Realistic or Modern Clarksville RP (Hunter & ILoveYou2013)

A Fantastic Mess
Clarksville was quiet, all its occupants either asleep or just getting up in the morning for the daily grind. Edward himself was in bed currently, going over the events of last night.

He had met a man under a bridge, someone with a name he couldn't care to remember. He had set up the meeting on Craigslist through a buy+sell ad. The man thought he was getting a potential client for some very illegal, and stolen, jewellery. He wasn't however, instead he was getting a very wound up cop, who had a tough day at work. The man showed up late, and Edward used a broken piece of pipe in retaliation. The guy went down, still conscious and very much alive. He begged for his life, grovelled for it. But Edward wasn't feeling merciful that night. He used the pipe to repeatedly strike at the thief, only stopping when his arm tired. He cleaned off the pipe and threw it to the ground, heading home for the night. He crept through the front door, making sure to be quiet as his wife and children lay just up the stairs. He didn't want to wake them. Edward used the downstairs bathroom to shower and clean himself off, the blood ran down the drain easily. He would thoroughly clean it another day. After grabbing clean sleepwear he slid easily into bed next to Elaine. His beautiful wife looked peaceful, and he also felt peaceful in this moment. He was lulled to sleep by the sound of their breathing, dreaming of the terrible things he had done.

He shifted in the bed, and looked over to Elaine's side. She had no idea that she slept beside a monster, no clue that he had murdered over 15 people while marrying her. He would do anything to keep it that way. To keep her big blue eyes on him, without faltering. He was brought out of his muse when the door opened and his 5 year old son came barreling in. His name was Nathaniel and he was a perfect replica of Elaine. Big blue doe eyes and a head full of brown curls, not to mention how sweet he was.

"Time to get up!" He drawled, trying to climb onto the end of the bed. He got up with much difficulty and crawled towards Elaine, stepping over her to reach her face. He lightly tapped on her. "It's up time Mommy." Edward watched the scene and laughed, reaching over to run his hand through Elaine's hair.

"I think he wants your attention El." He had to get up for work soon anyways. Why not have an early breakfast?

Groaing softly Elaine pulled herself up from the bed. Her long curly hair fell in front of her face in large dark waves. “Hi baby!!” She exclaimed happily, as she put her feet on the hard wood floors. Sighing as she went from Elaine the adult to Elaine the mother in 2.5 seconds. Her life had changed since she had both of her children, yet she was told often that’s what happens, right.
Talking Nathaniel by the hand she was led out of the room and down the carpeted hallway, and then into the large kitchen.
The kitchen she had Edward remodel, a year of two before. The large granite and marble counters were filled with graham crackers, note pads, a coffee maker and a large stainless steal sink. The kitchen table, was stacked with breakfast bowls Elaine sat out every night and bills she want through once a week.
“Nate go get your sister up, okay?” Moving her feet around the floor she crinkled her nose. “It’s not even 5 friggen am, kid.” She grumbled starting the coffee maker.

He watched her lovingly hand in hand with their son before swinging his legs over his side of the bed. He stretched out his muscles, arm a bit sore from last night. Ed stood and made his way to the little walk-in closet, grabbing for his black slacks and a simple white button down shirt. After putting on clean underwear and socks, he dressed and made his way down to the kitchen.

"G'morning my love." He murmured as he walked by Elaine, planting a kiss on her forehead. He brushed some curls away from her face and smiled down at her. "Another lovely day hmm?" Edward moved away and head for the fridge. He grabbed the milk from the top shelf and the carton of eggs from the second. He placed them both onto the counter getting ready to help make breakfast. Their mornings usually consisted of him getting up, having a quick cup of coffee, and leaving. Soon Elaine would wake, get the kids ready, they would have breakfast and the day would start. It was rare for them all to be able to sit down, so Edward would take it when he could.

"Were we thinking pancakes or eggs and toast today?"

As much as she tried, Elaine would never actually be a morning person. Maybe it was from popping two large children out of her lady parts at four in the morning, or having to listen to them cry and scream months, into years later. Elaine liked sleep, loved sleep actually nobody had to know on the days she didn’t work, she scrambled around the house like a crazy lady after taking a four hour nap.
“Cereal.” She muttered lazily back in return as she leaned against the cool, steal of the sink. The metal sending goosebumps over her spine. Smiling lazily as both of her children walked down the hallway. “Now there’s both my babies, Dad’s making breakfast you guys hungry?” Of course they were, these two kids, could eat just about anyone out of house and home.
Soon the kitchen was filled with the clatter of pots and pans and the sounds of two very excitable small children. Over those noises Elaine turned the local news station up, the lady behind the desk being a friend a few years ahead of her in high school. “And just breaking news, a dead body has been found on the outside border of town. Police are expecting fowl play..”

He laughed as Elaine lazily propped herself up. Even grumpy Elaine was cute. He decided that he would in fact make eggs and toast, and began cooking them up. The kids sat at the table, talking about silly things, asking for their eggs to be cooked into funny shapes. The best Ed could do was wonky Mickey Mouses and a big pile od scrambled eggs. He placed the toast into the toaster and began filling up a cup with coffee when Elaine turned up the volume on the T.V.

"The identity of the victim has not been released, the police haven't-.."

Edward flipped the eggs, and placed them onto the plates. Grabbing the toast as it popped he placed one for each of the kids. They scrambled for the best looking piece, and Ed set down forks. Once the kids were settled he grabbed the coffee he made and stood next to his wife, offering it to her.

"Another one?" He asked casually. The news had covered all of the killings, but had yet to connect all of them. That was mostly due to him not using the same methods of killing, nor finding his victims the same ways. "Probably a gang thing. Nothing for you to worry about." He kissed her temple and checked his watch. He had a couple minutes to spare for breakfast. "You should eat something." Edward himself pulled away from her to sit at the table, Nathanial had already gotten egg in his hair. He grabbed his own plate and filled it with some scrambled eggs, opting out of the toast for now. "Hey," he chuckled at Nathanial. "The food goes in your mouth silly, not your hair. It'll keep growing if you keep feeding it." His son hummed as he took another bite of egg, and his daughter was taking a big gulp of orange juice.

Biting into her lip, Elaine felt a sense of unease as she stared at the lady on the screen. “Just be careful.” She reminded her husband as she looked at her two children, no not just hers; theirs.
A little boy, who looked more like his father daily as much as she hated to admit it. And a little girl, with long dark curly hair and a sharp nose that would soon turn into her mother’s softer features. Whatever he did, he had to make sure he came back to those two.
“Come on guys, we’re going to visit grandma today and then we have lots of errands to run.” Crinkling her nose she watched as the kids piled eggs, and toast into their mouths like little bulldozers. “I’ll help you get ready.” Elaine offered, leaving the two kids to sit at the table and finish eating.
Alone in the large bedroom, Elaine had turned the radio on and was helping by getting Edward his belt and socks from the top drawer of the wooden oak dresser. “Just be careful..” she reminded him, as she tapped his foot as he sat on the bed, putting his black socks on his feet. The fabric, going up over his toes and swallowing his feet into a black cotton blob.

He felt his chest ache at Elaine concern. He wished that he could erase all her worries away, to reassure her that he wasn't in any danger. He lifted his foot dutifully, and thanked his wife quietly.

"Always, I'll always be careful. You know that." He placed a hand under her chin and lifted her face to give her a kiss. It was short and sweet, like a promise. "I'll be fine El. Really." He gave her a warm smile and checked his watch. "I have to get going, tell your mom I said hi for me?" He stood from the bed and grabbed his badge from the side table. He had left his gun at the station last night. He gave Elaine one more kiss before making his way back down the stairs. He gave each the kids a kiss on the top of their heads, and bid them goodbye. "Be good for your mom."

Edward unlocked the front door, and stalked towards his cruiser. He threw his jacket onto the passenger seat and put on his seat belt before starting the car and driving away. He would be lying if he said he wasn't excited to get a second look at the damage he had dealt to the lying bastard.

The drive to her parents wasn’t too long, they’d moved all over the place growing up. Her parents, were never actually able to keep up with any bills. Elaine as an adult wondered often how they kept two children alive and semi well. Her parents now, lived out of town on the Clarksville border. They lived in a large old farm house that had been separated into two, one side her parents lived the other was a lady in her 90’s with long dark hair that went down past her knees.
Both of Elaine’s parents smoked about a pack a day of cigarettes, the house reeked of smoke and ash residue every time they’d enter. Her mother today, thankfully sat outside, the early morning sun glinting against her old framed glasses and the flicker of her liter. Addison, the daughter sat Elaine’s lap happily as her brother collected frogs on the edge of the road. The large dirt road that separated towns, was barley used by anyone going over the speed limit.
Elaine listened as her mother, talked about her siblings, her son and even her husband. Using her hand to emphasize certain words and phrases as her daughter and granddaughter looked on.
“Did you watch the news this morning? Another damned dead body..” her mother’s voice trailed off as Elaine bit into her lip, her fingers running over the top of her daughters hair.
“Edward was telling me maybe it’s gang related..”
Elaine listened as her mother scoffed. “Fah! Gangs around here! No darling, I bet you a penny this is, one sick man...”
Elaine crinkled her nose, shaking her head, as she craned her neck making sure Nathaniel was alright. “Well then I’ll take that bet, have to have faith in my husband don’t I?”
Elaine’s parents hated Edward, not because of the illegal activity her father did. Or because of the amount of times they’d been brought into the station, multiple times a a week, or even because he had given their daughter a better life. No, they hated Edward because he was better. Better than they’d ever be, and that nawed at they’re bellies like an ugly bug.

The drive to the station had been uneventful, same streets taken, stopped at the same red lights. His life during the day was a set schedule, a mindless pattern.

"Hey Ed!" One of his colleagues walked over to his desk, a file folder in hand. "You've gotta check this out. This guy ended up lookin' like ground beef." He dropped the file onto his desk and Edward gingerly opened it. If he seemed too excited it would give off the wrong impression. He was met with the victim file first, just the basic information, name, DOB, DOD, occupation, prior records. All the things he could care less about. Ed continued to flip through until he got to the crime scene photos and held up one that had the whole body shot. It was quite the scene, blood covered the brick of the bridge and the mans head was completely caved in. His chest was beaten as well, not as badly, but still torn up quite good. He forced a grimace, noting the other officer was watching his reaction.

"That's horrible." He closed the file, sliding it away from him. "This couldn't have wait until after my food digested?" The other man murmured a quick apology grabbing his file.

"Chief thinks it might be connected to another case. A couple actually." This caught Edward's attention, and he gave the man a hard stare.

"You sure?" His question was met with a nod. "That's... unnerving."

"Yeah, I heard he wants to make a team. Assemble everyone helpful. They're gonna go through the murders, deaths, and unknown cases from the last 10 years, think they might find something." Edward nodded, feeling nauseous and dry mouthed. The man excused himself to talk with someone else, and Ed sat for a long minute trying to figure out what to do.

The morning was spent as they usually do, after coffee with mom it’s laundry and doing more laundry. Making doctors appointments and phone calls, cleaning and anything in between. Once both kids were sent off to school Elaine ordered a pizza and pulled into police station.
Her fingers were warm under the box, as she pushed the heavy door open with her hip. The smell of warm pizza would be stuck to her clothes and even her skin for a few hours. “Hey guys! I brought lunch!” Crinkling her nose, she was looking for Eddie, she’d always be looking for him.

He was brought put of thought by his wife's voice and he winced. He was not in the mood to play the loving husband, in fact he had been in a rotten mood since his earlier conversation. He got up from his desk, and head over to where she stood.

"El, it's not really the best ti-" He was cut off by the same officer from before, who had walked up to Elaine and threw an arm over Edwards shoulder.

"Pizza! You're the best! You've got the best wife Ed." He wasn't sure why this guy decided to be so chummy with him but he was not amused by it in the slightest. He have the man a hard stare, and started thinking about different ways to kill him. There was the fire extinguisher, or maybe a good door slam to the head. He felt his heart start racing and he clenched his fists. It wouldn't do any good to get worked up, and there was no way he could kill another officer. He cooled his features and forced himself to calm down. Edward forced a big smile, and looked to his wife.

"Yes, I really do have the best wife, don't I?" He removed himself from under the mans arm and ran his hand along Elaine's back before leaning in and giving her a kiss on the side of the head. "Thank you for bringing lunch El." He backed away just as the other officer reached for the box. More of the office attendants began coming towards the three of them.

Biting into her lip, Elaine could sense something was wrong. That her dearest husband didn’t actually want her in his presence. Was he cheating? Did he look lovingly at the blonde cop, with the round face and pretty dimples? Her tongue felt like sandpaper on her mouth as her brain moved a mile a minute.
Yes, he’s cheating. He’s going to stomp on your heart and leave you with two small children to go be with his new wife. Pulling herself away from Edward, she crinkled her nose and did her best to make small talk. Not even, actually saying goodbye. Slipping out the back door, as he ran to the bathroom.
She had been cheated on before, when she was in her early 20’s. The thoughts rambles through her mind even to this day. Sitting alone in the car, she read the clock. Soon, both children would be needing their mother. Sighing she pulled from the parking lot, the smell of pizza still on her skin.

He watched his wife go with a heavy heart. He hadn't meant to upset her, but he did. It was for the best for now, he didn't want to be around her when he felt like this. He decided to skip the pizza and instead focused on his case. He had squeezed himself into the small team they had assembled, and was one of the people looking throughout the towns peoples backgrounds. He was checking for past aggression, domestic abuse, records, and other details that may "help" with finding a lead. In order to keep consistent he began taking interest in men who had past records for drug related crimes. He had told Elaine that it what he believed it was, and he would stick with that. Edward took out his cellphone and sent a message to Elaine.

This case is taxing, I'm sorry for earlier - Love Ed

He considered teller her that he was working a late night again, but decided against it. Too many late nights would be suspicious, and he could go weeks without killing. He didn't want to have to wait that long, but it was necessary. He went back to his files and circled a well-known dealer in the area. He was sneaky, and slippery, and the main dope dealer in Clarksville. Every town had them, but no one wanted to talk about it, because it made the town unsavory. He got up and head for the Chief's office, wanting to bring up his "theory".

She worked on auto pilot for the rest of the evening.
Laundry.
Dinner.
Tv.
Bedtime.
She spent her night, doing her best not to bother him. She got the kids ready alone, fed them dinner and even gave them bathed and put them to bed alone. Not realizing her dear old husband wasn’t cheating, on her. Yet cheating the whole town of a killer. Cleaning up the last of the dinner dishes she stood in her pajamas. Her phone dinged softly, as her friend Emily another mother who actually lived down the street frantically texted her, from her own living room window.
“No, I can see the study light on he’s still wide awake. Put something sexy on and surprise him!!”
Reading the text, Elaine looked down at her clothes. An ugly T-shirt from college Edward had shoved into the back of laundry drawer and a pair of dark running shorts. “Super.” Elaine mumbled to herself as she grabbed his dinner from the microwave anyway.
The plate toppled with warmish home made macaroni and cheese along with deep fried chicken, smelled delightful at least to the person who got to eat it warm. She hesitated, standing outside the study door, she never hesitated, never knocked but tonight she did both. “Dinner.”

He had been in the middle of writing down a list when the knock at the door startled him.

"Come in, the doors open." Or at least he was sure it was. Never had he locked it before, not having anything to hide within these walls. Of course he would start locking it if the kids decided to start playing in there. It held all of his books, his older files, and the couple of belongings he took from his past life. He didn't like to talk much about life before meeting Elaine, much to her disappointment. He knew that it hurt her when he refused to talk about his family, or introduce her and the kids. He had been adamant about it never happening. He wasn't proud of his parents, and his sister was extremely unhinged. She had gotten into trouble with drugs, alcohol, and Ed was afraid she would tell someone about the man he killed. It had messed her up when it happened, and he wouldn't blame her if she came clean. He just didn't want it happening anywhere near his family. So he refused to get into contact with her, or anyone on his side of the family.

Edward stretched and stood from his seat, not moving to cover up what he had been doing.

Crinkling her nose, she pushed the door open, before sliding the plate down in front of him. It wasn’t her job, she reminded herself to look and be that obnoxious wife. So she didn’t, Elaine had always been a good wife. Most likely too good, growing up with a grandma who’d lived in the 40’s Elaine had always liked things that way.
The rules anyway, of mothering, of marriage. Simple, things she tried to remember to live by. Even though, as an adult some of them seemed a little far fetched.
“You missed dinner and bed time and I have a few loads of laundry done.” Sighing she almost asked him for help, almost. After she put the plate down, she moved towards the large world map that hung on the wall. Elaine had always loved that map, telling Edward someday they’d travel the world, well now she thought maybe he already had traveled with his mistress.
Rolling her eyes, she plopped down in an old ugly leather chair that sat across from the large oak desk that took up most of the room.
