MARINA
overview.
O
nly one may survive.
For as long as the Houses can remember, this has been the way of life. The ฮบฮปฮญฮฟฯ has claimed countless lives through each cycle, yet the Champion that arises from the battle does such with glory and power. Power to tip good fortune in their businessโs favor, or power to cripple the competition next cycle. Anything to appease their ancestors, anything to appease the curse.
As punishment for their egregious egos among the stars, the ancient Gods casted down those of legends to the mortal realm once again. Even Athena was lost, her protests of wisdom falling on deaf and dying ears. Those who had worshiped the myths still helped bear their punishment, becoming vessels for the fallen legends to reenact their tales and slaughter their foes once again. Beasts were pulled from Tartarus, brought back as their greatest foes. Every seven years, a new Champion is chosen from the ever expanding Houses, and every year, half of them never return. As a small respite, those who win their battles are blessed with power and riches, so that they may maintain order until the next ฮบฮปฮญฮฟฯ. The cycle repeats, and no one truly wins.
- - -
In the year 2021, the ฮบฮปฮญฮฟฯ has come again to claim its hosts and begin its battle. The Houses have grown to include thousands of families, with each one boasting their own major businesses to finance the training and growth of the younger members. When members of a House turn twenty-one, they are eligible to become a Champion in the next cycle, until the age of twenty-five. Some are lucky, and miss the cycle by a year or so. Others are not.
Set in the backdrop of New York, this ฮบฮปฮญฮฟฯ is different. In the previous cycle, the House of Salt and Beasts were eradicated, and the bloodline died. Thousands instantly gone, yet no one has an answer. How were two highly trained warriors, bearing the gifts of their legends, both beheaded so easily? The elders of the House say that it was a divine punishment from the Old Gods, but they wonโt say what for.
As the rumble of battle begins to grow, so do the whispers of betrayal and rumors of outside forces. Eight will enter the ฮบฮปฮญฮฟฯ. No one knows how many will leave.

Perseus
open
Son of Zeus and Danaรซ, this demigod is one of the most well-known heroes of his time. Sent on an impossible task to retrieve the head of the only mortal gorgon, Medusa, this famed hero not only succeeded in slashing her neck clean through, but even managed to slay Cetus. Those who are chosen by Perseus possess abnormal strength and speed, along with a pinch of 'luck.' Since the original Pantheon no longer blesses heroes, each chosen champion is imbued with a magical tendency for things to go their way, to counter against their beastly foes.
Medusa
closed
The only mortal gorgon, Medusa possessed the ability to turn those who gazed into her eyes into solid stone, with their last moments of life etched into their features. Some say she was born a monster, while others cite that she was a victim of Poseidon, and whom Athena blessed with the ability to defend herself. Many say she was punished for breaking her vow of celibacy. Whatever the reason, those chosen by Medusa are fated to be hunted by those blessed of Perseus, unless they're able to strike them down first. Champions of Medusa are 'blessed' with several snakes in their hair that enhance their senses, and are able to briefly paralyze those who look into their eyes.
Heracles
open
Son of Zeus and Alcmene, this demigod is one of the strongest and most well-known heroes of all time. Although the goddess Hera conspired against him from the moment he was born, nothing could bring the great Heracles down. Sent on 12 tasks to achieve immortality, Heracles earned himself a spot in the sky. Champions of Heracles are the strongest of the Houses, alongside enhanced durability. The House of Gold has never lost a cycle, which allows them to train their pupils to the best they can be. Champions of Heracles are also blessed with a single arrow that may pierce the skin of the Nemean Lion, but only one.
Nemean Lion
open
Although Heracles had many foes throughout his tales, the Nemean Lion was the first beast he slayed, and whose pelt he proudly wore through the rest of his trials. Itโs a sad sight to see, as the House of Pride has never won against the House of Gold, and so the true power of the Nemean Lion has yet to be realized. Those chosen by the lion are blessed with a gold dusting on their skin, which makes them impervious to blades made by mortals. They also are blessed with a set of retractable claws that can slice through armor, intended to kill the Champions of Heracles.
Athena
open
The only Goddess cast down along the legends, as the Pantheon was growing tired of her endless protests and warnings. Her pleads fell on deaf ears, and she soon aligned herself with the legends as they began to push back against the Pantheon. The Champions of Athena possess enhanced intelligence, sharpening what they already know. They also gain weapon proficiency, though most tend to prefer a spear.
Arachne
open
How Arachneโs legend goes varies from person to person. They all start the same; A woman who boasts her weaving skills are better than the goddess Athena, with the skills to back up her claims. Challenged by Athena, the weaver Arachne produces a tapestry with no flaws in it, much to the dismay of the wisdom Goddess. What happens next is unclear. Some say Athena beat Arachne with her shuttle, before Arachne hung herself. Out of shame and remorse, Athena then transformed Arachne into a spider so she may keep weaving. Others say that Athena turned Arachne into a spider due to her rage at being beaten, leaving the weaver nothing more than a beast. However the tale ends, it seems the rage Arachne feels has not subsided. Champions of Arachne are blessed with the ability to produce nearly indestructible lines of thread, to both alert them of those approaching over or to wrap up their enemy.
Jason
open
The leader of the Argonauts, Jason was a man on a mission. To earn the rightful crown of Iolcus, Jason assembled a crew aboard the Argo to retrieve the golden fleece. Yet his greatest enemy was not encountered on his journey, but instead through his lover Medea. Promised to be hers and hers alone, Medea aided Jason in retrieving the golden fleece, and the two seemed fated for each other. Yet when Jason turned his back on her, and instead opted to marry Glauce, Medea was outraged. She killed both Glauce and their two children, before fleeing and leaving Jason alone. Champions of Jason are blessed with enhanced speed and strength, alongside
Medea
open
The other side of a deadly coin. Behind every great hero are those who support them, and thereโs no one more supporting than Medea. Having fallen in love with Jason, she offered up her magic to help him pass each task, so he may retrieve the golden fleece. All she asked for in return was for him to take her with him, and be hers alone. And for some time, Jason stayed true to his word. That was, until Glauce came along. Filled with rage from Jason abandoning her, Medea poisoned Glauceโs dress and slayed her two children, before fleeing to Athens in a golden chariot. A sad end to their tale, truly. Those chosen by Medea as Champions are blessed with an innate knowledge of magic and poisons, with the ability to move objects through the lost mystic art.

rule one.
This is not first come, first serve. There will be an application process for each role, and I will be choosing the best suited character when the deadline passes. I have other Houses and lore planned out, so I may add more spots depending on the reception. Understand that this RP is also intended for advanced writers, and those who enjoy longer prose. Please do not apply if you find yourself constantly falling under 500ish or so words per reply. Realistic FCs only, thank you!
Please look at the lore page for more information.
rule two.
A certain level of activity is expected. A Discord will be made available to those accepted, and itโs required to join to keep up with news + information. The goal is for one post a week, though I know that can be such a finicky schedule to stick with. Just try to keep that in mind for how frequent posts should occur/when you should be responding to other players.
rule three.
I plan to keep this RP 18+, so please respect that. All other RPN rules obviously apply, alongside the expectation to be respectful to fellow players. If you have any certain triggers, please come to me before the RP starts so we can discuss how to avoid/handle them if they come up.
