Episode 2: The Wolf of New York

"I do not care, you do not know what the fuck you are getting yourself into. Even if we were to let you listen and follow us, you would have no purpose, you would be useless. The police and Jim are looking after you, they do not want you getting involved. Now go away!" Anastasiya was trying really hard not to get too cold and vicious with Sunni as she knew in her heart what she was going through, from a personal level. Yet she remained as cold as ever and was relentless and stubborn in it's chill.

Eddie waited until the kid had left before turning back to the Russian woman. He could tell she was a bit frustrated by the child. "Alright. Let's have that talk." He led the way to a side alley nearby and leaned against the wall. "I got a good lead on the Mangler back there in the mall. This is like something I've never dealt with. I realize that. I also realize that I'm gonna need help taking him down. I'm not stupid. But, there is one thing you should know. If we work on this together. It won't be a partnership. I ride solo for a reason. Partners are extra baggage no needs. So, we'll cooperate for the sake of getting things done." Eddie's eyes became emotionless when he began to talk about partners being "extra baggage" and his expression saddened for a single moment before he turned cold. "If you get that. You got my help."

Lavernius observed the young woman with a smirk and looked at Mark for a few moments, a grin plastered on his face. "So.. who was that..?" He asked innocently. "Your girlfriend?" LA was here to find things out, but he couldn't just pass on this development.

Mark blushed before laughing.  "Her?  Oh she's just the new traffic cop.  Her name is Maggie..."  Detective Hamilton kept walking.  "Do you want some coffee or donuts?  I;m not sure what you can get by coming here but you're free to ask anything if you think it could help you.  Of course I will restrain myself from blurting out confidential information, but I'm here if you need me..."

Mark led LA to the Police Station.  "Alright here we are,"  he told LA.  A young woman wearing a police uniform approached Mark.  "H-Hi Detective Hamilton!"  She blushed.  "I-Is the chief feeling better?"  She asked Mark.  "Yeah, he looks like he's doing better, he should be out by the end of this week!"  Mark told the young woman.  The woman sighed in relief and smiled awkwardly at Mark before running off.  Mark turned to face LA.  "My office is back there if you need me... if you need anything else, you know who to call..."  Mark smiled.

Sunni was sitting there quietly, until she started to feel a little anxious. Everyone's voices were loud, yet Sunni swore she could hear claws scraping, and the inhumane voice that said, "You can't hide forever..." She didn't dare look around for that voice.  The girl shivered. She immediately took her phone out and dialed Mr. Hamilton as quickly as she could. This place wasn't safe. She wasn't safe. She could die. She was going to die. The minute the other person picked up, Sunni squeaked: "M-Mister Hamilton? C-C-Can I get a ride to the p-police station please?"

Mark parked and called Sunni.  "Hey I'm at the parking lot, come on..."

Each second made Sunni more paranoid. When did she get so anxious? She was fine walking down the street alone yesterday. Sunni got a call. Mr. Hamilton had got to the parking lot.

"Okay," she said and hung up.

The girl rushed out the mall to find Mr. Hamilton's blue Honda. She immediately pulled her mouth into a grin and skipped over.

The Detective waited for Sunni to get inside the car. "Put on your seatbelt..."  He said as he started his car.  "Did you find everything you were looking for?"  Mark asked Sunni.  "By the way, have you thought about where you are going to stay tonight?"  Mark asked her.

Sunni buckled her seat belt, slightly annoyed that the man wanted to remind her. She'd been told to buckle her seat belt since she was around 7. Mr. Hamilton had asked she found everything she was looking for.

"Yup!" Sunni said cheerfully.

Of course she really didn't fine what she was looking for, but saying that would produce questions. Questions were annoying. Mr. Hamilton then asked if she knew where was going to stay for the night. Her own home and Mr. Iron's apartment were out of the question. Mr. Nobuyuki probably didn't want to deal with her for another night.

"No." Sunni admitted.

She should better start considering.

Anastasiya nodded in agreement as they began to now go to a private area to talk. She listened carefully as she heard him speak. "Mhm, I see. And it truly was something I never expected to deal with either, but luckily I seemed to have had weakened him. We both have the common goal of eliminating the Mangler for all the heinous crimes he has committed, if you don't want it to work that way then so be it, but you shouldn't be walking into this blindly. I have been able to gain a whole understanding of info as to how he operates, and his reasons etc." She happened to notice him grow sad at that one point after talking about partnership, which she assumed had to do with his past, which she was not going to touch. She then continued "Which I would, assume you would like in on the info as well correct? If anything, our agreement to work together can simply be on an information gathering basis. Inform each other on updates and whatnot, unless you had planned for this to work differently?"

Mark scratched the back of his head as when she said she didn't know where to stay.  "Well I live with my mother and sister so I don't think you can stay with us... maybe you should try calling homeless shelters or government programs to help you.  I'm not really sure how to help you... I've never been in that situation before... must be tough..."  Mark said as he pulled over in front of the station.  "Alright, here we are..."  Mark said as he headed over to his office.  "Just call me if you need me,"

Bonnie and Clyde

"C-Clyde he's bleeding out!"  Bonnie said as the pair carried the man towards their restaurant.  "Aww geez..."  Clyde said as he looked at the trail of blood behind them.  The pair opened the door of their restaurant and turned on the lights.  "Is he in trouble?  Are people after him?"  Bonnie asked as they slumped the man down on a booth.  "No idea, darlin'"  Clyde said as he pointed an electric fan at the man.  He placed a bag of chips on the table and a glass of water.  They all looked at the unconscious man.  "I-Is he dead?"  Bonnie whispered.  "Hmmm..."  Clyde moved a finger to the man's neck and checked for a pulse.  The man's eyes suddenly opened.  His mouth opened wide and he let out a feral scream.

Clyde pulled his hand back and shielded Bonnie.

AYYYYYAAAAAAAHHAHAHAAAAAAAYYYYYYIIIIIII!!!!

The man screamed!

"Yea," Sunni nodded absentmindedly.

Why was she homeless again? Ah, her parents died. And her home was a crime scene being investigated. While Sunni tried to shake the image of her parent's ripped up bodies from her head, she could still see it in her mind clearly. It bothered her. Disturbed her. Made her sick. Sunni sighed. It was all that stupid card's fault, too. She didn't want to lose it, of course, but she hated it. Thinking of the card made her think of the Mangler. And thinking of the Mangler was something Sunni didn't want to do. Mr. Hamilton kept speaking, and frankly he seemed to speak a bit too much. The car pulled over in front of the station. Sunni hopped out and went in. She knew Mr. LA was going to be here. Sunni would've yelled his name out loudly, but she didn't feel like it. So she just wandered.

Jennifer finally made it to the third floor, after a rather long and exhausting trek up three flights of stairs. "There's no way...that I'm so out of shape...that I can't go up three flights of stairs without getting tired...Either way...not doing that again..." She mutters to herself. "Now let's see. What room was it that he was in again?... Oh, right, room 524. I guess I should just walk in? Or should I knock first? Meh. I'm just gonna walk in, even if that's a bit rude." She says to herself, walking to room 524. "Welp. 3...2...1...go!" She mutters before flinging the door open and rushing into room 524. "Hello there, would you happen to be Jim Gordon?"

Lavernius planned to get more info out of Mark before he suddenly left. Afterwards, he was left in an awkward situation as officers he had previously run into gave him the stink eye. LA scratched the back of his head and sighed. It would be a long wait. A few minutes later, a familiar teen walked in. "Oh! It's Sunni!" Lavernius said walking toward her. "Whatcha doing here, kid?"

Mr. LA recognized her! That was good.

"Ms. Ana didn't let me join her." Sunni said grumpily.

Of course she was far more than grumpy, but she didn't like displaying too much negative emotion. She looked up at the man with a bright smile.

"So I'm going to go with you!!!"

Jim seems to be fast asleep.  His breathing was steady.  When the girl barged in, all he did was turn over and face the other way.

"...Oh...Well crap..." Jennifer mutters to herself. "What am I supposed to do if he's sleeping? I can't just wake the guy up... I'll just have to wait here until he wakes up." She mumbles, sitting against the wall. "Hmm...I ought to do something in case someone walks in here while I'm waiting...oh, I know!" She says to herself, deciding to go invisible while she waited. "Κρύβω" She whispers to herself. A quick check confirmed that she'd gone invisible. She just sat there, waiting silently. If he didn't wake up within about half an hour, she'd probably try to wake him up herself.

Jim opened one eye.  "Why do you have to be so creepy..."  He moaned under his breath looking straight at floating scales above someone that was obviously invisible.  "I was wondering who you were, but now that I see you can turn yourself invisible, you're here for my card right?"  Jim said lazily as he estimated where the person's eyes were based on the position of the scales.  The scales didn't seem too skewed... average.  The person hasn't committed any serious moral injustices as far as he could see.  "Well?"  Jim sat up.

Lavernius couldn't disagree with Ana's decision. She was probably off somewhere doing something dangerous. The thought of that made him envious. Danger meant thrills and thrills were his business. "Well we aren't going anywhere just yet. I'm here to find out about the Mangler, then we can go get him."

"Okay," she said happily.

Sunni thought for a moment. She remembered hearing something about the creature being in the mall, and that the creature was a homeless man who was missing an arm.

"He's a homeless man who's missing an arm, I think," Sunni told Mr. LA. "They gave cards to eeeeeveryone!"

The girl grinned.

"So now we can go get him, right?" Sunni asked.

Lavernius raised an eyebrow at her enthusiasm. "Uh.. no? We're gonna get information." He turned to Mark. "What have you guys got on the Mangler? I need to know everything you guys know."

Lavernius raised an eyebrow at her enthusiasm. "Uh.. no? We're gonna get information." He turned to Mark. "What have you guys got on the Mangler? I need to know everything you guys know."

Mark was looking at the pinboard with all the victim's names and photographs.  "Huh?  Oh..."  He said looking at LA.  "Look here, these are the names and faces of the people we think were killed by the mangler:

"The first victim's name is Mary Scarlet, age 28, recent college graduate... interning as a graphic designer at a magazine, estimated time of death is September 20, 2016 8:30PM... body found mangled in her apartment. "

The photo shows a beautiful blonde woman with a cheerful smile.

"Second victim is Margaret Ross, age 30, coffee shop barista... starbucks.  ETD: September 31, 2016  7:20PM... body found behind the Starbucks,"

The photo showed a younger-looking woman with dyed blonde hair.

"This is where things deviate.  Third victim's name is Samuel Lee, age 45, works as a plumber.  ETD October 15, 2016 7:30PM... body found in his truck."

The photo shows a middle aged asian man with a grim expression.

"The next one is another male... Joe Matches.  Age 30.  Suspected drug trafficker and suspected member of the Devils gang.  Recently got out of prison, ETD October 19, 2016 7:35PM...  Body found face-down on a river,"

Photo shows a rugged white man with a fire tattoo on his head.

"Back to females.  Leona Baragar... Age 24.  Unemployed, lives with parents.  ETD October 20, 2016 7:50PM... Body found in an elevator in a public building,"

Photo shows a blonde, spunky young girl with green eyes.

"Next is Andrew Robertson... Age 60.  Retired marine.  ETD October 25, 2016 8:00PM... Body found at his home,"

Photo shows an old African american man.

"Next victim is Jacob Smith... Age 25.  Intern.  ETD November 14, 2016 11:00 PM... Body found in a dark alley"

Shows a picture of a young man.

"The latest victims are..."  Mark placed the photos of Sunni's parents on the wall.  "ETD November 28, 2016 8:00PM"

"Almost none of the victims have anything in common... just the killing methods and the approximate times seem similar..."  Mark explained.

Lavernius tried to piece together the information. "So what we know is that the killings tend to happen in late afternoon to night. The victim's were commonly in secluded places with no one around. Were you guys able to find anything on any cameras that might have been at these locations? Say Starbucks or the apartment building? The spacing between kills is interesting as well. The person has a card. But, maybe they can't fully control it? Or it somehow compels them to kill?" LA was just pitching things, but the possibilities were make his blood boil in anticipation.

Sunni stared at the picture of her parents. Ah, so it was the Mangler that killed them. She tried to not focus to much on the picture... Remembering them was painful.

I want that thing to feel the same pain.

The girl stayed smiling and cheerful. She listened to Mr. LA try to figure it out. She herself had no idea whatsover what to think. Weren't they supposed to be finding the Mangler, not figuring out whatever they were figuring out? Nevertheless, Sunni patiently waited since she knew she couldn't contribute much.

Anastasiya nodded, she did have a lot of info that would help him, and any info that would lead to eliminating the Mangler once and for all was a cause she would definitely help. "Yes I do, but I must know, do you have a black card?" To the second part, she actually already began walking. "Already on that, we should actually check to see where it's blood trail went, also my name is Anastasiya Razuvayeva, but I also known as the vigilante 'Nemesis'. It is nice to meet you Eddie" That's when she happened to hear a whisper again, and as she heard it, it sounded familiar... After a bit she finally put a voice to a face, it was Sunni... The path was faint and hard to track, and she also didn't want to abandon Eddie, so she reluctantly decided to stay with Eddie and inform him of the situation.
