The seasons of his words faded in and out like soft lullabies; buds springing to unravel in the spring of their past and wither in the autumn of the present. Then in his gaze came winter to be delivered, ruthless in its peeling of naive smiles and the credulous thoughts which lingered beneath; sprouting in the shape of verdant stalks bearing the blossoms of wishes made upon shooting stars.
The values of her existence shriveled and shrank, her facade of humanity laid bare in its transparency under the golden light and her words plucked empty on their swiveling distress.
She had disappointed him.
The realization strung painfully across the chords of her denuded soul, mind fluttering and gaze averting in the bitter shame which cruelly tugged at the corners of her mouth. At the same time, she struggled, struggled to grasp the fabrics of the truth that William had delayed to her. Because despite everything she wanted to believe, a little prayer of I'll find a way settling in her new facade of life.
"Well, you know how I am." She began, diamond orbs finding their way back to the dark silhouette of her friend "'A fool that can't be helped' I believe is what you once said."
The strength which he spoke of was surely the one which resided under white resin powder in tetrahedral structures but in the stories that had unraveled on the pages of her books, there had been other kind of strengths. Strengths she had yet to understand in their complexity but that was still definitely different from the one born in the edges of blades and conflict. One that did not revel in the histories of scars and pain but in the dawn of a new day.
As she came to ponder over the scribbles of black upon the pages of white she suddenly stumbled over musings of William's knowledge on the subject. And, as ridiculous as it sounded, if perhaps she would one day be the one to teach him about those strengths if he did not know.
Perhaps there were things even William couldn't comprehend.
With a hushed giggle, Idun returned to her former self; worries, insecurities, and doubts coming apart with not a shout but in the formation of lips curling upwards and the motion of her putting a dandelion behind her ear. A motion which she thereafter replicated upon William, slender fingers reaching and placing a sun of his own behind his ear.
“You want one Jack?” She beamed at the taller male who had come to join them.
