Appearance: Jun is one of the rare few 50%+ cyborgs, with more than half of his body given over to cybernetic enhancement. He stands approximately 5'8" tall, five inches taller than he should have been, due to the artificial limbs he is fitted with and his chassis (it could hardly be called a body any more) is athletically built. His face is slender and his left eye is brown, while his right eye has been replaced with a cybernetic replacement. He has several data transfer nodes with retractable jack leads that hang from the base of his skull and he wears a detachable hairpiece, since seeing his titanium-reinforced skull is often disconcerting for most people.

Birthplace: Kyoto, Japan.

Character Skills:

  • Major Skill 1: Wetwork and Counter-Intelligence Operative - Jun was trained and operates as an assassin and spy for the past eight years. His primary skillset includes: concealment in urban, rural and industrial settings, silent execution, woundless execution, infiltration techniques, hand-to-hand and armed combat and sabotage.
  • Minor Skill 1: EVA combat - Jun's cyborg enhancements allow him to operate effectively in zero-gravity, hard vacuum environments and he has evolved that ability into an effective fighting form.
  • Minor Skill 2: Investigation - Jun has a natural talent for researching and uncovering that which others would wish kept hidden. He is able to take disparate and apparently unconnected factors and draw links between them with a high degree of skill.
  • Minor Skill 3: Pianist - In his earlier life, Jun was an accomplished piano player, but when his disease took his hands and left him with prosthetics, he rarely played, saying that he could no longer sense the keys as well as he used to. Now, with so much of his body consumed by cold machinery, he has returned to his music in the hopes of keeping the fire of his soul burning.

Character Flaws: (Things your character is unskilled in, things that are ether their weaknesses or limitations.) You need to have 3 minimum flaws but you can have more if you want.

  • Disadvantage 1: Degenerative disease - Jun has been afflicted with a rare degenerative disorder, caused by his body's own immune system, which is slowly eating away at his body. Bit by bit, his organic parts are dying off and he is increasingly forced to rely on cybernetics to continue his life. Soon, all that will be left of him is his brain, but no-one knows if that will be immune to the degeneration...
  • Disadvantage 2: More Machine Than Man - Jun is a rare example of the extreme end of cyborg hybridisation. And as such, he is an discomforting reminder to other humans of just how easily humans can be 'replaced' by machines. He has difficulties interacting with humans and even those with a lesser amount of hybridisation and tends to keep his own company.
  • Disadvantage 3: Maintenance - The line between human and machine becomes increasingly blurry in Jun's case, as can be evidenced by the maintenance routine he must undergo at regular intervals. He does not need to eat as regularly as normal humans, but he still requires food; a nutrient rich jelly-like sauce which maintains his biological functions. He also has to undergo regular periods of repair and testing of his chassis to ensure that it is working at its optimal capacity. The requirement for these maintenance periods vary depending on his level of activity and any damage sustained.
  • Disadvantage 4: Damage - Having a cybernetically-enhanced body has its advantages, but on the downside it is also a major disadvantage. Any damage sustained cannot be repaired over time, like a human body. It must be repaired in the mechanical sense, in a workshop by qualified professionals. In addition to that, there are many vital systems which maintain his vital biological functions. If these are damaged, then he is under very grave threat of death, if repairs are not soon forthcoming.

Psionics or Cybernetics: 65% cybernetic enhancement: combat-enhanced (armored, strength-multiplied) limbs, reinforced musculo-skeletal system (titanium bone structure, enhanced bio-mechanical muscles), hard vacuum adaptations (pressurised retractable eyecovers, internal oxygen supply and CO2 scrubber, external pressure equalising systems, integrated short-wave comm system), zero gravity adaptation (electro-adhesive palmar and plantar surfaces, gyroscopic stabiliser, orientation and propulsion venturi system), integrated weapon systems (integrated mono-edge knife in right thigh housing, mono-filament wire coiled in left wrist), computer integration node (located at base of skull, allowing direct neural interface with computer systems), optical enhancement (right eye only, allows for low-light and passive infra-red vision, can also provide smart-optic link to adapted firearms), color-adaptive outer skin (color can be changed to suit environment to a greater or lesser extent, replicates most commonly used camouflage schemes as well as single hues, black, white, blue, etc.).

Profession: UEF Special Forces Captain

Personal Goals: Surviving the disease ravaging his body, defending the UEF and the people of Earth, finding some way of one day having a family of his own.

Fears: Dying alone and uncared-for, Failing to protect those he pledged to defend.

Optimism vs. Pessimism: Jun is often quite balanced in his outlook, though his disease often gives him a strongly pessimistic outlook on his future, especially when his doctors tell him about the new damage his disease has inflicted.

Introvert vs. Extrovert: Prior to his disease really taking hold, Jun was a lively extrovert with a broad circle of friends. But as time passes and his physical form becomes more mechanical, so he withdraws from his friends and family, ashamed at how his is degenerating.

Justice vs. Mercy: Jun is strongly in favour of justice over mercy. The law must be absolute, though when he is required to kill, he favours a swift, merciful execution over the gory, drawn-out splatterfests enjoyed by some of his more extreme compatriots. Jun has never resorted to physical torture to gain information and has only willingly harmed women under extreme duress. He has never wilfully harmed a child.

Feelings on the Union: Jun, as can be expected for a captain of the UEF Special Forces, is strongly in favour of the fragile, but precious, Union. While he understands that some of the decisions the Union delegates make are objectionable, on the whole it serves humanity as a whole and is a far better solution than the fractious and conflicting regimes of the past.

Common Mannerisms: Jun has a habit of finger-juggling anything up to and including throwing knives when he is not actively doing anything. The effect of this, considering his faster-than-human reflexes and enhanced musculature, means that he can turn an object into a whistling, flashing blur between his rapidly-moving fingers.

Interests & Hobbies: Aside from playing the piano, Jun also enjoys appreciation of all the arts. In his few periods of off-duty, he tends to dress as humanly as he can and attends art galleries, exhibitions, dance recitals, theatre performances, anything. He has a strong desire to keep connected to the passionate side of his psyche, to offset the coldness of his cybernetics.

Overall Personality: In his professional capacity, Jun is a stone-cold professional, limiting his emotional response to a minimum to allow him to execute his orders efficiently. Outside of work, he exhibits a wry sense of humour, with a touch of melancholy when he observes other people pursuing romantic relationships.

History: Born to a middle-class family in Kyoto, Jun had an average upbringing in Japan's second capital, attending school, after-school activities and enjoying the life of a modern young man. He was even the concert pianist in his school chamber orchestra. That was until he fell into a hypoglycaemic coma while out with his friends after a concert. When he came to in the hospital, his doctors were unsure as to how he could have suddenly developed with Type I diabetes.

More tests followed and it was discovered that he not only had Type I diabetes, but was in the early stages of liver sclerosis, kidney disease and several degenerative muscle and bone disorders. His body, the doctors surmised, was actively trying to kill itself. He was placed on a cocktail of drugs to counter the damage, but they were little more than stopgap measures. The doctors did more tests and tried to counter his body's immune system with different drugs, but it eventually overcame even the maximum safe dose of those drugs.

Then his liver failed. It died. The doctors attempted a transplant, but his body rejected the transplant within hours of the operation. Even a stem-cell generated liver was attacked by Jun's over-active immune system. The only alternative was to implant a bulky artificial liver. But to make space, the doctors had to remove his stomach and several feet of his intestines. So it was, at the age of 14, he never ate solid food again.

Over the next few years, his body degenerated further, costing his parents a fortune in medical bills to keep apace of the disease that slowly consumed all living matter in his body. By the age of 18, he was 35% cybernetically enhanced and his parents were out of money. He decided to take action for himself and offered his services to the UEF. Initially, the UEF was reluctant to accept his application, but he had been maintaining his fitness to help counter the ravaging effects of his disease, putting himself in the top tier of applicants for the Special Forces. So he was accepted and the UEF footed the bill to continue his gradual hybridisation.

He has moved into the Grey Ops division of the Special Forces, the organisation known as VORTICE Cell-9 and was deployed in battle to distinguish himself on operations against the Tha'Kar invasion forces, often pushing himself and the men he was with to great feats simply by virtue of his implacable mental fortitude. Eventually by virtue of his skill, ability and inspirational leadership, he rose to the rank of Captain. He now retains that rank, working either as a sole operative or heading up a full unit with support elements, such as transport or strike air/spacecraft, land or sea-borne artillery. He rarely has contact with his old circle of friends, due to the nature of his work, and his parents have been seeing less and less of him as time goes by.
