Realistic or Modern Empset [Yoki][Quark]

7:50pm, Faerhythm Avenue:

Near the entrance of the alley facing the avenue, a boy with a dark jacket was standing by. Once again, Eli flipped open his phone to check the time, to find that there were still minutes to spare. The boy looked left and right, just as a taxi drove past him. While he was a little nervous, he didn't show much restlessness as his hands were in his pocket.

"A different type of errand?" Eli had said when Noir had returned to his new home about two days ago. The middle-aged man with black hair merely nodded, before sitting on the chair in the room.

"Well, you've been here for about a week. I'm sure you're probably ready to help the family."

If only the "family" chores was like washing dishes or cleaning the yard. Noir handed him a piece of paper, and explained to him about needing to retrieve a package from a warehouse by the coast. The address wasn't familiar to him, nor could he guess what the package was specifically. There was probably a reason why he wasn't, not when the rumoured organization Tarot was involved.

"Also," Noir continued,"You won't be doing it alone, another new kid in the family will meet you. So rest assured."

Rest assured, Noir had reassured. So here he was, at the designated meeting location that he said. Something cold fell on his cheek and he looked up for a moment. It seemed there was a light rain. He zipped up his jacket, then slung a bag over his shoulder. There weren't too many people, since some were in restaurants and others were going home, hopefully he wouldn't miss his partner.

"I dunno what you class as family, but this definitely ain't it."

"Are you complaining?"

"Nah. Traditions overrated anyway, right?"

"I like this kid."

---

Now, sure, Angelo hadn't had your typical upbringing, but this weird world he'd been dragged into less than a week ago... It was completely different from anything he'd ever experienced in his life. The people were weird for a start, but they didn't bug him unless they needed him or were gonna teach him something so he had no complaints.

He'd spent a lot of time studying a man named Rover, his gestures were weird, too forced. It was interesting to try and annoy people like that. He'd earned a few laughs, almost got in to a fight, gained some people's respect, pissed off others. All in a week. Imagine if he had a whole year...

Of course whilst he'd love it to be all fun and games, he knew it couldn't be. They'd taken him out of that shithole for some reason or another, and he was expected to play their game, whether he felt like it or not. That was how these things worked, right?

So there he was, hood up, headphones in, one hand in the pocket of his jeans, walking towards the place he was meant to meet another kid who apparently also recently joined 'the family's' ranks. Whoever they were, they better be ready to wreck someone's shit, because Angelo sure was.

Up ahead he saw the figure of a boy who looked to be around his own age, just...standing there. Hm, drab clothes. That had to be him right? That was the meeting place, so most likely.

"What'cha waitin' for?" Coming up behind the male, Angelo grinned, "The apocalypse?" After speaking he blew a large bubble using the blue bubblegum he happened to be chewing, the bubble popped at an impressive size and he started chewing again, looking towards the boy he'd just addressed.

Hearing footsteps, Eli noticed there was someone coming by. He only gave a brief glance, not wanting to be caught staring awkwardly. However, unlike the other passerbys, this one had walked up to him. Under the night street lamps, the face from under the dark purple bangs was a rather young face. About his age.

The first question seemed to be his cue. They knew that he was waiting. But it was always good to check, just in case. "Aha, not yet, I'm afraid," Eli answered back to the boy's joke. He gave a slight grin. "I'm Aether," as he was speaking, he took out a card from his pocket. It showed the Tarot card "Page of Swords". Noir had told him nothing about how to verify, other than his partners Tarot and name. He honestly wished that he had properly found the courage to ask someone else.

He held it out just enough for the bubble-chewing gum boy to see, while internally hoping that he hadn't made the mistake.

"Hm. What?" As the other male addressed him, Angelo put both of his hands in his pockets and half-listened to the individual, half focused on their surroundings. "Aether, huh." He raised an eyebrow, staring at the card in the boy's hand, well...at least he knew it was definitely him. Who else would have a card like that? "Ain't that a term from some Greek book or somethin'?" He grunted, spitting his chewing gum out onto his hand and sticking it to the wall opposite them, "Sick."

After a moment of simply staring at the other, he pulled out his own card; holding the eight of wands precariously between two fingers. "Gunner. Nice t'meet ya...I suppose." Lowering his hand and slipping his card back into his pocket, he grinned, "So," The boy started, obviously raring to go, "You down to fuck some shit up or what?" He didn't mess around, they were out here to do a job and honestly he just wanted to try the prototype explosives he'd been playing around with. It'd be fun to watch someone go boom.

Eli's grin grew a bit wider seeing the "Eight of Wands" taken out by the boy opposite. "Nah, just a fancy word for magic air." Eli laughed before nodding to acknowledge Gunner's name. "Yeah, nice to meet you." He said, as he pointed for the two to perhaps start walking. Now that they've found each other there wasn't any point to lotter there anymore.

Gunner's next words seemed like the start of small talk. Well, maybe small talk for for the "family". This would definitely take some time to get used to. "Of course," he replied, assuming that Gunner had meant whether he was ready to tackle on their job. "Though it's my first time... on something like this but I've been told that we should be fine."

They were reaching towards the corner of the street, towards the entrance of the subway. At this, he tilted his head towards it. Though he was sure that his partner already knew that they would need to take the subway. "Oh yeah, have you been to the district before? I've checked where the warehouse is, but... if we have to take these," he gestured to the bag over his shoulder, containing his weapon, "there's probably some rather shady people there?"

"Magic air. Huh. Should do my research." Angelo shrugged, proceeding to follow after the other boy. At least this guy didn't seem too serious, maybe he didn't exactly trust that he knew how to handle these situations, they'd just met, but...if the family wanted him too then there had to be something about him.

The agreement on fucking someone's shit up was enough to make the boy grin again however, he was down, nice. "Yeah," Nodding and looking around casually, Angelo continued on down the street, "Mine too, I mean, technically. But whatever, it's simple shit, get in, get out. Job done." He really wasn't worried and every part of his person clearly displayed that. What was the worst that could happen? Death? Ha!

"Oi. If it ain't clicked yet, we're the shady people here." With a chuckle, Angelo pivoted on the ball of his left foot and headed into the subway station, "Hurry up then, wouldn't wanna keep 'em waitin' right?"

---

The subway trip was simple, Angelo knew where he was going, mainly because it had been explained to him before he left, but...he knew how to get there at least. It hadn't taken as long as he'd expected it to, good thing, he was an impatient person, and the two were close to the warehouse easily within an hour. Now they just had to make sure they got what they wanted and got back out without losing it.

"C'mon then loser." Nudging the individual next to him, Angelo started to make his way towards the large, rusted building, "I'm getting antsy."

Gunner seemed more and more accustomed to this by the second as they were talking. Eli blinked a little as his words were dawning on. "Oh, I guess so," he replied somewhat awkwardly before picking up his pace towards the station.

...
...

The trip in the subway carriage was rather quiet. Eli wasn't getting nervous as before now that there's someone with him. Though without a mirror he wasn't sure if he was keeping a straight-face. To say he felt like he was lying about stealing food from the kitchen, was an understatement.

"Coming!" The boy said, quickly glancing left and right. Around the warehouse there was just a load of cargo carts stacked on top of another. There was hardly any light around them and as they entered, it was even darker. Just faintly from the moonlight seeping through the windows, he could see the dim gleam of factory weapons. "This is a factor for making shoes... wasn't it," he muttered to himself as he walked further in with Gunner. He decided not to comment on how it seemed a bit too similar to a teenage horror story where the main characters venture to some abandoned place.

Remembering Noir's instructions, he pointed towards the sign that directed towards the manager office. "Think it's this way." he said. Up ahead he could see the light from underneath the door. Eli walked up to the door and gave a light knock. The warehouse was completely silent enough for it to be heard, and he pushed the door open.

The first thing Eli saw wasn't the package, but a man with blood on his face, collapsed on the desk. A few other bodies were also on the floor. He took a step back with wide eyes. "Wai - wha?" He exclaimed, his hand already reaching for his bag.

"Hm." Angelo had shrugged with Aether drew attention to the weapons left in the factor, shoe factory maybe...possibly re-purposed by someone or other. It didn't matter anyway, they were only meant to get to the manager's office. Once they had what they wanted then they could go look at the pretty weapons. Angelo couldn't say he wasn't tempted into becoming sidetracked straight away however.

Following Aether's direction, the two walked towards the managers office, Angelo staying a step behind the entire way. He kept looking around, waiting to hear or see something that wasn't meant to be there. It was like the game he played as a child, look into the dark spaces for long enough and maybe something creepy will appear. Why he ever played games like that he wasn't sure. Still, they had given him an adrenaline rush at the time and he really enjoyed that.

When Aether opened the door to the manager's office, his partner in crime had been looking in another direction, it was actually the other boy's exclamation that brought Angelo back to the problem at hand.

He definitely had a completely different reaction upon seeing the dead bodies strewn around the room to the teen that had stopped in the doorway. Angelo raised an eyebrow, but said nothing to the scene. It was...unfortunate, but...what it meant to him was that they had a much larger problem on their hands than they anticipated.

"Yo." Stepping forwards, he placed a hand on top of Aether's as the other reached for his bag, "Cool it for a second. Step inside first." With that he stepped past the other male and walked other to the nearest body laid out on the floor. There he knelt down, expression as straight and calm as ever, and dipped his hand into some of the blood, rubbing it between his fingers. "Yeah...we might have a problem." Angelo's words definitely didn't match his expression, he was grinning slightly as he looked back to Aether, blood still on his hands. "Come outta the doorway and get that bag open, some fuckers're tryin' to mess us up."

Just as Eli's hand was on his bag strap, he stopped when he felt another on top of his. Though there was mild panic still within his system, his face remained rigid while allowing Gunner to step past him. He gave one last look towards a bloodied hand before stepping into the room after his partner.

Seeing the blood still was fresh, his stomach dropped.

Great. Just great.

There were was no need for the rather amused Gunner to explain to him as he saw the liquid stick to his fingers. It wasn't long ago when they were likely still alive. There was a groaning behind them. It was very faint, but the sound of machinery had gotten Eli to almost flinch. Hearing Gunner's words, Eli gave a very grave nod, though there was confusion in his eyes as he stepped out of the doorway, hand then slipping into his bag.

"You're awfully calm about this." he murmured loud enough for his partner to hear. He drew out his sword from his bag, and carefully unsheathed. "Or eager... even though we're trapped." he commented. Though his voice didn't crack, his knuckles were white enough to show that Eli was finding this tense.

Eli pressed his back against the wall and edged closer towards the door to listen to anyone out there. He clicked his tongue. The machine gears were getting a bit louder, and would be able to drown out any of the footsteps. He did not like this one bit, and he really didn't want to die here.

He tilted his head towards Gunner for a bit, giving rough signal with his hand. "I can check outside, but can you cover for me?"

Hearing Aether's comment, Angelo turned his head away from the body and looked up towards the other teen, shrugging his shoulder in response. He was calm about this? Huh. He didn't even notice.

"Hey, not like we can do much for 'em now right? Plus, got bigger issues than a few dead guys." He stood up, reaching back and removing a gun from his pocket, "We have to deal with their mess after all." The boy's words still did not match his expression, that slight grin hadn't disappeared and still remained as he walked over to stand behind Aether. After wiping his hand on his jeans to remove blood, the male peaked out of the door, scanning the expanse. Was there anyone there yet? This was so...slow, they needed a way to speed things up. "Anyway, we're not trapped. Just...delayed...yeah?"

The machines out there were awfully loud. Annoying. Maybe he could take them out.

Just as Angelo was about to start forwards, Aether made another suggestion. "Uh..." Turning to look at his partner he shrugged, "I mean yeah," He twirled his weapon around his finger casually, "Kinda boring but sure." With an overly dramatic sigh, Angelo moved up to the door and leaned against the wall, holding his hand gun tightly. "Find 'em for me." His grin grew for a moment, time to see what this guy was made of. Could he handle it? If not they always had plan B. Well, Angelo had plan B, which could become plan A whatever time he liked, maybe he'd just set them off for fun. Who knew.
