[Emperors of the Fading Suns] [Emperors of the Fading Suns] Chapter 6, Scene 1: Fading Sun

"Dragon King eggs." Argis muses a moment and looks to the two twilights. "You know your parts and the plan so far. We all have a lot of work to do. Lets get to it."

With that he ushers them out and heads back to Cross to gather Ith and Shiana for his next mission.

Flickering Claw hastens at the nest, leaving Nehir and all others behind.

The soft and high-pitched chirping reaches her first.

Two chicks are screaming at the top of their lungs for food.

The other eggs haven't hatched yet.

@Feantari: I want Argis to take over the war preparation.

I want a single post from you with all the definitive moves and numbers.

Chat with the others IC or OOC if necessary, but whatever you will post here is final.

Flicker crouches low, putting her head on one side and emitting low croaking sounds, to saurian ears a soothing grumble. As Nehir and the others hurry up behind her, she is quick to order a tub of steaming red meat, entrails and all, from a freshly killed and butchered young deer, brought to the enclosure and spilled out in front of the hatchlings. She nudges the more delectable fragments toward them with her nose, making the same reassuring growls.

It has been a long time since she helped to do this. But she still remembers the process.

After letting them smell the meat, Flicker takes a piece between her jaws, chews it till it is soft, and drops it into the gaping mouth of one hatchling. She repeats the process with the other.

It is only the beginning of a long and arduous process -- she knows from experience that newborns need to be fed every half-hour for the first week! They should more than double their weight, and be ready to feed themselves, by then, though.

The two chicks gulp the meat, and within few seconds are desperately chirping for more.

Anahuarque and Punchau, two of the Mud people entrusted with the nest, watch the show with a mix of fear and fascination.

Flicker lifts her head from feeding the hatchlings again, careful to lick her chops clean first.

"Don't be afraid," she says gently. "These are only children. And now, they're our children. It's in our power to see that they become much braver, wiser and kinder than those who gave them life. This will be our answer to the cruelties of Ankss -- we, as humans, the beloved of Luna and Sol, have it in us to be better than they were. And these young ones will bear witness to it forever."

As the pieces begin to move the to the mechanations of Argis's mind he ticks through the lists and plans...

Ships from Nathir to meet with Supplies, need to purchase one additional ship.. He relays this to Melia.

The first group will be on their way by now knowing Rhapsody's state of mind at present:

500 trained warriors and 2000 thornians

His own group would leave when he returned, hopefully tomorrow:

The nightfall branch under Nehir (150) plus a branch of tiger warriors (150) and 1000 civilians

With luck Mirror and Fangs received their messages, but from Fangs at least he expected a message in return, which had not yet come. Not a concern just yet, knowing her tendency to spend much of her power at spell work.

Kalak and Siham were busy finding a way to weaponize the Bloom and Flicker would remain to protect Cross with the rest of her army and his own fledgling force. Though it was not his original plan it was something of a relief that Cross was not left without a military leader.

His plan would carry enough defenses to Mirunda to station there and he would take 300 with him down river in three ships. With luck and cunning he hoped to bring some of Tirana's dragonblooded into the fight as well. They could be invaluable at securing the river and banks as well as a deadly guerrilla force. Much depended on the Bloom weapon and what it required. But, with a wide array of capacity Argis hoped his force would be flexible enough for any circumstance. He hoped for word or hint from Five Onyx Dreams or the network once he reached Mirunda, but his target in reserve was the shadowland that threatened the river trade itself. Even if Malek could not be won back by such a stroke it would both provide a depopulated area for Tirana's expansions and rid the river of the piracy and fear that choked trade and crippled the cities along it. If they could push back at Lookshy itself.. well, that was a discussion for a later time.

He shook his head to quiet the fires of ambition and knocked on the door to the ambassadorial residence.
