sigmund-jzz_3jWMzHA-unsplash.jpg sigmund-MQ2xYBHImKM-unsplash.jpgName: Iona Calhoun
Nickname: Pigeon, Pig to closer friends
Age: 24
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Pansexual

Personality: Upon first meeting Iona doesn’t necessarily have an imposing physical presence, but she’s stronger than her average height would indicate since she’s been in some form of policing job since she could legally work. Iona is friendly and chatty with strangers, and is good at reading people, partly due to her training and partly due to a natural aptitude. Iona works well under pressure and isn’t generally impulsive, but becomes too invested in situations where it would be easier to walk away. This is why she’s seemingly adopted the discarded houseplants of people she barely even knows, no matter how difficult it would be to nurse them back to health. Iona tends to go too far, sometimes, for the things that she loves - consequences don’t matter when a seemingly gigantic problem is presented to her. She tries to see the good in everyone, even if she has evidence they don't have the best intentions.

Bio: After being born on the gray settlement of Moon-2, Iona longed for a life that was far away from her hometown. There were only a few kids her age growing up, and though she didn’t mind the company of adults, she always longed for a more varied social life. She has also been fond of both greenery and animals, and though there were quite a few pets at the retirement community, Iona was never allowed to own any due to her mother's allergies. Iona joined up with a private security firm in hopes that she would be able to see more of the world and meet new people. She worked security on Moon-2 for many years before being transferred to the station, where she's been established for a few months. An incident where she handily caught two teenagers stealing packages caused her supervisor to recognize she wasn't totally incompetent, and that her skills could be used elsewhere. (Or maybe he wanted to get rid of her, because he was annoyed that she would talk to him for hours on end about nothing, but Iona doesn't know that.)

Example:
Human/terran
[carbon life form]
Neo-humans, basically. Despite the usual depiction in terran entertainment as explorers and justice bringers, or the middle ground "jack of all trades, master of none", in reality, terrans are considered curious and overly ambitious, loud, creative, and colourful. They became the source of most entertainment in the galaxies: most types of film, written and said word, music, theatre, and games comes from terrans. They are one of only two species to have musicals and operas. During the millennia living in tight communities on the stations, human races have mixed completely, evening out their looks into brown-skinned people with light-brown to black hair colour and yellowish-brown eyes with rare natural blues and greys, although tattoos, genetically modified melanin levels, and dyes are quite popular. Terrans for the most part (mau being the second ones) are responsible for creating Angels, which is the reason for many ignorant people to look down at them.

?/Canite
[carbon life form]
An unfortunate species, canites were influenced by terrans to the extreme, when early on in their history, one of the terran cruisers lost and crash-landed on their planet that was the only one almost identical to Earth and suitable for terrans. They've spent a lot of time on the planet, among generally friendly and curious creatures, that were in absolute awe of the visitors, and wouldn't let go of their attempts to whether travel with them, or contact the outer space once more, effectively stopping their natural progress. This caused significant problems in their development, ecology, and population, forcing others to keep up contact in fear of the species going extinct. Canites, easily indoctrinated, lost their sense of self entirely - even their specie's real name they have forgotten (fact supported by their lack of written language and keeping information through the word of mouth), using the one terran crew gave them instead, thinking they looked like humanoid dogs when they first saw them. Canites are a survivalist, utilitarian species that can adjust to any environment in just a couple of generations (the trait which is actively researched, seen as a possible source of universal panacea), that is generally incapable of discovery of their own, and prefer to be involved in servitude and manual labour. They are small, lean creatures covered in brown to tan fur with few white or crimson individuals, and somewhat resemble whether large dogs or otters, or small bears - hence the name. Their native planet lies mostly abandoned, left to rot in what looks like their industrial age. Their modern culture revolves around travel, and canites will generally do anything to get aboard a ship... provided it's with their families, which usually consists of a female, her harem of three to six consorts, and up to ten children and her and consorts' mothers, which is, of course, makes it hard for them to actually get a place aboard.

Kieth/Burlatian
[carbon life form]
Strikingly different from their planet neighbours, kieth are small, fur-covered creatures, excessively inventive and adventurous, usually assimilating to new environments with such an ease it almost looks like they are weak-willed and easily manipulated, which is far from truth. Kieth are passive when it comes to culture and mannerisms, easily taking after the other species, and not caring for their own cultural preservation. They are small, stocky, and very swift; many of them moving to the stations to tend to them, having high levels of curiosity, and ability to improvise, as well as generally overburdening nature towards things they are made to care about. Having one as a mechanic on the ship, for instance, would mean it being in the top shape even if it means for a kieth to quite literally starve to death; having one as a bodyguard would mean eternal conflict of them with people who - again, quite literally - look at their boss the wrong way.
