One of Oblivion
- As the testers had continue to converse with each other three people, two males and a female in lab coats walked in wearing lab coats. One was an older man with a cigarette in his mouth, the other male was younger and had glasses, as the female was about the same age as the younger male but with a deadpan face and waist long hair. The older took a drag of his cig before he spoke. “Kumoi, is this all of them?” He asked and the younger guy pulled out a clipboard and looked through it. “Yes this is how many of them that showed up so far.” He said and the older guy sighed letting smoke out with it. “I was expecting more. Fine they’ll be missing out. Kuchiku, grabbed their electronic devices.” The old man ordered and the woman stepped up in front of him only to stop. Then without hesitation, she grabbed his cigarette from his lips and broke it. “Kuchiku…” The old man said in a low grumble but sighed in defeat. “Fine just go…” He said then looked back at the testers as Kumoi tried to hide a chuckle, and Kuchiku started to go to the testers now asking for their devices…more like demanded.
The old man then sighed again before speaking again. “Welcome, testers of my new system. I am Kyugo, the head scientist, developer, and creator of the system you will be testing out momentarily. This is Kumoi, my right hand man, and she is my daughter, Kuchiku.” He told them as she was gathering the tester’s devices. She just snatched them out of their hands as they were presented to her. “Sorry part of the agreement is that you aren’t allowed any recording device when the testing is about to take place.” Kyugo said to them as he looked them all over. He was hoping for a bit more diversity in the group, but he would take what they could get.
Before Kyugo was about to speak again, Kumoi whispered in his ear. He nodded and looked back at the group. “We are sorry for the delays but we are also in a hurry today as well. So We’ll explain things along the way to the test sight.” Kumoi said as Kyugo turned to the door to leave. “C’mon.” Kyugo said as he started to lead the group to their destination. Kumoi followed Kyugo as Kuchiku followed behind the whole group watching them to make sure they didn’t have any stragglers or wonderers. Those that looked at her would see no change in expression, but could probably sense a dangerous aura coming from her. “Hopefully by the time we get there you won’t have any questions for us…” Kyugo said mainly to himself as they walked down the halls. For a work place it was surprisingly empty.
“Now I know some of you at least wondered what our system really is. Is it like those VR systems you seen on line, or just an add-on to that current system.” Kyugo told them as if he was quoting their thoughts. “But in reality, it’s neither. My system is nothing like those out dated concepts nor is it related to them in the slightest.” Kyugo confirmed. “The furthest current VR tech has come along is using motion controls with a head set to simulate freedom of movement in game, but in the end that is nowhere close to what we’re looking to active.” Kumoi continued explaining for Kyugo. “What our system will do is make that game as real as possible to the user, making it hard to tell what the true reality is.” Kyugo continued though he didn’t seem that pleased or rather impressed with it.
“We achieve this using the brain itself of the user as a processor in the system to make it as real as possible.” Kumoi cut it. “You think that this has to connect to your brain directly, but you couldn’t be more wrong.” Kumoi said as he looked back at the group with a simple kind smile, but could be seen as creepy. “The human brain let’s out signals similar to that of a radio tower. Our system latches on to those signals or rather brainwaves to make the connection through our specially made gear. Like how Wifi works.” He explained. “With this you can experience things other than sight and sound. You can even experience things that you normally wouldn’t…maybe even something that you have't in a long time?” Kyugo mention directing that last comment towards Gabriel with his eye patch as he glanced over his shoulder at him. “Though this is only due to the user being in a subconscious state such as Sleep.” Kumoi cut in again. “The brainwaves emitted become a lot stronger when asleep than awake.” He continued. “Oh and for those that sleep walk among you, the head gear that connects your brainwave to the system, will halt your motor skills as you are under.” Kumoi said in a matter of fact way. “Yeah, but they’ll still be strapped down just in case…” Kyugo said under his breath making I seem like a cough, but Kumoi still shot him a look.
Kyugo then cleared his throat again. “There is still a lot about the system capabilities that are unknown to us however. Mostly due to lack of knowledge about the human brain itself…But that is why you are here. To help us discover this system’s potential as you play along with the game.” He said though said game in an unenthused manner. “Pretty much its limitations are up to you.” He told them as started to approach a large sealed mechanized door at the end of a hall. He pulled out a ID card from his lab coat. He swiped it and entered a code and the door started to open up on its own. Inside was rows of computers and people working at them leading up to a massive monitor in the back and a room connected to this one. With how things looked with the door and computer room, it looked like a down grade scene from a sci fi movie.
Kyugo lead the tester down the middle to the front of the room. As they passed people they didn’t pay the testers any mind and just continued to work on their computers like robots. Kyugo then held his hand up to gesture the testers to stop when they were in perfect view of the massive monitor as he and the two other walked up in front of it. “Ok now we’re going demonstrate how you’re going to be hooked up into the system.” He said as he turned to them then a woman in a nurse outfit came out with a hospital bed from the other room to in front of the three. “But we’ll need a volunteer first.” Kyugo said then looked among them. “You with the hood?” He called out, but Kumoi stopped him. “That’s Rusine sir…The terminally ill one from the family…” He reminded Kyugo. “Well then who should be the first?” He asked Kumoi in a whisper. “I say the red haired one. He’s a pro gamer and can go through the character creation without much hassle.” Kumoi told him. “What gaming’s a profession now? What is this world coming to…” Kyugo said in his normal voice. “Fine whatever. Ginger you’re our volunteer.” He said and gestured with his head to come up to the bed.
When Austin came up, he made a protest to Kyugo about his hair being red not orange but was ignored by Kyugo though. “I’ll be leaving this explanation in Kumoi’s hand.” Kyugo said as he stepped back and let Austin lay in the bed now. Austin then had some head gear placed on his head now. When Austin was under, the nurse started to strap him down with Kuchiku’s help. “Uh, don’t worry about that it’s just security precaution. As with different person, there are different results.” He explained a bit nervously hoping that eased their worries.
Kumoi then cleared his throat as he straitened himself out. Kyugo started to light another cigarette behind Kumoi. Kuchiku immediately tried to stop him but could only struggle as her face was being held back at arm's length by Kyugo effortlessly with one arm. It was like a scene from a skit behind Kumoi now. Kumoi sighed and decided to ignore them as he turned on the monitor. On it showed a third person view of Austin in an empty room. “Alright this is the first room you enter when you go through the system.” He told the group as he watched the monitor as well. “First thing you are able to do is create and customize your game character. You first choose a a name, then a race and then you can edit its features. Height, weight, muscle tone, facial features…all customizable. But if you don’t want to go through the time and edit that, you can always choose random for those features. Don’t worry, the features in the randomizer won’t turn out monstrous like how some like to do. And The choice of race is pretty expansive.” Kumoi explained. “Oh and another thing, Races have certain stat ranges. Like elves are more offensive than defensive, as Dwarfs are more physical than magical beings.” He said briefly as Austin was going through races. “As for Classes, you have a choice of four; Warrior, Archer, Mage, and Rogue. Each raise certain stats no matter the race. Example, Warrior raise attack and Defense, as Mage raise magical attack and defense. But each class can carry two useable weapons at one time and you get to select what you use at the start, though different classes can use certain weapons. You also start out with 10K in gold too.” He said. “Now about the outfits you have an expansive selection, but at the start are nothing more than a costume. You can get other armor, but will not change how you look. In game, just change your stats. This is because it’s a demo, not the whole game. We had to take some features out.” He said with a chuckle meaning they will be wearing the same armor through the whole time in game. As Austin went through the rest of the character creation, Kumoi briefly explained things in much detail as he thought was needed.
As Austin entered the game itself, Kumoi finished his explanation. “Alright, any questions? If not head over to the room over and prepare to enter the game. Anything about Game play, refer to the help guide in the start menu in game.” He told them as the nurse directed the tester to the next room. Inside was like a hospital room with rows of hospital bed and machines to watch their vitals as well as other nurses. Those who were ready were helped set up by the nurses.

They all then left to where they were going to be doing the test at. Kyugo lead with Kumoi in tow and Kuchiku behind everyone. Austin looked back at her and could swear he felt a presence of a beast ready to pounce. ‘I haven’t felt anything like that since high school…’ Austin thought as he looked back up front as Kyugo mentioned explaining things. Hearing the explanation of the system, Austin was surprised about how spot on he was, though he couldn’t be too excited as he still had to see it to believe it. But the smirk on his face showed a bit of his excitement at least.
Austin followed what they said for the most part. He didn’t fully understand what all they were saying but got the gist at least. All he needed to know is that it was real virtual reality, and not the other stuff.
Before long, they arrived as a very secure door that seemed to be pulled out of a movie or something. Kyugo opened it for them and lead them all in. Inside was an unimpressive computer room. Other than the number of computers, there seemed to be nothing great about it. It just seemed like an office floor without the cubicles for privacy. Austin looked around as they lead up to the monitor. “This would be my life if I stayed in school…” He said with a bit of relief in his voice. He then looked up at Kyugo as he said they were going to need a volunteer to demonstrate how to get into the game. Kyugo then picked someone in back, but Kumoi changed Kyugo’s mind to choose Austin. Hearing Kyugo’s disapproval of gaming as a profession had Austin raise an eyebrow as he now questioned this guy being the system’s developer. When he was called Ginger got a growl from Austin before he stepped up. “There’s a difference between red hair and orange you know…” Austin said to Kyugo agitatedly, but only got ignored. Austin clicked his tongue and went to the hospital bead brought out to for him. He laid down in the bed without another fuss and let them place the head gear on him. It was more like a helmet than anything.
After a moment, the noises of his surroundings faded and Austin found himself in an empty room. He looked around confused. He then looked at his hands and clothes. They were all the same. “Am I in the game…?” He asked himself then decided to look around. Then a window appeared before him. It acted as a full body mirror with another smaller window appeared by his hand. It looked like a character creation menu like at the start of some games. Figuring it out quickly Austin started making his character. He first selected a race then class, Demon and Warrior respectfully, before doing the features. He went with the same height and muscle tone he had but went with whatever the random option gave him. He then picked the most demonic looking armor they had or rather he liked, and picked a great sword and gauntlets as his weapons. ‘If it’s as much of actual VR as they saw, then I should be able to fight as I have in the past.’ He thought with a smirk then finally hit confirm for him character.
The walls then started to disappears into cube particle effects revealing a medieval town before him. Austin looked awe struck as people walked by him in the middle of the street. He was just over whelmed as he could smell the fresh air, feel the breeze against his skin, hell even seeing the NPCs around him actually react to him just standing there commenting on his armor was just too much. When a cart came by and a guy yelled at him to get out of the way, Austin jumped and moved quickly and watched it go by. “Is this really happening…!” he said to himself as he rubbed the back of his head. When his hand fell to his side he noticed a menu pulled up. He put a hand to his mouth as he went through the menu. He found in his inventory an item called the nomicon. He tapped it and a book appeared before him. “Uh…” He said then looked around. “I…guess I better read it while I wait for other’s to arrive.” He said then found a outdoor table of a pub to sit at as he read. - Kishune

Soon a set of three people in lab coats walked in to the break room suddenly, grabbing Rusine’s attention; more cause the coats than the people themselves. He didn’t pay much attention as they spoke among themselves till the female of the group took the older guy’s cig and broke it. Rusine raised an eyebrow at this then thought the woman looked directly at him with her expressionless face for a moment. He then watched the woman as she walked around to the other testers collecting phones as the older guy started to introduce themselves to them. ‘Kyugo…Kumoi…and Kuchiku…KKK?’ Rusine thought as he put a hand to his shin and looked up in confusion. ‘Where have I heard that from…?’ Rusine thought but was interrupted as Kuchiku walked up to him and Alfred demanding their phones. Rusine looked up at her and shook his head to signal he had no such thing. She then bent down and got into Rusine’s face as she stared him in the eyes through the glasses. “Uh…?” Wasn’t hard to tell he was nervous as he slowly sunk unto the seat he was in to try and get away. Then suddenly the woman backed away and took Alfred’s phone if he had one. “That…was weird…” He said as he scratched the side of his head with a finger.
When they were ready to get going to the test site, Rusine got up from his chair and followed in the back of the group. As they walked, Rusine could tell the two males were explaining things up front, but Rusine wasn’t paying attention as he just wanted to get this over with. Noticing the woman wasn’t upfront with them; Rusine looked around for her only to find she was in the back with him, practically next to him. Rusine blinked in surprised but as he looked at her he didn’t sense a dangerous aura…probably due to his inexperience with those of the opposite sex. He then looked back up front and was more surprised and slightly freaked by the Kumoi guy’s smile. He even hid behind Kuchiku, but she just pushed him back in front of her. Rusine was a bit embarrassed by that display for some reason.
They then seem to have arrived at the test site with a locked door in the way. Kyugo opened it and they were walked in. To most this room wouldn’t look impressive, but for Rusine to see so many computers in one place was amazing as it was difficult to keep his one computer organized enough to be in his room, due to how much the wires were a mess. But his amazement was dulled with the number of people in the room as well. He followed the group to the back where the monitor was at and stayed in the back of the group. He listened to the guys now as they asked for a volunteer. The old guy first called Rusine up but the younger seemed to change his mind. Rusine just let out a quick sigh as he didn’t care, but he watched and listened carefully as this all seemed important now.
Rusine had a hard time keeping up with what Kumoi was talking about, but didn’t start freaking out as he almost did with Alfred as he figured it all didn’t relate to him…or so he told himself to stay calm, though the scene behind Kumoi kinda helped too.. When they were asked for any questions and let go to the next room to get strapped in, Rusine just went to the room. In the room was a familiar sight to Rusine; rows of medical beds with medical equipment beside them. “Sigh…I'm here no matter where I go…” He said to himself then went to get strapped down now. He was asked to take his mask and glasses off now before they put the head dear on, and once they were off they showed his black eye.
After Rusine was in the game, he was confused as to what to exactly do. It took him awhile but he finally was able to make the menu appear and he started going through it. “Ok…what do I want to be?” He asked himself as he went through the options. He then found Kitsune in the race menu. He thought back to a story he read of a fox that got taken over by darkness. He remembered liking it, so he decided to go for a black Kitsune. Features he made a taller, more muscular character with Asian style tattoos. Hair was ragged with a long rat tail on the back. “Well if I’m going to do this I better go all out.” He said with a smirk. For his outfit/armor he went shirtless with arm wraps, and pants similar to parachute pants or ninja pants. He even selected a fox mask to wear. When he was done with that he just chose two weapons at random and put the name of the fox from the story as the name.
When he entered it the room started to disappear around him, surprising him a bit. As the world revealed itself was when his sense of disbelief started to fade away. Just like Austin before him, Rusine now Kishune, was awe struck at what was around him. This was not like any video game he has seen played or heard about. He looked at the people who were passing by murrmering something. “Great, another freak show in a weird get up.” Someone said. “Worse yet, this one’s a demihuman…” Another said in disgust. Kishune heard this but didn’t care about what they were saying. He just went up to one and grabbed them by their arm. “You…You were just talking right now? You’re talking…you’re reacting…” He said realizing things one step at a time. “Let go of me you freak!” the person yelled. “I’m feeling…” He said then let go as he realized her felt the fabric of their clothes. “I’m feeling…moving, and reacting!” He said as he put his hands to the side of his head feeling the mask on his face. “Ok, I’m either dreaming or I have finally died…?” He said to himself still in shock about all of this.
