Hey guys, I've been playing around with a couple ideas for a roleplay and wanted to go with a classic dysfunctional family roleplay.
I enjoy complex family relationships, so the base of the roleplay with be four siblings and their offspring. The plot will be a family retreat (place can be determined, but most likely a lake or beach). Again the siblings discussed below would the parents of the families, though the majority of the characters will be the children of these families:
Sibling #1: Highly ambitious politician who's married to an equally ambitious professional. They believe in strict parenting and have set high expectations for their children. They have placed their careers before their families; however, have ensured that their kids have the best life money can buy (boarding schools, pricey trips, best nannies). The family is used to being in the public eye and have a marked reputation of being smug and disconnected with the average person. They have two-three children all highly successful.
Sibling #2: Family means the world to them. They were the closest to their parents out of the four siblings and understand the value of close relationships. They married young but have never looked back -- though, some argue that their relationship was doomed from the start, both partners wanting to be parents but having little love for each other. They had their kids -- and they had lots; however, they've lived a life of always just above breaking. They try to teach their kids that life is about who you have, not what you have; but just barely scratching by is getting harder to do. They have five-seven children.
Sibling #3: They left home at a young age to travel the world and found love where they never knew it could exist. Soulmates lost in a world of wanderlust. The two lovers traveled the world and experienced everything it had to offer creating a life full of memories along the way. Kids were never an essential part of their relationship, but they had one biological one early in the relationship and that was just enough. They lived a happy life, until the sibling's spouse came down with a terminal condition. It was in these final years that the sibling realized that they'd never love someone like that again, yet they still had so much love to give. They'd been touched by the stories of children from around the world, but the idea of adoption wasn't a reality until their spouses' passing. Their family has come to be a makeshift rag-tag group of misfits that all have one thing in common: lose. Lost of a parent (or both), a spouse; however, they've found a new family again. They have three-four children with one being biological (having traveled around with their parents for all their lives) and the others being adopted in the past seven years -- single-parent as the spouse of the sibling has died. (decide among family whether they still live abroad or have come back to the states to settle down.)
Sibling #4: The surprise among the siblings, they were never planned for. A welcome surprise, they are close in age to many of their nieces and nephews -- often being viewed as just another cousin, rather than an aunt/uncle. Being from such a large family, the idea of family is something along their mind, though they haven't started one of their own just yet. No children; however, could possibly be engaged.
So there goes a little bit about each of the family structures. I left gender and ages of the siblings open, because parents will be a part of the roleplay (as major or as minor as the person playing chooses to make them). Additionally, nearly all the characters in the roleplay will be cousins; though, their could be spots of opened for characters outside of the family for romance plots.
If interested, post below with which family you're interested in, parent/child role, age(35-50 for parents, 4th sibling -- 21-29; 10-27 for children), gender, and maybe your plans for 'em. This isn't a reserve, just a way to get some plotting going ~~~
