For anyone interested, character sheets below. Feel free to post ideas and questions here as well.

It's a bit light, so feel free to add anything I missed. For the Class section, be creative as you like, those are just examples and things less traditional like Inventor or Wayfarer or Hunter are welcome. Just go into detail if you can. I included some extra classes for flavor, feel free to fill in the blanks where applicable. For Races, be sure to check the LORE thread.

    [div class=tag2]Abilities:

Lei is a skilled swordsman, trained in the traditional fighting style of Yu-Long. She is an equal to most masters in a fair fight and uses swordfighting as her primary technique. She is also an accomplished archer and rider, rounding out her set of combat skills. In terms of magic, Lei originally followed the traditional style of the Celestial Tower, using pure chi manipulation to enhance her fighting through sharpening and reinforcing her weapons as well her armor. Since studying at Amataj, she has branched out into more creative elemental offensive magic and simple constructs, making her magical skillset more varied.

    [div class=tag2]Weaknesses:

Though unusually strong for one such as herself, that strength comes at a price- namely, a drain on her life force. She lacks caution when her emotions get the better of her, and is unfortunately easy to provoke. She is difficult to match with a blade but can become overwhelmed by superior numbers, as pure skill cannot always compensate for brute strength. Her ability with combat magic is also not great enough to compare to those whose main focus is casting and spells, as both their power and range will exceed her own. Her position as ambassador also requires her to be circumspect and discreet.[/div][/div][/div][div class="stab twotab"]

    [div class=tag2]Traits:

Lei is a rather intense person. She feels things very strongly, and that includes her zealous patriotism, her loyalty to her family, her country, and her government, as well as her desire for revenge. Not one to joke around or take things easy, she constantly pushes herself to be stronger and do better- to the exclusion of all else. Though she is extremely loyal, this also makes her uncaring towards anyone/anything not on her list, and she can be frustratingly close-minded.

    [div class=tag2]Ideals:

Lei believes in honor, duty and loyalty above all. She values and respects strength in others, which is why she strives to be strong herself, to carry out her duty with honor (see the pattern here? ). She is completely dedicated, persevering through any adversity, and will get back up no matter how many times she gets knocked down (though it's impressive to behold, it's less admirable than one would think since it's basically the reaction of a brainwashed robot that doesn't really think for themself or know any better). She is also capable of great empathy (not so much compassion), but only for certain people and situations.

    [div class=tag2]Flaws:[/div]
Though completely dedicated to what she believes in, she becomes cold, unfeeling and merciless towards those she doesn't care about or sees as enemies. She's over-zealous and absolutely indoctrinated, essentially built with blinders to any point of view but her own (ie, the one she's been given). Her emotions make her incapable of taking a step back to assess the situation, and she doesn't always take time to evaluate things and try to figure out the best possible resolution, often making things harder than they need to be or leading to outright failure on her part. Overall, she's not emotionally well-regulated.[/div][/div][/div][div class="stab threetab"]

Lei is now the eldest daughter and only heir of the Yongshi family- a prestigious lineage that dates back to one of the first emperors of the Yu-Long Dynasty. Her father, Heng-Gang, is an advisor to the current emperor and very important politician. Her mother, Shu-Zheng, though without a title of her own is extremely influential and accomplished in her own right. She's a powerful magic practitioner, and often counsels the emperor on strategy through various rites of divination. People come to her for advice from all across Yu-Long. Her eldest brother, Yong-Wu, was a captain in the imperial army, well-known for his honor and strategical acumen. Her second-eldest brother, Jie Xun, was a soldier in the army as well, famous for his daring and heroics.

Lei was raised in a grand house in the imperial district of Shenlong, near the emperor's palace. Her education was strict and varied, including language, history, and politics as well as music, etiquette and the ancient art of the tea ceremony. She was also trained in Yu-Long's traditional blend of martial arts and magic at the Celestial Tower, splitting her time between the school, her lessons at home, and time in the palace. She honored and respected her parents, as was expected of her, and admired her two brothers, whose reputation she wished to live up to herself some day. The part of her studies she excelled in most was martial skill and casting, and she began to focus more primarily on these, with the approval of her parents and under the tutelage of her brothers.

Eventually, her skill in magic outclassed most of the students at the Celestial Tower, and she was able to obtain permission to go study further at Amataj. Once there, she learned much- not just about magic, but about the world of Najud, its history, and its peoples. She came to understand more about the divides and various political tensions that currently undercut the world she lived in, and it made her worried and eager to return home to serve and protect her empire. Shortly before she was scheduled to return for the traditional yearly festival, Jie-Xun was injured in a skirmish at the Zhan-Li border over an illegal mining operation set up by colonists from the Vernes empire. When she returned home, Lei witnessed her brother hanging in limbo between life and death.

Before this, her feelings towards the Vernes empire were based off of those of her parents, her government and her people. But afterwards, they were driven more sharply by pain and anger and a desire for revenge than anything else. Lei returned to Amataj after the festival, not knowing if she would ever see her brother alive again, and a few weeks later news came that he had succumbed to his injuries. Lei channeled all of her rage and pain into her training, becoming far too powerful a warrior and caster for one as young as she. The djinn cautioned her against this use of raw power that was bound to have problematic consequences, but she refused to heed their words. Less than a year later, another blow came when she was told of the death of Yong-Wu in yet another conflict.

With the escalation of tensions over the jade reserves and Vernes colonization, the confrontation in which her eldest brother was killed was essentially a battle between two small armies from each empire. The government was making no effort to control or hold back the settlers and illegal miners, mostly because they profited from the jade imports this created, and all of Yu-Long agreed that they needed to be stopped. In response to the events, instead of continuing her education or returning home, Lei was sent to Vincenzo as an ambassador. Now the sole heir of the Yongshi name, it is her job to help represent her nation and government in the Vernes empire. Unofficially, however, her parents expect her to find those responsible for the death of her brothers, and do what duty and honor dictate.

BACKGROUND:

I totally forgot about lifespans, I'll make a quick edit in the LORE section on that. All the elves will live to around 750 years old, with various exceptions living far longer.

I like the idea of a historian that isn't necessarily good at fighting or survival. That's pretty interesting and far more effective without all the dice rolling.

-A frost elf who is leader of an assassin's guild in the Vernes Empire
-A human fighter/caster from the Yu-Long Dynasty, trained in Amataj

These both sound really good.

NAME: Zorya Neith

RACE: Frost Elf
maxresdefault (2).jpg
a07ab252f3ed615f62f47c36d37206b0.jpg

AGE: 26

ALIGNMENT: not sure so I'll go with neutral for now.

CLASS: Sorcerer/Rogue (Alchemist)

PERSONALITY TRAITS: A little rough around the edges, curious, kind, empathetic but fierce, somewhat rebellious and very intelligent. She can be very sarcastic but will be very blunt and or cold if she needs to be.

IDEALS: She's not entirely sure right now, but would like to see the world to understand it better. She's almost certain the Frost Elf way of life isn't all there is to it.

FLAWS: She is talented and strong, but she was raised to rely on herself, therefore, she doesn't ask for help, it quite honestly never occurs to her and therefore doesn't really see the value in teamwork as she believes if anyone else but her takes care of something they'll just mess it up or slow her down so she usually tries to make things work on her own. She also has issues staying quiet when she's angry or doing nothing when she feels something is wrong and because of this, you would be hard-pressed to make her let something go or swallow her pride.

SKILLS & ABILITIES: She is very good at hunting, tracking and close combat, she is also very good when it comes to stealth and getting around via acrobatics or parkour. She is also skilled in magic though it's usually used as supplemental in conjunction with her skills, used tactfully rather than as a force to overwhelm. She is also pretty good at crafting and alchemy though her crafting usually boils down to weapons and traps and her alchemy to medical means such as health and antidotes resistance potions or ammo.

BACKGROUND: From a young age Zorya was trained to be a warrior and a hunter to be an asset to her people. She was taught that hunting requires perfection and one who cannot rely on themselves is of no use to others, unfortunately, this lead her to believe that she must do everything herself but she also began to wonder more about the world beyond her icy homeland and instead of taking a position as an assassin or hunter when she came of age, instead requested the right to abroad and see for herself before she decided what she wanted. This of course greatly disappointed the majority of her family who had expected her to stay and take a position, all except her father who fully supported this decision.

NAME: Aruna Alectrona

RACE: Dune Elf
daeho-cha-.jpg
c9b0fed8ba2e8c5494fa06b6ed6ac743--character-concept-art-character-design.jpg

AGE: 106

ALIGNMENT: Chaotic Good

CLASS: Bard/Cleric (Alchemist)

PERSONALITY TRAITS: She's playful, friendly, a bit flirtatious, clever, witty, charming and very confident curious.

IDEALS: She simply likes learning new things, but also believes no one should benefit from the suffering of others.

FLAWS: She does what she wants when she wants to do it and doesn't care what people think of it, so she tends to rub some people the wrong way sometimes and can be completely unapologetic about it. She can give some people the wrong idea when she's being playful or flirty, making it hard to tell at times if she is truly interested in you or is she is just playing with you. She can also come off as condescending this if of course mostly unintentional but it still happens sometimes.

SKILLS & ABILITIES: She's very smart good with alchemy and firearms that she mixes with her bard and cleric like abilities. She's also a very talented danced which she uses for unpredictable yet fluid combat.

BACKGROUND: Aruna didn't always have a very charmed life, easier in her life she was actually very poor and made money by singing and dancing on the streets. As a very attractive Dune Elf, it wasn't hard for her to gain attention and accumulate money when she could, but sometimes the experience would be very unpleasant. She eventually got a job working for an alchemist, his work interested her greatly and eventually, he took her on as a student as well as teaching her how to use firearms since her at the time magical ability was more useful for support than anything else.

I just saw the edits on these. So are they a pair? That's interesting if not a little hard to RP. Maybe play the Dune Elf and have the other pop in to help out or talk now and then like a genie in a bottle?

Thats the idea. He's meant to be in a bottle. If required. He can perform magic for Selim.

Sage doesn't require purpose. He's happy staying with Selim as he Selim doesn't start getting boring and he keeps him alive. He stays with Selim to try and be a kingmaker.

Cool.

So at this point we're just waiting on other people's characters, but I got the first post ready and the story set. Just want to give people time to braintstorm and ask questions so their characters are set.

Second character, updated!

I actually like this second dune elf character a lot more than the first one. Her personality is a lot clearer and I get a great sense of her from the get go. Like she could easily be a sultan's former harem girl who broke out of that life and went to try and make a name for herself.

Thank you. I'll admit I kind of based the first one off of Aloy from Horizon Zero Dawn with some other elements sprinkled in but still, she's more of a reveal and learn of the course of time kind of character.

Two dune elves so far, I'm curious to see what else others come up with, and I'll tweak and add upon the first post in the meantime.

I see these are getting close to done.

They're literally perfect, I can't find a single issue with these backgrounds, they're so well thought that they're actually giving me ideas.

Only one small thing, the main frost elf city is called Frosthaven not Frostborne. My fault though, it's a little confusing I'll fix it in the lore section.

I thought the lore said their land was Frostborne and their city was Frosthaven? :/

No, their land is Rhelgoth, city is Frosthaven, Frostborne was just a flavor word for their race as a whole. My bad. :closedeyescryingfrown:
I could've sworn the title of the section for their land was Frostborne :/
EDIT: Not sure where I got confused, but at any rate I corrected the bio. Rhelgoth is cooler anyway ;P

EDIT: due to a change of heart, I will not be playing this character.

Sorry for lateness

Maybe just needs a couple details here and there but the character is clear. I still have to draw a male na'ka, that's coming soon.

Breaking bad guys though, I like that. :D

NAME: Prow Sool
RACE: Na'ka
AGE: 126
ALIGNMENT: Chaotic Evil

PERSONALITY TRAITS: Is bereft of empathy for other beings, greedy and deceiving. Quick to use violence to achieve goals.

IDEALS: Prow Sool is under the influence of Marapran Chois, a powerful Jinn sorcerer and serves her.

SKILLS & ABILITIES: Exceptional strength, even for a Na'ka. Endowed with above average intelligence and magic resistance because of Marapran's interference.

FLAWS: Slowly losing his free-will, stunting his potential. Overconfident, leading to a tendency to underestimate opposition.

BACKGROUND: Prow was corrupted by the Jinn sorcerer Marapran twelve years ago but has only recently come out of hiding, building his strength. In his past life, he was chieftain of a minor tribe. Days before Prow was last seen by his former tribe, a terrible monster from the seas surrounding the Ysriyan Islands had laid waste to coastal villages and had slaughtered many Na'ka hunters, including his eldest son, who had tried to slay the creature. Prow swore he would avenge his son and on that day, he left his village and vowed to never return until he had killed the monster. As the sun went down, he finally encountered it. It was the most grotesque thing he had ever seen; it had the body of a sperm whale but its head was a mass of tentacles and its stomach was a gaping maw of teeth. His tribesmen had gathered atop a cliff to watch their chief fight the beast.

Prow fought against it, but he was easily defeated. Before he could be killed, he was struck with a bolt of lightning and he disappeared. Prow himself claims he woke in a cave in the deserts of Al-Hadin, where a 'dune elf hermit' nursed him back to health. Unknown to him, the stranger was the Jinn sorceress Marapran Chois. He returned to his island, where he learned he had been gone for nearly thirty years. He discovered that the chieftain of his former tribe was his old rival, Monda Swot, and that he was with his wife. Prow remained in the village for one year and his hatred of Monda grew daily, but he allowed his anger to simmer beneath a surface of indifference. His failure to kill the creature all those years ago came back to haunt him as he was accused of running away like a coward and he was treated as a pariah.

This is one of those characters I'm more interested to see in action that hear about. It's unique to say the least.

Why do I get the feeling he may become a villain...
