Exalted III: Poorly-Named Game

I'm not really sure what I'm going to have as my Supernal ability. I originally took Lore for Heaven Turning Calculations to buff my Sorcery, but in retrospect I could have gotten better results with Ancient Tongue Understanding and Supernal Control Method.

I feel part of the problem is that a lot of the charms that you Supernal an ability for tend to be big and flashy, but not practical the majority of the time. I really only want maybe 5-7 charms from any given ability, and only a small portion of those charms are higher than Essence 2.

I'm thinking about going for Supernal Bureaucracy and angling for a personal arc of engineering a form of government on the island. Aside from whatever goals we have as a group, of course.

Yeah, I took Supernal Stealth because it was basically that or Larceny and I didn't need that much disguise stuff, but what I really wanted was the stealth-attack stuff in Thrown.

Nobody would be highly interested in building a government, so long as they get a say in how it's formed. While stroking a villainous mustache, glued onto their mask.

Supernals are really only important for specialists. If you're not planning to go deep into any ability, you don't need to care much about yours.

A government-building plotline sounds like fun to me.

Both look good, except Brightest Morning Star doesn't have enough Attribute dots. And I guess he could end up pretty similar to JayTee's character, depending. Might be better to go with Nobody.

I'm guessing Nobody has a contract with Mara? How'd she Exalt?

Whoops, I forgot that I switched him from Physical to Social tertiary.

Tollens exalted upon stealing and revealing the Dynast's sorcerous secrets, which were heavily guarded. Mara came to them in their nightmares that night, as they dreamed of what they had seen.

Here's an outline of my Sorcerer, modified to fit in this game. I absolutely love the idea of a nation building game with this character, so I've set aside a spell specifically for it. Silent Words of Dream and Nightmares, or Corrupted Word, depending on what the party things would be more useful.

@Sanctaphrax: Would you allow me to use my merit points to buy Supernatural Merits from other NPCs, or Control Spell effects to represent Sorcerous Workings I've done on myself?

Name: Crystal Mind Kyros

Age: Mid to late 30s

Gender: Male

Caste: Twilight

Appearance

Backstory

-Served the Sorcerer, Zala, for much of his youth. Began studying under him when he came of age.

-Eventually decided that Zala was unworthy of his power, only using it to acquire more secrets instead of being proactive with it.

-During a ritual that was intended to enhance his master's sorcerous abilities, Kyros sabotaged the working so that he would receive the power.

-The ritual was a success, and Kyros was Exalted for his cunning.

-Zala, realizing that Kyros had stolen what was supposed to be his, attacked him.

-Kyros Fled, began investigating what happened to him via summoned demons. Learned he was Chosen.

-Was forced to subdue assassins sent by his former master.

-Realized he needed a place he could regroup and fortify his position against further attacks before the Wyld Hunt got involved. Decided to get lost in the west and attempt to establish a powerbase.

Looking again...what's that Darkness Ritual spell meant to be?

Sure, we can probably work something out. What are you looking to get?

You seem to be missing specialties. Also, even if you don't have any Essence 2 Charms yet you should pick a Supernal.

Other than that, looks good.

PS: I haven't been checking BP math. I hope you're all doing it right...

After doing a double check I decided against Merits for powers. Added conventional Mertis and specialties, but I'll still have to think on Supernal.

99.9% done!

It's Mara's shaping ritual where you get motes for being in darkness, I just put it under sorcery for convenience.

JayTee, if you're going for a punchy wizard, I actually wrote the skeleton for an Artifact awhile ago:

The LEFT HAND OF POWER is one of the reasons people fear sorcerers. It was originally an orichalcum gauntlet, but a botched spell left it warped and tainted with vitriolic streaks and patches where orichalcum has turned to brass. Once attuned, the smashfist will slowly twist and with the wielder’s hand, until it cannot be removed.

MIGHT BY RIGHT can convert Initiative into sorcerous motes, but only for spells which are spectacular and violent.

TRANSCENDENT VIOLENCE GESTURE unleashes waves of viridian Essence, allowing her to extend her attacks out to short range.

WORLD-SHATTERING FORCES allows the wielder to violently distort spells, even her own, by destroying them in an explosion of sorcerous power.

Naw, he's not a punch wizard so much as it's apart of a trap. Kyros plays the part of the squishy, mortal sorcerer to lull people in to a false sense of security.

What they don't know is that the spells and summons are a ruse, and anyone expecting an easy kill once they make it past the minions and firebombs is going to have a bad day. ;]

@Heedra @Flimflamberge any progress on your characters?

@JayTee what's the story of your manse? I assume it's on or near the island, but what kind of manse is it and how did you get it?

Also, your Resistance score seems to be missing.

@ElIis I'm assuming you'll use Nobody. So how'd you get your influence and your artifact?

Presumably your influence is on the island, but there's not a great espionage community on frontier. Also I was thinking of starting the game with the arrival of the PCs, but that could easily change.

As for the artifact, what exactly is a farblade? And do you have any Evocations in mind for it?

I can switch that Influence over to criminals, if it makes more sense, and might also switch Lore for Bureaucracy if we're building a government.

A farblade is.... not canon, apparently. Oops. An artifact knife, light weapon with Lethal, Melee, Thrown (short) tags. If you rule that its having some sort of infinite capability like the infinite chakram, that would save me a charm slot for Call the Blade too. As far as Evocations, I'm playing with some ideas based on the Hand of Glory and/or sorcerous sacrifice, but nothing concrete yet.

Fixed the Resistance stat. Not sure what the story is with the Manse. I took it because it added extra Means for Sorcerous Workings, as none of the hearthstones really appeal to me.

I suppose the fast and dirty (and lazy) justification for it is that, while searching for a place to call his own, he consulted his summoned demons, and one of them happened to know of a Manse that another sorcerer had.

Demesne gives the same Means bonus and doesn't involve a hearthstone. Might require less justification, too.

Either way, you're not going to get much use out of it if it's not on or near the island. And you need to define its nature to know which Workings it's good for.

Sure, we can say it returns to your hand. Comparing it to the infinite chakram, you're basically trading a band of range for the option to use it with Melee.

So where'd you get the artifact and the influence?

Naw, I'm coming around to the idea of having a wizard's Sorcerer's tower. Plus it would make an excellent starting base for our nation building game. Would you allow me to port over the Scrying Stone from 2.5e? It feels thematically appropriate.

How's this?

The Seven Spires Pagoda is a Solar Manse dating back to the First age. Once a tower of the Sorcerer Kemek, it was built to act as a bridge between the Terrestrial and the Celestial powers. Once a place of mediation and philosophy, it became overgrown and dangerous as the ages past. The forests and trees, once patterned in artful decor, have almost completely engulfed the Pagoda with wild overgrowth.

Some who live in the newly established harbor town at the base of the tower have made efforts to claim the tower for themselves, but none have succeeded. The spirits once bound to the Pagoda to serve their Exalted masters as attendants had gone feral, attacking anyone who approaches.

Kyros reclaimed the tower through blood and sweat, conjuring his own demons over the course of weeks to hunt down the rouge spirits. The battle took two days and nights, filling the forests with the sounds of supernatural bloodshed and flashes of spell-fire, throughly terrifying the inhabitants of the harbor town.

In the end, Kyros was left with only a handful of his original demonic army, but the Pagoda was his. He is now in the process of refortifying it against further trespass from uninvited guests.

You might want to change the bit about the harbour town, since this island doesn't have much of an established civilization and the people there are likely to try claiming the tower themselves. So they wouldn't be trying to keep people away.

Otherwise looks good.

So, any news on the progress of the game? I'd hate for it to die before it even got off the ground.

I was waiting on Heedra, but it turns out she won't be playing either. She had second thoughts about the PbP format.

You guys good with a two-PC game?

Huh, that's a shame. I was looking forward to gaming with a whole crew of people I'd never RPed with before.

I'm definitely good for a two person game, though.
