Have you heard the tales of fae? Most end in tragedy, some result in prosperity.
The journey a fae takes to become royalty is similar to a caterpillar's metamorphosis into a butterfly...
HWDE_Fairy_Icon.png

(this would be a fae, a small ball of light with wings. They come in multiple colours)

A fae is a source of natural magic that grows to have life. With enough mana, experience and emotion... A fae can become a larger more human version of itself known as a fairy.
This is where the stories of fae diverge.
images.jpeg-40.jpg
(A fairy is a humanoid with wings. While most accounts or sightings of fairies appear to be young females, male fairies are about, just uncommon. Though male fairies tend to look androgynous in appearance)

Fairies usually stay within nature hidden from large populations, unknowingly helpful to the world's balance. Over hundreds of years though the population of fairy royalty has disappeared significantly... mostly from outside interference from strong monsters and curious mortals. It is this lack of fae royalty that has set this world onto the path of destruction...

But how does a fairy queen or king come into this world?

When a Fairy falls in love, they offer their mana to the one they love. This gesture is inherent to a fairy and subconsciously they know it grants power to their beloved, those who accept a fairy's love become greater then they once were. When two fairies confess their love for each other nothing goes wrong. But when a mortal soul accepts a fairy's love they become cursed for the unforgivable crime of killing a fairy. For a fairy's mana is its lifeforce after all, as beings of magic they are not mortal in the way other races are. The natural way is when two fairies accept the love offered to each other they become royalty.

But when a mortal refuses this offer, when a mortal refuses a fairy's confession and the mana of a fairy returns to themselves. That fairy will also transform into Fairy royalty. A queen or king capable of immense change in the world thanks to their grand power.
images.jpeg-41.jpg
(A fairy queen or king is a full grown fairy. They have massive amounts of magic power and control the environment of the domain they rule aswell as the wildlife within it. Fairy royalty these days is uncommon and the world naturally suffers because of this, also because many who acquire a fairy's power become drunk and corrupted by it, most go on to become powerful causes of chaos.)

Though the world is full of people who would gladly accept love or power, It is that reason why many fairies die. That is why a fairy queen soon to pass, has enacted a way to help remedy that situation. She has done all in her power to track down those who have murdered a fairy. Be it intentional or unknowingly...
Said queen has gathered as many as she could and gave them a way to repent for their crime. They are to bring about the birth of new fairy royalty to remove their own curses. They must watch over fae kind and work towards the goal given to them.

But this task is difficult. Those cursed by a fairy or who know how a fairy queen is born cannot share this information with others, be it spoken written or conveyed by other means. To attempt speaking of the method required for a fae or fairy to become a queen results in curses for all parties involved.

The queen has gathered all she could in the effort said people will guide fairies into becoming Queens. Though put short this means ensuring whoever a fairy is infatuated with refuses love and power offered to them. Without revealing why.
The fairy queens forces somehow have to ensure a fairy queen is made, but they can't say
"oi refuse that beautiful thing pledging undying loyalty to you for the greater good of the land"
Under penalty of death and torture of ones soul. It would be so easy if one could just tell the object of a fairy's affection "taking that from them results in death but they don't know that"
So letting fairies and those they love know the implications of a fairy's confession is a very touchy subject. Especially with how legends tell of how a fairy's love can grant strength to mortals... It has become a goal of many to seduce fairies for power.
==========================
The two big plot points this team is dealing with

1) the cast would be trying to turn fairies into royalty, this helps save the world and removes curses should they be afflicted.

2) most mortals to take a fairies power become empowered aswell as cursed. These cursed people eventually cause chaos and are difficult to stop. The cast would attempt to kill/cure these dangers whenever possible.

The cast would most likely be cursed indviduals be they fairy or a mortal race. Their goal being to chaperone/guide/watch over fairies to ensure any confession made fails unless its between fairies. The problems being the easiest answers/attempts usually lead to failure.

A fairy confession happens, what happens if you kill the recipient before a answer occurs?
That fairy sees the one they love get murdered and most likely die soon after or turn into a sprite thanks to the overwhelming negative emotions.
(Sprites are basically evil fairies)

One could simply tell the recipient in secret of the consequences, but that would curse the one saying the truth and the one who hears it.

So a fairy queen has organised a team dedicated to cockblocking confessions and killing crazies.
Your characters would need to work together to ensure plans go smoothly and no one dies or gets cursed...
Maybe you bribe the mortal to stay away from the fairy...
Maybe you beat up the mortal in secret and puppet their unconscious body to decline the fairy...
Maybe you explain why relationships between mortals and fae kind are doomed to fail without mentioning fae royalty Or curses...

While the situations may be similar the same solution may not always work.
Same goes for the cursed crazies...
If it was easy enough for common guards, soldiers and adventurers to kill one the world wouldn't be in danger. As it so happens to be, for a normal person to kill one who managed to power up via inhuman means is extremely difficult.

Im thinking four or five players works well, they would play as a cursed indvidual be they mortal or fairy doesn't matter but it will determine your role more.
Mortals would be cursed by either accepting a fae confession or by learning how it works. One gives you a magical boost but both situations result with your mind, emotions and reason eroding with time.
Cursed fairies are much more likely to turn into a sprite.

I would be open to players making a main character and playing npc's in turn as needed, it helps keep it fresh and saves me from playing/writing 99% of all npcs lol

Say you make your character a cursed human for the team...
When its needed, You might play a lovestruck fairy while someone else plays the mortal the team targets.

There's lore to this if you want to learn more before making a cs but even without it you'd still be able to make a character and discover stuff as you play.

Post requirements would be multiple paragraphs once or twice a week, depending on player engagement. It's a serious affair but it has room for dumb laughs. If you want to learn more ask questions here or in a pm.

All I can picture is a sweet little confession scene, and as the recipient awkwardly considers the answer, we zoom out to reveal a half-dozen knights hiding with crossbows, ready to shoot the recipient in the back.

Anyway, it’s a very unique premise. Let me know if you start this, I think I’d be interested in joining the romance SWAT team :bishiesparklesl:

"He said yes, take the shot."

That would most likely be the bottom of the barrel sort of idea only used when everything else failed.
"Fuck it, just kill them both" sorta shit...
To reiterate the cast would be trying to avoid murder and curses.
(Killing cursed crazies is different)

Ominous!

To be honest though I've a idea or two on what a skull knight could be but when you say "the skull knight" it makes me imagine you have a specific undead warrior in mind aha

Just a dead man stalking the endless knight, perhaps once a foolish king

actully that reminds me what happens should a fairy get rejected, but as a royal confess a second time?

Have to say no to undead characters and most monsters sorry

If a fairy royal confesses a second time they become a super fairy royal which triples their power level and gives them a gold aura... just kidding aha

For real though nothing special, fairy royalty can offer mana without being in love. Its only normal fairies who feel the need to show love like that.

i see darn was going to have a second confession and the mana infusion being the thing anchoring the knight to the world, their curse literally to live on

Undead only come about in two ways.
1) if fairys aren't in the territory undead naturally pop up.
2) evil rituals usually involving rare magic and sacrifices, powerful sprites often entice mortals to throw away humanity to grasp power and immortality as a Lich.

Fairy royalty are responsible for keeping undead at bay, because the story starts when there is a lack of fae royalty and by extension of that less fairy and fae in the world...
Undead is a common threat. Not all parties understand this. Fae royalty would and mortals who study magic and the like might have a idea.
The mana left in a mortal corpse eventually turns said corpse undead.

Fae kind unknowingly act as a filter for mana in this world.

Id prefer the characters be mortal alive beings. Humans, elves, beastmen, dwarfs, hobbits... having a need to eat sleep be social etc so the curse of killing a fairy sits on them as a huge bother
