Realistic or Modern Deal With the Devil

Thomas pulled his car out in front of O'Malley's, stopping by the entrance. He climbed out, knowing no-one was insane enough to touch a Cutter's car in New York, at least not this close to Brooklyn.

In spite of how early it was, he pulled his flask from his jacket, taking a drink from it, then wiping his mouth and returning it to its place.

Once inside the pub, Murphy approached the two already there. He removed his coat and cap before sitting down and lighting a match for the cigarette he had held in his mouth. It would probably be the thing to kill him, but It was one of the few things that kept him sane so he wasn't too keen on letting it go just yet.

"So, when is that dinner?", he asked, "As founder of Murphy Company Limited, I should probably know the times of events I go to, especially those regarding charity." The way Thomas spoke, mostly when discussing business, was far different from the way he spoke normally. However, he did not trust these people, and for good reason, so he didn't yet have a reason to relax around them.

Ned leaned back in his chair and idly cracked his neck. "Yeah, I did a little snooping and put in a couple calls, and I got a couple ideas for how we can do this. We just gotta wait for Missus Union Jack to show up before we get started." Ned paused for a moment to stretch his arm then sat upright again. If there was one at least one thing he could be sure of, it was that everyone else wanted to get the job done right.

Joy had woken up bright and early, knowing she had to meet the other three at the same bar they had met up at last night with that lady Ms. Doyle. She had put on a simple dress for now and a hat over her curly hair with minimum make-up, keeping it simple. She walked to O’Malley’s, the distance not too far from where she lived. Joy looked into the window of the bar from outside and saw the other three already sitting at a table in the center of the bar. Joy was again the last person to arrive out of all the four.

She opened the door and walked in, glancing towards the bartender who was moving around, preparing a drink. ”Sorry I’m late” she apologized as she sat down quickly. She didn’t think she was that late, maybe fashionably late, but that was it. It had only been a few minutes since the others had arrived. She quickly took off her coat and laid it back on her seat as she eyed everyone for the second day. Joy realized that she hadn’t properly introduced herself to the group and figured now was the best time to do so.

“My name is Joy, by the way. Joy Caldwell. Have you lot started talking about the charity dinner that’s tonight?” she asked curiously, trying to make sure she didn’t miss anything too important from the few minutes she wasn’t there.

Thomas nodded in response to the man. So there was a something resembling intelligent thought in that head of his. "Well, let's not waste any more time then",he said watching as Caldwell arrived,"The Brit's here." Thomas was obviously anxious, though nervous would be the wrong term, to see this through. Perhaps it was his dislike of his compatriots or his will to move onto better things, his motivation would be something he took to the grave.

As Joy introduced herself, it began to dawn how disorganized and unfamiliar they all were, yet they were meeting st bars and planning days full of events early in the morning. It was almost funny, but not enough to crack the grim expression he seemed to wear everywhere.

"Murphy",he said to the group,"Or Mr. Murphy if that's what suits you, I don't give a damn." Thomas had an aversion to giving out his fore name to people who had yet to know it, as anyone to whom he wasn't important enough to even be on their radar were very dangerous people indeed.

Valya smiled as the shot of vodka and cup of coffee was placed in front of her. Sticking her cigarette between her lips as she poured the vodka into her coffee, mixing it around with a nearby spoon. After taking a drag she breathed out the smoke and held her cigarette with one hand while bringing the cup up to her lips with the other. Taking a sip as she watched Joy walk in, placing her cup down as she listened to everyone talks amongst themselves. "Joy, Murphy, and... " She said as she gestured to Ned, a smirk present on her face before she looked away as soon as they started to speak about the plan.

"Now everyone is here we can start. Yes?" She looked at all of them, holding her cigarette between her pointer and middle finger as she spoke. "From last night I assumed we agreed that the assassination will not be taking place during the banquet. I made a few calls and was able to persuade them to put my name on the list of attendees as well as a date. Now I can get close to the attorney but convincing him to leave the banquet will take some persuasion." Valya decided to leave out exactly how she managed to get her name on the list, seeing it wasn't very important. "I'm sure Miss. Joy won't have any problem getting in either. The attorney loves a pretty face. " She ended by taking a sip of her coffee, unsure how experienced the others were with this kind of thing. Wondering if Ms.Doyle was only playing them and they were going to fall right into her trap.

"Well, in case I didn't introduce myself, the name's Ned Finnegan, but I frankly don't care what you call me. Anyways, about the plan- we actually might not have to wait until after the banquet to pull it off. I can get myself onto the wait staff, and all it'll take is a poisoned drink to kill the guy. The D.A.'s old, so maybe it'll look like he just keeled over from a heart attack. The thing is though, even if this might be easier, the D.A. croaking right in the middle of a party ain't exactly low-key. Even though Doyle said we ain't gotta be sneaky, it'll still raise plenty of suspicion. An autopsy might show his cause of death wasn't natural, and that ain't gonna be good for us."

There were a few ways they could pull this job, although Ned wasn't totally sure of what would be the best. Added to that, he was still largely unfamiliar with the others, and he could only hope that they'd work together well enough. "Of course, killing him after the party isn't off the table. Gypsy Boy here can pose as Lady Hammer and Sickle's fiancé, and the two of you could maybe get close enough to the D.A. to make some kinda move. Or, like Lady Hammer and Sickle suggested, Missus Union Jack could be the lonely single woman in need of an escort and lure the D.A. out someplace where he suffers am unfortunate accident."

Joy nodded respectively toward Murphy and Finnegan as they introduced themselves. She already knew Valya’s name from her own introduction the night before. “Nice to finally know your names” she told them before listening to how Valya was able to put her name on the list of those attending the party. “Well if he does like a pretty face, then I’m sure I won’t have any problems getting in either” she agreed. Joy had always been confident and satisfied with her physical appearance. She knew she was an attractive looking woman, to a lot of people’s opinions, but she only used this to her advantage when she really wanted something. Nor did she go around boasting about anything.

She listened carefully as Ned spoke of the possible plan he had been thinking of. “Secretly poisoning the attorney’s drink is not a bad idea Finnegan, but the autopsy might show foul play, like you had mentioned, and would mostly lead to the waiters since they are the ones who deal with the food and drinks” Joy pointed out.  “Which could lead to you and then lead to all of our downfalls.” She watched as the bartender wiped down the counter after making the drinks for Valya. Her head whipped back around to stare at Ned as he gave the group possible roles. “Though I would love to be the lonely, single woman” Joy mumbled sarcastically as she flipped her hair over her shoulder. “I believe we should just wait until after the party, preferably when the attorney is alone by himself. That way, there would be no possible witnesses or someone who could point us out as suspects if we were to walk off with him and finish the job.”

Thomas sat in silence as the three tossed around ideas. "Why not grab him on the way home?",he asked,"By then, his security will be much more relaxed, so it'll be easier to get to him. I can have the cops on my payroll stop him on phony charges and take him to one of my warehouses. We'll toss him in the East when we're done and no-one will be the wiser."

Truth be told, Thomas could've had the man killed the night before, but he wanted to see just how resourceful his new comrades were.

He took one last drag off of the cigarette before dropping the stub into the ashtray. "But we can do it your way Finnegan",he said,"Just know, if it goes sideways then, it's on you."

"Cops might not be the best idea if we're talkin' about the district attorney here, Gypsie Boy. If he suddenly goes missing, then people are gonna start askin' questions, including the D.A.'s dear friend, the chief of police. And if the chief manages to find out that it was a couple of his boys who pulled the D.A. in, then it gets traced back to you. More people means more loose ends, and it ain't like bent cops are the most trustworthy people around."

Valya listened as the three went back and forth, sighing as she took a sip of her drink before speaking. "No poisoning and no cops. I say kill him in his house when he's  getting ready for bed. Or better I can persuade him into a hotel and then it looks like a prostitute killed him. I can make it look like he suffocated to death without any DNA evidence. All I need are a pack of cigs and my lighter and it's a done deal." Valya honestly didn't care how it ended just as long as it didn't come back to her. "Cops talk, if we do it your way mister we can't just let the cops leave either. They got to go to."  Valya didn't like the idea of outsiders assisting with the job mainly because she knew people talked and keeping a cop quite was always a pain in the ass.

"You ain't doin' this alone. We still don't know each other, and if you do this alone, then as far as the rest of us know, you could just kill the D.A., not bother to tell us, and take the payday for yourself. Or even worse, you could be working for the D.A., or an undercover cop, and just be setting us up for a trap. The only way we're doing this is together."

Joy sighed softly as they all spoke of different options and scenarios of how they could kill the attorney. None of them were bad ideas but none of them were good enough, in Joy’s opinion. “We should just either bring him somewhere completely private or just go to his home after the event. Maybe it would be better if we killed him in his house rather than a hotel. He lives alone, right?” she asked, glancing at Valya. Joy figured the woman could know that kind of detail. “If we were to kill him at a hotel, then it won’t be too long until someone finds his body” she noted. She sighed again, wishing that they all could just come up with something so that they were prepared for tonight and could get this job over with. If the first job Ms. Doyle gave them was to kill an important figure, Joy wondered what would be the next.

Thomas looked towards Valya asbshe mentioned the police."Red, if you think I have a problem with killing coppers, you must not read people well.",he stated. He reached into his jacket pocket behind him and pulled his flask, unscrewing the cap. Thomas looked and nodded toward Joy before taking a drink. "I agree, killing the poor bastard will be a whole lot easier in his own house",the black haired man commented.

Thomas sighed as he finally decided that Ned's aggressive nature might cause problems. "Are we going to have problems Finnegan?",he asked, an underlying threat in his voice,"Because, I would sure hate to have to watch your body float down the fuckin' East." Murphy simply eyed the man as he waited for a reply.

With his jacket removed, the revolver he wore in a shoulder holster could now be seen. While not magical, it had taken its fair share of lives. Similarly visible were the twin razor blades still sown into his cap, the sharper of which Thomas was perfectly capable of pulling free and transforming into much more threatening weapons, though none of them would know thatm

"Cool it, Gypsie Boy. I'm just bein' cautious here. I ain't gonna have no problems unless somebody starts 'em first." Ned glared at Thomas, crossing his arms. It was clear that he wasn't the type to be taking orders, nor was Valya for that matter. At any rate though, he would still have to work with them.

Ned shifted his gaze from Thomas and rested his arms on the table, learning forwards just a bit. "I think we should stick with having Missus Union Jack lure the D.A. out during the banquet. She gets him out into some alley, then we kill him quick and take his wallet, watch, and whatever and make it look like the bastard just got mugged. The cops are gonna be a whole lot less likely to think it was a scheme if we do it like that. If we kill the D.A. in his house, then we gotta risk being seen by the neighbors, and this guy lives in the kinda nice neighborhood where the cops show up real quick."

"Trust me. If I wanted the payday you all would already be dead. The sooner you get out of your delusions the sooner we can end this thing." Valya said in response to Ned before she smirked when Thomas addressed her as Red, turning his way as she took a drag from her cigarette before speaking. "Did I say you did? No, so don't put...ah...words into my mouth." The expression still confused Valya but she felt this was the appropriate time to use it. Looking over at Joy as she shrugged. "Either way someone finds his body. I say it be easier killing him in a hotel, having Miss. Joy lead him there. He won't want his security detail following, seeing it be bad that the D.A. went to a hotel with a woman other than his wife."She decided that no matter what she said they wouldn't be listening because they were pressed for time she'd agree on pretty much anything.

Valya sighed and rolled her eyes when she heard the two men threaten each other. Taking a sip of her coffee before she decided to intervein. "The more threats you two throw at each other means less time to plan. So either shut it or leave." She was starting to get agitated mainly because of Ned and his obvious paranoia, but none the less she knew she would have to stick it through if she wanted to get what Ms.Doyle promised her.

Ned sighed and leaned back in his chair once again. Valya had a good point, and he hated to admit it, but everyone else seemed to agree on killing the D.A. either in his home or a hotel room and he might have been stonewalling things a little. "Alright, Lady Hammer and Sickle does make a point here. Whacking him in his hotel room could probably work, as long as we hide the body. Now, Gypsie Boy could pose as Lady Hammer and Sickle's fiancé and make an appearance at the party, then the two of you come back to the hotel a little after Missus Union Jack comes with the D.A. just in case she needs some backup. And finally, I can be the chauffeur if we need to make a quick exit."

Joy could feel the tension between the two men, glancing at both of them as they threatened each other. It wouldn’t help them with having to kill the attorney if half of the group was too busy bickering at each other. She looked at Valya who made a point of the attorney’s security not following him to the hotel if Joy was the one who led him there.

“Okay, fine” Joy mumbled in agreement to the plan of them playing roles. “I guess I can be the single woman who gets the attorney alone in a hotel. Hopefully, it’s not too hard to persuade him to go.” Joy already started thinking about how she could convince the D.A. to follow her to a hotel. She never had any type of experience of killing a man before. She was probably the most inexperienced or most innocent person out of the group, but Joy was a quick learner. “But the two of you better be there just in case backup is necessary” she said, pointing at Thomas and Valya. “Now that we have a plan on how we’re going to isolate the man from everyone else, how exactly are we planning on killing him?” Joy glanced at the mens’ guns and thought about her own two daggers that she kept on her body almost everywhere she went. She never used them to kill, yet, but she has used it to threaten, especially with its type of enchantment.

@The Awakened Moon @Hell-Jumper @Aio

"You just stick a knife in his throat or put a bullet in his head, easy as that. You might wanna go with the knife option since it's easier though." Joe was a little surprised that Joy had to ask how she would actually be killing the D.A. All in all, that seemed like the easiest part of the job.

Thomas studied the uncertainty in Joy's voice and body language. She's never killed before. This almost caused him to recommend she not be the triggerwoman. But she needed to do this, or she couldn't be counted on later. "Here",he said to her and slid his revolver across the table. "It's loaded. And be careful",he warned,"These Webleys don't jump, it'll go off for anything." He pointed to the hammer. "Pull that back with your thumbs, keep them away from it when you pull the trigger.",he told her,"Even if you've never shot a gun before, I'd be amazed if you would be able to miss an old man right in front of you."

Joy nodded her head slowly, silently agreeing with the idea of using a knife, more specifically her own knives. She glanced over at Thomas and then shook her head. “No, it’s fine. I don’t need your gun” she told him. “I have my own daggers.” If Joy had a look of uncertainty on her face, it was completely unintentional. She always tried to look as confident as she could, even when she didn’t know what she was doing. And especially around strangers. “I’m going to be honest here” she told the three of them, sitting up straight a little more. “I’ve never killed anyone before, but I’m sure you already knew that” she rolled her eyes slightly. “I’ve been close enough, so don’t underestimate me” she warned them, sliding the revolver back toward Thomas and flashing him a quick smile. “Thank you though” she added politely. Valya pursed her lips as everyone spoke, their words crashing into each other as she attempted to listen. She decided to focus on Joy seeing she would be the one to see this plan through. "Don't worry dear, I'll introduce you two." Valya spoke before she took a drag from her cigarette, almost coughing up a lung as she saw the look on Joy's face. "Don't worry about the killing. If you get cold feet just duck out and we'll handle the rest." Pursing her lips as she saw the flash of a gun, sighing as she put out her cig. "The girl doesn't need a gun. She'll do what comes naturally." Tilting her head slightly she looked over at Joy and chuckled. "I got faith in you. A girl like yourself always has a dark side."

@Hell-Jumper @Aio @The Awakened Moon

It seemed to Ned that everything was in order, or at least as much as it would be. Like Thomas, he was a little concerned about Joy actually doing the deed, but she also seemed smart and capable enough to be able to pull it off. Plus, they had a plan B even if she got cold feet. "If that's all there is, I think we're about done here. I say we leave, get ready, and meet back here at 7. I'll have a car ready."

With the plan finished and an established rendezvous time, Thomas rose to his feet, put his coat on and picked up his cap. Returning his Webley to its place in his shoulder holster, he walked away, making his way back to his car. He immediately noticed every one of his tires had been slashed. A man in a dark brown suit stood beside his car. "Damned kids, eh?",he said,"Always breaking something." Thomas looked at the man but said nothing. "You know, children and adults are similar in that, they get themselves into trouble without realizing the cost of their choices", he continued,"I believe you, Mr. Murphy are about to make such a choice." Thomas tensed but remained silent. The man sighed and began to leave, but not before turning back to say, "I hope you make the right chouce Tommy."
