Brief Background: Growing up a ‘foundling’, Alrik was raised by the state – at an orphanage. Even at a young age, he had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. Before Alrik became aware of the fact he was not destined to work magic, the boy poured his heart and soul into the study of sorcery…herbalism…alchemy…whatever information he could get his hands. Books. Eavesdropping. Absorbing what he heard and saw consumed him. Alrik took apprenticeships wherever he could manage, using the newfound knowledge to fuel the fire in his belly. Alrik felt –knew- that the life of a mage was for him. Until, that is, his powers began to manifest.
True enough, Alrik had enough power in him to conjure as well as any aspiring wizard, though at a grave price. While magickers typically drew magic from some outside source or another, Alrik’s magic fed on him from within. Though his elders pitied or shunned him, it deterred him little from his original aspirations.
