Cryptozoology

Just curious if anyone else is into this kind of stuff like I am. Any of my friends could tell you that I'm absolutly mad about mythical creatures and such. Personally, I'm more into the actual myth- and legend-based onces (my favorite kryptid spieces is selkie, currently, though I'm obsessing over Anthropophagi at the moment) than the usual ones, like Big Foot. I have a special place in my heart for Nessie, though, for no aparent reason. So, what's your favorite kryptid? How did you get interested in cryptozoology? I'm pretty much willing to talk about anything cryptozoology related, and would love to learn about any that I don't know about yet. :)

Also, if you're interested in darker fiction novels, I'm reading one called the Monstrumologist right now. It's really interesting, and is actually the reason I learned about(and am momentarily obsessed with) Anthropophagi.

The Monstrumologist (or as you seem to call it, Monstrumogogist) creeped me out. In a good way. The Anthropophagi rather creeped me out too. I had the hardest time figuring out what it had to do with anthropology- study of humans- or the word anthropic until I figured out anthropophagy meant cannibalism. It wasn't a huge step from there to Anthropophagi.

Dang. I've got to give credit to spellcheck. It knows what Anthropophagi means.

Cryptozoology (from Greek κρυπτός, kryptos, "hidden" + zoology; literally, "study of hidden animals") refers to the search for animals whose existence has not been proven.

Gotta love Wikipedia. I can't say I've heard of it before, although at first I thought your thread said "Cryozoology" (What, freezing animals?) I'm already interested in it, however, since it's sort of like taking myth and finding it on our own present-day Earth. Interesting interest you have there.

Just thought I'd pitch my two cents in there. ($) ($)

Uh...I need to check my spelling more often (I'll fix those then). But, yeah, I'm strange in the fact I actually like the Anthropophagi. In a their-so-creepy-their-cool-because-they're-probably-not-real kind of way. I actually got bored and drew one during lunch today. But, I'm glad I found someone who I have something in common with. And who is willing to correct my spelling without being rude about it. And I'm glad for your two cents. I'd pay much more for it, if conversation had to be bought. :)

Oh~! That's an idea. I'll see what I can come up with overnight and during school tomorrow. I'll make sure to tag both of you for it, if I can come up with something. I have high hopes, as the wheels are already beginning to turn. If one of you comes up with something first, though, that'd be just as cool. :)

Nessie had a fairly large place in my childhood, but these days I'm more interested in the weird/horrifying animals that actually do exist. (Sarcastic fringeheads, mantis shrimp, king crabs, treehoppers, port jackson sharks, turkey vultures, etc.)

Sasquatch, AKA Bigfoot, and possibly Yeti. I mean, think about it. I believe that the so-called Sasquatches might be none but gigantopithecus. Like, look at the world around you ! We discover living beings each day ! We thought coelacanth were extinct but we found some alive ! And crocodiles, these things survived the 'great extinction' (Is that what it's called, anyways ?). So maybe, just maybe, somewhere in the woods, there's a gigantopithecus or two alive yet still.

Have a look at these pictures.

Does it make any possible sense ?

And 'water monsters'. I don't see why they wouldn't exist. Hell, they might even be plesiosaurs or mosasaurs (No, they were NOT dinosaurs) still alive out there. We have discovered very little of the organisms in our water, seas and oceans and so, so what prevents one or two from being alive, deep down, where man hasn't went yet ? Once again, take a look at the coelacanth.

EDIT : Don't even dare mentioning the Illuminati.

Hey, any proper scientist will acknowledge that we don't know everything.

My issue with many 'cryptozoologists' is that they presume these things exist, despite the evidence being way too weak for ANY scientific field. The faux scientific names are further indication of this - giving a taxonomic name to something we haven't even discovered yet, when taxonomy is centered around knowing enough about the creature to guess at its position in the evolutionary web.

Now, of course, these things could exist.

So could unicorns, traditional dragons, and my interpersonal skills.

Edit: Holy necropost, darkiplier! xD

This man {or woman..or demon..whatever} knows what they are talking about. The Monstrumolgist was an absolutely amazing book and it was exceedingly intriguing. The character development, the plot, the gore, the monster was frigging fantastic.

As for cryptozoology, I am somewhat intrigued by it. If you're speaking of tales like the Moth Man of course. Something to be said about the harbinger of doom.

I'm quite into cryptozoology, but more of rationalizing or debunking myths. For example, I always believed that the idea of bigfoot either came from escaped gorillas from the zoo, big bears, or even relic populations of Neanderthals. Perhaps there could be remnants of prehistoric life. In particular, there are folklore and legends regarding remaining cavemen in the Caspian area. Also, perhaps creatures of legend could stem from the remnants I spoke of.

I mostly just read stuff on 4chan's /x/ about Skinwalkers and things like that

I have a folder of Skinwalker greentexts if anyone's interested

I am Native American so we get a lot of stories around here, I would love to see the greentexts.

I didn't even know they had anything else on 4chan besides incest jokes and comedy.
xD

I'll see what I can dig out of my folder. It's one hell of a mess though, there's a lot of other paranormal crap in there

Here's a few. The names are switched out mostly because 4chan, and I guess I should give a warning for sp00kz and language.

Also, they're not all skinwalkers, there's some other crap like wendigos. I think I might've sent some pictures twice due to firefox acting up, might not have though.<p><a href="<fileStore.core_Attachment>/monthly_2015_10/GermanSkinwalker1.jpg.75f48015a325b5844c53d3405c17c0b6.jpg" class="ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image"><img data-fileid="80425" src="<fileStore.core_Attachment>/monthly_2015_10/GermanSkinwalker1.jpg.75f48015a325b5844c53d3405c17c0b6.jpg" class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" alt=""></a></p><p><a href="<fileStore.core_Attachment>/monthly_2015_10/GermanSkinwalker2.jpg.cf22e4c1905916cef3e2984f1621a067.jpg" class="ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image"><img data-fileid="80426" src="<fileStore.core_Attachment>/monthly_2015_10/GermanSkinwalker2.jpg.cf22e4c1905916cef3e2984f1621a067.jpg" class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" alt=""></a></p><p><a href="<fileStore.core_Attachment>/monthly_2015_10/1444186449018.png.0ad0ba578dc9b799a067cdae2fb3c706.png" class="ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image"><img data-fileid="80427" src="<fileStore.core_Attachment>/monthly_2015_10/1444186449018.png.0ad0ba578dc9b799a067cdae2fb3c706.png" class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" alt=""></a></p><p><a href="<fileStore.core_Attachment>/monthly_2015_10/1444186983642.jpg.4dc0ee9e5379ee97601a602a0a237bcb.jpg" class="ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image"><img data-fileid="80428" src="<fileStore.core_Attachment>/monthly_2015_10/1444186983642.jpg.4dc0ee9e5379ee97601a602a0a237bcb.jpg" class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" alt=""></a></p><p><a href="<fileStore.core_Attachment>/monthly_2015_10/1444187392415.jpg.4a3a7594c77a691aec19d13332897992.jpg" class="ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image"><img data-fileid="80429" src="<fileStore.core_Attachment>/monthly_2015_10/1444187392415.jpg.4a3a7594c77a691aec19d13332897992.jpg" class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" alt=""></a></p><p><a href="<fileStore.core_Attachment>/monthly_2015_10/1444186449018.png.912a2b0e984938d00b605986e2325b95.png" class="ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image"><img data-fileid="80430" src="<fileStore.core_Attachment>/monthly_2015_10/1444186449018.png.912a2b0e984938d00b605986e2325b95.png" class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" alt=""></a></p><p><a href="<fileStore.core_Attachment>/monthly_2015_10/1444186983642.jpg.71a3dda860fb27c8e9ea300c193efae0.jpg" class="ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image"><img data-fileid="80431" src="<fileStore.core_Attachment>/monthly_2015_10/1444186983642.jpg.71a3dda860fb27c8e9ea300c193efae0.jpg" class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" alt=""></a></p><p><a href="<fileStore.core_Attachment>/monthly_2015_10/1444187392415.jpg.d9b4e41c0e843acd408becdf1ecf11ab.jpg" class="ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image"><img data-fileid="80432" src="<fileStore.core_Attachment>/monthly_2015_10/1444187392415.jpg.d9b4e41c0e843acd408becdf1ecf11ab.jpg" class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" alt=""></a></p><p><a href="<fileStore.core_Attachment>/monthly_2015_10/1444188018415.png.94e480a8702561f66e392532d5bc8a62.png" class="ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image"><img data-fileid="80433" src="<fileStore.core_Attachment>/monthly_2015_10/1444188018415.png.94e480a8702561f66e392532d5bc8a62.png" class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" alt=""></a></p><p><a href="<fileStore.core_Attachment>/monthly_2015_10/1444188346690.png.3f6967a838c5a550958f82d1a2596deb.png" class="ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image"><img data-fileid="80434" src="<fileStore.core_Attachment>/monthly_2015_10/1444188346690.png.3f6967a838c5a550958f82d1a2596deb.png" class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" alt=""></a></p>
