"And lo, the angel came and spoke that we may have knowledge and wield it like a sword. Thus, all foes before you will perish."
    Apocryphon of Eadwald 2:5

Apocryphon of Eadwald: A book dated to around 736 AD, written by Eadwald of Wessex detailing a supposed encounter with the Archangel Ithuriel. Following its publication, debate erupted over whether or not it should be added to the Biblical Canon. It was promptly banned and all copies seized by The Church. The imagery within the Apocryphon is vivid, describing alien landscapes, a meeting with an archangel, and prophetic musings on the end of the world. Recently several copies have shown up across Europe, quickly being bought out by collectors.

Charles Boucher: The Grand Inquisitor of the Church in France. Known as Charles the Butcher for his brutal and bloody methods of torture. His face is never seen, as he is usually wearing a helmet or a featureless mask.

Eadwald of Wessex: Eadwald was an eighth century priest living in Wessex. Eadwald had an encounter with what he claimed to be the Archangel Ithuriel. Following this encounter, he wrote the Book of Eadwald, which, upon its rejection from the Bible via ecumenical council, became known as the Apocryphon of Eadwald. Said to have become a hermit living in solitude in Wessex until his death several years later.

Lady Geneviève: The wife of Lord Isembard, and the niece of the French King. She is known across France for her beauty, red hair, and her kindness to her servants and those of lower classes. She was given to Isembard in marriage by her father who wished to please his brother, the king, and bring Plaiciennes closer to The Crown.

Isembard of Rouen: The Feudal lord of Plaiciennes, Isembard is a soldier from Rouen who inherited the region from his uncle following his uncle's death. A devout man, Isembard rules the fiefdom with a fair hand, protecting his people from those who seek to bring them harm.

Ithuriel: The angel who appeared to Eadwald of Wessex, prompting him to write the book that would become the Apocryphon. An Archangel and messenger, showed Eadwald visions of a New Jerusalem on Earth.

Jerome Verninac: A landowner in Plaiciennes who runs Maison d'Verninac, a large manor overlooking a village. He is also a collector of ancient, primarily Roman and Greek, artifacts. He acts as a councilor to Lord Isembard and his court.

Plaiciennes: A fiefdom in southeastern France, it is known for its large wheat fields, its Roman ruins, and the Plaiciennes river that runs through it. Is considered in the Shadow of the Alps, and as such, has a thriving community that also consists of Swiss, Spaniards, and Italians.

Name: Sir Morris Rolfe

Age: 29

Job: Templar Knight

Personality: Sir Morris is a reserved man, rarely does he speak out unwarranted. His devotion to God's word is unquestionable as well as his adamantine adherence to the vows that he has taken. He is not a man that seeks glory or earthly riches like his common man so appealing to him will result in him rebuking you or worse, death. Although the scars of war remained on him, Morris still strives to be positive in trying times. As per Templar decorum: he abstains from romantic escapades, refuses the intoxicating rush of alcohols, refuses to horde financial resources if he were to come into contact with such riches then he would endeavor to relinquish to the rightful owner or charity.

Familial Background: Morris Rolfe was born to mercantile parents who hailed from Winchester. Most of Morris' early life had been occupied with the earthly affairs of his parents' expanding ventures which started from humble spices then evolved to luxurious items that could catch the eyes of pontifical nobles. At first, this life suited the young merchant but as the man grew older, he became disillusioned with the task of exchanging items for pounds, shillings, or pence but convenience was not a gift that Morris had so, therefore, remained a humble merchant... Until... the Third Crusade started. The new call ad arma gave Morris the opportunity that he needed to leave the salesman's way of life and perhaps fulfill a higher purpose. With a silver tongue, he convinced his parents to send him off to join the Knights Templar. There he swore the vows of poverty, piety, chastity, and obedience to the Grand Master.

The knightly training was difficult for the young man however he took it as a test of devotion and faith. However, the true trial would be the bloodied, battlefields of the crusaders and the Sunni forces. Morris did not fail the trial however the sight of his lifeless brothers, the dead peasants who reminded him of his family, and the injuries sustained, stained the crusader in heart, mind, and spirit.

Now he is being sent off by the Order again, to face another trial... Another crucible that will test his soul.

Name: Brother Marcon de Gaure

Age: 46

Job: Benedictine Monk, Scribe

Personality: A quiet, studious man known for the long hours he spends in the scriptorium, quill and knife in hand, copying ancient texts for modern understanding. In his younger days, he had a reputation as a zealous but reasonable defender of orthodoxy resulting from many disputes with the Cathars. His horizons were widened when he was asked to act as nobleman's secretary during the second crusade. He returned with a broken leg, but his exposure to Sufi mysticism left him with a much deeper appreciation for the holy mysteries.

Familial Background: Marcon is the illegitimate youngest son of a Parisian nobleman. He was given to the monastery at an early age to get him out of the line of succession. He took to the life of a scholar readily, becoming a scribe and a translator of manuscripts. His family is moderately wealthy but poorly connected, so while he stays in touch it has little benefit to his position. He is well regarded within the monastic community, but there are whispers about his increasingly heterodox theology.

Observed Strengths: Scholar (Speaks & Reads French, Arabic, Greek & Latin. Versed in the classics & theology)
Monk (Supported by the monastery, provided with food, board and supplies)
Library (Extensive monastic library)

Observed Weaknesses: Aging (Approaching fifty after a sedentary life. Limps slightly on his left leg.)
Heterodox beliefs (Tolerable within the monastery, but might cause problems outside if he isn't careful.)
Monastic Vows (Vows of celibacy, poverty and obedience)

Equipment: Scribal equipment, clothes. Everything else belongs to the monastery.

Religion: Publicly, an orthodox Roman Catholic. Privately sliding towards mysticism.
