trait that some might deem pickiness, but she strongly believes that it's a matter of taking pride in your work. if you truly love what you do, you'd do it well, and if others aren't doing it right, you do it yourself. yu-ha preaches separating personal matters from work issues, but hypocritically fails to put it into practice— someone's work ethic can seriously damage her impression of them. she prides diligence above all, and if someone's not able to deliver that, well, it says a lot about who you are, doesn't it?
  
  yu-ha's especially critical towards teammates and colleagues who don't prioritise the same things as her. she's always been the stubborn type, though it gives her a determination unlike any other, and it's the same with her perspectives. the way she always believes she's right is insufferable, and her ego makes it difficult for her to admit that she's made a mistake. she likes to believe it's a rare occurrence, only because of how hard she tries. as much as she chases success while propagating hard work, yu-ha is impatient, needing any sort of near gratification to validate her work. she's susceptible to mood swings when she doesn't get tangible evidence of her achievements, which are often channelled into pushing herself even more. sure, she knows her limits, but sometimes she just doesn't care; a pessimist, but not a realist. yu-ha's always had trouble relaxing, and her devotion-nearing-obsession with her sport has made it so that she's barely been around the city despite it being her third year here. her acceptance of having to play the "bad guy" seems to have given her the justification to close herself off emotionally, setting aside feelings and putting work first. she rarely talks about her issues, wholly believing that she'll be able to handle it herself.

  to speak of yu-ha's history without mentioning her love for figure skating is as good as not speaking of it at all. she's been figure skating for just about her entire life, starting at a tender age of 6 at a local rink. she'd dabbled in ballet before but had found herself inexplicably drawn to the ice after her first visit, and her parents had allowed her to take up the hobby, fully expecting it to be nothing more than a phase and an achievement on her future application for university. they had high hopes for their child that went past lofty ideas of a career as a competitive figure skater— yu-ha's future would be in the confines of a stuffy office or the sterile hallways of a hospital, not in front of the eyes of millions of people while she danced around in dainty, pointed shoes.
  
  yu-ha, of course, had other plans, and without her parents ever realising until it was too late, her passion for figure skating had grown to the point that she was ready to throw everything away to chase her dreams. she didn't know what she was expecting when she told her parents that she wanted to attend a sports high school and fully focus on the sport. it was the first time she really argued with her mother, involving a whole lot of yelling, screaming and door-slamming. sure, she'd been hoping to receive acceptance, promises of unconditional support, but the reality of the matter was much crueller. it was several months of back-and-forth before her mother finally relented, but not without an ominous prediction that yu-ha would soon realise she had no place in the sporting world. if she failed to succeed, she would do whatever her parents had planned for her.
  
  defiant, she accepted the challenge, but her mother's words would echo in her mind before every competition. yu-ha was determined not to let it affect her, and throughout her high school years, she swept most competitions she participated in. her parents rarely appeared to support her, her mother still refusing to acknowledge any of her daughter's accomplishments despite her evident prowess in the sport. yu-ha took it in stride, though her heart ached at the fact that she felt like she was braving it all alone. not even a "good job" when she got on the korean national team. to say it didn't hurt her would be a lie, though yu-ha had gotten used to pretending like everything was fine.
  
  come graduation, she followed her coach to busan, moving to an entirely new city with nary a proper goodbye to her parents. her mother had little to say to her, her dad gave her a bit of money and an off-hand "good luck", but that was it. she continued her training in busan, working towards the 2018 winter olympics. she entered with high hopes, though her final ranking of seventh was far below her expectations, even if she placed top ten. she did get a message from her parents this time, though it only upset rather than comforted her. it was her first roadblock, and things only seemed to go down from there. yu-ha failed to perform at the next nationals, suffering a minor ankle injury that gave her the lowest ranking she'd ever gotten at a national competition in the past two years and ruined her chances of getting back on the national team. as if adding fuel onto the fire, the coach declared that she should focus on pair skating, a decision that both infuriated and devastated her. his reasoning that she had hit her peak as a solo skater, and trying a new discipline would only be good for her. nevermind that it was clear he had biases against her age and towards a younger skater that had joined only a few months earlier who's potential he was always singing praise about. nevermind that eun-hye herself was far below yu-ha's level. but he would not budge, no matter how much she demanded another shot.

    yu-ha's strict, conservative mother, and the most against her decision to pursue ice skating as a career. she's always been very critical of her daughter, never one to hold back on harsh words but incredibly sparing with compliments. she truly cares about her daughter and wants the best for her, but fails to express it most of the time. after yu-ha left her hometown, junghwan has spoken to her maybe twice on the phone, both times with curt responses and a less-than-enthusiastic reaction to yu-ha's successes. it always left her moody, so yu-ha decided to just not. not talk to her on the phone, not go back for chu-seok. it's been a few years since she's seen them in person and at least several months past their last conversation, but yu-ha's convinced her mother still doesn't believe she can do it, and she has no plans on backing off first. she has consistently sent birthday presents through her father, though.
