Fantasy Fire Emblem Divide: Luna x Solaris

It was dark by the time Luna finally made it into the camp where his brother was kept. As his weary figure drew itself through the sandy barracks, the object of his namesake had already taken its rightful place in the sky high above, hidden by celestial shadows.

He had had to stop several times to ask for directions, receiving blank stares after inquiring into the resting place of one 'Solaris Mell,' though such were better met than the thing Luna feared more: recognition. Despite his normally bold nature, somehow he couldn't find it in himself to meet these strangers' gazes, pulling the hood of his traveling cloak down as he called to them, wondering how long he could rightfully follow the path of this new life before his past decisions caught up. All it would take is one former foe...

But it seemed he wasn't the only one too tired to pay strangers much mind. No one questioned the new presence in their camp, though a few congratulated him upon learning the freshness of his recruitment.

Truly it had been not just one day of weary travel for the young man, but many. He felt as if a certain madness had driven him day and night across the sunny Aurhalzen plains through the misty Komodan forests and finally into the dusty dry of Dinne. It was only his second time in the desert country, and he doubted he would ever get used to the perpetual feeling of sand beneath his improperly-dressed feet. The blur of monotonous color as he had been swept like so many grains inside the Legion headquarters, chasing down official after informant after records keeper just to find the location of his aim. It seemed as if this makeshift army was in no better straights than his last...chaos being the Monolith's true reign.

Luna couldn't even say for how long he had searched. How many weeks since he had risked that dangerous last heady visit to his paramour, slipping away from Alliance soldiers hot on his heels...the very people just a moon before he would have proudly referred to as his friends. He could only hope to find as worthy men and women in the heat of this strange new home. But as providence brought him to the right shack at last, he figured that that could all wait till morning. In truth he half considered putting aside even Solaris for the night, the possibility of simply slipping into the nearest unoccupied bed and throwing over himself sheets to block away the confusing world all too tempting.

But as he at last entered the stuffy bed-lined room, seeing the person he had so long sought, who owed him so many answers...every prior emotion inside him broke. It was like a wellspring washing over him all at once...happiness, relief, anger, sorrow, fear. He couldn't even say which came to the top of his lips as he approached his twin.

"Long time no see."

Nighttime was the perfect time for Solaris. He didn't have to do anything for other people, and could truly focus on what he wanted to do. Unless somebody came sprinting in saying they needed a healer and nobody better was available, he didn't have anything to really needed to do. Of course, that might have been a bit better if he was in a room by himself, but nothing was perfect.

Solaris had his hair pulled back with a headband, to keep it off of his eye as he read. It was quiet in the room, perfect for pursuing his studies in medication- though he might not have gotten hands-on experience reading from a book, he still needed to know what herbs and such did before trying to use them. He had no desire to hurt someone he was trying to heal, nor heal somebody he was trying to hurt. Times that he could sit down and study were highly important, though perhaps not as frequent as he would've liked.

However, when he heard familiar a voice almost identical to his own though lower than he remembered due to the time that had passed, he immediately snapped the book shut with an necessary amount of force. What the Hell was Luna doing there? He was sure he had been so occupied with the Alliance and his girlfriend. He turned around to face his brother, legs swinging over the opposite side of the bed. The sight of a man almost identical to him in every way confirmed his suspicions. His older twin was in the 111th Battalion of the Legion of Stone's encampment.

"So it is. I wonder just whose fault that is. The fuck are you doing here?" There was an aggression in Solaris's voice that a majority of people would be unfamiliar with, years of frustration with his brother flooding forth. Luna had always had a tact for being one of the few people who could actually piss the normally docile Solaris off, but he theorized that that was just because the two of them were brothers. Being related made things like that considerably easier. And having been separated from the person he had never truly been separated from wasn't making anything better.

He put his book on the bed to stand up, eyes meeting the matching gaze of his Doppleganger. Luna looked like he had been traveling for days, a fact that elicited no surprise from Solaris. Aurhalz was a decent ways away from Dinne, and he couldn't imagine that wherever the Hell the battalion that Luna had been in was any closer. In that moment, he couldn't say that he was particularly concerned about how long his twin had been on the road. Older brother or no, Solaris was mad at Luna.

One hand reached out to snag Luna's shirt and jerk him closer, while the other curled into a fist and was swung toward his face.

Well, it certainly wasn't the reaction he had been expecting. Though in hindsight, perhaps he should have been.

"Good to see you, too," he started, a sense of hurt adding a sarcastic edge to his voice. But before anything else could be said Solaris was closing the gap between them.

It was so completely unexpected to see his typically unassuming brother acting with such aggression that Luna reacted late, pulling back to avoid the brunt of the punch but still getting clipped pretty heavily on the nose. His right hand instinctively flew to cover the wound and any potential bleeding while his free hand shoved at his twin to get him to let go, sending them both stumbling.

"Ouch...damnit Sol, that hurt."

He pulled his hand away. Yup. That was definitely blood. Just great. What in Naga's name had gotten into him? Was he really that rattled to see him? It was out of the blue...they had more or less lost all contact, after all. And even if Sol had written him more frequently over the past months, it wasn't as if Luna would have been any better at responding.

"What are you so worked up about?"

If anyone had a right to be angry, Luna felt that it should be him. It wasn't as if he had ever tried hiding where he stood. Solaris was the one who had turned his back on him...splitting their family in some inane attempt to do what, exactly? Prove a point? Write him out of his life? Luna had half a mind to swing back. But it was his brother, standing there glaring at him. The same flesh and blood that he himself was made of. The person he had shared countless meals with, countless moments. He was in obvious need of a role model. Luna had to show him how to keep his cool.

"Look, can't we just do this in the morning? I need sleep. And somewhere to do it. We could be bunk mates. Just like old times."
He flashed a grin because he was used to that being all he needed to get himself out of most situations. Though perhaps he had forgotten, dealing with your twin isn't exactly most situations.

Solaris stumbled backward when Luna shoved him, his legs hitting the bed behind him and causing him to fall onto his butt. He guessed he was thankful that he had a soft landing, but he didn't have time to think about little things like this. His anger toward Luna hadn't subsided, but he'd gotten his violent impulse out of his system, he supposed. No, that was a lie, he still felt like beating the absolute shit out of his twin, but he didn't want to make a scene. They weren't fifteen anymore, he couldn't just go acting on his first impulse around Luna anymore. He didn't feel bad for swinging at his brother in the slightest, but it would be best if he didn't do that again.

"I'd never guess that punching you would hurt," Solaris replied, his voice dry and sarcastic. He crossed his arms over his chest and looked up toward his brother's face. Well, it looked like he had hit him hard enough to draw blood. "Look down, and pinch below the bridge of your nose. If you look up, you risk inhaling your blood. I don't want to perform CPR because of something this simple. I don't think you want me to risk breaking your ribs, either," From his words, his concern for Luna's safety wasn't immediately apparent. Yes, he might have been mad and he still didn't regret the fact that he might have just broken his twin's nose, but he didn't want to cause any real harm to Luna. He could set a broken nose, he couldn't revive the dead. "If it's broken... I'll set it for you. I have a staff here somewhere, that should fix it. Can't have you walking around here injured."

Where did he put that staff? Wasn't it... Under the bed....? Or maybe... At the end of the bed...? He'd figure that out a bit later, it wasn't anything to worry about yet.

"Oh, you expected me not to be angry after you're gone for three years?" Solaris's words were bitter and venomous. Of course Luna didn't think that he'd be mad after he ran off to join an army because his fucking girlfriend wanted to be a soldier. "Maybe if you'd stuck around for a bit longer instead of leaving for the Alliance the moment opportunity presented itself, you'd fucking well understand!"

Luna didn't need to know the exact reason that Solaris decided to join the Legion. He was pretty sure that his reasoning for doing it was inconsequential, anyway.

He wiped his face on the back of his hand, which came back damp with tears. He'd never even noticed that he started crying. Should he have even been upset by Luna just leaving to do what he wanted? He wasn't sure. He knew he didn't want his twin to see him upset, but he generally didn't want people to know when he something upset him. They probably had better things to be concerned by than how he felt.

"...Eh?" Luna suggesting that they bunk together caught him by surprise. Was he suggesting that they share a bed, or just sleep in the same tent? "...I'm not sharing my bed with you. First off, they're not big enough for two of us... But there are empty beds in here."
