DIE ZOMBIES, DIE!

Francis stared into the night sky, like he had always done back in his old town. He could name every constellation, every planet.

Before he drifted off to sleep, he thought it comforting that although almost everything in his life had changed, the stars he loved would remain the same for as long as he lived, for however long that was.

Myuki didn't awake until the next morning, sitting up. She knew that Francis was either outside, or in the living room, but she didn't want to get up yet. She was afraid that he would yell at her, and that was probably why he had never seen her afraid. Around him,

She was always afraid.

Back in his old town, there was never a need for alarm clocks. The sweet, euphonious songs of birds and the soft rustling leaves were more than enough.

Now there was only silence.

Francis hated what he was doing to Myuki, it killed him everyday. But he knows that one day he'll be gone, replaced by someone who may or may not be as, if not more hateful than Francis.

And they wouldn't be holding back.

Myuki bit her bottom lip carefully, her fangs chewing on the skin and easily causing a small pool of blood to form on her mouth. She spit it out quickly, the iron taste of it reminding her of her past. She kept her hand firmly on the door for a second, taking a sharp inhale before shoving the door open.

Francis carefully waded through the unkempt grass, His broken in boots parting the grass like the red sea. Suddenly he stopped, he arched his back slightly and wore the thoughtful but troubled expression of a hunter. He caught the distinct smell of death, its sickening and perverse sweetness.

"Storm's coming." He murmured to himself.

There was always one more horde, one more problem and most of all, one more memory of her.

He knew he was ready, this horde was one of many that he had not only survived, but crushed.

But was the kid ready?

Miyuki looked at the empty living room with a sigh, taking off her uncomfortable collar for a minute. She scratched at her scar, her nails raking gently along her bumpy skin where the scar was. She was glad that mirrors where hard to find now, because looking in one would just make her want to cry.

Francis watched the horizon intently. The scent of death was becoming more pungent by the minute and he couldn't figure out which direction the horde was coming from. He scowled, although that wasn't anything new nowadays. If he couldn't figure out where the horde was coming from, they would be forced to move, a plan of action not agreed upon by his creaking joints. South, North, West... it seemed like they were coming from all directions.

...

...

Francis' eyes widened.

They were coming from all directions.

Miyuki could hear a faint rumbling, which caused her ears to perk up. She forgot about her collar, as she grabbed her guns and shoved open the front door to see her worst nightmare. Zombies, zombies everywhere.

Francis stood transfixed at the sight of an entire country uniting to hunt two people.

He supposed it was humanities greatest achievement, everyone uniting no matter their race, gender, age or social class for one singular goal.

And it only took everyone involved to die a horrific death.

"Stop thinking like that, FOCUS"

It was only a matter of minutes before the wave of death crashed into their pitiful defenses.

He looked around for anything, everything that could help, eventually resigning himself to settle his gaze on the street.

Francis had a plan.

Only it didn't include him surviving.

Myuki started shooting anything within sight, looking frantically for Francis. Despite the fact that she showed nothing but hatred towards him, she couldn't bare the thought of him dying a slow and painful death. She was build to survive the virus, and she probably would. A simple scratch wouldn't penetrate her skin. But it would on his.

Everything was as Francis left it the last time he was down here. The rows and rows of buttons reminded him of what it was like before IT happened.

He winced, the amount of bite and scratch marks he had was morbidly impressive

He took a deep breath and started the sequence that he knew would end his life.

"She'll be ready,

She has to be."

Francis closed his eyes as the subway tunnel collapsed all around him.

After all the waves had passed, Miyuki was still searching for him. Coming across a broken subway tunnel, she went searching though the wreckage. And sure enough, after a while of searching, she found a scratched hand lying underneath a large slab. "No...." She whispered, her face paling as tears began to stream down her face. She more frantically began to pull the rubble away, eventually revealing his face. "No, no no no no no." She said, her hands moving over his face. "Francis? Please...." She said, tears dripping from her face as she looked at him. "Please, don't leave me here. I need you. Please." She whispered to him, closing her eyes. 'I love you." She whispered to his dead body, collapsing into tears.

~~~~~~~~~ 20 years Later~~~~~~~~~
Myuki stared at the old movie box resting in her hands, the plastic worn and faded. She smiled sadly as her fingers traced the box, thinking of him and all the times they shared together. Many things had happened since then. The virus left humans dead, leaving only Neko's to survive. The world had begun to grow again, giving new life to the earth. She felt a strong hand reach around her shoulder and a pair of warm lips on her cheek. "Don't dwell too long. We have an anxious child on our hands." Her husband said, smiling at her. She looked up happily. "I know." She said, setting it on the table before scooping up the toddler near her feet and walking out of the house, leaving the memories behind.
~~~The End~~~
