Appearance :: Rigarius stands 6'5" tall with a slight build. Any who saw him without knowing who he was would hardly think him much of a soldier. His frame is thin, his skin pale--offset only by his brilliantly blue eyes. He looks young--perhaps even too young to hold his position--but his eyes give lie to a youthful face.

Profession :: Teacher

Few people know that Rigarius is, in fact, not a career-soldier. He makes his living at a private school, teaching combat to youths age eight to eighteen. Those who are privvy to this knowledge also know that he was pulled from his usual job to command the Army of Fydine due to his uncanny skillset and a vast amount of previous experience.



Combat Style :: Truth be told, there are fewer combat styles that Rigarius does not use.


Preferred Weapon :: Bastard Sword - so named in that it accommodates a "hand-and-a-half"


Personality :: Those few who know him personally know Rigarius as a genial, truly kind man. It has been said that he is the sort that would give up what little he owns for a friend in need. Even to those who count themselves among his friends, however, there always seems something unsettled about him. Some deep sadness that always lingers--though he may smile and laugh, a shadow lurks behind his eyes, never touched by happiness.

Rumors

Rumor has said many things about Rigarius. The most lucrative of these things is that the reason he has been given his position is because Saphrin the Silvermoon, daughter of Afflatus, and Goddess of Peace, willed it be so. That Rigarius is chosen by the Gods would be rumor enough, but some whisper further--that Rigarius is not, in fact, chosen by the Gods, but rather, the Lifebonded of Saphrin against her father's will. Thus, murmur the rumors, mankind has placed his fate in the hands of a man not chosen by the Gods, but, in fact, disavowed by Afflatus himself.


If one were to believe these rumors, the army might look doomed, indeed.

  BIOGRAPHY
  
  
  Eycil grew up, in a small village southwest of Naloma, knowing that magic was evil unless devoted to service of the Gods. It was a truth she never questioned, an absolute that was never up for debate. At the age of six she witnessed a neighbor's house burn to the ground with the family trapped inside; their son, then only a few years older than herself, had been hiding his magic. The family had helped him, hidden him away for fear of having him burned at the stake. Instead they all burned. Eycil remembered the sound of the screams as the other townspeople rushed around with buckets of water. She remembered the smell of burning flesh. Rules were for a reason; when they were broken, no matter how just the intentions may have initially been, there were repercussions.
  
  
  Three years later, at the age of nine, Eycil learned to form a shining ball of light in her hands and knew she had been cursed; she told her parents everything and begged them to turn her in, begged them to have her put to death. Her parents, shocked and distressed to find that their only daughter had been cursed with magic, sent her to the chapel to offer herself up to Afflatus--one last hope at life. If the God would not have her, she would forfeit her life.And so she went. She knelt on the cold stone floor in front of Afflatus' statue, tears running down her flawless young cheeks, and begged him to send some sign that she could serve him better in life than in death. Her life was his, one way or the other, she knew--but even at nine she understood the finality of death and a life of service sounded better than no life at all.
  
  
  Afflatus' sign came; before her red-rimmed eyes the statue of the great God seemed to come to life. He crouched before her and reached out, touching two fingers to her forehead... and then he was gone--the statue nothing more than a statue again. But within her mind was the surety that she had been touched by a God, and the determination to give her life to Him. The following morning she left for Naloma on her father's horse; her parents, left behind, were tearful but proud--the magic was not a curse after all, but a gift straight from the hand of Afflatus.
  
  
  Eycil threw herself into her training with fervor; many recruits were much older than her and she was determined to match them in skill and in drive. Many were surprised--not only that she had been Called to service so young, but that she had a fire in her eyes that was truly frightening at times. While she wasn't always the best at what she did and rarely ever excelled at first, she always applied herself consistently--when her drive failed her she reminded herself that this was her second chance at life, that without this Calling she would be long since burned for her magic. Having started early, she completed early; she finished her training and earned her shield at the age of seventeen, becoming Ser Eycil. Since that time she has applied herself to her duties with the same faith and determination, going wherever need dictated, and rising through the ranks of the Paladin as a result.

  PERSONALITY
  
  
  At first encounter, Eycil comes off as cold and standoffish. She seems to care more for rules than for any cause, more for her duty than any person. She dedicates herself whole-heartedly to any task given to her and carries out instructions to the letter. While this behavior does well for her position among the Paladins, it rarely earns her any friends.
  
  
  For those few who do get close enough to move past the cold demeanor, however, Eycil is deeper than a single-minded soldier. She believes in rules because she has seen what happens when they are broken, and she isn't willing to ever bend them again. A lifetime of believing in rules for the greater good has, perhaps, caused her to put too much faith in rules--until it became something she believed in for the sake of itself, rather than any cause behind it. Her standoffishness isn't a result of antisociability, but rather, by a reluctance to form bonds which she may have to break in the future. Any comrade is able to break the rules, to fall prey to temptation in one direction or another--if that should happen, Eycil wouldn't let a friendship prevent her from turning someone in, no matter how much it may pain her.   BIOGRAPHY
  
  
  Shivali was born to a prominent magic-using family in Lansimar. With her father as a mage-scholar and her mother a mage-mercenary, no one was surprised when she showed signs of Magic at a young age. Her parents taught her themselves, first the ways of magic, then the ways of combat. She received a very unorthodox education in demons, necormancy, and dark magic, all before the age of eighteen. She delayed in taking her Mage exam, not caring much for the title of Master or the right to a Magename. In spite of her magic, she always considered herself more of a fighter than a magic-user, taking after her mother in that respect. Instead she spent her time taking jobs with her mother and assisting her father in his research.
  
  
  When Shivali was nineteen she killed her first demon. Something clicked within her--the hunt and the fight, which to the rest of her crew had been a challenge, to her had seemed natural. She could Feel the demons, See them and their plans, and predict how they would behave. She began, with her father's help, to develop poisons that would target demonic blood, specifically. Her aptitude for finding and killing demons began to spread, and soon she had jobs lining up for her--but no Magename to her birth name.
  
  
  With her father's urging, however, she took the Exam at the age of twenty; she passed, though the visions she had within the Exam chamber linger on in her nightmares five years later. The Exam earned her the name of Demonsbane and life continued for her much as it had before. Her reputation grew--as Shivali Demonsbane, the demon hunter, rather than Master Demonsbane the Mage. Still, the Exam had brought her to the notice of the magic community, and occasionally they would commission her for a job.
  
  
  Only a short time before Chamis delivered his prophecy, Shivali was commissioned by the Archmages to hunt down a demon who--reports had it--had the ability to control the blood within peoples' veins. The demon was running amok, killing far too many to be allowed to live.
  
  
  She tracked the demon via her Sight magic, and had concocted a poison specifically for him. With her Shields firmly in place to prevent him from using his magic on her, she managed to corner the creature.... only to see that it was hardly a demon at all, but a young boy. Surprise stayed her hand--though she could feel the demon blood in his veins, she couldn't bring herself to kill him. Instead she brought him to the Solace Center for Magical Education to find a mage-master.
  
  
  Unfortunately, this came nearly the same time as the chaos broke out, following Chamis' prophecy. There were no Mages to take the boy--certainly none who had the know-how to deal with a boy who was clearly partially demonic. And so she was given a choice: to execute the boy--he was too much of a danger to others to allow to go free--or to teach him herself. As much as she loathed the idea of joining the magical community, of becoming an actual Mage-master and having an apprentice like the rest of the robe-wearing fools, she hated it less than the idea of killing a boy whose only crime was lack of education. He had killed, but unknowingly--like a wild animal in the wrong place at the wrong time.
  
  
  Compassion stayed her hand, and she took the boy as her apprentice.

  PERSONALITY
  
  
  Shivali's bark is worse than her bite. She comes off as more mean and self-serving than she actually is. She seems to do the things she does out of personal enjoyment and a sense of belonging, but deep down she does them because they're the right thing to do. She may have a nasty glare and a knack for coming up with cutting insults and disturbing threats, but she rarely carries them out. Still, there is something intimidating about a person who hunts demons for a living.
  
  
  She has a short fuse and little patience for ignorance, wrong-doing, or general stupidity. In spite of that, she walks on the light side of the spectrum; she might seem stern, strict, and overly-serious at times, but she does so in the pursuit of goodness. Hunting demons--her calling and her passion--is done for the betterment of the world, the protection of the innocent, and the destruction of evil, but never for personal gain. She dislikes being labelled as a mage because she believes too much stock is placed in titles and stations--there are very few politics in Lansimar, but magic is as political as it gets. She doesn't much care for notoriety, in spite of the fact that it follows her where ever she goes. At the very least, she is spared notoriety from recognition--which is what she would have if she wore robes and carried a staff, marking herself as a Mage. Instead she slips mostly under the radar in daily life, passing as just another mercenary.
  
  
  It is a rare sight to see her smile, rarer still to hear her laugh. Those who try are usually met with a stony glare from haunting orange eyes. Most never try again. Those few who are able to look past the seriousness, ignore the glares, and try a second time are usually those who get close enough to succeed.

  In a word: callous. Nikomis has never shown much regard for anyone but himself. Many would go so far as to call him a cold-hearted self-serving bastard. He is motivated entirely by selfish desires, doing nothing that does not improve his own position. Rarely does he show respect for rules or authority; to assume that any authority was higher than his own would be an affront.
  
  
  
  
  He prefers the company of himself above any others. That is not to say he is too arrogant for interactions--though sometimes he does display an outward arrogance--but rather, that he loathes interaction.   Nikomis enrolled in the SCME as an apprentice at the age of thirteen. Before this time, very little is know about his past. It

  known that he spent some short weeks at a different school before being moved, his teachers citing difficulty fitting in and trouble socializing. At the SCME he was paired with Mage-master Slyth Soulsteal and spent his younger years learning, largely in solitude. His Mage-master was, similar to Nikomis, a recluse; neither interacted much with others when they were present at the school. More often than not, however, they were away; Master Soulsteal preferred to teach on the road. Nikomis' progress was tracked by the school once a year and he was found to make great improvements in leaps and bounds. Questions were raised about Master Soulsteal's reaching methods--some feared he pushed his apprentice too hard, teaching him dangerous methods to expand his mana pool rapidly--but investigation never turned up any conclusive evidence.
  
  
  
  
  Nikomis passed his Mage Exam early, at the age of eighteen. He earned the name Crimsongaze and disappeared for a few years following. It is unknown what he did with this time, but apparently he never returned to the SCME or had any further contact with his former Mage-master. Master Soulsteal himself died suddenly in his room at the SCME not long after Niko's disappearance. He was found sitting in his chair with his eyes and mouth open and a look of horror upon his face. Healers were unable to ascertain the cause of his death--for all intents and purposes he simply ceased to live.
  
  
  
  
  Seven years after earning his Magename, Niko returned to the SCME to apply for a teaching position. He was then twenty-five, and the Archmages noted a considerable surge in his power since he had passed the Exam. He was granted the position--though with some reservation--there were those among the Archmages who feared Nikomis, by now. The boy had always been one to keep an eye on--and not necessarily in a good way. For better or worse he was granted the position and has taught at the SCME for the past five years. Though no formal complaints have been filed against him, some have noted that his teaching methods are... unconventional.
