Life
Backstory— Alastair has a complicated backstory. You see, his mother comes from an extremely wealthy, old-money English family whose bloodline goes back generations within European history. They are a distant and materialistic people that care only about reputation, and thus Alastair’s mother, Alison, grew up in a very strict, repressed environment. She was the perfect daughter in every way—pretty, soft-spoken, well-mannered, and smart—but when she met Zeus while studying as an undergrad at Oxford and soon became pregnant, her family ostracized her. To make matters worse, Alison found out that the man that she loved was a Greek god and that he hardly cared about her in the way that she would need to be cared for. Zeus though, was not singularly cold in his departure from her life. He arrogantly thought that revealing his identity to her parents would convince them to support both Alison and the baby that was on its way. He was right. Alison’s parents saw the potential gain in helping to raise a demigod child and therefore welcomed Alison back into the family, though at a distance. They allowed her to live in the guest house of their family estate, but required her to quit school. When Alastair was born, Alison essentially became a stay at home mom and his grandparents assumed a cold but earnest role in the boy’s upbringing. They strictly monitored his schooling and extra-curricular activities, but even as a child Alastair could sense that they saw him more as a commodity or prize than a grandchild. Still, as Alastair grew and his power and aggression began to develop unpredictably, causing him to get into fights at school and destroy things around him, they grew increasingly indignant of his presence. So, when the opportunity came for Alastair to go to Camp Odyssey, they jumped at the opportunity to send him there to live, on the condition that he would visit them a few times a year. Upon meeting him, most people would say that Nikolai has a rather devil may care attitude—an almost reckless nature that can be gleaned from the taunting smirk that regularly graces his features. Oftentimes, the young man has such a disdain for life that he can come off as rather cynical or, oddly enough, care free in the fact that he really will do whatever he wants to do in the moment—no matter the consequences. At first, many people are drawn to this aspect of his personality, allowing him to make friends easily with a natural charisma that seems to have been refined from the charm-school training his parents put him through as a child. Still, Nikolai can push things too far sometimes, which, in turn, pushes people away from him. Nikolai pretends not to care that he lacks any close relationships with others, feigning indifference behind a rather blunt attitude that regularly comes off as rude to those that have a more sensitive disposition. Nikolai didn't even turn his head away from the giant lizard as he heard the sound of Gene's voice call his name. He felt the other student's presence appear next to him in the doorway anyways, and nodded matter of factly as Gene cut of their own burgeoning question concerning what exactly he was 'going on about'. "Yeah. 'Oh.'" Nikolai responded with a slight raise of his eyebrows.
And then Nyoko started talking, and talking, and talking. They way that she looked at him, Nikolai got the sense that she didn't quite like him—which was fine, except it seemed kind of contradictory considering the fact that she just kept droning on and on about lizards, even after she had answered his question about what the f.ck kind of creature was sitting on her bed. Apparently it was a blue-tongued skink, which Nikolai barely refrained from laughing at considering it was a rather unfortunate species name, even for a lizard.
Finally, Nikolai heaved a sigh and knotted his eyebrows, unfolding his arms in a slightly frustrated gesture. "I obviously know that it's not a dinosaur, I was just being facetious. All I wanted to—" Nik began to launch into a sarcasm-tinged rant, but was interrupted as he felt someone ruffle his hair. Now, the boy's immediate reaction to this was to pull away in defense and mild disgust, his mouth agape and ready to viscerally insult the culprit—but then his saw that it was Beatrix and forced himself to relax.
"Oh yes," Nikolai rolled his eyes at Beatrix's question, a smirk dancing on his lips, "my life was just dreadful without you. How did I ever survive?" He watched as she basically danced over to Nyoko and the lizard, raising an eyebrow quizzically. "Right, so apparently everyone and their mother knows what a skink is." He muttered under his breath with a slight huff of laughter.
When Nyoko held out Momo towards Nikolai, he physically backed up, holding his hands out in front of him to ward her off. He relaxed a moment later though, a teasing smile widening on his mouth as he tried to nudge Gene towards the two girls. "Although I'm sure Momo and I would bond straight away over our mutual love of jazz, I'm going to have to sit this one out. I'm sure Gene would just love to pet the skink though, wouldn't you, Gene?"

tell us about your powers.
Alistair has Odynokinesis, otherwise known as pain manipulation. He does this through nerve manipulation with his mind, and can cause people crippling pain quite easily and controlled when he touches them. Before he was taken away from SHARD, he learned the ability to inflict this pain without having to touch his victims, though there are limitations that he still faces with this aspect of his abilities. For example, Alistair must be looking at the person he wishes to inflict pain on, and he can't be more than a few yards away from them. Essentially, the way that this power works is that he feels his way around someone's nervous system with his mind and essentially hacks into it. After years of practicing this, it has become second nature to Alistair, and he does it almost on command whenever he focuses in on somebody, even if he intendeds not to cause them any harm. He has noticed that everyone has a distinct pattern of nerves too, and in the future, his powers could develop to allow him to inflict pain upon someone even if they're in another room by feeling our their distinct nervous system with his mind. They could also develop to allow him to inflict pain on multiple people at once.
Because Alistair has been so manipulated by SHARD (who essentially made him into a weapon), one of his major limitations is that he truly believes that he can only inflict pain upon people. However, Odynokinesis goes both ways. If someone were to help him realize his full potential, Alistair could also take pain away from people. At this moment however, Alistair has no idea how to relieve pain from anyone, and is not even aware that he has this ability. Another limitation of his is that, when Alistair is not in full control of his emotions, he is also not in full control of his powers, and this can cause his abilities to ricochet back onto him or somebody around him. Normally however, he is cold and controlled.
give us your history in one paragraph.
Alistair and his younger brother, Rhodes, were born as the sons of a high level SHARD commander. Alistair never knew his mother, as he was taken away from her as a child to live with his father, to whom she was not married. Apparently, she was a poor, small-town girl that lived near one of SHARD's previous base camps. Alistair's father was a cold, ambitious man that demanded perfection from his sons and, after seeing relative success from some of the SHARD experiments, he volunteered eight-year-old Alistair as a candidate for some of the more extreme experiments. His father did not focus on the potential negative outcomes of this testing on his son or the pain that the boy would endure, instead imagining the potential of having such a young, powerful asset under his thumb if the experiments were a success—and they were. Alistair soon developed odynokinesis, and spent the rest of his childhood being put through strict militaristic training like other successful SHARD experiments. His father was essentially conditioning him to become a weapon for SHARD, and although Alistair initially believed in the cause, he came to resent his father for turning him into something so inexplicably evil. Still, he was used by SHARD and his father to fight against CLARIS for many, many years, and so he is still cold and holds mistrust towards CLARIS as an organization, despite the fact that they essentially rescued him from years of abuse. His plan at the moment is to go along with CLARIS's invitation for the training they provide, but who knows which side Alistair will choose in the end.

Donovan inched the temperature of his showerhead up, and up, and up, but even the scalding water couldn’t distract him from the vague feeling of unsettlement that wrung his stomach like a wet dishrag. What was it, exactly, that made him feel this way? Even he couldn’t pinpoint it, and instead summed it up to being back at Montgomery Academy—which confused Donovan, because he wanted to be there.
Of course, the accident that happened at the end of last year did complicate things. If you could even call it an accident in the first place, as drowning had quickly been ruled out as the cause of death. Everyone suspected foul play. Hell, Donovan himself had even been interviewed casually by the police (multiple times!)...everyone in the Love Club had been, and, though he (and the rest of the club members, no doubt) was used to people gazing at him with an admirable sort of fear, the fear that the rest of the student body now regarded the Love Club with was of a different, more sinister breed.
Ever since the End of the World party, Donovan had found himself sinking into a disturbing train of thought as he wracked his brain for clues, memories, anything that could help him make sense of that night. He fancied himself an analytical young man, a good judge of character and a people watcher even, but trying to decipher who and, most confoundingly, why anyone would hurt Jordi left him feeling confused and frustrated. Donovan wasn’t necessarily close to Jordi, but he enjoyed his company and actively trusts Cecilia’s opinion—she had always been a good judge of character and seemed to absolutely adored Jordi.
So, needless to say, the school (not the mention the Love Club) was severely shaken up—and everyone could feel it.
First period went by smoothly enough. It was Donovan’s advanced coding class, which only contained five other people. Still, as he stared steadily at his computer screen, he could feel their eyes on him, even the teacher’s. The girl sitting next to him, in particular, couldn’t resist turning her head in his direction every fifteen second or so. And, to be honest, if she was discreet about it, Donovan could live with it—again, he was used to the stares, being in The Love Club and all—but this girl wasn’t even trying to hide it. So, eventually, Donovan got a bit fed up, jerked his head her way, hissing, “goddamn, didn’t your parents ever teach you that it’s not polite to stare?”
She got the message.
The rest of Donovan’s classes went roughly the same way, and the only solace he experienced was when he spotted a fellow Love Club member like Orey, Kosu, or Cecelia walking down the halls and gave a dignified nod of solidarity to them. He bet spectators got a kick out of that too, that it would send them spiraling into a train of thought about what exactly that sinister nod between Love Club members was meant to represent. It’s just a fucking nod people, stop reading into everything.
The class period before lunch was AP Literature, and Donovan almost groaned to himself when the teacher started talking about Lord of the Flies. I mean, he thought he was going to a top notch educational institution—hadn’t they read this freshmen year? That wasn’t even the worst part about it though, because the teacher wasn’t even trying to hide the connections he was making between the contents of the book and the current state of the academy.
”—and that’s the danger that exclusive groups and group mindsets can have upon people. It creates a certain hive mentality that can drive even the cream of the crop to horrendence acts of vi-”
That was when Donovan’s hand shot in the air, which startled not only the class—who all collectively turned to look at him—but also the teacher, who gave a little jump of surprise. Donovan sighed, “sorry, sir, I feel a little sick. May I go to the nurse?”
He was already halfway out the door as the teacher stammered a clumsy yes and something about some homework that would likely take Donovan no time at all.
Donovan slumped against one of the ancient stone walls that made up the outside of the academy, having found a bench to collapse upon (okay, Donovan never really slumped, years of etiquette class had all but wiped that ability out of him). He leaned his head against the rough material, closing his eyes with a sigh, but as he did so, a buzz shot up his leg. Fishing his phone out of his pocket, Donovan noted a text from Cecilia that gave him some relief.
Queen Cecilia: The Love Club is meeting today, immediately after class. South Wing, classroom #77. Be there. - Cecilia.
Immediately after though, came another text that was a bit more compromising.

In fact, he looked around quickly to make sure nobody saw him acting like such a food about Lucian Edevan of all people. Still, he missed the other boy's company, though he would never admit it. A slight twinge of worry wound in his stomach though, as he thought about what happened between them in England over the summer. Donovan shook his head. We agreed everything would go back to normal, he said to himself with resolve, breathing in as he typed out his response.
