Name: Otrygg Styrksson

Appearance: Einarolder (1).jpg

Name: Einar Egilsson

Age: 32

Background:
Einar was born as the fourth son of Egil the Fearless, a famous warrior and jarl. His early life was, both positively and negatively, marked by the fact that he happened to be his father’s favorite son - perhaps because he was Egil’s only child born out of his second, far happier marriage. As such, he was raised in a manner that would prepare him for inheriting his father’s post one day and becoming a leader. On the negative side, he has always been despised and envied by his brothers, each of them saw themselves more qualified to be a leader. The three of them developed a great number of smart ways of tormenting, mocking or assaulting him that wouldn’t get them punished. That, eventually, lead to an assasination attempt around Einar's 18th birthday, when they cornered and attacked him during a hunt in the mountains, with no other witnesses present.

By what some consider sheer luck and others favor of gods, a group of Jarl Otrygg's men discovered the wounded Einar mid-winter 14 years ago, having noticed a murder of crows circling over what they'd originally considered a dead animal. His clothes and gear marked him as someone of considerable wealth, and so they brought him back to their settlement, where he eventually recovered. The event left him with multiple scars, a light limp and a massive grudge, as well as a debt to Jarl Otrygg, whom he promised his loyalty. Since then, he helped win countless battles and led many succesful raids, eventually becoming the Jarl's personal guard and advisor. He managed to make quite a name for himself and, one by one, defeated his brother in a fair battle after his father's death of old age, thereby merging his and Jarl Otrygg's territory.

Personality: Einar’s a no-nonsense kind of person - one who gets things done, no matter how unpleasant, and doesn’t tolerate cowardice. On one hand, he does believe problems are best solved with an axe, but on the other he is capable of finding a diplomatic solution in most situations, if necessary. He is fierce in a battle, but doesn’t necessarily seek out conflicts, unless offended, mocked or insulted on a personal level. In that case, he can explode fast... or hold a grudge forever.

Einar has a quite simple moral code: he will always be loyal to his those who fight alongside him. Yet that doesn’t have to mean he likes all of them. Oaths are unbreakable for him. He tends to be distrustful of other people, until they have proven themselves repeatedly. Sometimes, he prefers to spend time in nature and in the company of animals. He owns a raven named Arvid whom he considers his closest companions. He taught it to say simple phrases such as “Burn in Hel”, "Odin hates you" or “I want eyeballs”, which the birds uses at random.

Equipment: Great axe, throwing axes, multiple blades, longbow, shield

Name: Agnarr.

Age: 32.

Background:

Agnar is the third son of Radulfr, Jarl Ulfar's blacksmith, and so for as long as he could remember, Agnarr has been a part of Jarl Ulfar's court. While in the service of his master, he met and befriended people in high places and soon became a familiar face here, a man who stood out from the rest of the crowd. His two older brothers, Sundri and Brandr, wanted to take over the family business and be blacksmiths just like their father while Agnarr had a different goal in mind. Ever since he was young, Agnarr found himself inspired by the tales of the heroes and of the gods, and so he desired to get some of that glory for himself in battle. So, Agnarr thought of being a warrior and if he died bravely in combat, he figured he'd enter Valhalla, and the beautiful valkyries would burst from the skies and take him there. But whenever he trained with the others, fought them in duels or sparred with them in friendly practice rounds, Agnarr discovered he was simply average in all areas, despite his best efforts to transform himself to the warrior he deserved to be.

After being bested so many times, Agnarr was disheartened and thought of giving up, his friends pressed him on, saying that not every warrior was swift, strong or even wise. Yet all had their place in battle and Agnarr understood he had a job to do. He remembered in his youth, he'd boast that he'd defeat them all, in single combat no less. It was something that Agnarr recalled with mixed pride and embarrassment, but he decided that he'd try to live up to his boasts for once. And so Agnarr kept training, kept volunteering for jobs and even quests that people seemed to like giving him. The young warrior worked so hard and with such enthusiasm that it caught the attention of everyone once more, and when one day, Agnarr asked to join in one of Jarl Ulfar's raids, it was accepted without hesitation. Those were difficult days, of being out at sea, at the mercy of the elements for months on end. To keep themselves busy, Agnarr talked with his men all day, he shared his hopes, his dreams, his memories and they did the same as there was nothing else to do. It was on those days, Agnarr learned all there was to know about his fellow men.

In the raids, Agnarr did not distinguish himself, but he did survive and accumulate experience. And as Agnarr was always eager to learn everything there was to know about raiding, he became an expert in navigation and in identifying ships, and on land, he mastered the art of ambushes. His skill was made known to Jarl Ulfar and the rest when Agnarr managed to rout a quick reaction force that was superior in numbers, he was immediately promoted to captain of his own ship. By that time, Agnarr had his own wife, the love of his life, Brynja, and he has three children, Bui, Daegmaer and Dagny. They are a happy family and they hold a house of their own, within the walls of Jarl Ulfar's fort. Agnarr's older brothers, Sundri and Brandr, became the blacksmiths they wanted to be and their craftsmanship was renown throughout the land. Agnarr had younger siblings, they either became servants of Jarl Ulfar or set out to get a life of their own.

Personality: Agnarr is a go-getter, others mockingly refer to him as an opportunist, and exploit his energy and ability as often as they can. Nonetheless, Agnarr is diligent and he is a man that pays close attention to detail, always trying to find a way to make things more efficient. He is highly sociable, friendly, jolly even, and he finds great joy in conversation, no pain in small talk. That said, this man tends to exaggerate, pushing details into the realm of imagination, almost never getting to the point of things. And when he does, his audience finds their much of their time wasted (or they find themselves strangely entertained) but Agnarr himself wastes no time talking about his promotion for the 1000th time, or about his new ship that he got 3 years ago, or about how his brothers became the finest blacksmiths in the land 10 years ago or how he fell in love with his wife ever since he was just a baby. You get the point. Despite this one annoying trait, Agnarr is the sort of man that just grows on you, which is why practically every person he meets turns into his best friend (his opinion, not mine). And you can be sure as Ragnarok that this veteran of many battles will have your back when the time is right.

Role: Huscarl.

Equipment:

An iron helm.
A mail hauberk that protects Agnarr from his head down to his waist.
A spare hauberk for emergencies.
A roundshield.
A broadsword.
A small knife, a knife, a broad knife and a hunting knife.
A handaxe.
A woodsman's axe, a broad axe and a splitting axe for cutting wood.
20 javelins.
A heavy crossbow (1 minute reloading time).
A quiver.
A barrel of arrows (300 arrows).
A longship (can carry 46 men).
Supplies for the journey (salted or dried meat, dried beans or grain).
5 fishing rods.

Name: Helle Freyjasgyðja

Age: 20

Personality: Helle is strong-willed, loyal, and intelligent. Her mother’s wisdom is said to have been passed to her, though some say that the beloved Seeress’s death left Helle colder and quicker to fall into despair. The young Völva herself does everything she can to dissuade these rumors, healing others and sharing her visions with those who would come to ask for the Gods’ knowledge. However, she is young and thus prone to fits of fancy where she dreams of bloodshed on the distant battlefields across the sea.

Background: Like all the women in her family, stretching back to the beginning of Midgard (or so the stories claim), Helle was born with the power of the Völva. Her father was a great warrior who died in battle when his daughter was still a child, but often shared stories of war with her, making her dream of Valhalla. Since childhood, she has had visions of what is to come, making her a mouthpiece of the gods. Her mother - recently dead - was the greatest healer and Seeress in three generations, and taught her daughter everything she knew. Now, Helle must take up where her mother left off, and give up her dream of becoming a warrior.

Role: Village Seeress / Healer

Equipment: Helle kept her father's axe (in secret), and uses it to practice her combat skills (which are lacking from never having been trained). She carries a sharp knife at her hip, and a bag of runestones carved by her mother.

Name: Hervor

carolina-tello-zeleski-shieldmaiden-hero-final (1).jpg

Age: 27

Personality: Whether in the battle or at the table, Hervor is impossible to miss. She is fierce, loud and rude like any man and more - perhaps to secure her place among the elite raiders, because for a woman to be respected by a group of warriors, she has to best them in every respect. Underneath that exterior, she has a good heart and will stand up for anybody who is being treated unfairly, especially other women. She's smart, proud and quick to make decisions - all good qualities, despite of which she hardly ever has any relationships. Men (and women) are largely afraid to approach her and she likes it that way.

Background: Hervor comes from a family of warriors; both her father and grandfather were famous throughout nordic kingdoms and beyond. It is said that her grandfather slayed a dragon and ate is heart, although nobody who could confirm it is still alive, and that her father's sword was made by the dwarves and had magical properties. Ever since her childhood, Hervor wanted nothing but to follow in her ancestors' foot steps and she refused to learn any of the usual female tasks. Till this day, she can't sew, cook or milk a cow. Fortunately, she doesn't have to, because the skills she was born with and honed all her life helped her get rich enough to buy her clothes and keep a slave or two to tend to all those mundane things. Although it may not look like that, her life wasn't just victories and ale. Her father was one of the people who never acknowledged her, disappointed his wife didn't give him a son, and when he disappeared on a journey along with his sword, they weren't on best terms. Recently, Hervor's mother was killed and her younger sister raped in an attack on the village while she was away with the men, which did somewhat changed her attitude.

Role: Shield maiden

Equipment: She can fight with a mace, an axe, throwing axes, swords, shields and daggers, and also carries a bow.
