Assume it is now 5:00pm in the RP, still day 1. Also, they get food from the cafeteria building, which is connected by a bridge like the one between the academic building and the dorms. The main cafeteria is open till 8pm, then the mini food shops open till 12pm, and finally the small general store within the building open 24/7.
