Fantasy Bloodlines

Myrtis stays very still, not seeming to notice the pain of the needle at all. “Very well.” He says calmly, making Korvashta grin. She can see how docile he’s becoming, and it makes her feel wonderful. She wonders how Lanton will like this. To have something stronger than Dhampir, and completely obedient… actually, that’s concerning. He might decide he has less need for the Dhampir he keeps. At this rate, he might give them to Benton in Thanks. Which would probably not be ideal. Korvashta knows he seems to want her alive and healthy, at least for now, but all of them…

Benton looked Myrtis over for another few minutes and explained the last few bits of his condition. “ As you’ve no doubt noticed you are very much alive now. Your biological systems are waking up and beginning to operate again. You’ll need to sleep, eat, etc. once you’re stronger we will see if blood can still act as your sole nutrition or not. As it stands... rest up it’ll take a while for the magic in my blood to fully take hold. If you need something call out. A ghoul trained in medicine should be able to help with most things.” Benton explained as he made sure that the wounds he had inflicted on Myrtis were healing properly. No doubt the rib cage would be the hardest to replace. With his check up on Myrtis done Benton moved to Khora and ushered her back upstairs. Once they were back on the ground floor Benton lead Khora to his study. “ Now it’s time for your medical check up. Do you have anything you’d like to report to me before we begin?”

Myrtis nods, and closes his eyes, leaning back to rest. Following him into the new room, Kora thinks about his question, then shakes her head. “Other than the traits I inherited from my father, and of course repeated blood loss from being fed on, I can’t think of anything that could show up as me being sick.” She says, still trying to think. Frankly, she has no idea what kind of health she’s in. Vampires have no need for doctors the majority of the time, and only valuable Dhampir receive medical care as a result.

Benton nodded and began writing down notes. If she was anemic he would need to prepare a solution. “Well just from a glance you don’t appear to be feverish and I haven’t noticed any symptoms.” Benton wrote as he spoke. “ As I mentioned my senses are dulled so you’ll have to excuse my overuse of tools. Open wide please.” Benton said said as he used a flashlight to get a clear look inside Khora’s mouth. “ Fangs look fine, your teeth could stand for some cleaning. I’ll need to find a dentist.” Benton muttered as he made more notes. “ No signs of oral disease... Please take a seat. Now.. Myrtis said you inherited true immortality. Does that mean like a vampire your organs do not function?” Benton asked looking up from his notes.

She does as she’s told, sitting down in the chair. “No, it just means that I’ve stopped aging. I’ve looked roughly twenty for the past fifty years or so.” She says. “That said, they don’t need to work as hard. I can hold my breath longer, my pulse is weaker, and while I do need food, drink, and rest, I need significantly less of it to function. It won’t be particularly pleasant, but it won’t hamper me.” She’s kind of glad for the testing she went through now, even if some of it was downright torturous. Especially the starvation tests. Those were where a lot of the attacks happened.

Benton nodded and wrote down the information in his notes. “ I’m going to take a baseline for your pulse and breaths. If this if you healthy I’ll use this to figure out when you are sick. “ Benton explained as he got up to fetch a thermometer and a stethoscope. “ Please remove the dress and put this under your tongue.” Benton asked as he handed her the thermometer and put the ear pieces of the stethoscope in. Benton was by no means a stranger to the anatomy of humans and by extension vampires, but he was trying to make Khora as comfortable as possible though the more hands on part of the exam.

Kora hesitates for a moment, but obeys, taking off the dress, and doing her best to keep calm. Trusting people to touch her is hard enough most of the time, but she doesn’t want her heart rate to accelerate too badly, so she closes her eyes, trying to relax. She takes the thermometer from him, and puts it under her tongue as requested, not liking the feeling of the metal. Her temperature rounds out to the mid seventies Fahrenheit, much cooler than it should be.

Benton carefully placed the stethoscope over Khora’s heart, being careful not to disturb her underwear, and turned his gaze to a clock on the wall. After a minute passes Benton removes the stethoscope and takes the thermometer and jots down information. “ Temperature 76 degrees and heart rate at 50 bpm... alright.” Benton muttered before looking over to Khora with a smile. “ it’s almost over I promise. Now would you please tell me your measurements. I’d rather not take them unless I have to.” Benton said as he watched her expectantly.

Korvashta thinks about that for a long moment. “Five foot nine, thirty inches at the bust,, twenty eight at the waist, thirty eight at the hips. Last time I was measured, anyway, and I don’t think my body has changed at all in a long time.” She really isn’t sure she remembered all that correctly, but she strongly agrees with Benton that she doesn’t want him to take her measurements.

Benton nods and writes down the information. “ Then we will go with that. Please go ahead and dress yourself.” Benton said with a gesture as he reviewed the information he had gathered. “Alright.. everything is looking good now I just need to know if you have had any sexual activity before or after your immortality manifested.” Benton thought for a moment and realized how she might take the question. “ Don’t worry, I don’t plan on taking on your medical needs. There are specialists for a reason and feminine care was certainly not my specialty.” Benton scrambled to explain. He didn’t want her to think that this was all a pretense to getting her in bed. Lord knows he wife would kill him.

Korvashta sighs with relief, her ears returning to their usual position from where they’d been pinned against her skull at the line of questioning he just opened up. “Oh, Thank the gods.” She says, unable to help herself. That had her pretty spooked. “As for your question, no. Not before or after.” Gods damn this is awkward.

Not that she’s particularly surprised. She’s known for being violent, and her more animalistic features didn’t exactly help. This is just not something she expected to talk about with literally anyone, ever.

Benton sighed with relief, glad that he was through with the check up and could get out of the awkward tension that he had unfortunately created. “ Alright.... that’s all I need that you very much Khora. You are free to return to your room or travel the grounds. The Sun should be up in a few hours so I’d like to have some breakfast around noon.” Benton said with a drawn out yawn. “ unlike vampires I actually need food and sleep. “ Benton said as he got up and stashed the information he had wriften on Khora in his desk drawer which he soon after locked. “ I’m going to retire for a while. Holler if you need me.” Benton told her before making his way to the master bedroom and locking the door.

The inside of the room was quite ragged and messy and beside the bed where two coffins. One adult sized and one child sized. Unlike the coffins from before magic arrays were etched into the wood for an unknown purpose. There was also a closet and a private bathroom. Before heading to bed Benton would take an hour or so and carefully clean his body.

Kora nods, glad to be clothed again, and goes to take a bath, which is very nice for her right now. She’s still very pleased to have her brand gone, and she’s glad that Benton has apparently decided to keep her around, as awkward as that last bit bit was for her. But the point is that this master cares for her health, which is more than her former one did.

She goes to bed after that, but tries to focus on when she’ll wake up, so she can make breakfast. She assumes that’s what Benton meant.

Once Benton finished the maintenance on his body Benton laid down in his bed and whispered a good night to the two coffins before heading to sleep.

Benton would wake at roughly 10:30 in the morning and do a quick inspection of his body to ensure that nothing had been injured or fallen off during his sleep. After getting dressed in what was possibly the same attire as yesterday Benton silently made his way down to the lab to check on his other guest. “ Good morning Myrtis. Feeling stronger today I hope.” Benton said as he approached.

Myrtis is slumped down in his restraints, fast asleep, but he opens his newly regenerated eyes when he hears Benton say his name. He stirs, sitting up straight as best he can, and looking up at him. “Good morning, doctor Benton. I feel… refreshed. I have not slept like that in centuries.” He says in response. The veins of his new eyes are already black, and further inspection would show that it’s pretty much spread everywhere.

Benton gestured to the nearby stationed ghoul which gives him the key to Myrtis’ restraints. “ I have no doubt. That was probably the first time you’ve actually slept since your turning. I imagine it’s a bit different than the sleep you’ve been getting. “ Benton said as he examined the spreading of his black blood through the body. “ Hmm... it seems to me that the blood as successfully circulated through your system. From here on we will need to check and see if the bone marrow in your new body makes more of the blood like mine and the ghouls or if your vampiric need for blood will supplement the function of the bone marrow.” Benton said as he checked the time again. “ let’s go for for a walk eh? Stretch those legs and do another test. My magic activates organ systems as a supplement. In truth as long as there is enough black blood in your body it wouldn’t matter if those organs were destroyed.” Benton kept explaining these things as he released Myrtis from his bonds and started making his way to the elevator.

Myrtis gets up to follow him, listening to what he says. “Understood.” Is all he says in response. Unlike Korvashta, he shows no curiosity whatsoever in his surroundings. All he cares about at this point is the orders of his master, and while he has more intelligence to complete said orders with, his will has been all but erased.

Korvashta gets up, and spends some time making herself look decent, before putting on the clothes she came here in, a black shirt and skirt. Then she heads out of her room toward the kitchen, wanting to see what she can make for breakfast.

Benton was silent on the elevator ride up though he did make a note of Myrtis ‘ obedience. All in all Benton was pleased that his experiment was a resounding success. With the completion of this experiment a new breed of vampire could be created. One that while did put the Dhampir at risk put Benton in control. Benton could hear Khora moving about though the house and made it a point to not let the two meet. It was frankly much easier for Benton to just sent Myrtis on his way. Once at the door Benton turned to Myrtis. “ Here is my first order for you Myrtis: walk back to Lord Lanton and declare your fealty once more. treat Lanton’s orders as if they were my own. I will call on you should I need you.” Benton said before opening the door and gesturing for Myrtis to leave. Once Myrtis did leave Benton figured he would either receive new from Lanton or he would find his creation the subject of a news story.

With his day starting off wonderful Benton made his way to the kitchen. “ I wasn’t sure what foods you enjoyed or if you could cook so I stocked up on pretty much everything.” Benton said as he entered and actually looked at Khora. “ It looks like you slept well.”

Myrtis dips his head respectfully, and heads for the garage to get his car. Kora smiles at Benton, nodding. “Thank you. And yes, I certainly did. I haven’t had a real bed in decades, thank you for that.” She looks around. “Is there anything you’d like me to make? I’m not a particularly good cook, but I’ll make an attempt.” She offers.

Benton shrugged, “ Whatever you make will probably be fine. My sense of taste is hindered so as long as there isn’t a texture issue it’ll be fine.” Benton explained as he pulled a rather large book of recipes. The recipes ranged from multiple cultures but it seemed that the most worn pages were Americans and more specifically Southern dishes. “ I’ll have the dining room prepared so that we can eat whenever you finish oh and prepare enough for about 10 people. The ghouls I keep on staff need to eat as well.” With directions given Benton moved to leave the kitchen but stopped as he remembered he had forgotten a few things from Khora’s check up. “ Ah that’s right. After we eat I need to take some blood and gather some more medical data from you.” With that Benton went to the dining room. It was a medium sized room that could seat 15 people comfortably. Benton would work with the ghoul maids to set the table while ghoul cooks would help Khora as best they could.

Kora nods, wondering what he’s planning to do with her blood, and gets started on making some bacon and toast, as well as smoothies for everyone. That’s just something that she always does, considering that her body can only handle so much solid food, so the more she can put in a liquid form the better.

She isn’t sure how he likes his bacon, so she does her best to find a nice crispy texture before it gets crunchy. She really hates crunchy food. Once she’s done, she brings it out on platters so everyone can choose their own serving size, and fills all the cups with smoothie. She’s pretty pleased with herself.
St. Boethius St. Boethius

When Khora arrives with the food 8 ghouls are already seated and waiting 2 maids, 3 grounds keepers, and 3 butlers. Benton sat at the head of the table and there was an empty seat next to him for Khora. Once the food was served with permission from Benton the ghouls begin eating which was a surprisingly normal display. No one would guess they were soulless corpses. Benton also began to eat and was surprised to find his bacon crispy. It was much more preferable than more chewy bacon. That always made him feel like he was eating rubber. “ This is very good Khora. Very well done.” The ghouls seemed to nod in agreement.
Eliasdagood Eliasdagood

Kora grins, enjoying her own bacon. “Thank you.” She says, pleased that she managed to do well with it. She doesn’t have much solid food on her plate, two strips of bacon, and one piece of toast, but she seems to enjoy it anyway. She eats in small bites, since her inability to retract her fangs can make chewing a real nightmare. She hums happily, looking around at the ghouls. It really does seem so normal, just for a moment.
St. Boethius St. Boethius

Once everyone was ghoul Benton made a gesture and the ghouls got up and taking away the dishes they left to perform their duties. “ Well that was pleasant. Are you ready to run a few tests? It’s nothing too stressful. I want to record what your heart rate is during vigorous activity. So I’ll have you run on a treadmill for a bit. If there’s anything you want to do or talk about I’m sure we’ll have time for that during the test.” Benton said as he got up and headed for the door. “ When your ready meet me in the study. A ghoul will bring the necessary equipment from storage.” Benton explained before he headed up to the study.

Kora nods, and goes to put on more appropriate clothes, namely exchanging the skirt for pants. Once that’s done, she heads to the study, curious as to why her master is being so thorough with testing her. It makes her slightly nervous. Maybe this is all just setup for a more intensive experiment. But she wants to trust him, considering how kind he’s been to her thusfar.

She walks into the study, waiting for him to tell her what to do.
