Dreams of the Second Age

Interesting...does the bear have a human face? Tyrant already killed it when he finished speaking into it. Just don't pick a fight, alright? :V

No, the bear does not have a human face. It is a Lunar in his Warform.

S'why I gave myself a dot of river tongue at the least. Not too late to go back and move a dot! Since some sheets aren't finished yet.

Upside, you now have a legitimate excuse to play snakey charades.

Well, at least Pyter is speaking Old Realm for you. He can translate until you pick up enough of some more modern dialects.

1,500 years huh? That sure is a great deal of age xp acquired time. Going to wait a bit before posting to let others get something in.

It would be a bit of age xp, if you were all awake and active at the time. You were all asleep for the whole thing, but got to start off with E6 and E7 characters instead.

Just to let everyone know, we may have a new player taking the place of Shining Lotus Sage. @Rykon has expressed an interest, and SLS has offered to step down to let Rykon in. We are still early enough in the game that a change in characters won't cripple the story.

Yes Sherwood, when I strike out it's a joke. I know there isn't a reason for that much exp off the bat. I'll go edit out necessary mentions of Tulos where needed if needed.

Welcome to the game Rykon! Looking forward to having you with us.

Looking forward to joining the game. Sherwood had mentioned playing a Solar bonded to one of the Lunar PCs and I was curious who didn't have an established bond.

If character personality is a concern, I plan on using the following virtue spread Compassion 3, Conviction 3, Temperance 1, and Valor 2. The Virtue Flaw I'm looking at is Red Rage of Compassion (where you attack the apparent cause of suffering in the area). Background in a nutshell is an outlaw who Exalted while being tortured and thus has chosen to always end lives as swiftly and humanely as feasible when in encounters to the death, until he limit breaks, in which case he responds with full force brutality. Concept definition is wafting between ninja, spirit hunter, ranger, and general rogue areas. I'll link the sheet soon.

Solar to lunar bondmates so far consists of only Shining Exemplar and Fist Tyrant to the best of my knowledge. I haven't seen the other 2 lunars say anything yay or nay towards bonding with Rine or your character. Might have missed something if that is not the case.

Ok caught up on all the IC and OOC stuff. Waiting for approval from Sherwood before jumping in.

Most of the sheet looks good, I just have a few details that I want clear first. You may go ahead and start to interact with the others in the stasis chamber.

@Sherwood Can it be inferred that Pyter told us about the usurpation's after math and ensuing shogunate as well? Just checking since there were no mentions of it.

Pardon the awkward intro, trying to prevent forcing the group to repeat things at this point.

So are we actually wanting to setup in Rathess or do people have plans for setting off for other places? Right now I find it mind be good to get an idea of the current scope of Essence use in the area. Hopefully between negating concealment and essence sight we can get some sort of bearing.

First I'd like to determine that we can leave this vault alone and return to find it not looted. I think after determining the state of the city and such, we can come back to this question and see what we all want to do. Also it would be a better idea to have the 3 who came down do the navigating with you in the nearby scouting position of the party. You would have better stealth rolls, but who knows which parts of the tunnels from the first age are still around and or safe?

@Sherwood what defenses/wards beyond the door still function? How functional is the door as a defense after so long?

Without the key to easily unlock the doors, both the outer and inner doors require the opener to channel 40 motes of Essence into it to unlock it. In the hallway in between the the two doors are a small handful of active traps that reset themselves after each use that draw off of the power of the hearthstones inside the sleeping chamber to operate. Also, the rooms are warded against scrying, dematerialized spirits and ghosts, and is blocked from detection by the Loom of Fate.

Sherwood, just to confirm: the dragon kings are the ones who are doing the ambushing, not being ambushed?

Correct. The goblins are on the move, and there are the DKs about to attack them.

So from what I'm getting out of the recent events, the majority of the group wants to leave Rathess, raise forces then come back, the others (including myself) are more inclined to just stay and either deliver a compelling eviction notice to whatever has settled in or present them with a job offer.

So I'm curious as to what the others goals are, does leaving really provide us with much of an advantage? From the way I see it, leaving the city of Essence wielders increases the chance of being noticed by the wrong crowds, where on the other hand it seems more like this area was assumed to be a lost cause anyways by the Bronze Faction & pals.

I'm not dead set against moving out, I just think we should at least justify fleeing by finding a threat worth fleeing from before preemptively doing so. From what has been presented so far in character, the highest threat level so far seems minimal.

I guess we'll see what happens shortly after the ambush is resolved.

According to the books, the biggest threat in the area is an essence 6 dawn and a bunch of fair folk. The former we can match and exceed directly with our own Elder Dawn and Full Moon Lunars, and the latter is basically no threat to anyone with a mild investment in combat and anti shaping charms.

I think the only person most vulnerable here is me, with my lack of offensive combat charms, but I'm a sorcerer, so give me an hour or three and I'll be conjuring up living siege weapons in the form of third circle demons to compensate for that.

I suppose our biggest issue right now is how we want to handle saving creation. Do we want to establish a power base and build armies to make ourselves force to be reckoned with, at the cost of being a stationary target? Or do we want to sacrifice some power in exchange for being a mobile band of heroes who are a hard target to pin down but lack a support network?

Unfortunately we no longer have an Elder Dawn. My night caste is very capable of acting in combat however.

Even if we have "vulnerable" party members, I can use dodge charms to defend everyone within a 60 yard radius of my character. And as they target the non-combatants, I can reflexively steal and attune to artifacts the opponents are using as a counterattack, including armor/warstriders. Our sorcerers can be charging up the cool stuff and still be perfectly safe.

To stop myself from rambling on combat options, the short version is if Rathess is being run as written, we got this. I'm sure there will be a twist or adjustment here or there, but still. Nothing presented thus far hints at TPK to me yet, so we might as well explore before slamming the nope button.
